Perfect timing of this video's release! Our company is planning on accepting applications from media groups and want them to pitch their treatments. This is very insightful, thank you!
I just started writing an idea I had since years ago. I think now is the right time for it to grow and I found your masterclass really helpful to guide me in the right direction... thanks a lot.
i have attempted a cartoon series pitch in the long past. My priority are feature film materiel AGAIN to agents and managers, on top contests - this video works for that too.
Some ideas I can think of: 1. Cyberpunk setting involving a scientist going on the run from those who seek to use his technology for evil, technology that allows one absolute control over metal, even allowing them to transform their body into it and manifest from their body any sort of metallic weapon. 2. Fantasy urban setting involving families specializing in different forms of elemental magic engaging in combat with each other over personal grudges, the desire to be the most powerful in their city, etc. that threatens to culminate in a bloody magic massacre. 3. A horror drama about boy who impulsively slaughters a group of bullies who slaughter a stray dog and her puppies, save one that managed to hide which he later asks his parents to adopt. Each season follows a different stage of his life as we see him murder many who are guilty of abuse towards animals in various ways while trying to live a normal life. 4. A drama following the development of technology that makes zoolingualism (talking to animals) a common practice and the pros and cons resulting from it's creation. 5. A feudal-era Japan drama that follows an orphaned child whose village was slaughtered by a vengeful kunoichi. He travels to the nearest lord begging for assistance and spends his entire life vowing to slaughter said kunoichi through learning the battle methods of both samurai and ninja. He receives assistance from legendary Japanese historical figures and supernatural yokai such as kitsune, tanuki, bakeneko, etc, some hostile and others friendly.
I feel the second and 5 ideas can work with proper worldbuilding, everything else is good edit; i'm no expert just some guy who liked your ideas and shares his opinion
Damn, if only I saw this video before I did my panel at PAX. That roadmap breaks everything down so well, definitely implementing it. Thanks Studio Binder!
Here's my superhero sitcom idea, it's basically a Friends rip off, bare with me please, it's just a few seconds off your precious time: Six, or whatever the number, age or gender, close friends try to balance between their personal lives and their secret, superhero identities, each one keeps his/her secret identity to him/herself and that creates havoc and funny situations that go haywire almost every single time they try to get together and relax. They all hang out at the Hero's Hutt or something like that, hope u like it.. That's my idea and I take full credit, if somebody else has already thought about it I'm not responsible for the leak..This thing could be the next huge sitcom if done right..
question: if I finish the pitch book, where and how do I pitch the story? what do I need? is it OK to pitch with only the written scenario with reference images in a file?
Great video! Packed more into three and a half minutes than most instructors can pack in a whole lecture - NUFF SAID! Funny too! Who is that guy!?!? :-)
Thanks for the video, but beyond putting together a nice presentation (your video), how do you actually pitch? Who do you reach out to? These worlds seem so closed off, would appreciate any tips on who to reach out to and how to book an “interview” for your project. Thanks
A great idea would be one involving a town where all the inhabitants are serial killers. The main threat to the town comes in the form of two siblings. Their parents were victims of a killer from the town and gave birth to them before dying from their wounds. The siblings discovered the fate of their parents as young adults and who was responsible and intend to slaughter the entire town in revenge one killer at a time.
If you can, I want to know who , where, etc. to pitch an idea. I looked at a site that promised to check out your idea.... for $99 dollars. Yeah, right I am going for that one. In fact, in this age of ideas spread all over the internet, why isn't there a site yet that collects ideas? Or is there something I hope isn't true about Hollywood and writing (exclusive.)
it's NOT ROBERT EVANS WHO SAID: "Luck is when opportunity meets preparation"!!!. Some attribute it to Louis Pasteur, but this quote is by Roman philosopher Seneca. Thanks for the video...very instructive indeed.
Well, technically, Robert Evans did say it, albeit quoting Seneca. We hope you learned a thing or two about pitching TV show ideas! If you liked this content, feel free to check out our blog. Here's an article from there that teaches you how to write a film treatment that would be used when pitching: www.studiobinder.com/blog/how-to-write-film-treatment/ Cheers! 🎬
How has this evolved over time? Do you think old movies had the types of characters or the structure for developing characters they do now? This is for a class assignment
My reality show idea. Follow a personal trainer as they hop on the truck with over weight truck drivers and watch their journey as the trucker learns how to be healthy on the road and the trainer navigates the difficulties of life on the road. "Heavy hauling"
I have a show idea! It's a teen version of Dead like me, I even wrote a trailer for it! Since I am a kid without connections and just a commercial actor I don't think anyone will listen to it.
My idea involves a town with a population composed entirely of serial killers of varying backgrounds within the isolated wilderness of New England. Someone begins slaughtering them, and the twist is that it's not one person but multiple individuals whose lives have been scarred by the killers' heinous crimes, including a victim one of the killers had kept in their basement for killing at a later date. It would serve as a commentary on violence and karma.
Movie screenwriters don't usually need to personally make pitches. Are TV pilots always pitched in person like this, or is there another way? Who is being pitched to, exactly, and how do you even get a meeting? There's a lot of details missing from this one.
Hi @Michelle, nope! The highlight reel it talks about are the highlights of the show you are pitching. So in other words any big events that happen in the show.
I felt personally attacked when he said “it’s been a month since anyone’s looked me in the eye it’s a writers thing” lmaooooo
Way he described breaking bad was riveting.
It's all about how you structure the pitch. We actually used our own pitch template for it (you can grab it for free too in the link). :-)
Just one of the best all time shows for sure!
The way he broke breaking bad down was fireeeeee
right? now here I am about to rewatch the series for the bazillion time.
Brilliant pitch!
"It's been months since anyone has looked at me in the eyes, it's like a writer's thing."
Spoken like a true writer and it's hilariously accurate.
Honestly the Breaking Bad pitch gave me goosebumps. That's how I want to deliver! Thank you for this video and the series of How to Make a TV Show! ❤

How's your writing going now a days?

I want to see how they actually pitched breaking bad to AMC bc before breaking bad there was no such thing as breaking bad
There was the wire
And The Jerry Springer Show... they are basically the same thing.
Sopranos, The Sheild and so many of other shows that led the way to were we are now
He actually had some issues with other studios because of the show weeds but AMC knew they would have different vibes.

Can you write a Shortfilm idea for me
I feel the second and 5 ideas can work with proper worldbuilding, everything else is good
edit; i'm no expert just some guy who liked your ideas and shares his opinion
Is the template what they call a one sheet?
How do you get the interview??? This is the question. I've seen so many ideas on what to do, but I need to know how you get your foot in the door.
Enter writing competitions constantly
Kick the door, point at ceo and tell him he's hired
Thank you! Watched this twice and pumped out a great first draft.
Damn, if only I saw this video before I did my panel at PAX. That roadmap breaks everything down so well, definitely implementing it. Thanks Studio Binder!
Did you have anything in film to show them when you went in? Curious..
Excellent!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Should we make more screenwriting related videos?
I'm a high school drama and going to use this with my students this week. Thanks! It's well done.

This is great guys.. I think its even helped me plot out a really good treatment. Bravo
Is there a video for pitching features?
"It's been a month since I've looked anyone in the eyes... It's a writer thing"
Same, why is this so accurate?
I'm very thankful for this video. This video has helped me understand and improve my style of storytelling.

30 minutes in the web and already 2 dislikes, The world is dark place.
We're not worried about it, good content will always win at the end of the day. 👍👍

Love this! Kudos.
Thank you for posting this. I'm a bit stuck b/c my show is an edutainment show. I'm going to trope over your format as best I can.

Big thanks for that great lesson on pitching a story. This will surely be helpful in my English class. Kudos!
This is clear, concise & excellent information.
Wow. I'm lost for words. This is amazing. Thank you for sharing.

Great content guys, very well developed. I'm jumping to your website right now.
Very helpful!
Great video! Packed more into three and a half minutes than most instructors can pack in a whole lecture - NUFF SAID! Funny too! Who is that guy!?!? :-)
I know its an older video, but I find it a Binge-worthy classic! Is the download still available? Thank you.
Ok now that I have all these things where would I actually go to pitch this idea?
Thank you for the great advice. Duley noted.
Hi! Silly question, but is this the "One Sheet"?
Thanks for posting! Great info, and cracked me up multiple times with the "pitch fails". hahah!
Does the one with the idea usually become the script writer? Or more of a producer, creative director, type?
Can i use the same formula to pitch a MOVIE idea also??
Yes, you could adapt it to pitch a movie idea as well!
I’m the writer already got animator and artist bouta get started on the show but how can I get my show on big networks
Would this be considers a Teaser Pitch or a Story Pitch?
Thanks for the video, but beyond putting together a nice presentation (your video), how do you actually pitch? Who do you reach out to? These worlds seem so closed off, would appreciate any tips on who to reach out to and how to book an “interview” for your project. Thanks
Could you pitch a film the same way?

What's stopping the corporate people who you're pitching to from basically just taking your idea and saying no to you at the same time?
You can take them to court
@@TheMeditativeChicken Your gonna take a whole company to court!?
Amazing
I think this breaking bad series sounds interesting ! cheers from Rio !
This is great stuff. I'm sharing it with my class. Quick question, though. How much of this translates to pitching a feature? What's different?
Can you guys talk about ways to put up practicals in films
Great idea! I'll pass it along to the team. :-) What specifically about putting practicals in films? What sort of practicals?
StudioBinder LED & use of them in movies , interviews,& music videos
Great idea, I'll let the team know!
For Web Series??
Great video!
Can you please explain to me number 3 the character and number 4 desires ?
