Eyuiden Chronicles Hundred Heroes is the perfect Suikoden 2 HD 2D remaster. Suikoden 2 was my favorite PS1 jrpg, and this game captures it nearly perfectly. so that's good enough for me. What I really want to see happen is a Xenogears redux.
Although I agree that VI is the most deserving (and my favorite), I think FFV also deserves it if only because it feels so wrong that they remade all the prior ones in one way or another and just never did V. It has such a fun job system and characters, too.
One that doesn't SUCK that is the DS version of Lufia 2 is only CRAP because it isn't even TURNED based instead it plays like a YS Game which DOESN't REALLY work in most of the YS' games theirs only 1 PLAYABLE party member Lufia 2 has a least 7 to 8 total party members and for the DS version that plays like a YS game that doesn't WORK since it would only ALLOW you play 1 party member at a time in Lufia 2 DS. But the REASON that doesn't work is that the 1 party member you do use in Lufia 2 DS is the ONLY one that gains EXP/LV ups in battle that doesnt' really WORK in a RPG that has like 7 to 8 total party members for the entire game especially for the 2 CLOWN bosses that need 2 parties to kill them BACK to back. the 3 Gagharv Legend of Hero's games I believe they were NOT originally made by either X Seed games/NIS America Bandai would have to DUB it and due to them merging with Namco they would NEVER remake those 3 games on the PS4 PS5 Switch any time soon IF ever. DQ4 to 6 MAY still get one but ONLY after DQ1 and 2's HD/2D version comes out first and like DQ3's remake being released before DQ1 and 2 DQ6 IS a prequel to the 4th and 5th games.
@@thomasgellhaus306 YES, the first game absolutely needs the HD-2D treatment. Heck, I wouldn't mind elements from later Lufia games also being introduced, so long as leveling up has a "reroll" option [since stat-gains are largely random in the early Lufia titles], and/or gear for each character can also be customized.
My Top 10 list: 10: The 7th Saga, 9: Earthbound, 8: Phantasy Star 4, 7: Chrono Trigger, 6: Dragon Quest 4, 5: Final Fantasy 6, 4: Dragon Quest 5, 3: Betrayal at Krondor 2: Pool of Radiance 1: Ys IV: Dawn of Ys
Final Fantasy VI would be my first choice. I agree with all your choices. I think Shining Force Trilogy would be my second choice. With the full 3rd game, since it was 3 scenarios in Japan, and only 1 scenario came out here, on Sega Saturn. So I’d love that whole game. And SF2 was my first tactical game, and still my favorite.
Definitely down for Radiant Historia, just so it isn't "stuck" on DS/3DS hardware in the future. And I do want BoF to cone back for real, but the art style doesn't feel like it fits the HD2D, they already had excellent art that holds up
I have the later version on my 2ds.. It’s one of the greatest gaming decisions I made getting the physical for 40 dollars after playing the demo.. It blows my mind they haven’t done a rerelease or sequel yet on more platforms
Honestly I hesitate to cheer for a HD2D remake for FFT unless they announce some kind of sequel with the same engine. SRPGs don’t really benefit from minor graphical enhancements because they are so gameplay focused and if FFT wasn’t such an ugly game presentation wise I would say there was no point. It’s basically on the edge of benefitting from a HD2D remake. The one I am most interested in was Square’s first actual SRPG, Bahamut Lagoon, a Super Famicom game that never came to the west just like Live A Live. I do agree that the Gagharv trilogy needs to be remade, those games lead into the Trails of the Sky and the greater Trails of series of games that every one now loves so they deserve some more recognition.
I think Rudra no Hihou / Treasure of the Rudras has a realistic chance to get the HD2D treatment. It was the last Squaresoft game for Nintendo in the 90's.
I agree with this entire list, Final Fantasy 4 would be a great one also, the Lufia games including the GBA one, the both Breath Of Fire games on the snes, Alundra 1 and 2, and more but to many to name them all here.
In a recent interview, Yoshi-P said that he wants FF Tactics and Vagrant Story to be available on modern platforms for both new & old fans. He's a huge Matsuno fan, so he wants to ensure his masterpieces live on. So I'm wondering whether they'll release remasters/remakes of these two games as a sort of Ivalice HD collection. This would be a dream come true for these masterpieces!
That’s a great idea with Radiant Historia PC in Hd 2d.. It’s probably my favorite Atlus title.. Thing is i thought the style was mainly a SquareEnix thing.. FF IV & VI would also work perfectly.. I still don’t think it’s fits Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger however.. Although I’m still excited about DQ 3.. I’m getting it for Christmas
Giving this treatment to games like Xenogears, Breath of Fire and Lunar would be a breath of fresh air and maybe even a resurrection to those great games. ❤🎉
I think there’s a good chance that we could get a remake of the three legend of heroes games. Now one other game that I would love to see as a HD 2-D remake for me is parasite eve one and two.. Another one would be legend of dragon goon..
So you want them to stretch the game out over 3 parts and two console life spans into a muddy unfocused product instead of the tight focused adventure it was?
When i was young… i’d like retro games to be 3d…. But now I’m leaning more on hd-2d… they are more “nostalgic” for remakes. So for myself, I want Pokemon(it is considered jrpg as per google) to be hd-2d. Black and white would be best for it. I don’t like pokemon remakes 3d anymore. Scarlet/violet open world just makes certain areas look just a big blank. It’s so boring to walk around for miles with just a few bushes and trees to pass by. Pokemon company doesn’t know how to make 3d games man. The fact how rich this company is they still suck lol. They just need to stick with 2d or better yet, hd-2d!
In my opinion there are two games that would absolutely rock the 2D-HD style and that is Terrangima and Treasure of Rudra. Both games are amazing but region locked on the Super Nintendo/ Famicom
Honestly, if you made dragon quest builders 2 as a hd2d, not only would you remake it, but you light a firebomb under the minecraft builders type games. And expand what a 2dhd can do beside turn based games.
THIS!!!!!!!!! The biggest tragedy of our time is we never got a true shining force since part 3. Parts 1+2 are the best srpgs of all time especially part 2
I'd love a console HD2D remake of Final Fantasy Dimensions. But I'd also like some non JRPG games in the HD2D format. Early SquareSoft games like Rad Racer or HD2D Adventures of WorldRunner. Or remakes of the Sierra Adventure games esp. Kings Quest in the HD2D format.
Gagharv Trilogy really needs a proper remake and translation. They are somewhat treating the gacha game ''Legend of Heroes: Gagharv Trilogy'' as a remake of the three games and while you can get the gist of the story in a nutshell... it's a gacha game with bad automated gameplay, *and* it still suffers from awful machine translation. Can't believe any time we got these games, they were accompanied with horrible translations.
Haven't played the games either but as far as the Garghav Legend of Heroes games I will say from what I see in this video I disagree with your take on the original version's combat being better...by the looks of it it's all auto combat without any real control by the player (doesn't show a menu for spells or anything in this video like say Growlanser games (at least 5/Generations of War) do (which would be the closest system I can think of for this system) so I can only assume the characters' AI do whatever they want or, at best, in the main menu you set up the strategems for attacks and conditions to to use specific attacks for when you enter battle (kinda like Unicorn Overlord's battle system or Tales of Hearts R's AI ally strategy settings and the like). In comparison the PSP remake seems to use be almost 1 for 1 the same as the Trails Legend of Heroes games with your obviously Dragon Quest inspired command menu for your turn options, what looks like a S Craft gauge, and I'm gonna assume the numbers below power are for stuff like crafts while MP is used for spells just like the Trails games. The biggest difference it has to Trails' early games is that there's simply no grid system in place (or we can't see it like say Sky or Crossbell) so it looks less strategy based unlike those 2 series of Trails (as where you on in the grid and what cells get affected by crafts/spells/etc become important)...with that said from the few battle clips I see here it seems like this system is essentially the same as Cold Steel 1 and 2's system in how they move around the field and most options they get. So given all that if you like the Trails games any complaints on Garghav's battle system feels unfounded. Now as for the translation yes that is without a doubt beyond disgusting with what they did with the translation...it's obvious the Namco team in charge likely threw it through an AI translator and only touched up the most egregious grammar mistakes as the misspellings/culturally different use of some Vocab (daughter in place of young woman as you mentioned)/just moronic sentences that likely were nowhere near what the actual meaning of the dialogue was (the titty twisting line) never should've been put through. And if the lack of bosses is really a thing in 2 (think you said 2) they should probably resolve that too if they ever remade the game (HD2D style or not...style would be cool though and look great...not sure if SE has a patent or anything like it on HD2D though so who knows if any 3rd party can do it). As for my own picks it'd probably be the 2D pixel based Tales games like Phantasia (probably Nakiri Dungone X due to more content/best battle system of the Phantasia games if they don't update that as well to be more like modern 'classic' style combat system (Symphonia/Abyss/Vesperia/Xillia/Hearts R combat system), Destiny DC, Destiny 2, Eternia, Rebirth, and maybe even Legendia (convert the game from 3D spites to 2D pixels/background instead as well...would love to see a rework of the game to allow multiplayer and give all characters mystic artes too and maybe even a battle field that allows free run) or Hearts DS (was Innocence DS 2D pixel or 3D sprite?...kinda forget since I never played the game as no western release)...throw in all of the early games being given all the skits the English versions cut out and adding more as well to help flesh out characters more...throw in new sidequests too would be nice so it's not 100% the same experience.
So many titles come to my old ass mind when their topic is discussed. I’ve seen Lufia mentioned in the above comments and I agree. I’d love to see the Breath of Fire series, Shining Force, but my number 1 pick would be Arc the Lad 1 and 2.
I believe Square owns the concept and name HD2D but for examples Eiyuden Chronicles from earlier this year did an HD2D esque art style. So it's viable for other companies as long as they don't specifically say it's HD2D
I would love if the Gagharv trilogy got remade but I would prefer if the first two Legend of Heroes games were done first (The Gagharv trilogy were three through five while Trails started with six) I played a childhood friend's TG-16 copy of the first game but the second was never released in the US. Others I would love to see are the Ogre Battle games (Especially annoying because Square remakes Tactics Ogre every couple of decades but ignores the series that gave birth to Tactics Ogre for some reason.) Robotrek, Great Greed, Bahumt Lagoon and all the pre-reboot Lufia games.
Those are all good choices for HD-2D Remakes, but you know what games i never see people mention when there is talk for what games should have a remake in this style?, the gaia series. Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma need a remake or at least a compilation similar to the mana collection released some years back. Other serie that in my opinion is very ignored by the jrpg fanbase is the Phantasy Star series, the 4 original games are very good rpgs Phantasy Star II being the best in my opinion, the setting, story and characters are one of the best in the entire saga, Phantasy Star III Generations of Doom also had a very interesting ideas that in this day and age might get more love and recognition.
I can't wait for these games to be remade, have characters genders removed, scripts edited and censored, designs changed, and pushing political messages, all so it can cater to the modern audience.
Dragon Quarter is my favorite Breath Of Fire game. The previous games are phenomenal, but they didn't capture me the same way it did. Can someone please enlighten me as to why it's so hated?
Capcom is my second favorite developer right behind square enix. Capcom shouldn't be though since they refuse to give me more MegaMan and Breath of Fire.
Two other games i would like, lufia 2, and lesser know, but awesome final fantasy dimensions. Its on phone atm, but complete game no micro transactions. It would be fresh and good.
I think what it will be nice to see and play as an hd2d game is ff10 the ps2 graphics did not age well compared to other ff games. Persona 2 is also well be great as an hd2d game. Tales of phantasia would look amazing too A new dragon quest heroes game but in hd2d
Couple games missing from this list. Breath of fire two and three are the best in the series. Four lacked a needed world map vs. the point a to b system but I would be on board for it if capcom fixed that flaw but lets be serious they only care about street fighter and resident evil
About CT. Thios is my mosf beloved game. And fan art version is crap. I WONT play it. Proper people can make it better but I still don't believe HD-2D make a good job for game. Lunar fan art was good though
The Golden Sun games deserve it too.
came here just to say that too
That would be incredible! I would love it if they connected it so you can play GS2 without a code from GS.
Phantsy Star 4 was the first game I can remember doing requests for cash from a hunters guild. I also believe this series deserves a HD 2-D remake
EarthBound. Just imagine all that glorious weirdness in HD!
Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis would be at the top of my list for a remake.

Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinsitrals needs an HD2D version. ❤
May as well remake the first game (with lots of QoL improvement) while you're at it...

100% agree. Esp if they add lufia 1 to continue the story

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster comes out March 6, 2025.
I already played Final Fantasy 6 on the SNES, Playstation, GBA, Android, Steam, and Pixel. Now to do 3D, like with FF7!

Pokémon black and white. They were the last mainline games to be sprite based. Being 2D HD would be a great send off to these games!
dq3 and star ocean has set a standard now for HD2D
Wild Arms.
They should remake Secret of Mana - edit I guess they already did 6 years ago - but it doesn't look that great. Dragon quest 3 is really nice.
Love the list. Would asd lufia and lufia 2 from snes. And add a true sequel to mario rpg

Final Fantasy IV
Even though it has a bunch of versions....yes
Agreed
the title should be Top 10 JRPGs that DESRVE HD 2D Remakes
Agreed
I disagree with Xenogears. I would prefer more hand drawn style. Something that needs more development other than a HD2D game
Skies of Arcadia
Phantasy Star 4

We don't want a half-assed hd-2d Chrono Trigger remaster. We want a full AAA remake. And we want it now!
So you want them to stretch the game out over 3 parts and two console life spans into a muddy unfocused product instead of the tight focused adventure it was?
Yeah hell no. Definitely not the FF7 treatment. HD2D is the only acceptable treatment for Chrono Trigger
I really wonder if ARPGs would work in HD2D. I'd absolutely love to see the Soul Blazer "trilogy", especially Terranigma, in that style.
I don’t know if it would work for the HD-2D but I would love to see the shadow heart series remastered.
Great list, sir
Treasure of the Rudras

Sailor Moon Another Story should deserve a HD-2D Remake.
Shining Force 3!!!!!!
i want Secret of Mana + online coop
In my opinion there are two games that would absolutely rock the 2D-HD style and that is Terrangima and Treasure of Rudra.

Entirely childhood nostalgia picks
Digimon Dawn/Dusk, Pokemon Black/White, Fire Emblem 7-8, Magical Starsign, SMT Devil Survivor.

One problem with this list, Only SquareEnix has the HD-2D engine your talking about
You got studios who make such games like Wandering Sword. Bigger problem is they will censor those games even more than they did when they came out.
You played suikoden and not 2 oh boy you are in for a treat
Lunar still look perfect for what it is. No need for 2dhd
How about RPGs good enough to not be remade? So good that they should be preserved as they were intended and stand the test of time?
Those are all good choices for HD-2D Remakes, but you know what games i never see people mention when there is talk for what games should have a remake in this style?, the gaia series. Chrono Trigger doesn’t need a remake or a remaster. It’s perfect as it is.
I can't wait for these games to be remade, have characters genders removed, scripts edited and censored, designs changed, and pushing political messages, all so it can cater to the modern audience.
Dragon Quest IX deserves the HD-2D or a remake in general more. Why? It's the only Dragon Quest game that hasn't gotten a remake
I need pokemon Black and White in HD-2D
Dragon Quarter is my favorite Breath Of Fire game. The previous games are phenomenal, but they didn't capture me the same way it did. Can someone please enlighten me as to why it's so hated?
Capcom is my second favorite developer right behind square enix. Capcom shouldn't be though since they refuse to give me more MegaMan and Breath of Fire.
Ff vi needs the ff vii remake treatment.
Rhapsody or Marl Kingdom Series
They will censor those games as well if they did sadly.
Two other games i would like, lufia 2, and lesser know, but awesome final fantasy dimensions. Its on phone atm, but complete game no micro transactions. It would be fresh and good.
can someone convince me why I should play dragon quest games because I'm not a fan of the first person view?,during the battle scenes
I think what it will be nice to see and play as an hd2d game is ff10 the ps2 graphics did not age well compared to other ff games.
Persona 2 is also well be great as an hd2d game.
Tales of phantasia would look amazing too
A new dragon quest heroes game but in hd2d
You could have made your bed before filming that
FF6 needs the full modern tech remake otherwise don't do it
Bring us Robotrek remaster and Paladins Quest psicadellic edition 😅😅
Give me a new golden sun game
Gagharv!
Couple games missing from this list. Breath of fire two and three are the best in the series. Four lacked a needed world map vs. the point a to b system but I would be on board for it if capcom fixed that flaw but lets be serious they only care about street fighter and resident evil
Terranigma and Lufia 2
The Quintet games
About CT. Thios is my mosf beloved game. And fan art version is crap. I WONT play it. Proper people can make it better but I still don't believe HD-2D make a good job for game. Lunar fan art was good though
I love HD-2D.....but I'd much rather see some of these titles get full on 3D remakes. I know I'm in the minority regarding this lol
legend of heroes 1 and 2 for pc engine and bahamut lagoon
