How did this guy write better music 300 years ago ?
My idol when I was a teenager, and stil now the Pole star when I jump on the podium and conduct.
Magnifique Karajan Bach Love Music ❤️
It is very rare to see Karajan at the Pleyel harpsichord....
That’s the maestro!!! He plays it without any single music sheets to refer!!! Awesome awesome!!!
Unfortunately one can hardly hear the harpsichord in this recording most of the time.
😅
Genial Karajan.
this made me happy as i recalled bach and music and my childhood
Karajan=Genius
Karajan=God
Nice.
My most favorite classical piece, especially the 1st movement.
abelsincain no Classic. Music Baroque
@@marcoszamora2089 baroque is still part of early classical music right?
These Bachian tonal sequences are just... AAAHHHH
Karajan himself on the harpsichord...
Well Karajan was faking playing it.
@@kendekoeijer4825 did he?
@@MaxiHartlieb I don't think so, Karajan was a great pianist, he studied piano before deciding to become a conductor.
Awesome. Karajan is very good ...
VERY GOOD THE AUDIO.
So incredible!!
Encore un fois. Merveilleux
f*** is right cuz that s all he was.
Love Brandenburg Concerto by Bach. Although so many people dislike Karajan's Bach
I watched a train documentary called steam memories of Ontario and they had this song playing in the beginning and the background of the whole entire documentary
this has nothing to do with trains, steam or canada. very poor choice of music for such a film.
Happiness word only for this
We need to appreciate these earlier attempts at the Baroque period, however difficult they may be listenable to now. They set in motion the great revival we have witnessed over the last 30 years, and what a glorious musical revolution it has been!
I think this version works well. I like to hear many different interpretations.
Glorious indeed. Having fascists spit over musical interpretations because history books said play detaché/quick/whatever
@@ruperttmls7985 Karajan supported the Nazi party
sublime!!
Too cool!

very skittish one :D
Ich liebe Herbert lang lebe er!
great
Andere Zeiten
Tak.
Bach, a expressão do barroco.
This is just the first movement of the concerto.

Hi,I’ve heard this concert many times.Well done, however listen to Karl Ritcher please. The Rent are shit
Brilliant but a bit soft.
I have a CD from DG of the same concertos, also performed by Berliner Philharmoniker and conducted by Herbert von Karajan, but recorded in 1965. Which sounds even "lazier" than this one. Perhaps Karajan had a different impression and understanding of the Brandenburg Concertos.
❤❤👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻

what is the tuning ? A=448hz ?
In the original video which you can find in other channel, there’s pitch of 440Hz. I think this video was edited
@@ansutan1857Karajan certainly did not tune to A=440
that harpsichord looks robust and big and modern. what kind is it? looks a modernized one
It seems like a Pleyel harpsichord, and yes, it is a "modern" (ca. 1920) version of the instrument without historical informed building references. Since 60's and 70's there's a lot of research and interest to build historical informed instruments... Very different from Pleyel and some Neupert keyboards
Why this sounds like in A flat? This is supposed to be g major.
Probably tuning is at A=465 which sounds a semitone higher than tuning today. 465 is an uncommon baroque tuning nowadays but it was widely used in early baroque music, although it still is interesting Karajan picked such a tuning given the concerto is not a very early pick in baroque repertoire

This was 1968? Video looks much more recent. Are you sure it wasn't 1986?
the quality of film is much superior to the early days of digital, so this is 1968. Plus by the late 80s he was suffering from back problems and illness (i think) so no way would he hv been playing

Von Karajan went in Karl Richter domain…
Is this played in a flat major than g major?
The instruments her have been tuned higher than usual; at 465 Hz. Hence the pitches sound a semitone higher.
What key do you get if you drop a piano down a mine shaft? A flat minor.
@@SuperFerdie1965 haha 😂😆

can't even hear the soloists
Soloists? Aren't they soli sections? That's how I've played it.
+mprz052 oh yes they are
Do you know - I don't think Karajan is actually playing the harpsichord here. There is a sorry lack of footage of his hand movements over the keyboard, overcompensated for by his bodily movements which give the impression that he is playing. There is no single piece of clear aural evidence that he is playing.... why did he agree to do this? He is miming at the keyboard if you will.
Need more zoom
Never knew karajan played the organ
Its a harpsichord
Terrible audio. Whoever mic'ed this session should be sacked.
maxcohen13 I'm sorry but it was the 1960s... maybe some modern post production might be good, but it's seems on par with the sound equipment they had then
Sadly, the high pitches can barely be heard :/
Musicians hairstyles
Is Herbert actually playing the Harpsichord? It looks strange and unnatural, more like a playback thing.
Well, they recorded a lot with playback. And maybe he isn‘t playing in this Video. But he is able to Play anyway and the in the ‚playback‘ he is of course playing. And in my opinion the Video isn‘t ridicoulous in any thinkable way it‘s brilliant!
Leandro He is not. And the video is simply ridiculous
Of course he is playing. I saw him in concert, live, playing a piano Mozart concerto. He was pianist before becoming conductor.
No! This is not just a promo for Karajan and it fails for me as a profound expression of Bach. Also in using modern instruments the players do not seem to get into its ethos.

Ridiculous! It's visible that he is not playing the harpsichord. It's a fake performance.
I didn't like karajan's sound nor his Tempo, There is a recording by Abaddo which is much more beautiful I think.
Schau-Spieler.....
Excruciatingly boring. Karajan was good in the romantic and post-romantic repertoire and his unfortunately few forays into 20th century are also very good (especially his Schoenberg, Berg and Webern) but works from the classical era and especially from the baroque era with him conducting are unlistenable. Sorry.
Quite awful to be honest.
Two harpsichords, why even bother with any? Interesting but vastly inferior performance to a good historically informed performance practice on period instruments.
+PR A Excuse me Sir, am I wrong in understanding that you are claiming that there should be NO harpsichord and at the same time calling for a "historically informed" performance (whatever that means nowadays)?
I am saying why did Karajan bother with any number of harpsichords? It was pointless for his out dated large orchestra, modern performance. Baroque music should be historically informed.
The original score shows a "Continuo" part, but doesn't explain in details how it should be composed. So it could be one or two (or more !) harpsichords, with or without organ/double bass/viola da gamba/bassoon/lute etc... You may hear the St Matthew Passion conduced by René Jacobs and AKAMUS, who uses the largest continuo ensemble (7 or 8 musicians) to follow Evangelist, Vox Christi, and the rest of the choir. Bach composed this for two organs only, and usually a harpsichord or a lute when he couldn't use the 2nd organ of St.Thomas church. It's certainly not an "historically informed" performance, but it's the best one I've never heard.
@@Floridantea Outdated large orchestra... I am sorry but have you heard the minimalistic perfectionist nonsense that modern orchestras are playing with? Karajan's large orchestra worked because not only did it not sound so well... Minimalist but every part was played to the fullest and there was no true stylistic individualism within it.
@@titanicman9329 If it works for you, then go for it. Karajan's practice isn't repeated today on the Brandenburgs. I wonder why.
No.
This is horrible, but Karajan is my idol.
