When Mr Justice said that the Ashanti used drums to communicate and that the message can be sent through sound from one community to another THAT really connected me to all that I was taught as a Jamaican child about our history Jamaicans are mainly Ashanti and Coromante This was how the escaped enslaved in Jamaica communicated with each other via drum beating
Coromantee known in Ghana as Kormantse is just a town in the Central Region, nothing more. Now enslaved people who were kept at the dungeons in that town were referred to as Coromantee slaves by the British. Hence the term was coined. So Jamaicans are Akan originally. The people of Kormantse are predominantly fante( the akan tribe that sold out to the British). Queen Nanny of the maroons was Asante while King Cudjoe was Fante.
Yes we communicate through drumming and also talk to drums and the drums talks back to us this is*a proverb*( meaning those who have ears should listen) We love 😘 our brothers in Jamaica, we are looking forward to bring you back home it is still in process

Interesting thing is how there are countless documentaries on youtube about the British Royal Family and how noble, sweet, and kind Queen Victoria was and how honorable all her descendants are etc. They never show you all the horrible vile things the royal family did to people around the globe. The world needs to hold them accountable for all they have done. Even TODAY! They need to be held accountable.
But... this is literally a documentary from a State Channel from England. The British unlike, say, the Portuguese, tend to be quite open about what their ancestors did to other nations being terrible.
Only ignorant people thing that. I always remind them of their evil ways. They tried to destroyed the African continent but were unsuccessful so now they tried to destroy one black woman who married into the family. The stories about Queen Victoria are fairy tales. She did nothing to stopped the slave trade in the Caribbean because the Kingdom benefited from slavery. People don't cut off their noses to spoil their faces. She was no sweet woman.
Dear Mrs. Zeinab.... you have made a respectable landmark to the History of Africa documenting a great civilization being the cradle of humanity. The history will always remember your documentary being as great as the African civilization.
Great documentary but this is quite biased, the Asantes did defeat the British in the first anglo-ashanti war in 1824-1831. The leader of the British forces which was Sir Charles Mccarthy was beheaded and his head was sent back to kumasi as a war trophy. Also in 1863 to 1864 British forces fought against the Asantes and lost bitterly. It was in the Sagrenti war which lasted from 1873-1874 that saw the defeat of the Asante kingdom. The British forces were led by Sir Garnet Wolseley.
It has been always like that, because we don't tell our own stories we have allowed them to tell our stories for us and what do you expect, this is the second documentary made by BBC concerning Asante kingdom within ten years and they never mentioned their defeats against Asante's. Until we start telling our stories it will be like this.
@@nanayawpeter4445 we really need tell our own stories, the westerners always want to downgrade our rich history. We emerged from great and well organized kingdoms. I am from DRC,and i love the the way Ghanaians adhere and celebrate their cultures and traditions and hate it when a complete stranger sitting in the comfort of their living room try to narrate the history of my country
The War of the Golden Stool was the 4th major war between the British and Asante. Asante won the first two and lost the last two. In 1874, Britain, then the World's Superpower, had to bring troops from all across West Africa, the Caribbean and India, before they could defeat the Asante. Asante invented guerrilla warfare.
Just a very simple question, why would the British want a stool from an African country???? Shame to all those who stole from Africa! Another question that cross my mind each time l hear it is the sentence " Common Wealth", what wealth does any African country share with the rest of the world? Trying to keep us in common boundage still in my opinion. The world and its wife need to take their greedy hands off Africa so that we breath!
@@7mumable so I have heard that the golden stool was an object that united the peoples of different regions, and it was highly revered by the Ashanti Akan peoples. The British thought if they could prize it from them then it would more easily subjugate the people, who may see it as a sign of British right to rule. The British won the war when they could divert more attention towards it from its global empire but the Ashanti were able to prevent the British from taking the stool. The Commonwealth though is actually quite a good and useful networking system for trade and cooperation. Stop saying they ruled the mighty Asante. Asantes killed and defeated the British in many wars. Where was that? The British feared the Asante incredibly well.
@LDN EDD They did not make their wealth selling african slaves. They were already wealthy long before the slave trade. There's a reason why the british were there in the first place, because of the GOLD and IVORY. Furthermore, they werent selling slaves in order to gain wealth, they were selling war captives. The British didnt fight the Ashantis by themselves, they used african tribes that were allied with them to defeat the Ashantis because they couldnt do it themselves. The main tribe that they used was the Fanti tribe, even though the Ashanti and the Fanti are the same people the British took advantage of the conflict that the two tribes had between them and decided to ally themselves with the Fanti to finally defeat the Ashanti. And by the way, both tribes were selling each other. The Ashantis did not become wealthy because of the slave trade, they were destroyed because of it. Many chiefs and kings of Ashanti got sold into slavery. You can read about this, if you do some minimal research lol. And the Ashantis didnt only win battles but wars. It took the British over 100 years to defeat and colonize the Ashanti. You really dont know their history. Typical..

Not bad BBC. Asante is not the name of an ethnic group, but the name of a united kingdom of smaller kingdoms constituted about 1670 after rebelling from the regional overlord, Denkyira state. The British repeatedly lost wars to the Asante(much like they lost to the Zulu) until the introduction of mechanical Maxim guns. The term Asantehene literally means king of Asante. The "talking drums" were used to pass messages through the kingdom. Asante communities occupied hilltops and a community that received a message in drum code coming through the forest air, would then repeated it out for the successive hilltop communities; thus messages were transmitted quickly through the state.

What an eye opening series ! Am learning the real history of Africa , not the botched up history which was handed down to us to make us believe Africa has no culture and is populated by savages . Now I see the real cultured civilized REAL Africa . Respect !!!
I was thinking the same thing. It's odd that no one wants to mention the extensive history before colonization. Or even the 100 years (3 major wars) of failed attempts by the British to colonize the Ashanti.
This is a British channel so they are *NOT* going admit that they *loss* to the ashanti *five times,* they are not going to mention that they got their ass whopped *five times* by them because it will make them look bad. The BBC is british owned so they are going to make themselves look good *no* matter how many times they lie. That is white ppl for you they love to *LIE* and *HIDE* stuff when it comes to other people's history. We as Africans need to tell our own stories 😊
@@yaafowaa4149 they are not hiding ... we are not making that the most important part of out history ..instead we focus on the slavery and the battles we lost .
Thanks for the in depth search of cultural heritage, the powerful Ashanti Kingdom and the Unity of the Confederacy as well as the commitments and respect if the Golden Stool, which is the Spirit of Togetherness to the citizens of the Ashanti Kingdom. As a matter of fact it's time all other tribes in Ghana acknowledge the BRAVERY, LOVE, UNDERSTANDING, and the UNITY of the Ashanti Kingdom to a broader perspective to the the entire nation of Ghana. Hence, it's imperative that, such genuine powerful History, which encompasses as far ,Ivory Coast and unto Benin( Dahomey) means a lot for all and sundry. It's vivid, that up until this modern 21 century, the Powerful Ashanti Kingdom still exists with dignity, respect and honor to His Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11, the Asantehene.
Proud to be an Ashanti (Akan) the greatest Empire Africa has ever seen 🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭..Rich culture, wealth, fearless people.. our history goes beyond this.. we are the Jews.. tribe of Judah
If you are interested, have a look at what was happening to the people, not the elites, during the same period in history. In Scotland in 1606, miners were bonded and enslaved in their own country by James VI of Scotland, and their children. It was finally ended in 1799. People, even small children were working in mines for 16 hours a day. The laws called 'The Bloody Code' caused people, even children, to be hanged for stealing a piece of bread, or transported to America or Australia. The death rate on the ships was 30%. The penal code and punishments were flogging, the wheel, people were also manacled and chained. If you were poor, you could end up in the workhouses, separated from your children and worked to death. You could also be passed on to mill and factory owners to work for bed and food. It was dangerous, people died and got maimed and thrown out to die. Men were also 'press ganged' into the Navy. People sold themselves into bondage to avoid starvation and werent 'released' at the end of the agreed time, as the contract owners would pretend and keep adding debts for clothes and board etc onto your original contract. It really wasn't good to be born into the poor 'working class'. You had no value, so starving and dying didnt matter. 40 was old.
When I visited Goree Island (in Senegal) where slaves were kept before being moved to the western countries, I found out that the ENSLAVED WOMEN were chained down even during transportation, due to their enormous strength and power. Black women are naturally powerful beings, even when enslaved.
The British did the same to the great Omukama Kabalega of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom and to Ssekabaka Mwanga of Buganda Kingdom. After fighting the British in resistance, they were exiled to Seychelles.
Impressive! Love Ghana and her people in the states. All my Ghanaians friends are hard working. It's beautiful and full of greenery. Thank you Zeinab. Happy Ramadan Kareem.
1. History: Fufu/Fufuo means "mash or mix" in Twi (language of the Akan ethnic groups in Ghana) and is a specific staple food for the Akans in southern part of Ghana and Ivory Coast, West Africa but now commonly features in many West and Central African countries in different textures but not every doughy African foods are Fufu. Eg. is saying in Twi "fufu 3to (mash spicy ripped plantains mixed with palm oil eaten with peanuts) or fufu Gari Foto (mix spicy Gari with palm oil" Fufuo (also means white and derived from the white color of cassava) is soft doughy swallow food made out of boiled cassava mixed with plantains or coco yams and pounded together in a mortar (waduro) with a pestle (woma) unique to the Akans, and only eaten with liquid soups (nkwan) such as, Light soup (Nkrakra nkwan), Abenkwan (palm nut soup), Nkatenkwan (peanut butter soup), Abunabun soup (green vegetable) with meats, fishes, snails, crabs, mushrooms and okro (nkruma) on the side. Fufuo/fufu is usually served in Asanka or Ayowaa (an earthware bowl; black or red in color) with the liquid soups poured on the Fufuo/fufu to look like an island which helps reduce the stickiness while eating. *Right way to eat Fufu: In between both the index and middle fingers cut a piece of the Fufuo/fufu like a scissor, tap a hole in it, scoop the soup and swallow, never chew the Fufu in order to enjoy the taste of the soup while swallowing. *Authentic Ghana Fufuo/fufu preparation ⬇️ 1. ruclips.net/video/PQIa0V9L-PE/видео.html 2. ruclips.net/video/Ro7-6AYftkw/видео.html 3. ruclips.net/video/i_nMyOSvMf8/видео.html In the typical Akan region in Ghana, Fufuo is mostly use but Ghanaian businesses men used only the name Fufu when they processed the authentic Fufuo/Fufu into cassava/plantains /coco yam flour 1. ruclips.net/video/SszPhlmWDJE/видео.html 2. ruclips.net/video/Z_XeI7n3aj8/видео.html some years ago and sold mainly in Ghana markets in most western countries such as America because they couldn't pound the Fufu just like they would in Ghana, as it's very noisy when pounding and it became popular among other Africans and parts of the Caribbean and now Nigerians are calling almost every African doughy foods as Fufu even though they have their names; Nigerian Pounded yam (Iyan), Akpu (fermented cassava dough), Amala, Eba, semolina, oatmeal, cabbage. Nigerian soup textures are considered stews in Ghana since Ghana soups are generally liquid texture which aide in swallowing the soft Ghana Fufuo/fufu. Ghana stews [Palava sauce/Nkontomire stew (Egusi soup) or garden egg stew, egg stews etc.]. The thick textured Ghana stews goes with plain rice or Ampesie (boiled cubes of yams, plantains, cocoyams, potatoes cassava, Kooko/ taro root etc.) in Ghana. Okro stew or soup goes with Banku (fermented cassava/corn dough similar to Nigerian Akpu dough) in Ghana. *It's only Akpu (fermented cassava dough ) that some Nigerians call Fufu as a slang and it's because many Nigerians migrated to Ghana after Ghana's independence in 1957 and were sent back to Nigeria in 1969 and so they brought the name Fufu along to Nigeria. It's mostly the Nigerians living in abroad that have been calling almost all Nigerian doughy foods as Fufu but generally Nigerians call their doughy foods swallow foods. Just like Bofrot which Nigerians call puff puff comes from Ghana because in the 1980s, Ghanaians brought it to Nigeria and it was Ghanaians who were frying and selling Bofrot/Puff puff in Nigeria until Ghanaians were sent back to Ghana but now most younger Nigerians will try to tell you it's Nigerians inventions Also try Ghanaian🇬🇭 foods ♥️👍🏽. Try the original Fufuo/fufu from Ghana with Nkrakra soup (Light soup), peanut butter soup or palm nut soup. So most West and Central Africans started calling almost every powdered doughy food Fufu. If you are younger or haven't lived in abroad for a long time you wouldn't even think about the origin of Fufu because the new generations don't necessarily care to know their history much. Hope you researched more on how and why when you see every Fufu powder both in Ghana and abroad, you will see it's a Ghanaian product. If you are an Akan, but you are younger or haven't lived in abroad for a long time you wouldn't even think about why it's called both Fufuo/fufu in Ghana because it's been part of you since the day you are born or you maybe younger and just don't know the history. I am an Akan and it makes me proud when other people eat my staple food Fufuo/fufu with the liquid soups in the right way but to sabotage and replace it with other doughy foods simply because it looks similar is unacceptable. We must learn to give credit to the origination of our foods, our inventions and also give credit to other people's foods and inventions accordingly to give respect to our heritage. They’re both similar
When Mr Justice said that the Ashanti used drums to communicate and that the message can be sent through sound from one community to another THAT really connected me to all that I was taught as a Jamaican child about our history
Jamaicans are mainly Ashanti and Coromante
This was how the escaped enslaved in Jamaica communicated with each other via drum beating
Yes we communicate through drumming and also talk to drums and the drums talks back to us this is*a proverb*( meaning those who have ears should listen)
We love 😘 our brothers in Jamaica, we are looking forward to bring you back home it is still in process
The Ashanti flag was the inspiration for the Jamaican flag. Look it up. Literally the same people

Instablaster...
But... this is literally a documentary from a State Channel from England.
The British unlike, say, the Portuguese, tend to be quite open about what their ancestors did to other nations being terrible.
Looks like Harry and Meghan are the ones to do it. They are gearing up to hold their feet to the fire. They already are in their own way.
He says in a video celebrating Ashanti kings who certainly were no saints when they conquered a ton of territory.
Thanks for your fruitful contribution
@@nanayawpeter4445 we really need tell our own stories, the westerners always want to downgrade our rich history. We emerged from great and well organized kingdoms. You should know about the details of her "capture": some weak ass brother sold out her hiding place for ransom money. Even then they didn't get her. The British had taken a number of young Kumasi women captive when their fort was attacked in the Golden Stool war as human shields and bargaining chips.
Asante invented guerrilla warfare.
lol guerrilla warfare existed long before that. Sun Tzu even wrote about it over 2000 years ago.
@@hariveyo171 ACTUALLY NOT TRUE. THE TACTICS AND STRATEGIES USED BY MOST SPECIAL FORCES TODAY WERE PERFECTED BY THE ASHANTIS INCLUDING THE TRAINING.

@LDN EDD
You are a liar or you don't know Asante history.

Ashanti don't have any resentment because they fought and resisted the British rules and they are very proud people.
It took British and their allies 100 years to enter KUMASI alone!!
One British general said that
“ we brought the cannons ( guns) to the bush( ashanti) but the bush was stronger than the cannons (guns, british)

It's vivid, that up until this modern 21 century, the Powerful Ashanti Kingdom still exists with dignity, respect and honor to His Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11, the Asantehene.
AEA FILMS is a refreshing RUclips channel we all have to watch.
Proud to be an Ashanti (Akan) the greatest Empire Africa has ever seen 🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭..Rich culture, wealth, fearless people.. our history goes beyond this.. we are the Jews.. tribe of Judah

And be proud to be Ghanaian first as well.
Wow, will visit Kumasi in 2022 with my friend Eric Nimako
I am a Proud Ghanaian....👏👏👏❤❤❤
Africa should sue them for violation of human rights and defamation of character and discrimination because they didnt do British nationals like that
If you are interested, have a look at what was happening to the people, not the elites, during the same period in history. 40 was old.
@@shelleyphilcox4743 Wow that is brutal. What a hard way to live!
We should tell our own history.
Then do it and stop complaining like a child.
When I visited Goree Island (in Senegal) where slaves were kept before being moved to the western countries, I found out that the ENSLAVED WOMEN were chained down even during transportation, due to their enormous strength and power. Black women are naturally powerful beings, even when enslaved.
They’re not only powerful but they’re “GODDESSES!
Of course so it's not only the Europeans that did that to us but the Arabs too
The British did the same to the great Omukama Kabalega of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom and to Ssekabaka Mwanga of Buganda Kingdom.

Eg. is saying in Twi "fufu 3to (mash spicy ripped plantains mixed with palm oil eaten with peanuts) or fufu Gari Foto (mix spicy Gari with palm oil"
Fufuo (also means white and derived from the white color of cassava) is soft doughy swallow food made out of boiled cassava mixed with plantains or coco yams and pounded together in a mortar (waduro) with a pestle (woma) unique to the Akans, and only eaten with liquid soups (nkwan) such as, Light soup (Nkrakra nkwan), Abenkwan (palm nut soup), Nkatenkwan (peanut butter soup), Abunabun soup (green vegetable) with meats, fishes, snails, crabs, mushrooms and okro (nkruma) on the side. Fufuo/fufu is usually served in Asanka or Ayowaa (an earthware bowl; black or red in color) with the liquid soups poured on the Fufuo/fufu to look like an island which helps reduce the stickiness while eating.
*Right way to eat Fufu:
In between both the index and middle fingers cut a piece of the Fufuo/fufu like a scissor, tap a hole in it, scoop the soup and swallow, never chew the Fufu in order to enjoy the taste of the soup while swallowing.

In the typical Akan region in Ghana, Fufuo is mostly use but Ghanaian businesses men used only the name Fufu when they processed the authentic Fufuo/Fufu into cassava/plantains /coco yam flour 1. ruclips.net/video/SszPhlmWDJE/видео.html 2. ruclips.net/video/Z_XeI7n3aj8/видео.html some years ago and sold mainly in Ghana markets in most western countries such as America because they couldn't pound the Fufu just like they would in Ghana, as it's very noisy when pounding and it became popular among other Africans and parts of the Caribbean and now Nigerians are calling almost every African doughy foods as Fufu even though they have their names; Nigerian Pounded yam (Iyan), Akpu (fermented cassava dough), Amala, Eba, semolina, oatmeal, cabbage.
Just like Bofrot which Nigerians call puff puff comes from Ghana because in the 1980s, Ghanaians brought it to Nigeria and it was Ghanaians who were frying and selling Bofrot/Puff puff in Nigeria until Ghanaians were sent back to Ghana but now most younger Nigerians will try to tell you it's Nigerians inventions
Also try Ghanaian🇬🇭 foods ♥️👍🏽. Try the original Fufuo/fufu from Ghana with Nkrakra soup (Light soup), peanut butter soup or palm nut soup. Waakye (waache) with Shito sauce, Ghana Jollof rice, Ampesie (boiled cubes of yams, plantains, cocoyams, potatoes cassava, Kooko/ taro root etc) with Ghana stews [Palava sauce/Nkontomire stew (Egusi soup) or garden egg stew, egg stews etc.]. Dokono/kenkey with fish and Mako sauce and Shito. Kokonte or Omotuo with Nkatenkwan, Abenkwan or Akatoa/agushi soup. Meat pie, Kelewele, Bofrot, fried yams with fish, Achomo, Ghana Chips, Sobolo drinks, Burkina drinks, Ghana Malta Guinness, Fanta, Asaana drinks, Kebab, chichinga/suya, Ghana sugar bread, tea bread etc.

Indeed! As a historian and linguist (with over 12 years of research under my belt) you have to put Afrakan history into proper cultural and cosmological context otherwise the average person still won't be able understand and comprehend. This is why I decided to create a 15 hour educational series on my youtube channel titled "Afurakan origins of the Israelite Myth" where I Irrefutably unequivocally and emphatically prove that the Akans as well as other Afrakans were the ancient Khanitu (Nubians) Kammau (Egyptians) and Kananu (Canaanites). This is the first series on youtube or anywhere else that goes into the depths of who our ancient ancestors were archeologically genetically culturally spiritually historiographically and cosmologically which is why it took 15 hours to produce. My series is life changing for any TRUTH SEEKER as it proves our collective identity as Afrakan people (ancient and contemporary) meanwhile deconstructing the bible by showcasing the corruptions of its Afrakan origins. Twi is a language not a sub group of Akans🤦♂️
@S E P Thank you for clarifying because a lot of people don't know this. I'm learning both Asante twi and Akuapem twi 👍🏾
True. But there is an Akan subgroup called the Twifu
The group would be Twidan...
@Brynn Danu Twidan is a clan, not an ethnic group
@@stephaniekonam1528 Thanks Captain obvious. Have Twidan relatives and didn't talk of 'ethnic groups' anyways. But sorry I forghot to put the word "group" in exclamation marks to highlight the versatile possibilities of usage.

Smart move to hide the golden stool. I heard about this story aged 8 when I travelled to Accra with my parents from Nigeria. Fascinating.
I could listen to these masters and their tales and legends all day and the cultural parallels to many parts of North American African American culture today are completely stunning!
We are Africans/Abibiman. Our way of culture is beautify with arts, dance and religion. Please lets rise to tell our own history. If someone does, the interesting part will be ommitted.
Just beautiful just beautiful stories of our history thank you
We African Americans are of the African Continent. Only difference is where your boat docked, USA, Spain, Haiti, Bahamas, other Coastal regions. We look like these people, we love vibrant color, we in Detroit, Chicago, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, California, N/S Carolinas, over the USA, we of the continent and only way they can tell us is when we speak, that is how they tell we are from elsewhere (and maybe by our clothing). I am aware that there are brown people in America before Columbus, so some may have that lineage, but even there forefathers came from the motherland. I have roots in Cameroon West Africa.

Fufuo/fufu is celebrated every with Fufuo/fufu party by the Akan news mediums in Ghana 🇬🇭 every year.
The adulterated fufu powder sold in the Ghanaian markets in the western countries is what has caused this confusion and now everyone wants to call every doughy food fufu, even the Nigerian pounded yam and akpu (which is bankye mmore/agbelema/fermented cassava), Amala (Kokonte), Eba (Gari Fufuo), semolina, cabbage dough with Egusi stew [Palava sauce (Nkontomire mixed with Akatoa (Agushi) stew or only Akatoa (Agushi) stew] and Okra stews are now being called Fufu by Nigerians in recent times and it is sabotaging the authentic Ghana Fufuo/fufu and making the name popular and trending internationally in USA because of their large numbers which is wrong.
Whenever you visit Ghana 🇬🇭 ask for Fufuo/fufu chop bars (Fufuo/fufu restaurants) and you will be surprised that it's all over in Ghana.

In the depth of a typical Akan region you will hear Fufuo mostly but when Ghanaian businesses men processed the authentic Fufuo/fufu into powdered cassava/plantains /coco yam Fufu powder years ago and sold in markets in America, Canada, Europe, UK and and most western countries because they couldn't pound the Fufu in the mortar with the pestle in those white countries as it's very noisy when pounding they shortened it to be Fufu because fufu in Twi means marsh or mix and eg. is saying in Twi "fufu 3to or fufu Gari Foto", and because of the Fufu powder it became popular among Africans and parts of the Caribbean.
That's why there's plagiarism.

Ashantis really respect women
Ashanties don't just respect women. We virtually worship our mothers, adore our sisters, and take good care of our wives, nephews and nieces. Ashanti women are good at raising noble men. Long live Ashanti. Born Ashanti, die Ashanti and God permits reincarnate Ashanti.
The love big women. Too
Yes the ashantis respect women and it's like that for *some* of these other tribes in Africa
nah, most (not all) of modern Asante men treat their women badly.
