What if I agree with you is the poor infrastructure that exists for passenger train travel in Canada, unlike in Japan (Well, that also happens in the US and other countries in America)

Well, come on! I prefer the Canadian train. On a Japanese train, you pee on yourself until you reach the toilet. And the food... you end up brushing only one tooth, because you don't need to brush all of them. Canadian soup is 1000 times better than Japanese fish soup, which tastes like dishwashing liquid. Not to mention the dimensions of a cabin in a Japanese train. It's for Lilliputians. Everything is done economically, not to be comfortable for people.
I'm Canadian too from Montreal and I've dreamed of taking that long train journey. Although it's a bit pricey, I think it's a unique experience. Loved the video 💜

Great job with the editing. We took the trip this past April and you have "captured" the essence of the trip. Thanks for reminding me of the various meals - they were all delicious. We paid the ridiculous price to be in Prestige, but it was a once in a lifetime experience (I'm 75). The most scenic section was through the Rockies so in 2 weeks I'm going Economy from Vancouver to Edmonton (#2) then waiting a few hours to get on the Edmonton to Vancouver (#1) train in a Lower Berth. Curious to see how that works out. For those who complain about the state of our rail system take a ride on an Egyptian or Thailand train - ours are luxurious. Don't eat the food on an Egyptian train! We were both sick by the time we got to Aswan.

I thoroughly enjoyed this review. Truly loved the perspective with subtle touches of humour (intended or unintended). LMAO!! Subscribed and eagerly anticipate your other reviews.
I’ve driven across Canada the way the train took you so have never wanted to take the train the same way - however I very much want to take the train thru the Rockies to the west coast / Vancouver - sorry the train wasn’t as modern and comfortable as the trains you’re used to - the food looked pretty ordinary / uninspiring - thnx for being brave enough to do something most Canadians don’t and for taking us with you 🙏🇨🇦😷
Late to the party on this video- BUT I am Canadian and yes - our train service is a wee slow and somewhat lackluster (AND EXPENSIVE) compared to Japan AND it takes forever to get out of Ontario (lakes and trees) - BUT there is no denying the scenery is spectacular!!! Your humour!!!! very dry love it!!!
Love this video! It's the first that introduces trains in western countries, but in Japanese silent style. Personally I like reading subtitles than listening to the host talking and talking. Keep up the good work (and your sense of humor)! www
Your commentary and sense of humour is great lol both the parts were very entertaining! Hope you do more out of Japan trips as well! I've heard Norway trains are pretty special you should look into that!
This is on my bucket list; meanwhile, videos like this will have to do. I did take the Maple Leaf from NYC to Toronto and back last week. It has just resumed service after being shut down for years. Everything went smoothly, and I had a good time in Toronto.
I always wanted to go to Canada. Now I became interested in traveling by train in the country. What I like about your train videos is that they are not babbling with catchy music and focus on the experience and not on you. 👍👏
You have a great sense of humour, many of your comments made me laugh. Come and have a look at New Zealand one day - we have no sleeper trains, but we do have some superb day trips
This was so interesting and so worth watching for Canada's greatest show. The Rockies and the sunrise and sets were just beautiful. Definitely on my bucket list!!
Thank you for this. My friend and I are considering a July organized train ride from Vancouver to Banff and Jasper so this was quite helpful to see what it is like inside the train. The tour does mention sleeper plus cars.
Just wanted to say that I watch a lot of channels and videos like this. After a while you find some of them start to get repetitive with the room and food tours. I always find your videos entertaining thanks to your hilarious sense of humour 🤭💕 Love from UK 🇬🇧
I first rode VIA Rail going from Vancouver to Toronto in 2004. Thanks for posting these videos, I liked seeing what has changed. My jaw dropped at the price of the prestige class @ 12:30! They didn't have then when I went!
Oh my god, seeing a video from you in my home country is so so exciting. I never imagined this would occur! I haven't finished the video yet, but I hope you enjoy the train ride and the scenery of the land, even though our trains aren't nearly as great as the ones they have in Japan :P Edits from After Viewing: @21:28 The Bird you saw there was a Loon! It's the same bird that's on the golden dollar coin. That's why the coins are also called loonies here! :) In Canada, old trains, cramped spaces, late departures, infrequent trains and expensive rides are excused by saying that nobody wants to ride the train so they don't have a lot of money to fix things. This is silly, because we would love to take the train more if it was less expensive to do so (notice that everyone on that trip with you were all older people, who are statistically more well off then us younger folk. A lot of younger people take the economy train rides, especially university students travelling with no car, but it's still a fraction of what it could be because of the high costs). Hopefully this changes with time as more Canadians start to see what trains in other countries (like Japan!) are like and what we could have here. Given this, your channel is doing a wonderful service :) Regardless of our issues with trains, Im still very proud of the fact that you decided to visit us :D I sincerely hope you enjoyed your time here, and I eagerly await part 2 of this series :)
Also its harder for us to develop infrastructure because like, the japanese trains going from end to end of japan is the equivalent of like thunder bay to windsor ontario. Canada is huge! And sparsely populated. The best served area for trains here is the Montreal-Toronto corridor, but even then we do have crazy delays because of freight
I've always wanted to travel across Canada by rail as I live on the west coast of BC, but the cost has always kept me away so thank you for showing your journey!
WELCOME TO CANADA MY GUY!!! Sorry, I'm excited to see you here. I feel we as Canadians aren't represented too much and seeing this makes my heart happy. I hope Winnipeg treated you well, as a resident of Manitoba. Please forgive the rudeness of those geese. They were probably the ones that chased me last time I was at The Forks.
Unfortunately, U.S. and Canadian passenger trains are not kept up like Japanese passenger trains. I am glad to see you get to travel outside Japan for an extended train ride. Many passenger trains in the U.S. and Canada share the rails with freight trains, so there are many delays. Sorry, you didn't do well in BINGO.
On the one hand I appreciate the idea of a toilet you don’t have to walk down the corridor to use in the middle of the night. On the other hand it is stuck under the bed so the time when you probably really don’t want to traverse the train in robe & slippers it isn’t easily accessible. 🤔
Well there was also the one outside the compartment as well, opposite the shower wasn't there? I feel like I would use the one not in the compartment mostly. Mainly because without any form of other entertainment (TV or otherwise) in the compartment I would probably never put the bed away and would instead spend my days in the observation lounge.
@@psozak408 Indeed. A bathroom like the one in the room that was highest quality (was that deluxe or something?) with it's own separate area without leaving the compartment would be ideal but comes with the higher price. I too would just keep the bed down and spend my days elsewhere. Can't wait for the next instalment! These are probably the best travel videos I've found, in large part b/c SST is so entertaining. You probably shouldn't. I've done it by car and if you're not stopping to visit and going to the different national parks it's just going to be a long and boring trip. There is just 3 types of scenery: the canadian shield (this video) with pine forests and lakes/bogs, the flat prairies with endless fields and the rockies. You'd be better off just doing the rockies part, the other two are very long with the same endless geography.
Ive lived in Canada all my life and never travelled further than Toronto, this looks like a pretty decent way to travel to Vancouver, Id love to explore the mid and western part of my home! You've made me catch the travel bug with your video :)
Well you actually have made this look very appealing, I traveled on this last time back in 1980 it was like a trip torture test felt like 3 days and 47 nights ! Things have improved somewhat ,regrettably not to the very high standards of Japan , riding the Shinkansen anywhere is a pure delight ! Awaiting our next trip to Japan 🇨🇦❤️🇯🇵
Well, come on! I prefer the Canadian train. On a Japanese train, you pee on yourself until you reach the toilet. Some notes about the cars on the Canadian: These cars are old - many in their 60s some even 70 years old - and built by the Budd Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a company which went out of business by the mid-1980s. Most are inherited by VIA from the two Canadian railroads - Canadian Pacific and Canadian National- while some were acquired secondhand from American railroads as they abandoned passenger operations in the 1970s. And then there's the dome cars. A common feature of American and Canadian passenger operations in the 1950s and 1960s, these were designed to give passengers a panoramic view of the route, especially as it passes the big national parks along the route. On the Canadian (this originally was the old flagship train of the Canadian Pacific Railway; its Canadian National Railways counterpart is the Confederation Limited), this would have passed through Banff and Jasper National Parks.
This train experience might have seemed nicer in the seventies but I just found my nose wrinkling up at this. Not just the decor and furniture but the food, euch!!!
Made the trip in 1982 with my wife and my 2 young daughters and in a bedroom! Trip of a lifetime. I remember it as if it happened yesterday. It wasn't the Canadian Express then I think it was just "The Canadian" The absolute best part of the trip was not the destination but the Train. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
It seems you were able to see a sea otter and a loon! I hope in part two you find your beaver sighting 😆 It's interesting to see the difference in traveling North American trains versus the ones you have shown in Japan. One really has to be willing to socialize on this type of train travel it seems, hard to be truly "solo solo" 🤣🙏
The shared seating gave me so much anxiety lol. Hopefully it wasn't too awkward for you! Honestly I absolutely love your sense of humor sprinkled throughout the video: - the fear from the drinkable tap water. - "Very excitable" (view of a sunken electricity pole) - "BrMeast" - "I have a feeling this guy is on the train with me" - beaver hunting! Excited for part 2!

I'm in Mtl too and I would LOVE to do this trip. Everyone here acting like it looks awful or sth, I think it looks wonderful and fun and so cool.
As a broke university student, I love these videos as it feels like I could be there. Very well done. I hope you enjoyed your trip to my country!
Oh my gosh- I watch train videos from all over the world, and when I first saw this one, I figured it was another vlogger who travels in Canada often. Then I saw your name and thought "Wait, Solo Solo.. the Japanese vlogger?" Wow! So exciting you can finally travel and see other countries! I hope you enjoy and appreciate the beauty of the gorgeous scenery in Canada!
Oh gosh I had commented on your train video before, not knowing that you have already been on this train trip!!!! It is slow but beautiful...my friend moved (with his 2 cats even!!!) on this train from Toronto to Vancouver...what an adventure! I agree with the other comments, this train compared to Japanese standards is embarrassing. Thank you for your wonderful videos!

Welcome to Canada! Thank you for sharing. Yes these trains are trinkets of the past, but still one unique experience. You have a great sense of humor; your comments made me laugh multiple times. I truly enjoyed watching.
I looked at the Presitge one, you are right, way too expensive. So we are going in March, using a Cabin for 2.

Waaaaaw this feels like a surprise! 👏 Feel so brand new to see a sleeper train outside Japan. Can't wait for the 2nd part! 😍
良い旅行動画をありがとうございます。カナダの美しい風景や美味しそうな食事は観ていても楽しい、続きがまた楽しみです。
I am cancelling my trip tomorrow. Love your humor on the 'Grandma Train', thank you so much.

Man, you savage 🤣
Love the culture shock, no hair dryer, use the fan! You’re so brilliant and funny! I always enjoy your video adventures! Thank you!😀
Canada is an absolute beautiful country. Such beautiful views. Although, I enjoy watching your Japan videos. Such breathe taking scenery. ❤
this was absolutely outstanding the the views from the windows at the top and the food looked so tasty and also what I love doing they most is describing it all to my mum who is partially blind and struggles to see things it makes her day when I tell her all about your videos and the views and if I show her she has to have the screen right close to her eyes to see
Holy smokes, welcome to Canada!! I've been following your videos for a while and it's SO cool to see you do something in my country!
I was born in Winnipeg, later moving to the US. Remember round trip from the ‘Peg to “Couver in the 50’s, CN to and CP back. Enjoyed this video, very clever shooting and editing and love your sense of humor! Well done.
I completely love your reactions to the whole experience so far! I laughed SO hard when you showed the toilet next to the seat and literally under the bed. If your stomach is having a bad day... good luck. Looking forward for part 2!
In my country (Panama) we have a transatlantic train too... But it just takes 1 hour from Atlantic to Pacific Ocean 🤭🤭🤭 Thank u for sharing your adventures... Excited to see the next part
I thoroughly enjoyed this review. Truly loved the perspective with subtle touches of humour (intended or unintended). LMAO!! Subscribed and eagerly anticipate your other reviews.
That was wonderful to watch! Your sense of humor is truly something else. Can't wait for part 2!
I adore the small touch of photos with the landmarks they’re associated with!! I wish you best in your travels!
古い電車みたいだけど、とてもキレイに整備されて使われてるように感じた
かっこいい見た目!
Wow, so pleasantly surprised to see you in our country! Welcome to Canada~ Hope you get to spend some time sightseeing in Vancouver
I've heard Norway trains are pretty special you should look into that!
truly beautiful scenery, and i loved your humor about it all lol
Oh my God this is so exciting. I get so pumped when you upload anyway but seeing you in NA is great!
After watching you travel on your beautiful Japanese trains and ferries this was quite amusing to watch. You always entertain 😊
I was bored in.. Haha
Oh my god, seeing a video from you in my home country is so so exciting. I never imagined this would occur! I haven't finished the video yet, but I hope you enjoy the train ride and the scenery of the land, even though our trains aren't nearly as great as the ones they have in Japan :P
Edits from After Viewing:
@21:28 The Bird you saw there was a Loon! It's the same bird that's on the golden dollar coin. That's why the coins are also called loonies here! :)
In Canada, old trains, cramped spaces, late departures, infrequent trains and expensive rides are excused by saying that nobody wants to ride the train so they don't have a lot of money to fix things. Given this, your channel is doing a wonderful service :)
Regardless of our issues with trains, Im still very proud of the fact that you decided to visit us :D I sincerely hope you enjoyed your time here, and I eagerly await part 2 of this series :)
Honestly, if you have food, water, earplugs and a sleeping bag, it is FAR more comfortable to catch out on an intermodal for riding trains in Canada.
Hast du ein B7ch geschrieben???
Lol yeah, only obnoxious boomers can afford this. I can barely afford to keep gas in my car and food on the table let alone travel anywhere but work.
Hello from Canada!! Its so exciting that your first trip outside of Japan is here! I hope you enjoyed our beautiful country and people!
I've never watched someone with such entertaining captions XD
the rest in pepperoni was such a mood
I've always wanted to travel across Canada by rail as I live on the west coast of BC, but the cost has always kept me away so thank you for showing your journey!
💖The Dome Car and The Lounge are pretty refreshing specifically in the Sun Rising while having warm tea😄.
They were probably the ones that chased me last time I was at The Forks.
the toilet in the room was….interesting lol but it’s so cool to see you traveling even FURTHER!
Hay
Improvise, adapt, and overcome. An excellent life lesson. I hope it stays with you forever. Enjoying all of your adventures here, in Mexico City. ❤
Also, the decision to have your loo on the sleeping compartment sort of unobstructed is a weird choice but eh
I want to travel with him!
@@sunnyside5225 that price was more than higher 8000 something dollars for that compartmet , no thank you very much

I am so happy im crying T_T your journey looks wonderful and I hope you enjoyed it! I've been watching your train/ferry videos every night because theyre so calming. The analysis of our money made me laugh :D CANT WAIT FOR pt 2!!!
Aww! I'm sorry you are nervous sitting with strangers! I really enjoy it. I like to tell them, "hi, I'm Lydia!" And ask, "where are you from?" and "where else have you traveled?" People like to answer those questions. I hope you have fun the next time you have to sit with strangers!
Also, thank you so much for sharing! I am excited to show this to my husband. We want to do a long train journey and this looks perfect!
Greetings from Argentine!me and my wife love your videos and particular humor! Japanese trains are amazing! We hope see more vídeos soon! Good luck!
The awkward comments are highly relatable. Great content, I had to subscribe!!
ive never been on a train before and staying overnight on one for several days is one of my biggest dreams. watching the scenery pass by as i lay on my bed.. it all feels so comforting.
sadly, the odds of that happening anytime soon is low, but watching these videos make me feel like im part of that experience
wait ? really ? how ? where do you live to not have train ?
@@TheGirard62 i live in california and yeah while we do have some trains (mostly freight trains and metro rails), i've never really needed to use it. however, if i were to go on a train i'd prefer to ride someplace out of the country.
@@CPGreeno357 here in france we have a huge amount of train, including high speed train, however the best experiences i had with a train was in russia because it's like living an adventure, the train are older and the travel are long
Oh man, hah. I live in Canada and doing this is on my bucket list. Absolutely stunning views! I look forward to seeing the rest!
You and me both. Although I will be honest, my bucket list version has the Prestige Class cabin. Everything else is a bit too.... Let's go with "Old Fashioned"
The train def showing it's age yeah. 😄
And the food... you end up brushing only one tooth, because you don't need to brush all of them. Canadian soup is 1000 times better than Japanese fish soup, which tastes like dishwashing liquid. “Oliver” had me actually laugh out loud. Great commentary.
Yr video made me & my husband a great night. We love yr sense of humor😂 cheers!
Some notes about the cars on the Canadian:
These cars are old - many in their 60s some even 70 years old - and built by the Budd Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a company which went out of business by the mid-1980s.
Whoa! I'm from Canada, it's great to see you travel to other countries beside places in Japan. Hope you had an amazing trip solo-san!
Doesn't look that amazing from here 😅 Memorable, for sure, but amazing?...
Once Again Thank you for another holiday feels like I'm with you makes me happy Much Love From Australia
This train experience might have seemed nicer in the seventies but I just found my nose wrinkling up at this. Not just the decor and furniture but the food, euch!!!
I bet SST agrees. His mannerisms were legit the [silently judging you] meme.
The food???
this is amazing seeing you outside of canada, i really hope you enjoyed the trip and what sights our country has to offer
your sense of humor is the best thing haha and as an introvert i would go crazy if i need to eat in the same table with strangers for 5 days!
I hope in part two you find your beaver sighting 😆
It's interesting to see the difference in traveling North American trains versus the ones you have shown in Japan. One really has to be willing to socialize on this type of train travel it seems, hard to be truly "solo solo" 🤣🙏
It is my first time watching your video. Now it's Hong Kong time, April 30th, 2023. It is very healing. Love it👍 I subscribed to your Channel
The shared seating gave me so much anxiety lol. Hopefully it wasn't too awkward for you!
Honestly I absolutely love your sense of humor sprinkled throughout the video:
- the fear from the drinkable tap water.
- "Very excitable" (view of a sunken electricity pole)
- "BrMeast"
- "I have a feeling this guy is on the train with me"
- beaver hunting!
Excited for part 2!
