I like to think the madarame boss fight 2nd phase is an extended baton pass tutorial. You use his clones to increase your baton pass bonuses so you can absolutely go ham on the boss itself. Which it does perfectly since a good chunk of that palace was about showing you how to baton pass effectively
@@Yarharsuperpirate I 100% agree, and after doing Okumara I realized that. My only problem was even on hard difficulty (granted this is from memory) I didn’t really NEED to use it and I don’t remember the fight giving me a ton of trouble. It may even have been a first try boss. It didn’t quite work for me due to that, but that could be a skill issue on my part honestly
When I got to that boss, the clones ended up all being the same type which - if I remember correctly - 2 of my teammates weren't weak to. So I simply left the other 2 to die and destroyed the boss with the 2 that resisted the clones attacks.
@ that makes sense honestly. The RNG on that fight will either make it a nightmare or probably pretty easy now that you mention it. I could of gotten a bit lucky on my win.
I definitely think that Okumura's palace was by far the weakest. On top of the story weaknesses with Mona throwing a tantrum and Haru being basically sidelined, the theming felt really off. Throughout the game there is a consistent theming of thievery. This is reflected not just in the characters/personas but also in each palace. A castle, museum, bank, tomb, casino and cruise ship are all quite tropy places the perform some kind of heist or robbery. A space station just feels really out of place for me, not to mention the whole space model kit link felt really tenuous to me, like they just thought of the workers = robots thing and worked backwards from there.
Yeah I hear you there. I think if they dropped the spaceport and just really dialed in on "Factory in which robots/employees are being run into the ground" and kept with it, that would of been my preference. The spaceport theme felt a bit slapped on, I'd agree on working backwards. A generic factory theme wouldn't be the best for thievery I'd say but it sounds more cohesive in my mind I think.
I think the Futaba palace is Morgana's worst character moment rather than the Okumura arc i have reasons why i think this and it ultimately leads up to the arc
@@jacobfoster1382 Morgana is on Ryuji's case from the start of the game, they were constantly trading jabs. Mona was a total hypocrite in that arc. The only thing Ryuji really did was fumble the apology in an out of character moment written purely to justify Morgana's anger.
I thought that's the point. The Thieves don't really want to take on Okumura initially and it shows since the palace feels so wrong compared to the normal theming of the other palaces.

I am wondering what your rankings would be purely on the music, because personally the music really exemplifies the gameplay, with nearly all songs reflecting the game so well (I believe replacing Life will change, for example). (Side note I agree Kaneshiro’s palace was weaker storywise, I feel like he had no relation to shido/ effected the overall story too much, but Price is such a damn good track)
Hmmm It's really hard on that. Like you mentioned Price is amazing, and so is Maruki's theme. All of them I think are on similar levels for the most part. I think the only weaker ones for me were Okumara and Madarame. I actually liked the Olumura fight, firstly because I'd already put enough time into Hifumi's Confidant that I could just swap, and secondly because my Mainline instincts told me to stockpile attack items. I actually got to engage with the mechanics of the battle system and have some fun with Baton Pass for once, which was honestly refreshing after how painfully easy all the other fights were. While the 2nd and 3rd palaces didn't hit as hard, I think they were important in setting expectations that would then be broken by Futaba and Sae's palaces. They took the "corrupted motives/heart/treasure" motifs and completely subvert the players' expectations at a point where we thought we knew exactly what to expect.
