    X-Com: (UFO Defense/Enemy Unknown) with finalxcom mod.
    Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines (trying different mods as well)
    Heroes of Might and Magic 2 and it’s expansion can’t recall the name. (Never really finished it’s extremely hard campaign back in the day)
    Booted up Homm3 as well but I do that every year.

    Picking a favorite between Heroes of Might & Magic 2 and 3 is a task only the strongest of us can do. I think I have to agree with your pick though, Janosik, even if it hurts in my skeleton.

    • @OldAndNewVideoGames
      @OldAndNewVideoGames  7 дней назад +3

      I went out to have drinks with friends lady night and we actually talked about Heroes. All of us agreed that 3 was objectively the best of them all, but also each of us liked a different one the most. I 2, and those two friends 3 and 4 respectively. And also, all of us agreed that despite its many faults the 4th game was the most interesting mechanically. I mean, you gotta imagine this conversation in raised voices with drinks in hand, but other than that, that’s precisely how it went. ;)

      My friend Craig, who was a Diablo fanatic, loved Nox. He played it a hell of a lot. I was exclusively playing Quake back then so I never tried Nox.
      Tried it last year, for the first time, and got a good way into the game. Definitely has class, and as you say better than most Diablo clones for sure. But I got bored after a few nights and gave up.

      It's a criminally overlooked game. I think the reason may be because it plays out too much like a movie, and too little like a game. You can tell where each scene is, and how the devs wanted it to play out. And while I find it fun and like a lot of work went into it, perhaps not everyone's enjoying this kind of a storytelling in games. I mean, even in the opening scene, during the press conference, it plays out like a star to a good movie.

The one time I did this I added a portion of the money I had left over when I beat the previous game to my starting funds for the next game (The longer passed between the games the less money carried over) plus changed my character's skills to match those he had at the end of the previous game for games that allowed creating a custom merc. I still think the best Civilization game ever made was Civilization 2 Advanced, for Windows 95. Even though I've spent countless hours playing Civ 5 + 6.
    Alpha Centauri is up there with Civ 2. It's one of the best strategy games in history. I got the game without a manual back in the day and it took me forever replays to figure it out, but then I couldn't stop playing.
    Broforce is a great game. Played it relentlessly (along with Rayman Legends) with my (then) 7 year old daughter to ensure she stayed away from Roblox and other mindless garbage. We had so many laughs and it gave me an opportunity to explain to her who every single one of the Bro's were, and led into us watching some of those 80's movies.

    You can bet that I will play Pinball Fantasies next year, and every year for many to come. :) I see you've got the score display on the top. Personally, I prefer it on the bottom, but I'm curious how you got it up there. Also, nice score! ;)

    Speaking of Diablo - recently replayed Hellgate:London, wanted to finish that evoker playthrough, I find the gameplay loop very relaxing.
    Half Life you say? I agree, its time for a replay, especially with the recent update and added commentary mode, I'd like some fresh perspective on it.
    Oh hey XCOM:EW, like that one way more than the newest installments, cartoonish style worked way better with it.

    • @OldAndNewVideoGames
      @OldAndNewVideoGames  7 дней назад +1

      "coz I feel like it" is one of the best/strongest arguments when it comes to gaming, cause we should always play what we want to, and not what others say is worth it. So excellent argument, once again, and no, it's not sarcasm. :)
      You know what would be great? If all those re-releases of HL ended up with us silently getting HF3, with no ads for it whatsoever. I mean, if Valve would drop it on Steam on the down low and just observe how people would react. At first, one person would find it my mistake, looking for something entirely different. So that person then would naturally post abour it on Twitter with a caption going more or less like that "Ha ha! Yeah right! Nearly got me #Valve", and that post would hang there for a week or so, with maybe one or two likes. Until someone would click the link eventually, and then it would explode, and in less than 120 seconds the entire World would know about it, and 357 videos on YT would pop up all dated two weeks earlier with all the story spoilers and playthrough videos. xD

    I think The Dig caught a lot of people off guard in it’s day because it wasn’t the jokey Lucas Arts adventure people expected but was a great story that unfolds slowly but does keep you invested.
    OMG! Metal Gear Solid was such a great game! There was such a sense of achievement when you managed to plant a bomb on that guard’s back but I played it on the Play Station with my ex, where it was something special for a console game & there’s… something you have to do… (no spoilers) when fighting Psycho Mantis & I have no idea how it’s handled in the PC version?
    That chillies & curries metaphor… 😂🤣
    Broforce rocks! As you suggested it’s all about the feel & doesn’t get bogged down in anything, it’s just a blast to play.
    I both love & hate Ocarina of Time. Whilst it had such an immersive world & smooth, well thought through game play I do find time mechanics generally in games annoying sometimes. Still the game is a masterpiece.
    Deus Ex is magnificent! One of those games that keeps you invested all the way through & inexplicably gets that pass phrase “Iron & copper” stuck in your head. 😄
    Oblivion was fantastic. As a hand held console lover I’m so disappointed the PSP beta was never completed.
    Parappa the Rapper was the most fun rhythm game I’ve played & stayed with me longer than any other.
    Fallout: New Vegas was spectacular & still plays well now & I know that because I have it installed right now, along with Pinball Fantasies, I’m sure that’s a surprise? 😄
    If you haven’t played Half-Life go & play it now. No-no, right now! Stop reading this comment & play it now, now!
    I have so much love for the Fable games but 2 was the sweet spot. 1 & 3 are fantastic… except for 3’s property management system, that get’s bogged down but it’s still a great game. Zoë Wanamaker as Theresa set a whole new standard in narration within games, especially in Fable II. I’m really happy to see Fable II & III back again now but I’m gutted to find Fable II is buggy & keeps freezing on the Xbox One, at time of writing. I am bitterly disappointed.
    Fate of Atlantis was so good, it really did feel like playing a movie’s story & is not to be missed, unlike the last 3 movies.
    Life *is* strange because I just can’t get on with Life is Strange, strange?
    GTA: Vice City was magnificent. Vice City felt huge in the day, even though it isn’t actually that big but it feels so alive for a setting of it’s day.
    Screamer 2 is on my Voodoo3 PC/repurposed thin client because it is such fun to play. Looked great for it’s day too.
    What a list! Even the games that aren’t for me here are true classics loved by many, many people & don’t need my vote to recommend them. Absolute banger of a list, thanks!

    • @OldAndNewVideoGames
      @OldAndNewVideoGames  7 дней назад +1

      Yeah, I think that The Dig was too much like a movie (and not a comedy, despite having some jokes too), and too little like a bizarre LucasArts game, and people ignored it.
      Every system that I have has Broforce on it. Do I play on all of them, or even Broforce daily/weekly/monthly? No... But when I want to jump in, I want it to be there and waiting regardless which system I'm the closest to. ;)
      Ocarina of Time same as Mario 64 while hella innovative was also a victim of its time. It was one of the first full 3D role playing adventure (platformer - yes, I said that!) games, and while it can be considered an achievement, it also meant that all the early tech issues where there. Like the camera work, clunky controls, quest tracking, and the likes...
      I've seen the town of Goodsprings soooooo many times, I could probably find my way around it blindfolded. Might've not replayed the entire game dozens of times (even if I should), but I easily have been in Goodsprings on many of my never completed playthroughs on said dozens of occasions.
      What are your feelings about the upcoming Fable? I'm really fired up, but I'm trying to keep my expectations low not spoil the game for myself by setting the bar too high. xD
      Life is hella strange! In general. I went out to see friends last night, and there was three of us then and there, and one of my buddies kept complaining about how little money he has, and how he needs a raise to us for quite a while, despite earning considerably more, than the other two of us combined. xD

      @nicholsliwilson 7 дней назад

      @ really looking forward to the forthcoming Fable but I know what you mean, it has a lot to live up to & we do have to manage our expectations.

Just click away, and it all works out. As long as you remember to heal and acquire higher and higher numbers, but I could handle that kind of math.

    Some good choices, but I have to disagree on one: The Dig. How does anyone replay it when no one played it the first time around! (Even though it came free with your CD Drive)
    But seriously, I think The Dig is the one of the biggest overhyped blockbusters of the Multimedia era. The game is all there on a technical level, but it lacks the warmth. Of the classic LucasArts adventure games, I think it is at the bottom.
    (Also, I would like to be part of the A-Team. I can shoot near people).

    • @OldAndNewVideoGames

      Oh man... It's funny but also bit sad. The Dig's not the best adventure game that came from Lucasarts, but it's exceptional nonetheless, and feeling more like a long-ass movie than a game... And it failed sooooo badly.
      I get what you mean, and I think that the warmth you mentioned actually plays out to what I said. As in it being a movie. It was made like one, and not like most of their games, that were always quirky, filled with jokes, popculture references and absurdity.
