      Now this might be media bias and the fact that BART serves orders of magnitude more riders. But still... Both Caltrain and CC are heavily staffed. BART trains are literally devoid of any BART employees. Anything could happen to you on BART with no one even knowing until your body is found. They really need to add more cops and fare inspectors. • @TohaBgood2
      @TohaBgood2 Год назад +3

      The NY Subway is a subway. BART is a regional metro, an S-Bahn. S-bahn type systems are always priced by the mile. That's completely normal. In fact, BART is pretty affordable compared to the German S-Bahns and the French RERs.
      Again, this is purely a distance thing. If you're going 10 stations on the NY Subway you're going about the distance of a single BART stop. If we want to make BART fares as little as a subway then we'll have to also want to pay more in taxes to subsidize that. Do you want to pay for this? (I do BTW, but no one seems to agree with this around here. Everyone just wants to whine.)

    - Transition staff to part-time or layoffs (both rank & file and management)
    - Reduce number of cars per run to reduce electrical costs and equipment wear
    - Reduce some runs altogether
    - Dig deep to squeeze out more efficiency from existing resources
    The system needs to be properly sized for the demand. Cannot artificially support such huge system when ridership is 40% of what it was and not rising. If and when ridership does return, then start reversing the above and enjoy the benefits of increased system efficiency from digging in deep previously.
