hi, great video. i am looking to upgrade my razer blade 15 advanced 2020 and was wondering if these parts are compatible with it and also since the time you have uploaded this video, have there been any better parts you recommend using. thanks :)
Glad to be able to help. It’s a really simple job if you take your time. Plus if you do it yourself you get to choose the best ram and ssd’s unlike any old rubbish a repair shop will try and sell you 😀

I like laptops very much too, they are very handy invention, your advice is very important, thanks for sharing, modern laptop is just too cool, I am planning to get one too for myself, the razor is definitely one of my choice, he he.
If you are replacing the existing SSD and not just adding a new one do you just clone the existing on to the new SSD, physically install and then that's it? The instructions I got from Mr Memory the supplier seem to suggest that but now I'm stuck in the Aptio set up utility! The info in there is recognising my new SSD though, just can't get past it! Did I also have to do that Windows system image too? I would have thought that a 'clone' would mean I didn't have to do all that too.
If you are cloning to a new drive you should put it in the second bay clone to it then take out the original drive to make sure the clone is working. You should not need to go into bios. It sounds at the moment that you have no bootable device which is why it’s sitting there
Watching this 1 year after upload. Have there been any upgrades to either of the SSDs or RAM that i should use instead of the ones in the video? I read something about the SN850X but I want to make sure everything will still be compatible.
Thank you for the great video! Quick question, is it possible to put in a double sided 8tb m.2 by using only the second slot and leaving the primary slot vacant? Would this work?

Watched this awesome 9 minute vid explaining every (simple) step to do just that! Easy-peasy . All apprehensiveness disappeared, and finish the upgrade in 20 minutes...Works great! Looking to buy a new 15in razerblade for editing on the go, tethering, etc.. I want a nice Beast that will fit into most camera bags & laptop cases. I love my buddy's razer.. my only issue with Razer is that it doesn't come stock with enough HD space or enough RAM.. This video is the PERFECT solution for what I want in the new Razer. Great video.

I am planning to get Razer blade 17 2022 with max specs i9 12900H and RTX 3080Ti, it seems to come out of the box with 1gb M2 SSD and 32 gb RAM (2 x16Gb). I was wondering if you know if I could use a similar method as your video to max out RAM and SSD? Many thanks
I have a ssd c and d drives with 500gb each, i dont have much in each drive at least leave 1/3 of the drive empty for each. Will upgrading the rams help with pc game loading times? I currently have 16gb ram and want to know of i will see speed difference in loading times if i install a 32gb?
So I did a similar upgrade but used the Kingston Fury 64gb kit and put a Samsung 990 2tb and a crucial P3 4tb. Just wondering if the sn850x 4tb would fit seeing the prices have dropped so much, would give an improvement on the drive speed ?
Nice tututorial. I noticed you used ddr5 4800mhz. I do have razer blade 17 2022 model. Do you think upgrading to 5200mhz would make a difference or it is max at 4800mhz one? I heard 5200 model is compatible for 4800mhz if your system is capped at 4800. However , I do not want to pay extra if it is max at 4800mhz ram. Thank you for the great upgrade tutorial!
No! Never buy an ssd with built in heatsink for a laptop. The heatsinks are always too thick to fit in the laptop. And on the blade the second ssd uses the base plate as a heatsink
My Razer has a256GB hard drive. Can I just add a 2TB drive in the additional slot and format as a second drive for additional storage without cloning the current drive ?
Hey I am thinking of upgrading my SSD and RAM on my Blade 15 2021 and after reading the technical specifications, it seems like the SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen4 M.2 2280 is the most future-proof option for intense video and 3d work while remaining portible. Thank you so much for your videos referring to help continue my laptop longevity. Also I am struggling to find the crucial Ram upgrade opting me to try out the Corsair Vengeance SODIMM 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 I can only hope for the best. :) a question I have is how much do the upgrades effect battery performance
the upgrades diminished the battery life so little that I didn't notice. Be careful with the vengeance, I had some and it would only run at rated spec on a XMP capable laptop (which you could count on one hand!) you may want to try fury instead
So I just bought my first ever razer blade 15 but it’s the 2021 base model with the rtx 3060. I want to upgrade the ssd but I’m a bit confused on the ports. My specific model says 512GB SSD (M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4) + Open M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 Slot. Does that mean I have two like yours in the video and if is there a specific brand you’d recommend. (Sorry if you’ve been asked this a billion times lmao I’m completely new to computer/laptops so I’ve been watching videos for hours and yours helped the most, so thank you 🙏🏾.)
My Razer Blade 15 Advanced (2020) came with a Samsung MZVLB512HAJQ SSD. I want to add a Samsung 990 Pro 4tb SSD, which is larger and faster than the original. Would it be beneficial to use the 990 Pro as the boot drive and install the original SSD as a secondary drive since the 990 Pro is faster? Or should I just add the 990 Pro as a secondary drive and not worry about cloning the original SSD? Thanks in advance!
sorry for teh delay. as the 990 pro is a bit faster I would clone and make the primary. It also mean if you ever fill teh 4+1tb ssds you can easily take out the old 1tb SSD and replace with a larger one
very informative video, I guess I will buy the razer blade 15 and buy those extra rams to upgrade to 64 GB RAM. I wonder is the OLED QHD worth the 500$ extra price tag? can you also buy the 5200 MHz RAM?
the image quality is a LOT better so I guess if you use the screen to game on all the time then you can justify the incredibly expensive price tag. I am happy with both eh QHD and the 1080p screens though. 5200 should work fine, where did you see them available to buy? I have been trying to buy some to test but can't find any in the UK :(
@@MashITTech I see thanks for the reply. I saw the 5200 only in the Alienware x15. Thats why I assumed it would be possible to buy them separately but maybe not
Yeah the soldered on ram on x15 is slightly faster. We will get 5200 at some point but the speed difference is so minimal it’s not worth waiting around for
So I'm curious what your thoughts are on the new single-sided 4 terabyte Samsung SSD. Particularly the SAMSUNG 990 PRO SSD 4TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 Internal Solid State Hard Drive. Do you think this would work on this laptop? I mean seeing as it is one-sided and low profile.
I think upgrading the boot drive isn’t necessary? I looked on my laptop and the stock nvme is already a Samsung MZVL21T0HCLR-00B00 Has read speed 7000+
On Razer's website it says that the max is 4TB total storage through 2x 2TB SSD Sticks, but is it purely due to size constraints(single-sided vs double-sided ssd) or is there something else at play? Maybe some sort of software or bandwidth limitation(sounds unlikely but I'm no expert). I've heard there are now some single sided 4TB drives available, albeit probably at a lower quality, so I was wondering if it was possible to have a higher quality 2TB as the main drive + a secondary single-sided 4TB for Media Storage.
you are totally correct. Since filming that video I have since upgraded my blade 15 to 8tb! I used the drives- WD SN850x fast 4tb SSD: geni.us/AisQ Crucial P3 plus 4tb games drive: geni.us/WqAzy9C the P3 Plus is singled sided so fits in the bottom slot and the faster SN850x although double sided only has a couple of chips so fits in the top spot. I suppose I should make a video update :)
It might sound like a stupid question but with this configuration, putting the WD SN850x in the top slot with the P3 in the bottom slot are you still cloning the original SSD onto the SN850x as the boot drive and the system operates without issue??
Instead of using easyUS tool to clone the system, could I just use “create recovery drive” from the windows system tool, so that I do not need to open the back of the laptop twice?
I see there are 2 slots of 8GB each by default, can I buy your same model of 32GB of ram and substitute only for one slot? Getting a total of 40GB? I’m worried if this could develop compatibility problems between the two ram’s
Thank you very much for responding!!! Can I use instead the (WD Black SN850X SSD 1TB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 NVMe) seems better than the used on your video, thanks in advance!

That's strange, I also had wifi 6 issues With this wifi card on a single router too! You can ignore any sticker, as long as you do not cause any damage in the upgrade it will not void your warranty. Just be VERY careful with the antenna connectors they are very fragile
Hi. I really trust you and I've decided to do the same but I have the Dual Storage model, with an HDD, from what I've read it takes a 2.5 Inch SATA III, I'm thinking of replacing with a 2TB SSD drive, What would you recommend?
is yours the 2020 blade 15? there was 1 model that has 2.5" and another that had 2x m.2 so I need to know which model you got to help you. You can even just tell me which CPU you have if that helps
@@MashITTech I believe it is, I bought it in 2018, it has an HDD and I can sometimes hear it run (if not mistaken). The CPU is an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H @ 2.20GHz 2.20 Ghz. I've looked at this "Samsung 870 QVO MZ-77Q2T0BW | 2TB Internal Solid State Drive, SATA III, 2.5" - Second Generation QLC Technology" on Amazon, I was thinking of that + the fastest version of the m2 you've recommended. but I have close to zero clue 😬 Would you suggest any in particular? I'm confused. I have a razer 15. It has two NVMe slots, but only one drive installed. There are two slots for RAM. However, checking for max ram, it only shows a max of 32 G? If I install a second NVMe drive, can I bump the ram up to 64G?
You are confusing memory with storage. The name is your storage, you can add up to 4tb in that spare slot that will extend the amount of storage you currently have (probably 1tb unless you already upgraded the SSD). The 2 ram slots are fully populated so if you wish to have 64gb or ram you need to remove your sticks and replace with the 2x 32gb sticks like I used in the video. Hope this makes sense
@@MashITTech No. What I'm asking is are the two dependent on one another? 1 TB is good for me at present for an SSD. What I need to do is expand the memory, or RAM from 16 GB to 32 GB, or even 64 GB. My flight simulator pushes the 16 GBs to 96 percent at times. But, when I use the command prompt to find the MaxCapacity, is say 32 GBs is max. My question was, does adding that 2nd SSD somehow expand the RAM maximum amount to 64? I think 32 GB will be goof for a while, but I don't know for sure. Are some of the Razer Blade 15's limited to 32 GB?
Yep, no problem there it works fine. I tested it in this video: Western Digital SN850X - Installation, Testing and Temps. ruclips.net/video/wxz3Qt_rnnk/видео.html it’s on an alienware but performs the same on the blade

Unfortunately the blade 14 has soldered ram so cannot be upgraded and only has 1 ssd slot but you can at least upgrade that if it’s running out of space
4800 was the fasted I could get my hands on. I did test some faster Kingston fury which also worked: Kingston Fury DDR5 laptop RAM Upgrade (KF548S38IBK2-64 2 x 32gb sodimm sticks) ruclips.net/video/hh5pUCTymOk/видео.html
@@MashITTech the only brand above 4800 seems to be G.Skill RipJaws at 5200. I’m not familiar with that brand. I have a Blade 15 at 32gb and it’s not enough from “some” of the modeling I do. I assume it’s a matter of time before the 5000 and above modules get released. The i7 12800H says it supports DDR5 up to 4800MT/s. So, I’m not sure it’s worth waiting around for anything faster.

3. Just last week, I saw that a part of the back-pane of my laptop is wide open and battery is swollen, pressurizing the back-pane.
I bought the laptop listening to these "RUclips influencers".

hi, great video. i am looking to upgrade my razer blade 15 advanced 2020 and was wondering if these parts are compatible with it and also since the time you have uploaded this video, have there been any better parts you recommend using. thanks :)
sorry, they won't be. Your 2020 is DDR4, I used the crucial sticks which were well priced and stable. The SSDs will work fine though
Hi thanks for that. So which ram would you recommend for my laptop price not an issue?
I love the way Razer let us to upgrade the laptop by our own.
Very good tutorial. The only feedback I can think of is; slow down a bit.
thank you for the feedback, I will certainly try for future videos
thank you so much, dave. followed your steps and it worked perfectly😄. cant believe the repair shop was charging me £50 for this😅
Glad to be able to help. It’s a really simple job if you take your time. Plus if you do it yourself you get to choose the best ram and ssd’s unlike any old rubbish a repair shop will try and sell you 😀
Thank you! That was a great video - it really helped me install 2 - 2TB Samsung 990 Pros in my Razer Blade 16" 4080!
Glad it helped! I had just finished filming an updated version for the 16 but you beat me to it 😂
@@MashITTech Trying to decide if it’s worth swapping out the 32GB of RAM for 64GB - it would be a no brainer if it came with 16GB. Probably holding off on that until I need it.
Will you be testing the Lenevo legion 5 pro amd ryzen 9 6900hx , rtx 3070ti model?
I sure do hope so, I have blown my months budget but as soon as I free up some cash I want the 5 pro, legion 7 risen and legion slim 7i
I like laptops very much too, they are very handy invention, your advice is very important, thanks for sharing, modern laptop is just too cool, I am planning to get one too for myself, the razor is definitely one of my choice, he he.
It is a lovely laptop but such a pity they are so expensive!
It sounds at the moment that you have no bootable device which is why it’s sitting there
@ Thanks 🙂 Ye I needed to do the Windows system image thing: Had to put the old SSD back in, get that downloaded, then do it all again
Hey, I was trying to upgrade the RAM most stores online are saying out of stock. Do you know of anywhere i can get 32gb. Thanks
Would the Crucial P3 Plus 4TB single sided work with this?
Yes it works
Watching this 1 year after upload. Have there been any upgrades to either of the SSDs or RAM that i should use instead of the ones in the video? I read something about the SN850X but I want to make sure everything will still be compatible.
Can you fit double side ssd's in the Legion 7i Gen 7?
Oh I forgot to check that. Will add it to my list for you
So there are two slots for the two m.2 ssds?
Thank you for the great video!
Quick question, is it possible to put in a double sided 8tb m.2 by using only the second slot and leaving the primary slot vacant? Would this work?
Unfortunately not, the SSD is to flat to the motherboard. single sided SSDs only like the 2tb SN850 I used
Would the Crucial P3 Plus 4TB single sided work with this?
Hello i same question razer 15 2022 i9 3080ti second nvme i want take cruacial p3 plus 4tb .. the first nvme 1tb.. totaly 5tb , can or maximum second nvme just 2tb
Great tutorial. I am not too computer savvy, and was a bit apprehensive about taking tools and opening the laptop up and installing upgrade on Ram and SSD. Watched this awesome 9 minute vid explaining every (simple) step to do just that! Easy-peasy . All apprehensiveness disappeared, and finish the upgrade in 20 minutes...Works great! Prefect brief, easy to understand tutorial. Thx!! I likely would have taken the PC to a computer shop to do it for me-- probably saved me $100 service fee, thanks to Mash IT...
So glad the video helped you and could save you the hassle and expense of getting someone else to do it! I try to make these videos for the majority of the laptops we review for this very reason 👍
I am have a razor 15 base. With gtx 1060. My hard disk facing some failure. And I want to change it to 1 tb ssd. Can I do that? And what things do I have to keep in mind while purchasing the ssd
Thanks-- very informative--- Question can the 15 2022 Blade use the Samsung 990 4tb gen 4 ssd? Or even the gen5 ssd?
It can certainly use the 990 pro 4tb gen 4 but I haven’t tested gen 5 yet 👍
I am planning to get Razer blade 17 2022 with max specs i9 12900H and RTX 3080Ti, it seems to come out of the box with 1gb M2 SSD and 32 gb RAM (2 x16Gb). I was wondering if you know if I could use a similar method as your video to max out RAM and SSD? Many thanks
yeah same, don"t worry
I have a ssd c and d drives with 500gb each, i dont have much in each drive at least leave 1/3 of the drive empty for each. Will upgrading the rams help with pc game loading times? I currently have 16gb ram and want to know of i will see speed difference in loading times if i install a 32gb?
Opening the laptop for doing the upgrade causes the loose of warranty?
No not at all, they allow you to upgrade the ram and ssd’s. As long as you do not damage anything completing the upgrade you warranty remains intact
Could you tell us what the stock RAM is for this model?
4800 skhynix
So I did a similar upgrade but used the Kingston Fury 64gb kit and put a Samsung 990 2tb and a crucial P3 4tb. Just wondering if the sn850x 4tb would fit seeing the prices have dropped so much, would give an improvement on the drive speed ?
I have since added a 4tb sn850x in mine. IT fits but you have to use the top slot as being double sided it won't fit in the primary slot.
I expect it will run at 4800mhz but I do have a 17" i9 2022 so I will test for you
The SSD you recommended has a heat sync option is this version combatable with the razor?
No! Never buy an ssd with built in heatsink for a laptop. The heatsinks are always too thick to fit in the laptop. And on the blade the second ssd uses the base plate as a heatsink
I feel like one 2 tb ssd is enough. If I need more I should get external hard drives, since hard drives are still more stable for data storage.
Great guide.
My Razer has a256GB hard drive. Can I just add a 2TB drive in the additional slot and format as a second drive for additional storage without cloning the current drive ?
you most certainly can. You just need to confirm what type of SSD the second bay as they used to use 2.5" bays then in 2020 moved to m.2
For some reason I'm not getting the initialize drive pop-up for the SN770. Anyone else experience this? Tips?
Can i just put a second SSD next to the original SSD?
Without cloning
Yes you must certainly can
Is there any benefits with cloning to the newer higher ssd? Or will it be the same if I just put the second one in? Going off the question by @jozuwe
Good to know this has 2 m.2 slots! Ill upgrade finally...
Great, succinct video :)
Thank you very much!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the kind words :)
a question I have is how much do the upgrades effect battery performance
the upgrades diminished the battery life so little that I didn't notice. Be careful with the vengeance, I had some and it would only run at rated spec on a XMP capable laptop (which you could count on one hand!) you may want to try fury instead
As per crucial website it is shown 5600 as compatible ram for blade 15 2022. Is this right? Please answer
Nice! This is a great laptop
Yeah, it’s a lovely machine and I am so glad they didn’t solder on the ram like the alienware x15
(Sorry if you’ve been asked this a billion times lmao I’m completely new to computer/laptops so I’ve been watching videos for hours and yours helped the most, so thank you 🙏🏾.)
i think that ur laptop can only use nvme gen3 and ddr4 ram, not gen4 and ddr5
10750h does not support PCIe 4.0, it’s a waste of money
I think upgrading the boot drive isn’t necessary?
I looked on my laptop and the stock nvme is already a
Samsung MZVL21T0HCLR-00B00
Has read speed 7000+
there is no need for speed, only if you need more capacity 👍
God bless you my child.
Instead of using easyUS tool to clone the system, could I just use “create recovery drive” from the windows system tool, so that I do not need to open the back of the laptop twice?
I haven’t tried that! Let me give it a go
Hi can the WD SN850 works on the Razer Blade 15 2019?
Will this work on a 2021 version blade 15?
I see there are 2 slots of 8GB each by default, can I buy your same model of 32GB of ram and substitute only for one slot? Getting a total of 40GB? I’m worried if this could develop compatibility problems between the two ram’s
that will work fine then you can add another later when you need it
Thank you very much for responding!!!
Can I use instead the (WD Black SN850X SSD 1TB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 NVMe) seems better than the used on your video, thanks in advance!
Hi i having problem with my laptop. i cant connect with 5G wifi from distance(7m) while my friend having full signal i want to open the back to check but i afraid i broke the warranty seal. i you let me know where the seal and it is possible to open and replace another wifi receiver signal without damage the seal warranty? Ty
That's strange, I also had wifi 6 issues With this wifi card on a single router too! You can ignore any sticker, as long as you do not cause any damage in the upgrade it will not void your warranty. Just be VERY careful with the antenna connectors they are very fragile
@@MashITTech ty for that and as mention can you recommend and wifi received work on this ?? better then Killer 6

Yes it sure would :)
Hey man im about to buy a gen6 legion 7 (3060 Ryzen 7 5800h) can you please tell ne how much storage i can put on that laptop? 2t total or 2t per slot? Correct me if im wrong..
Thank you for the great content :))))
It’s 2tb per slot so you can put 4tb in. I did exactly that to my editors legion 7
@@MashITTech wow that's really nice i was worried about running out of storage.
Thank you man cant wait for your upcoming content :D
@@azcharlie2009 I thought my Blade 15 mid 2019 base was limited to 32GB RAM too, I don't know where I read that but it's why I went for 2x16GB

Yep, no problem there it works fine. I tested it in this video: Western Digital SN850X - Installation, Testing and Temps.

Hi
Thank you for the video. Very helpful. I used the same SSD and different RAM, and it went seamlessly.

How to raid 0 on blade 15 2022?
does this work with the razer blade 14 2021 version?
Unfortunately the blade 14 has soldered ram so cannot be upgraded and only has 1 ssd slot but you can at least upgrade that if it’s running out of space
What’s the maximum ram speed the 2022 Blade 15 can handle? Is 4800 the max?
4800 was the fasted I could get my hands on. I did test some faster Kingston fury which also worked: Kingston Fury DDR5 laptop RAM Upgrade (KF548S38IBK2-64 2 x 32gb sodimm sticks)

Msybe someone know is this ram compatible with razer 15 (2022) laptop: Kingston Fury Impact, DDR5 (SO-DIMM), 64 GB, 5600 MHz?
What SSD comes with the Blade by default?
They use a gen 4 drive but it could be any of the main manufacturers as they don’t limit to one supplier. I have had Samsung, micron and wd in the past
how many SSD slot does it have?
2 m.2 slots
