    Born and raised here in SF so here is my local tip. Use one of the many bike shares that this city has to offer. You can start at the Ferry Building with some lunch. Afterwards, you have a 5 minute bike ride to Pier 39. From Pier 39, you can walk around the rest of Fisherman's wharf then walk to Ghiradelli Square. From Pier 39 to Ghiradelli is about 5 blocks so its a very short walk. From Ghiradelli, grab a bike again and ride down to and along the Marina all the way to the Palace of Fine Arts, which is probably about a 15 minute bike ride. Take a walk around there then get back on the bikes and take another 10 minute ride along Crissy Fields and end up at Fort Pointe to take in the views of the Golden Gate Bridge from below. With a snack in between and just wandering those parts of the city, this could take up an entire day. Take a short ride back to Chestnut Street to grab some dinner at the many restaurants and drinks at the many bars and its a day.
    On another day, Golden Gate Park and the Painted Ladies (Alamo Square) are very close to each other as well. Its not quite walking distance (12 long blocks) but a bike would come in handy here as well. If you go to Golden Gate Park on the weekends, the main parts are closed off to cars so it makes biking much easier. Hit the Conservatory of Flowers then the Academy of Sciences. If its getting close to dinner time, take the short walk over to 9th and Irving Street. Park Chow is my favorite in that area and Pacific Catch is on the same block.

    • @cajayson8301
      @cajayson8301 3 года назад +7

      @@Kaneda0015 that describes any major city across the States.
      There's far more to a location (shopping, dining, being near historical & eclectic tourist spots, friendly community for example) than homelessness, not to mention studies show the homeless are far more likely to be victims of crime than actually break the law.
      Also, just an FYI: non-homeless people, like myself (and probably you), curse all the time. Get over it ;)

    SERIOUS CABLE CAR TIP (from a life long local)
    Step 1: Get your ticket from the vending machine.
    Step 2: FORGET THE LINE AT THE TURNABOUT. The cable car operators do NOT fill up the car all the way at the turnaround. If they did, the system would be useless as public transportation for anyone who lives here. SO, take advantage of that and walk a few (4 or 5) blocks up the street and just catch the cable car on a corner. You'll be on the outside part (the best part) and no waiting in line.

    Something I used to do while living in SF is go up this street next to a cheap hotel called Golden Eagle Motel (I believe) and you'll come across a set of stairs that lead to these apartment complexes. In front of the stairs there's some benches. I used to always sit there during the night. Especially around Christmas. And you'll get a great view of the Golden Gate bridge (and its lights if you go on Christmas). Not a lot of people go there. It was my get away from all the chaotic, noisy parts of SF. It's pretty quiet there besides the cars that sometimes pass by. You can even buy some pizza nearby or whatever you wanna eat.

    Did a great many of these things on my vacation to SF in 2019. Yes, some rough areas, but the bright spots are bright. Many wonderful experiences and iconic images that I will keep in my memories. The best vacation I ever had in my life. I was planning to sketch out a part 2 for East Bay, maybe even Napa Valley, but.....you know....

    Thank you for your great videos. I lived in SoCal on and off for 13 years (NY Native here) and I'm taking my husband to Northern CA this fall. I love the east coast but this winter has convinced me that maybe I should consider going back to California. But I've never been up north so we have flights booked to visit San Francisco, Sacramento and the Wine region this September. I'm looking forward to our trip and your videos are very helpful.

    Funny Story-
    We travel a lot. After I choose a place, I start looking for sights. I go to the city
    or county website & look for the community calendar. We had been to SF
    many times and never needed to look for things to do, but one time I thought
    I would. Imagine when I found SF events calendar was 42 pages! For the
    QUARTER!

    I have been visiting the Haight-Ashbury district, Market Street, Golden Gate Park, Richmond District and the Financial District quite frequently these past few months, and haven't seen ONE needle or human waste on the floor. Some people (many who haven't even been to SF or visited the past few years) are GREATLY over exaggerating about the issue like 90% of the time you're gonna see a needle or human waste randomly lying around somewhere. Every time I visit SF, it's a pleasant experience for the most part. I hope the homelessness/drug crisis gets worked out soon though, as SF it too beautiful of a city to have that reputation as a whole. With that being said, MOST of SF is not what some people (news media) is painting it out to be, and this is all from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. I've visited quite a few big cities in my lifetime, and San Francisco is still one of my favorites.

      Nikki Best all over??? My god lmao. If that’s the case, don’t you think everyone who works or lives in SF would’ve left by now?! Lol. I literally was just in SF two days ago in the Portola neighborhood and Russian Hill two weekends ago, and it was spotless (again, REAL LIFE experience). And where’s “further” exactly?? Which neighborhood/district are you talking about?? Name them. That’s exactly what I’m saying..people either over exaggerating the issue or simply making fictional things up lol

      Thank you! I find the majority of SF to be very safe and clean and I go there all the time. Sure, downtown/the tenderloin/a few other areas can get sketchy at points, but everywhere else ESPECIALLY the neighborhoods around Golden Gate Park are absolutely amazing. I've seen poop once and only once. Don't think I've ever seen a needle 🤷. The city definitely has plenty of issues and is far from perfect, but everyone hating on it is a bit misguided I think.

    San Francisco is one of the most beautiful cities in the USA. And, as usual, you need time for visiting all of the nice places there are in this city.
    We've been there in july and it's really cold, particulary the Golden Gate area, with cold air all day long.
    But, in general is one of the cities you have to visit at least once in your life.

    At first I was ready to condemn this video for only showcasing extremely touristy spots, but as it went on, I began to appreciate the selections more- Musee Mechanique, Maritime Museum, Presidio, Land's End, Golden Gate Park (the Acadmeny of Science)... Muir Woods. Though all these spots attract tourists, they were showcased well. What I really appreciate about this video was that it wasn't just a bunch of stock footage, it appeared to actually be original content... all that considered: well done! (Thank you for not putting Pier 39 on the list.)

One little note: San Francisco is known for unpredictable weather. I've been there on an August afternoon and it was 60 degrees. However, if you go in September and October, you are almost assured of warm, sunny days.

    • @tstieber
      @tstieber 6 лет назад +9

      Chilly summers are typical though. Maybe unexpected for outsiders but not unpredictable. In fact, SF statistically has the least weather variation in the country, which gives it the most predictable weather possible. :)

    • @exnihilo415
      @exnihilo415 6 лет назад +2

      Honolulu has the least total variation. All of the California coast is pretty similar in variation. Compared to the wild highs and lows of the rest of the US though, it’s quite nice. I did my time in the Midwest. No more for me!
