Excellent! Why? Because no one explains and gives it as clear and professional as you do Gary, a proper teacher! Anyone starting out and wanting to make a pano this is a must watch.
Mali Davies Photography - Very kind of you to say Mali, cheers 👍🏻
Oh hi Mali, nice to see you here~
Noealz - Rain Photographer 😊👍 hello there Seoul mate 😂
Hi guys am I aloud to point a couple things out from the start setting up the camera. Newbies may need to know
Your the first photographer to take time to show and explain how panos are done, great tutorial thanx Gary!!
Great Video Gary, one thing I always do when setting the exposure is run through the sweep with the histogram to make sure nothing clips at any point through the sweep.
Chris Cockroft Yep, great idea 👍🏻
@@GaryGough or just expose for the brightest part of the image
@@MikePageKaltenberg that's what I do too. with the DR on most cameras now, you can pull up shadow/underexposed enough for the variation from one side to the other to not be shocking...
It is as clear as it can be at explaining how a panorama is done. I thought about the waves and you mentioned it clearly afterwards what to do in order to avoid it. Thanks Gary an excellent tutorial for any panorama shooting. Cheers.
Gino Rigucci - Thank you 👍🏻
The very best Panoramic tutorial I have ever seen nice and simple Thank you
Of all the tutorial videos out there teaching landscape images, I gravitate back to your channel because of your well laid out format and easy to follow along and understand. Well done!! Oh, and thank you for you're time.
Consider yourself added to my Christmas card list. Cheers for saying 👍👍
Great explanation Gary. Another bonus is that you dont need a wide lens if you master this technique, plus you retain so much more information.
Jeff Files so true Jeff 👍🏻
Great! Straight to the point. No useless talking.
That's about the best pano tutorial I have watched, there's always a nugget or two from you Gary, great work!
you are the best tutor so far, simple easy and neat
I appreciate that! Cheers 👍👍
Thanks, Gary, for yet another fantastic tutorial.
Good stuff Garry. Every time I watch one of your vids I pick up a useful tip on something I thought I already knew everything about.
wildfisher Every day is a school day for us all 👍🏻👍🏻
Another enjoyable and informative video. Your videos are always centred on the subject or the story you are telling. Where as other presenters seem to make their videos most definitely about them. Thanks.
AlexMcDougallPhotography. Thank you Alex
@@GaryGough Hi I'm considering upgrading to canon full frame, probably the 6d mkii. As I cant also afford a sack full of lenses would you recommend the 24-105 mm lens as a decent jack of all trades? Thanks.
Awesome video!!! You are the 1st person who has explain this so clearly! Thank you!!!
This is, by far, THE BEST tutorial about Panoramic photography! Thank you!
Dominik Deręgowski very kind, thank you
Fantastic demonstration Gary. Specially the prep work is very useful and critical.👍
By far the best video on panoramas. I enjoyed your step by step presentation. I've just subscribed. Thank you.
Awesome, thank you!
Great video and what a teacher. Thank you for the clarity in which you explain things.
I have never done a pano and to be honest I dont do much landscape photography, but the way you have explained things in terms that everyone can understand was very good and very enjoyable, I just maybe tempted now to do a pano, thank you so much for the tuition and your time, well done.......
Des Gardner - Cheers 👍🏻
Wow this is the best tutorial I have ever seen on this technique. Thank you Gary. I will watch more of your videos.
Sonia D , thank you
Nodal slider & base levelling heads seem to be helpful too Gary.
When editing, as you shown..i also use 'guides' to place onto horizon fir final levelling on-screen.
Excellent Video
Great job
Really appreciate your job
Thank you for all your videos
Good luck for others videos
I really can’t understand why anybody would give this a thumbs down. It’s a very informative tutorial. 👍👍 One question Gary. Do you crop to fit a standard frame size or what you think the image will look the best when cropped?
Neil E A bit of both tbh. My preference is 16x9 but I also like to crop wider.
John Smith - This fat photographer actually does this for a living. This fat photographer climbs mountains with his rig on a weekly basis. This fat photographer is currently sat in his huge palatial studio planning his next rubbish tutorial. I hope you hate that just as much 👍🏻
@@johnsmith1474 everybody is entitled to a constructive opinion but you're talking complete rubbish.
Brilliant Gary, thanks for that demonstration
Jim Cooke cheers Jim 👍🏻
One of the best explained videos on youtube. Thank you Gary!
Very kind of you to say, thank you
I have seen many photography tutorials but you are awesome. Very simple, point to point. Just perfect. Love it. Thanks a lot!
Perfect tutorial Gary, i now know where i go wrong, i use landscape, and hand held, so i have a big crop on occasion, thanks very much
Glad to help Cheers Paul 👍👍
Gary watching this from your back catalogue during these difficult self isolation stay at home times this one is great can’t wait for when it’s all over to try this out!
I really love your video such amazing video it very helpful for me thank you !!!
Gary, great and simple instruction on shooting pano's wouldn't expect anything less. This has to be the best and most straightforward explanation on how to get a good pano shot that I have seen .. Nice photo's one of the boat house makes the shot I took 2 years ago look rubbish
Absolutely excellent video. I'm going to go try this now. Thanks so much.
Cheers Gary
Probably the most informative panorama tutorial I've seen. Simple instructions that even this amateur can understand 👍
Billy Coupar very kind thank you

A cracking video, painstakingly delivered. and so very helpful for those of us taking the first tentative steps into the world of panoramic images. Many thanks.

Thanks Gary for the clear and concise explanation on how to take a pano. Wish I had watched this before trying to take one recently. Must get out and put into practice. Also glad i'm planning to head out to a few of the locations you showed examples of in the vlog
Cheers Mark
Great video Gary. This is going to be helpful when I go out in October to shoot fall landscapes.Great timing

Excellent tutorial. Easy to follow. Nice one, Gary
Dave Arkanoid Gilbert cheers Dave
Thank you for the great tutorial. I learned that my first attempt was done totally wrong hence not being able to get my images to merge correctly. Mr. Gough you're a wealth of knowledge and I appreciate that you share your professional tips with us amatures so we can better photography skills.
You are so welcome!
Absolutely wonderful tutorial Gary. It's really great how you take us from In-Camera to Adobe with every step on the way. Thanks a million..!
You're welcome, thank you
As someone fairly new to this type of photography, this was one excellent vlog ,I have looked for a simple basic clear explanation and you came up with what I needed, very well done ,many more like this please.
Thanks Gary - really enjoyed your upbeat and enthusiastic style of instruction. I have been making panoramas previously, but there was plenty of useful information in here :)
Cheers Ali 👍 Hope you can join me today @ 18:00 (UK) for a live show on my YT channel? Cheers

Nice job Gary. Thanks for this lesson.
Michael Slaunwhite - you’re welcome. Cheers 👍🏻
The Best video, on how to take a pano I’ve ever seen, instant sub
Thanks for the sub!
This is great. A video made by someone professional who knows all the basics of photography, reminding me of the (late) great Geoffrey Sheard, my photography tutor from my Art College days. An excellent video. Thank you so much!
Very clear, concise and informative. Thank you, Gary.
I did have an issue with the red text over the trees (quite illegible to me, unfortunately). Nice and simple indeed. Thank you for putting this out there!
Andrew Frost cheers Robert. Thanks for letting me know it was an issue. I’ll avoid that next time
Superb, clear and simple to follow explanation of how to take & post-process a pano. Best I've seen. Well done Gary 👏👏
Cheers Steve
Fantastic video Gary, came across you via your Murray Wilkie interview, and as a newb photographer this is gold dust...... well explained, detailed enough not to over complicate things and lose me half way through. Wonderfully thought out and presented just what the dr ordered. Feeling inspired between you and Murray. RUclips can bring education, recreation and information in an understandable format....
Your teachable, Likeable, and I enjoy the comfort of your RUclips setting. It's like having an Uncle-Photographer, so I subscribed. Would like to see more.
I'm gonna try this. Thanks for this tutorial
This is a great video about panorama photos, congratulations and thank you Gary!!!
Ivo Castro Jr Thank you 👍🏻
Some great tips in this video.....thanks!
Bret Bihler cheers Bret 👍🏻
Stunning tutorial so much simplified and elaborate step by step. I shall make a notes of this and practice Gary. Thank you.
Very detailed and informative!
Thank you!
Thank you for a great clear tutorial can't wait to try your method.
Stephen McLean cheers
Thanks for this Gary, you made it super simple and easy to understand! New sub :) PS, The lakes is my stomping ground!
Glad it helped. Thank you
A sound and uncomplicated teaching tutorial, well done Gary.
Thanks for this Gary..had to chuckle at the English proclivity to call the ground outside 'the floor' though.
Gary S - lol I noticed that in the edit 😁😁
Another well presented video, anyone following this tutorial guide are sure to produce great panoramas.
Thanks Gary, will be trying this out in the Lakes this weekend, your such a clear and to the point teacher, top job.
Thank you for these clear explainations.
But what about the nodal point setting ?
In which case would it be a problem ?
excellent tutorial- cant wait to go out and try it
Bevlea Ross cheers
Great again Gary.
You are top of the bunch Without a doubt. Best wishes
Denis Grehan thank you Denis 👍🏻
Another really well presented tutorial. Thanks.
Hi Gary, great tutorial. I use ACR's pano tool for handheld shots of skyscrapers in the City of London, so I work from bottom to top, rather than left to right. I find Photoshop's Photomerge a bit hit and miss. Subscribed.
Dave Wood cheers Dave
Top tutorial video Gary and beautiful pano images 👍
Mikes Photos Online cheers Mike
Minor point. I would rather use an L-Bracket and mount my camera on top of the tripod to reduce paralax. Better yet, use a nodal slide.
What I was thinking. Not great having the camera hanging off the pan tilt/head tilted all the way over like that, even shooting a far-away subject (but especially if you want some foreground). Everything you can do to make it easier for your software to stitch will give a better result. I made a pano head out of two steel shelving brackets and two pieces of mdf with a t-nut for a swivel, and put a quick-release shoe on horizontal arm - the most budget option and works perfectly to eliminate parallax. There are some cheap options on ebay and such, too.
@@PinataOblongata Would you please upload a picture/drawing of your DIY pano head? Sounds fascinating. Thanks.
Piñata Oblongata p
@@PinataOblongata I also thought of this problem. But it may be no problem any longer if software can deal with it. So, the choice is: to "help" sofyware, i.e. save a couple of seconds of your PC machine time or get rid of extra hardware on your tour ( that is as more noticeable as the longer trip you take). I choose the second option, provided that software can stitch framer really seamlessly.
@@vedarius If the software could deal with it, I definitely wouldn't bother ;)
Terrific step by step vlog Gary. thank you
Vincent Spratling cheers 👍🏻
Big thumbs up for this gary thank you 👍🏼👍🏼
carl edwards cheers Carl 👍🏻
Thanks Gary that was very straight forward and easy to follow. The importance of having a level tripod is crucial and I will have to see what I can add to my kit to enable that.
Fantastic tutorial Gary, thank you 🙏
Most accurate tutorial and most simple. New subscriber here! Greetings from Philippines!
Thanks for subbing! Cheers 👍👍
Brilliant advice, many thanks for effort & sharing. Take care :-)
Thanks Gary, clear and concise, very helpful information. I'm not sure I would have thought of the vertical orientation advantages on my first excursion out, probably only after coming home and thinking "Boy I wish there was more info top and bottom!" Cheers!
Great one Gary! 👌🏻📹📸🎬
James Macdonald cheers
Thank you Gary a very good explanation of how to get the best panorama image
Explained perfectly and some great tips. Thank you for sharing Gary 😊
Colin Stalker cheers Colin
what a fantastic video, thanks Gary
Robert Young Cheers Robert
Great video tutorial Gary, really slick, professionally presented with lots of useful hints and tips. I really enjoyed it and will try to remember everything I've learned next time out. Del
Derek Willson Cheers Del 👍🏻👍🏻
A great clear introduction, I wish I'd had that to see when I was first starting out. Well done!
1spitfirepilot thank you as always 👍🏻
I echo those who say "Excellent" It was thorough, interesting and educational. Luckily, I knew most of this but that just helped me to realize how good it was. If you are doing more such vids, there will soon be one of which I am ignorant, yet I shall have confidence because I know how good this one was. Much appreciated Mr G and do please do more; thank you.
Thank you for sharing Gary, always work the way you say..
That was great Gary - very methodical and really interesting. I've not often done panoramas, I don't know why as you've explained it really clearly there so I'll be giving it a go.
Thank you Gary well explained in very simple terms for a beginner.
Lynn Milner thank you Lynne 👍🏻
Love this. Thank you for posting. At some stage, 'Part B' being the process flow from the end of this video through to the end of a final print would be great - far too few photographers have their work printed anymore in my opinion
Northryder - a picture isn’t a picture until it’s printed 😁
great tutorial. I have a question is it not better to use a nodal slider? do you ever use one? also if you want to do a multiple row panorama can you do it with a
1 a nodal slider 2 a gymbal head or a panorama head. Or can you don a multiple pano just using a tripod head.
Oh, as always Gary, very informative, I always learn from your teaching's.
NODAL POINTS & PARALLAX - A lot of people are making assumptions that I failed to mention how important Parallax and Nodal points are... Well, THEY AREN'T for 99.9% of the time!!!
I have never taken a Pano that didn’t stitch together effortlessly. Also to note, software has come on leaps and bounds.
Just think about this though... Panoramas are usually distant objects. Subjects that are normally a mile or miles away from your camera. Do you honestly believe that tilting a tripod head an inch or two off centre will REALLY make that much of difference? WELL IT DOESN'T AND PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING! When I shoot Panos handheld I turn my body around like a lighthouse, and guess what, It's always perfect! :)
Examples can be found on RUclips that demonstrates why it's necessary to find the nodal point of your camera lens, but that's simply because the fingers being held up are a matter of inches away from the camera. Take the same 2 fingers and move them a mile away from the camera, now how much distortion is there?
Nodal points and Parallax are important but only if subjects are really close to the camera, like a statue for instance.
Don't be that person that regurgitates nonsense found on RUclips!
Gary
Great video Gary, I've learnt loads from it! Simple and easy instructions to follow that will help us all. Can we have more of these type of videos please!
Chris Smith Thank you Chris. Loads more on the way 👍🏻
Gary, thank you for this video. It is exactly the information I needed for an upcoming trip to Alaska. I am now a subscriber.
