As a Russian women moved to America, I greatly appreciate your respect of such a dear place in our hearts. I have health problems due to reactor 4 but it is still a part of our history that is important to us. Thanks for making a great video to show me what my home land looks like now.
nooo, you misunderstood the part about the amusement park. It was ment to be open on the 1st of May 1986, but collapse happened before (28th of April)...As there was an amazing spot to watch the fire over the 4th block, people were going to the bridge, where they were getting high doses of radiation. So the authorities decided to open the park, before the official opening (1st of May was a huge public holiday in Soviet Union),just to distract the attention from the fire...It wasn't built JUST in one day, as it was planned as a park to be, but it was opened to distract the attention...
StaceyTs Thank-you. He boggled my mind by what he said. It makes way more sense that they opened the park early. Who would be building an amusement park from scratch while things are blowing up?
Absolutely correct, it was being built for May day celebrations but because of the disaster it was hurriedly opened while rides were still being assembled just to draw people away from danger
The story of the park( from a book )AND MY HISTORY OF THE YEAR:Why did a brand-new amusement park have such a short history? Less than two miles away from Pripyat was the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. An explosion at the plant on April 26, 1986, destroyed one of its reactors. Sending clouds of poisonous smoke into the air. Most of the people who lived in Pripyat works at Chernobyl. At first, no one was sure how dangerous the situation was. The government didn't want anyone to panic, so those in charge opened the amusement park ahead of schedule to keep people calm. The scope of the danger however soon became clear. The amount of radiation in the air could kill a person. Several people living in Pripyat became sick right away. The town was evacuated, though the people were told they could expect to be back in a few days. Years later, the town of Pripyat and it's park remains empty. The radiation levels are still too dangerous for humans to live there. Wolves and deer now roam the once bustling city. The ferris wheel still sits, waiting for riders to climb aboard. You are welcome it took me forever to write this. Let me die in peace
@@GiovanniCloud Correct, Philly Cloud. It was set to open May 1st of '86 for May Day celebration - on the 1st of May annually. After the events of April 26th, the city was evacuated over a day later and the park went unused. It was NOT built as theorized in the video, to distract visitors or occupants from the reactor. Just not true.
I heard they were getting ready for some sort of festival, and that the Ferris Wheel in particular was never used because it was built just days before the accident happened. We'll never truly know for sure though, unless there's interviews from survivors who mention it or something, which I honestly doubt.
brittanie sidebottom I've heard nothing about a festival. but the opening of the theme park that the ferris wheel is in was going to open the day the disaster happened. so thats probably what they were getting ready for. quite sad that it was never used..
It was used but only in testing mode. There are probably photos of it on net if you are willing to spend the time to search for them. The nuclear meltdown occurred a day or two before the park was meant to open. Now it is frozen in time forever.

Eva Greta I actually live near Ukraine, and I am super freaked out by these stuff xD but even though the story is kinda freaky it seems like a cool place to visit ^^
just discovered this channel and what phenomenal timing! it's sooo cool to see what it looks like after all these years. Great job on the videos I'll have to check more of your content out
Damn I wish I can visit Chernobyl. I love history, and it seems so interesting to visit Chernobyl. I hope one day I can. Amazing video by the way Josh.
I've just found your videos and I have to say I'm impressed with how respectful you are with all of these places. So many people would just go in and take stuff or destroy things. I love how you are simply just trying to preserve the memory of these places so that future people can know what they were like, even years after they were in their prime. Thank you for being so respectful to these places; you've gained another subscriber. I do have to say the one thing that stood out between the videos in Chernobyl and videos from other places was the lack of graffiti and human destruction. It's amazing just how much damage nature alone can do to a place when humans are not allowed in. Imagine what this once beautiful city would look like if humans had been able to get in and loot/trash the place.

Yup. The culture place and the hotel
I love old spooky crap like this. Especially 80’s and 90’s footage.

this is in call of duty???
Yes, Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare from 2007
0:30 looks like the building that Captain Price snipes Zhachaev from.
The hotel at 0:36 is where it went down
Hella Hello my gamer bros i love you
Flynn Sills same
And the zakhaev is the cameramen

Man, Infinity Ward nailed this in Modern Warfare, I mean the culture center and even the hotel at 1:56 is where you snipe Imran Zakhaev.
If dolls survived the blast, where did all the grocery store items go? there was no food in sight not even frozen or packaged goods
Vandalising dumbass

shut the fuck up about cod4
