For someone who knew nothing about Moon Knight before this episode, the premise and the way the episode paced was amazing for me. They got me hooked to the character in one episode and I think that is an accomplishment for the new audience. It was a strong series premiere.
Oscar Isaac is perfect for this. Also the god voice is making me laugh "did he just throw the gun?" XD I do have a bad feeling about Steven's goldfish tho... I think that he died during the 2 days Marc was in control, and Marc tried to cover it up by buying another goldfish for Steven
exactly what I was thinking. Watching it twice I noticed the store owner said he was in there before. But what the hell did Moon Knight do? LOL I mean a fish can survive without food for 3 days. He must've brought someone back in the room and knocked over the aquarium. But I don't know...
If you scan the QR code in the scene when Steven is talking to the little girl, you get access to a free digital copy of the comic with Moon Knight's first appearance. (WEREWOLF BY NIGHT #32).
The first episode had me shook. Oscar Isaac is like the perfect actor to portray the character. And somehow, the ending of the episode of where he looks in the mirror reminds me a lot of the Green Goblin persona when Norman Osborn looked at himself in the mirror.
I know someone who suffers from dissociative identity disorder like our main character here... she loses days at a time. She’s woken up with her hair cut off, her hands tattooed.. I’m sure it’s pretty rough to go through.
1:15 - At this point, I was wincing while watching. Mind you, I no longer have surface sensation in my feet, but this looked like it *HURT!* 3:01 - This was just the beginning of that unsettling feeling of being completely lost. I know enough about Moon Night that I knows what's happening, but they narrate the show almost strictly through "Steven's" eyes, so you become as confused as he does. 5:08 - The first real disjointed shift, and you spend a moment wondering if it's dream or reality. 10:20 - I thought him trying to use the cupcakes was a weapon was funny. "Yeah, Steven! Show him how deadly those calories can be!" 16:20 - He think's *HE'S* becoming crazy?!? I thought *I* was going crazy! They did a masterful job of making his experiences unsettling for the audience. 22:32 - This was wild, the reflections - PLURAL! - doing completely different things that Steven. 23:24 - The creature now trying to desperately escape helps to solidify exactly how badass Moon Night is. One of the influences for the style used in the series was "Memento" (2000) and you can understand that clearly if you've seen the movie.
Something I loved is how they put us in the perspective of Steven throughout the entire episode. Because Marc is the main host body, and the one who was resurrected by Khonshu, it puts us the viewer in Steven’s shoes as if we’re experiencing his mental troubles and questioning of reality with him. Very genius imo. And I’m sure we’ll get to see Marc’s comic origin and becoming MK (or a version of it) through flashbacks. As someone who’s been a fan of Moon Knight for years, I was incredibly happy with how this first episode was, and love that they saved the suit reveal towards the end. Honestly gets a 10/10 from me
Based on the way this episode played out I think they changed who’s host. I think Steven is supposed to be host here because he’s the only one with a physical life with a job and everything where people know him as Steven. 🤷🏻♂️
@Dylan Cole in the comics Marc, Steven, and Jake all have different lives they live. And throughout the episode, we do learn that Marc is a mercenary just like the comics, and that’s who Layla knows and who Harrow first recognized him as. We just simply saw this episode through Steven’s POV first
@@rileyribble6733 how would they be able to live three different lives if Stevens life demands so much time? I get that it’s possible for Marc to do his mercenary thing but how are the other alters able to have physical lives? I feel like knowing Marc is supposed to be the host kind of confuses me when the show treats Steven like the host. I guess I’ll just have to see how they deal with that for it to make more sense.
@Dylan Cole I get what you’re saying don’t worry. My grandmother wasn’t familiar with the character going in either, and she was kinda thinking the same way you are. But it was very intentional on their part to show it that way. I’m sure that in the episodes to come they’ll show how the different personalities coexist with one another. Idk how true to the comics they’ll make it cuz they changed Steven up quite a bit (but for the better) but each personality serves different roles too. Like Marc is the mercenary, you have MK obviously, Steven in the comics was a millionaire with a business (a coverup for Marc’s mercenary money, but I’m glad they’ve changed it here), and Jake Lockley is a cab driver who gets info on the street level about crime and stuff. So my point is that they do all coexist in some way without actually intending to sometimes, it’s just a matter of how they’ll show it in the series
Not only one of the best pilot episodes of a tv show but also one of the most insanely mind bending episodes of tv I have ever seen in my life. Just the camerawork alone in this show is amazing, how it makes you feel almost discombobulated like Steven does when he “wakes up” between action scenes. Now when I recommend this to people I will say DON’T watch any trailers, just do what Steven does and go in blind and strap yourselves in. My one nitpick is that in the opening when he walks with the glass in his shoes he should have blood gushing from his sandals like when you walk in water with sandals and the water spills over.😂😂
Blood would not be gushing from his sandals as that is a ritual that Arthur Harrow has been doing for Years and the scar tissue has toughened the soles of his feet somewhat. Putting broken glass in his shoes is a sign of his commitment to his righteous cause (similar to certain religious fanatics flailing their backs) and it was actually Ethan Hawkes idea helped by him using the cane.

So far I'm loving this show 😱 My theory is since Moon Knight made multiple personalities, this Steven persona probably wasn't supposed to be in control this much. Maybe that's why the voice in his head called Steven a parasite.
Super reaction, Magy! “Disturbing” (as you say, Magy) as well as “gritty” and “hair-raising” seem like good words to describe the atmosphere of this episode - and series too, perhaps. Yooo ! I loved your reaction, Magy. I'm as much af a newbie as you when it comes to Moon knight, the only thing I know about him is that he's kind of the Batman of the Marvel comics, but crazier and with an Egyptian god of the moon as the source of his powers. I've seen a few breakdown videos that explained his character background in the comics, on how the main character in the comics is actually Marc, and Steven is just one of the side personalities that he had, so I thought it was a great twist to start the series with who seems like the weakest and meekest character, to reveal at the climax that he's been sharing this body with a mysterious man called Marc that we know nothing of, only that he can fight, shoot, and transform into a demi-god. That gives such an aura of mystery to the story, and is a perfect introduction, leaving us with so many questions in the head. Frankly, this first episode is a masterful introduction, and a lot of series could take note on THAT's how you open a new series that almost nobody knows about. Looking forward to have my next 5 wednesdays waiting for this one ! (and your great reactions as well, of course ^^)
Mags, Oscar Isaac is one of the main characters in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, which you still need to see (along with Solo), and Ethan Hawke is in one of my favorite romantic films, Before Sunrise (which is also the first of a trilogy). 🥰 Oscar is also in the X-Men franchise as the title character Apocalypse (also Egyptian-themed) as well as Sucker Punch, Ex Machina, and last year’s Dune.
I never got into Moon Knight when I collected comics, back in the day. I always thought he was like Batman, but with mysticism. One person by day, another by night. Now we learn he has actual personality disorder. Oscar Isaac is a very good actor. He was one of the few things I liked about the final Star Wars trilogy. From what I've read, each personality sees themselves as a unique individual. Hence Steven sees himself as the "real" personality, while Marc _him_ self as the "real" personality, and so on. ... This should be fun...
I just watched this episode yesterday and it looks like I will be enjoying this series. I'll be reading the graphic novel of Moon Knight and get to know the character more. I've heard he's like Batman.
Great reaction and I enjoyed the 1st episode and it's been a long while from what I remember from the comics, but I think you hit it right on the head regarding Steven being used as an Avatar to Moon Knight take care can't wait for the next episode 🤙🤙🤙
I think Loki was my favourite Marvel series, but Im pretty sure Moon Knight will be number 1 for me. I LOVE that they started off the main character as Steven and not necessarily Marc. The voice (which Im sure is Khonshu) is actually really funny hahahah: "The idiot is in control", "Then leave us parasite!", "Truck, Stupid!!" hahahahaha. Honestly, when I was a kid I was into Egyptian history as well and just the fantastical nature of all this, and the slightly 'horror' vibe of this show (as a fan of horror), fantastic! Literally I cant wait 6 days for the next episode...ugh!
Magy, I already liked you, but knowing we have a shared interest in Ancient Egypt just endears you more to me! Thank you for taking me on this journey with you!
1:29...in certain Christian sects (especially during the Middle Ages) people used to self flagellate as they thought suffering, as Christ did, would bring them closer to God. This might be the same thing but with an Egyptian mythological twist 🤔😉😊
it is not called Split personality or multiplier Personality disorder any more it is now called Dissociative Identity Disorder or D.I.D. and it is when a person, most likely a kid goes through repeated trauma and the mind can't handle it anymore so the brain creates an alter to protect itself from harm. and that alter is know as a protector. But, the alters do have real memories and they are also real people. This was a good way of showing how involuntary alter changes are. For what I know about DiD, you can really lose days even when one of you alters decides to front. Seems Steven is a fairly new-ish alter so whatever happened to Marc to make Steven take over for so long must’ve pretty large trauma (which alters are born/created which is through Massive trauma). I appreciate the fact they (the host and alters) Haven’t made an “Evil” alter yet. Again DiD is about managing trauma not causing it. Yes, some alters (known as Protecters) can be rougher on the outside ( aka in front while the host is in the mind). But, never straight-up causing problems on purpose only to protect the host and the other alters. And Marc is the host as for Steven he is the one who is the most out aka in front so he can have some social life.
Yeah, that fish didn’t grow a new fin, it’s a different fish. When Marc took them home he must have come back to find Steven’s fish dead and replaced it and hope he doesn’t notice. That fish just so happened to be his only friend so of course he’d notice😂
Imagine a fractured psyche like Ed & Brad in Fight Club and then give that person a spiritual symbiote of vengeance. He's like other characters who are the avatars of various Marvel gods & demons like Ghost Rider or Juggernaut, Marc Spectre was just a normal guy with multiple personalities, Steven is one of those personalities, a clueless, harmless 9-5 drone, an essential identity for a crime fighter who never sleeps.
Glad to see you back on from being sick. I've noticed how much you've been enjoying Tom Hanks movies and would like to suggest Apollo 13. That is my favorite among his films.
Here's a theory: This guy--Moon Knight--is in London, right? Do you remember the character named Dane Whitman from the Eternals movie? Sersi's boyfriend? The one who inherits a sword and tried to touch it at the end of the film? He is in London too, right? And if you have seen the 2016's Doctor Strange movie, you might remember that Doctor Strange's people (the Kamar-Taj people) also have an outpost in London. So, I think... London is MCU's new Manhattan. The foundation for some... mystical thingy that needs to be handled by these heroes, hopefully, together.
Don't worry Magy, we all have questions! However, I think your summary at the end is pretty much spot on to what is going on in the show. Thanks for another amazing reaction. You are the best.❤️ ps- Another thing.. when Mark asked that co-worker out on date, didn't she notice Steve suddenly had an American accent?🤔
Kang the Conqueror and Apocalypse are both tied to ancient Egypt, they both ruled over it in the past, I'm just hoping to see any Easter Eggs or hints at En Sabah Nur, the 1st mutant coming to the MCU. Coincidentally Oscar also played Apocalypse in the X-Men franchise.
I keep thinking my headset is cutting out. Also, I'm with you about the Egyptian gods. That whole ancient culture calls to me, dunno what that's about.
The bird-headed god Steven keeps seeing is Khonshu, ancient Egyptian god of the Moon (hence the name Moon Knight). Ammit, the goddess Arthur worships/serves, is a crocodile-headed goddess that eats the hearts of the dead which Anubis has deemed unworthy of an afterlife. In this show, they seem to be going with the idea that Ammit is tired of waiting for Anubis to throw her scraps of the dead, and instead has begun judging people while they're still alive and devouring their souls early if they're unworthy. Which, honestly, is a really cool concept, I think; especially since it's like, "if Khonshu can have a human avatar, then why shouldn't other Egyptian gods be able to have their own, too?" And it would be super interesting -- though I doubt it'll happen -- if the show explored how Anubis is reacting to Ammit stealing his job.
When it comes to an insane hero, it is not quite "Legion" yet. And I fear, we will not see a psychic dance battle in Moon Knight. But it is a good start.
Oscar Issacs is unbelievable in this. I was vested in his character almost immediately. Spoiler.. FYI, when Marc is out long enough, the goldfish dies and Marc buys a new one before Steven wakes up. Thus the title, the Goldfish Problem.
I knew nothing of this "Moon Knight" but i'm like you on this one, this is very interesting! I love the cast : Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke??? Sign me in! It is set with 6 episodes wich makes sense somehow because at first i thought it was meant to be a movie and not a short series. I'll try next episode for sure, cant wait to see how this guy is connected to MCU
Moon Night, ep 1 review.... Marvel is good at this I was really into Egyptian history and mythology as a kid too. I wanted to be an anthropologist for a minute when I was in like 3rd/4th grade bc of it. lol Find my comment on The Princess Bride reaction if you have a sec, it got buried. 😄
If the show follows the comic, Mark is the main personality so it’s no wonder the Steven personality is always so confused. There are many personality. You are correct, Khonshu is the god controlling Mark. If you look closely, Moon Knight’s costume embodies the image of Khonshu. There are many, just wait, you will enjoy this.
In the 616 Marc started out as an insomniac who became a vigilante like Batman with all the same gadgets only he put Moon instead of Bat on everything. Marc's costume was inspired by ancient Egyptian myths of the Moon Knight instead of a bat, eventually Khonshu got word that some dude was going around posing as his avatar so Khonshu tested him and found him worthy of actual mystical powers. Now you're all caught up.
Khonshu is the god you were thinking of. The voice and the skeleton with the skull of a bird are both Khonshu. I'm glad you're enjoying the show so far.
I love the fact that Marc could've left the dead Gus in the aquarium and Steven would've simply thought Gus was sick or something, since he couldn't find a one-finned fish as a replacement, but instead he went with a healthy fish and confused Steven even more, probably because he couldn't let Steven see his pet died 🥺

Marc is the real hero and Steven is a personality of mark.
Mags, Oscar Isaac is one of the main characters in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, which you still need to see (along with Solo), and Ethan Hawke is in one of my favorite romantic films, Before Sunrise (which is also the first of a trilogy). 🥰
Oscar is also in the X-Men franchise as the title character Apocalypse (also Egyptian-themed) as well as Sucker Punch, Ex Machina, and last year’s Dune.
I’d love for her to watch Before Sunrise!
It was insane, he got to weird at the start but then he starts seeing himself in the mirror to cooperate on whoever to save himself
I just watched this episode yesterday and it looks like I will be enjoying this series. I'll be reading the graphic novel of Moon Knight and get to know the character more. I've heard he's like Batman.
Some people might be trying to be sleep deprived same way as after watching the batman 😆😆😂
An enjoyable first episode. some venom and Eddie vibes between Steven and moonknight . Great reaction Magy 😃
thats not moon knight its khonshu moon knight doesnt have a voice
Great reaction and I enjoyed the 1st episode and it's been a long while from what I remember from the comics, but I think you hit it right on the head regarding Steven being used as an Avatar to Moon Knight take care can't wait for the next episode 🤙🤙🤙
Best premier for a Disney+ Marvel show.
Looking lovely as ever Magy! And your accent is adorable!
I keep seeing reactors say they will surrender their bodies to me LOL
I knew nothing about the Moon Knight 🌙 But man I liked the pilot 🤘
Magy, I already liked you, but knowing we have a shared interest in Ancient Egypt just endears you more to me!
Thank you for taking me on this journey with you!
Nice. The glasses shoe thing actually feels nice if you walk carefully
This character reminds me this whole Venom situation.
Glad to see you back on from being sick. I've noticed how much you've been enjoying Tom Hanks movies and would like to suggest Apollo 13. That is my favorite among his films.
always Thought Moonknight was Just another Batman😳...Didn’t know there was A Super Natural Element
This episode was crazy. I'm very interested in this series. Love you Magy🙂😊
Moon Knight is a pretty obscure superhero.
He went to top tier due to Charlie Huston and later Brian Michael Bendis doing great work.
13:51 😂😇that's so sweet of you..
Another great reaction & the facial expressions you made were hilarious 🤣. Thanks 👍
Don't worry Magy, we all have questions! However, I think your summary at the end is pretty much spot on to what is going on in the show.
Thanks for another amazing reaction. You are the best.❤️
ps- Another thing.. when Mark asked that co-worker out on date, didn't she notice Steve suddenly had an American accent?🤔
If only Rickon could have zig zagged when he ran like Steven did! This first episode was really strong! Oscar Isaac was great
Kang the Conqueror and Apocalypse are both tied to ancient Egypt, they both ruled over it in the past, I'm just hoping to see any Easter Eggs or hints at En Sabah Nur, the 1st mutant coming to the MCU. Coincidentally Oscar also played Apocalypse in the X-Men franchise.
konshu and his moon knights have been fighting kang across many timelines to prevent him gathering certain artifacts
The best first episode in all other TV series, this is how tv series should start the first episode (for me)
I keep thinking my headset is cutting out. Also, I'm with you about the Egyptian gods. That whole ancient culture calls to me, dunno what that's about.
Yes!!! Shockingly good
I was suprised how much i liked that
The bird-headed god Steven keeps seeing is Khonshu, ancient Egyptian god of the Moon (hence the name Moon Knight).
Imagine if Episode 2 is all of Episode 1 from Marc's perspective.
When it comes to an insane hero, it is not quite "Legion" yet. And I fear, we will not see a psychic dance battle in Moon Knight. But it is a good start.
The girl from the museum kinda looked like Amy from Big Bang Theory in my opinion
11:02 How is Steven the parasite, when it's _his_ body 🤨?
A two "Ay Yai Yai" episode. 🌙
Oscar Isaac is the perfect man who I can see talking to himself
Damn now I wish my name was Marc 🤦🤷🤣🤣🤣
Marvel is good at this
I was really into Egyptian history and mythology as a kid too. I wanted to be an anthropologist for a minute when I was in like 3rd/4th grade bc of it. lol
Find my comment on The Princess Bride reaction if you have a sec, it got buried. 😄
The sound keeps cutting at multiple points btw.
youtube blocked it
I think MCU working in Midnight son's it's gonna be 🔥 to see Daredevil, moon knight, Ghost rider, punisher in one frame🙌🏻🔥🔥
Blade
great start to the series
Where's Hawkeye?
13:51: You got it. 😉😜
11:17 XD
Use this button for constant laughter
Oh wow magy I have not seen this before it is very good
The way you talk is so cute. 😂
I honestly thought that gold guy was a statue.
If you like the Egyptian motifs you might enjoy "The MummY" series with Brendan Frasier.
Solid first episode
Watching how accepting Magy is to the supernatural or science fiction…..should Magy do the Expanse?
In the 616 Marc started out as an insomniac who became a vigilante like Batman with all the same gadgets only he put Moon instead of Bat on everything. Marc's costume was inspired by ancient Egyptian myths of the Moon Knight instead of a bat, eventually Khonshu got word that some dude was going around posing as his avatar so Khonshu tested him and found him worthy of actual mystical powers. Now you're all caught up.
Can we get the Hawkeye series reaction ❤️😍
Yeah that was wierd
plz react to k-movie , ❕
i love your reaction video💚 have a nice one☺️
Khonshu is the god you were thinking of. The voice and the skeleton with the skull of a bird are both Khonshu. I'm glad you're enjoying the show so far.
I love the fact that Marc could've left the dead Gus in the aquarium and Steven would've simply thought Gus was sick or something, since he couldn't find a one-finned fish as a replacement, but instead he went with a healthy fish and confused Steven even more, probably because he couldn't let Steven see his pet died 🥺
Hawkeye reaction pls. Every reactor ive seen has had a good time
Too bad Steven didn't own a parrot and have it die while Marc was in control, he'd have had to do the Dead Parrot skit from Monty Python.
I am also depressed and alone like Steven, maggy 😩so what do you think
Oscar Isaac is amazing 🔥
You will be very surprised when you realize who Steven really is!
Bon Jovi t shirt? I like it
