This is similar to advice in "how to win friends and influence people". He even gives an example of someone wanting something from someone but rather than ask directly he suggests making small talk, complimenting the person on something that matters to them, so that then next time you have better rapport.
You pitch based on the listener's perspective not yours. What do they want to hear? What do they need to hear? What do you want them to hear? After you take care of their needs, then sell them what you want to sell them. But if you don't take care of them on the outset of the conversation, they won't listen. Need to take care of that issue first. Have someone try that on you and see how you feel.
This guy is amazing. So much wisdom in every video he’s in.
To be fair I really wanted to know what was going to happen in the movie that opens on the Empire State building.
Who care we're all gonna die at some point
You can't pan down. But you definitely can tilt down.
@Corpsefoot Gaming It is important to use the right tools for the job and the right words for the proper expression. Otherwise you engage in brain reading and the chance of mistakes increases.
What great advice! I read a book once called Spin Selling that uses this method of building a relationship.
to me this sounds counter-intuitive. first off, I'd feel like the other person would think I was 'stalking' them. I mean, what are the chances I'd 'happen' to bump-into them three times?
Secondly, it comes off as insincere... I mean, who's not going to think that the only reason you approached them the first and second times, was solely to set the stage for the third time when, WHAM, you try to make your pitch?
I think the best approach is to figure out how to contact them via email. Then they (or a support person) can read the message at a convenient time, and without any time pressures. You give them the jist of your pitch, and then they can decide if they want to reply back because they are intrigued and want more details.
I agree. I find it lacky of ethics to strategise
True story: I work in animation. Back in 2007 I went to the Television Animation Conference to pitch ideas. It was an event for executives, which I am not, I'm just an animator. I knew, from the delegate booklet they give us, that the head of development at the Cartoon Network would be there. It even had a photo of her, so I knew what she looked like. I made a plan to 'accidentally' bump into her over the weekend event whenever I could, and amuse her with a funny story, and then ask her if she would hear my pitches. And so I did. I bumped into her in the hallway, i bumped into her on the boat cruise, i bumped into her in the lobby, i bumped into her on the bus, and each time I told her a funny story that made her laugh. On the last day of the weekend event, there was a picnic. I was sitting by myself at a table, she was with a group of tv execs about 50 yards away. She noticed me, and left her group to come talk to me. She said I was very funny, and that I should come to the Cartoon Network to pitch to her. She asked me to come pitch! I didn't even have to ask her. So my plan worked even better than I... planned. Was it stalking? No, because stalking requires the other person to feel uncomfortable and/or fearful. I made her laugh. Stalking also is an effort to maintain power or control. I wasn't after power or control, I just wanted to pitch to her. My 'bumping' in to her was definitely not accidental, it was planned, it was deliberate... it wasn't stalking in the legal/criminal sense, but it was stalking in the dictionary sense: to pursue or approach. The point is, it worked.
So the answer to grabbing someone's interest is to basically stalk them? XD
You must be from Brooklyn: brutally frank, honest & no BS to the point advice.
Why break it into parts?
Has this guy ever sold anything with his pitch advices 🤷🏾♂️
I'm not famous but I definitely prefer the guy from the Empire State Building, at least I don't have to be listening to crap about an inexistent mother for three continued events!...I mean, really?
Seriously though, where the hell is the link to part 2? I can’t find it.
Sorry about that. We have a link the description but here it is - ruclips.net/video/e8BcflTUfLM/видео.html
We've now added a pinned comment.
"Panning down" - Hahahahaha.
(singing like George Harrison) "There's a fine line in L.A. ... and my friends have found a way ... "
To resume : go stalk them.
Him: please no, no one wants a pitch in a social circumstance.
Meghan markle & price harry: yeah we're just gonna pretend we didn't hear that...
I'm confused on how to write a treatment. Is it like a storyline info like on a back of the dvd cover ?
I have a really great comment. Ok so what I want to write is...................................... to see my great comment go to part 2
I'm working on a script a true-story when it's all written and worked out who has the phone number or the website to go to to pitch it to the batter?

Thank you for your feedback Sean. We agree and we've worked over the years to improve our production quality. Here's a more recent interview we filmed with Marc and his wife Elaine - ruclips.net/video/J9VaBpU9i-I/видео.html
