Instead of raising both feet with high heel, use pneumatic stool to sit on. It can then be adjusted low enough to make your thighs parallel to the floor, or even higher, depends on how tall you are. If your thighs are just parallel, you'll need a guitar cushion in conjunction, preferably the one with a strap and pneumatic.
I agree. Sure, every character can use them, but it can feel kinda unfair when you end up tumbling towards the blast zone because someone pressed jump. Edit: I have been informed that this is not a video about Super Smash Bros.
in most cases, posture related back or hip pain comes not from a certain "bad" posture, but staying in any ONE posture for too long and being in that certain position way too often. this goes often hand in hand with not enough movement through the day. for musicians (for everybody, really) it is so very important to counter that tendency to stay healthy long term. As guitar is a particular nasty instrument, when it comes to body positions, the device shown in the video surly helps. But it is more important to SWITCH positions than to avoid a certain "unhealthy" position. I play with my guitar on the right leg, then switch it to my left (with a stool or without) after a couple of minutes. When I am playing for very long, I might stand up straight and use a strap. Changing the angles in your hips, shoulders, elbow, wrist, etc every couple of minutes prevents your muscles to tighten up too much and there will be no pain if you do not have other issues already. And even if you do not want to hear it, doing yoga, some resistance training or going for a run every couple of days, does also go a looong way. you do not need to be the "sporty" guy or girl, if you do not want to be that person, but you need to physically challenge your whole body to stay healthy. as musicians we tend to only use very specific parts of our body and ignore the rest. 1 hour of effective training every 3-4 days is absolutely enough to avoid these problems. you will not become a huge muscle bro or "waste" a lot of time doing this, while getting 90% or the health benefits.
some people do this. it doesn’t provide advantage to playing, but if you’re used to playing on a really low chair, two footstools helps to recreate that! judicael perron has used the double footstool method!
The likely problems I anticipate with this support is about the piece of steel inside the guitar:- 1. How easy to install it. 2. How heavy it is. 3. Is it made of stainless steel? 4. Will the presence of the metal affect the sound? Also, how powerful is the magnet, can the support slides when you are playing and causes scratch mark on the varnish?
I was using the Ergoplay Troster which didn't quite do the job for me. I tried the Guitarlift and that was the ticket! I thought about the Sageworks, but I really didn't want to glue anything into my very valuable guitar.
Sponsored by any chance? There's absolutely nothing wrong with a footstool - the greats have been using them for decades. If you want to stick some magnets inside your guitar and have this thing attached, go for it. But don't let people tell you footstools are bad or even "bad for you". Utterly ridiculous. This is nothing more than a long-winded advert for a product.
I agree. You have more control with a stand. When playing classical guitar you need to be 100 percent focused on playing and not the guitar sliding around on your knee

Wish I couldnuse this, but all my electric guitars are too different, and I use them all, I couldn't adjust it all that time and I mean these are for accoustics anyway right so.. no chance
I'm still on cups, but I will transition to mags at some point. I had back and shoulder problems and so I realized my posture was off point playing guitar, with the aframe I am comfortable. Huge improvement.
Cool review. I sadly transitioned from a similar support to a footstool. I find the biggest issue with my back is related to the chair and not the support. The magnets snapping to my guitar would give me some pause for concern. Are the feet padded? I assume so cause you've had no problems with messing up the finish. Also, what do you do if you get a third guitar? Do you have to get a new frame then?
Been using my sageworks support for years. If you attach the support at an angle it does not slam into the guitar. Zero damage to the finish of my guitars. For every new guitar you just buy another set of magnets. You can use the same support for 100 different guitars if you wanted. You just need to install a set of magnets in each instrument.
I don't play classical but I sat through the entire video and honestly idk if steel-string acoustic guitars have too thick of wood for the magnets to work. Back pain is a struggle with guitar, regardless if you have perfect posture, and playing for hours on end every day takes a toll.
Ya, I scrapped my foot stool, they actually cause me to be more uncomfortable and probly hurt my back, got one of these frame thingys about a year ago because everyone was using them and you dont have to adjust constantly.
I recently switched to a SageWork support after playing with a footstool for 15 years, and I feel superhuman. I never realized how much the one-leg-up position was wrecking my lower back. I can play ALL DAY with a guitar support. Freakin' love it. Great video, Sam!
Absolutely. Switching from a footstool to sageworks was the best thing I ever did with guitar. I personally believe that a bout with sciatica was due to hours of footstool use. The chair height is very important as well, but sageworks has been a back saver. It also cost about the same as a chiropractor visit. Saved a bunch of those.
I love the ergoplay but how do you avoid getting suction cup damage to the guitar’s finish? Edit: just saw you have one with magnets, I am completely sold now
i use the ergo play (suction cups) on my french polish guitar. i have done this for years with no damage! you just take the suction cups off with the tab as opposed to yanking them! 😄
I love my sageworks I have one, and I have installed magnets in two of my guitars. I recently aquired a third guitar that I am going to install magnets in.
You know what, I haven't bought a sageworks yet and I think that might have a similar problem like the ergoplay, in the sense that it can slip off my leg. One different support that I really like and solves this completely is the Guitarlift it is almost like an extension of your leg. I love it.
A frames are great, the problem comes when you play electric guitar which you definitely need to be elevating your leg for, because wearing a strap will do more bad for your back than a foot stool. The main problem i have is they're flimsy, they force your foot to be in an annoying bent position, and they're TOO SHORT. I end up putting my foot on a box, cos for some reason no manufacturer addresses these blatant glaring issues. Unfortunately you're right, all foot stools suck.
Dude.. when I can’t think you’re any more cool you just go and do something like this!! I have always hated footstools. But I have also always been hesitant to purchase some sort of stand because they are a tad pricey and there is so many options. Who knew if I would even end up liking it. This is the exact thing I needed!! I will be getting one of those Sageworks A frames
Alright, I'm going to buy one. I have been having issues with my back lately as well and think this will help. I was always hesitant about sticking magnets and stuff inside my guitar but if you are willing to do it with your very expensive guitar, then it should be no problem on mine I should think.
Never heard of those before! I recently started playing classical guitar again after a 30 year hiatus, and my neck & shoulders feel really tense & strained after each practice. My guess was that it had something to do with the footstool, but playing without one sucked even more. Will try the support!
I will definitely consider these as I hate the way the foot stool makes my leg feel after awhile. What do you think about gluing the magnets to the inside of the guitar though? That is kind of a turn off for me. If you need to adjust them do they come off easily? Do they affect the resonance or acoustics of the guitar at all? Thanks for the video!
I know you play acoustic, but I need a stand for my electric guitar, or are they interchangeable? I've looked on Amazon for the best rated one but I'm still on the fence because it still got a few bad reviews, I try to look for perfect equipment so I don't have to buy something new later.

I dont get how to use a footstool alone. Your knee has to be touching your chin and the bottom half of your body faces a completely different direction than the top half. Oh boy am I relaxed and stable feeling now
also use sageworks, it's really great. btw don't get the tall version. i'm pretty tall myself, but standard size would be better. not really sure who is the tall version for
Also the standard ProLine footstool that EVERYONE uses (**clears throat** the black one seen in this video) has an extraordinarily small, tiny area of not expensive metal that can (and does) snap very easily the “bigger-a-person” you are. If you have one, turn it over, and look where the legs cross and make the X shape. A small nut holds that and imagine pressing your foot down and loot at the tiny Slab of unsupported leeeetle metal that can ,honestly, just bend and the whole footstool is useless. As a “bigger-a-person” myself and 15yr+ instructor, I always suggest a wooden stool for your hooves only if you don’t have an A Frame or a stack of books, a guitar case, the end of a bed frame, literally ANYTHING is better than said hoof stool. I prefer to wear one shoe with a huge platform heel à la KISS.
Then you'd have the same body alignment problem that a footstool causes, which will create pain over time.
