Your reaction is very right. This video is beautiful because it makes evident what you have noticed too, Angelina is not only a singer (incredible also) but she understands, evaluates, adapts and modifies the songs according to her beliefs (since she was 6 years old!) and creates something unique, with its splendid brand.
We are lucky that Angelina and her family have no fear of making public the human and artistic path of this wonderful girl.

I love watching the creative process with Angelina & I am so thankful that Grandma is there filming while Mom is there watching like a hawk (Angelina's Shield).

The creative process is always interesting to watch and analyze. But, I get dizzy, literally, when the camera swings back and forth like that. Far better to pause the camera, refocus on the next target, record for a while, go back, refocus, etc. If you have to pan the camera, do it very slowly and stay on your target for a while.

Thank you for another reaction to Angelina. Before I go any further, I vote that you do another reaction to I Put A Spell On You.
Your comments regarding Angelina's knowledge of music is right "on the button".
I try, unsuccessfully. to name another performer of any age who is as open as Angelina. There are many, many videos of her rehearsing; making and correcting mistakes; chiding the musicians if they fail to play as she wishes, and at times acting like a child. It is difficult to understand how this young girl can immediately transform herself into "performance" mode, where she becomes the perfect vehicle for any song she chooses to sing, and then snap out of that mode when she has finished the song and revert to a child and give us give a wave and "Bye".

I usually like better the jamm or rehearsal videos, for me very interesting the communications between the musicians, especially with very young Angelina

I love these rehearsal videos from Angelina. I have seen quite a few times where she is definitely in charge of the creative process. She has a musical and artistic maturity that many established "singers" will never have. I totally agree with you that she shines the brightest when she is live and performing with a full band or orchestra behind her. Thanks for the reaction.

I'm glad you were able to pick up on the point of this video and why it is in the chronological playlist. It is not a finished product... the mix is just room audio on a camcorder mic, there's breaks and adjustments, it's got the signature camerawork of Angelina's grandmother (who we all love for capturing moments like this)... but it is an important look into the world of Angelina the musician. As you said... she is not just a singer singing a song, she is a musician creating the overall feeling of the song. ...and she is very much at home and in control in a room full of musicians. I believe this was a practice session for the next video in the list (the first on you saw) "I put a spell on you". It's all the same band members that were in that video.

I'm pretty sure they tested several songs before deciding to do _I Put A Spell On You_ for the music video. There might still be many recordings of songs we never heard from Angelina in grandma's archives.

Angelina is the most fascinating artist out there for me right now.For her to have that depth of understanding of jazz complexities at 9yrs of age shows her genius. Can you imagine how much deeper she has gone after 5 years since?Appreciate your reactions, they are always thoughtful.

Would be interesting with a new reaction to I put a spell on you. The first shock is over and the analysis could show more of the fantastic details she have in her voice, even at 9

Very refreshing to see someone who understands what's going on in this video instead of just complaining about shaky camera and poor sound quality. Your understanding of what was said is quite right, both giving and taking instructions/advise even if maybe the details didn't come through, but t still shows that Angelina is very much part of the creative process and that the band members trerats her as an equal, and gives her all the respect she deserves. She had an unbelievably well developed ear and sense of music for her age, and as you said .. she seems to know exactly what the music needs and when it needs it. Her timing on some of those phrases really adds to the groove and the blues feeling in her inflections is absolutely bone chilling.
It's never a waste of time to watch Angelina's recording of _I Put A Spell On You_ .. it'd be interesting to compare your "mature" analysis now with your initial reaction when you watched her the first time, and maybe you could include a few clips from that first video and give some comments to your reactions back then :)

Screamin Jay Hawkins was performing this sing at at his end of performing career. His story was fantastic, he was actually a very good operatic singer. Captured and tortured by the Japanese during the second world war. After the war he tried to live by singing blues songs, invented shock rock (Alice cooper, ozzy Osbourne).
Then a 9 years old actually manage to perform part of this complex story. Of course it us not possible, but she understands some of the story and extends it for us to understand. I really hope she will return to this song in the future when she understands more of this story

She's not just a singer... She's an artist and a musician. She doesn't just do finished product, she personally creates music with people 3-4 times her age.

I think you should do 'I put a spell ' again because now you will enjoy and experience other parts of the song. I really believe this song is one of the most incredible 4 minutes in music history ever. I have listened to it hundreds of times, still engaged me like the first time I heard it 4 years ago. Not because it is a 9 years old, but because it captures everything that I have loved in the music of blues, soul and also some opera and classical music during the last 35 years.
It is so strange to experience the birth of the Mozart of chess (Magnus Carlsen) and the Mozart of singing in the same generation in Norway

Thank you. I like very much your comments. I follow some other reactors also. That gave me the motivation to start reacting too, in french as I saw that there were only english reactions.
I appreciate that you decided to follow a chronological order, that makes sense. But, as I listened a lot of her songs (and for many of them, many, many times), I could not do the same.
I so, don't "discover" her songs live, during the recording. But, as I listen to many reactors, it build my feeling, and I think it allows me to make different type of reactions.
In your reactions, I appreciate your sobriety (no too many "waouh!", "Amazing", ..) but the way you explain what makes you feel what you feel.
My problem is mostly technics. I take the opportunity of this comment to ask you. I tried 2 different mobile apps, the second one works well (Reaction Cam pro) but is quite limited. I also tried a PC solution (Logitech Capture) that comes with my webcam. But I always have problme with the balance of the two sounds. I see that you use KineMaster. Is it simple ?
Anyway, thanks again for your reactions !

Thank you for you comment. I try to be honest with my reactions and not sensationalize or overreact. To many I am probably boring and I understand that, this is just my take on a reaction video. I think it’s great you are starting to react. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a French reactor. Kinemaster is incredibly simple to use. I also use an app called tubemate to download the original music video. The first time I used kine I was confused but I watched a RUclips video on how to do it and now it’s easy. I haven’t learned how to do anything too complicated or technical, but for my simple videos that don’t require much editing it is great and it’s free. Let me know if you have any other questions. I will check out your channel!

It's interesting how this is the only video of this kind on her "Official" channel. It was posted about a year before her "CoverChannel" was created and a full 3 years before her "Fanclub Mosarz" channel. The latter channel is where you can find most of her "behind the scenes" and "rehearsal" type videos, like this one (well… I think *all* of them, actually).

it is interesting to me that her work on two of Screamin Jay Hawkins songs came as she was 9. Whether Portrait was ever performed with the band I don't know. It would be to your benefit to listen Spell again for the nuances that are revealed on repeated listening ....there is a short version of him singing Spell on Merv Griffen before he moved to Europe. He was a master showman, but sometimes the ridiculousness almost cracked him up.

This is her interpretation of Screamin Jay Hawkins "portrait of a man" which was a fantastic and soulful song with a lot of emotion - here is a link to his song - @Zyto. It is really worth a listen. Angelina changed it to "Portrait of a Child" to be more specific to her. I have a lot of respect for taking on this song. It is an extremely deep musical story.

  • @DonaldLancon
    @DonaldLancon 4 года назад +1

I wonder if Angelina herself did the "translation" of gender and age at the appropriate points in the lyrics from the original "Portrait of a Man" (by Screamin' Jay Hawkins) to this "Portrait of a Child". (That would track with what we know about her.) I assume everyone noticed that line where she sings "in she's eyes" instead of "in her eyes"…
(There are other instances where she's made that same mistake, I think, [mixing up words like "she" and "her"] in live performances of other songs.)

Ya I’ve noticed that with a lot of non English speaking people. Even in my own comments sections it’s somewhat common to use the wrong gender or the wrong version of a pronoun. Probably similar to how English speakers misgender words in Spanish.
