After Johnny made it big he sent for Edgar & gave him the spotlight so people would experience his younger brother & give him a break. Edgar said he would have been a scientist or teacher if not for Johnny. They kept their own bands & came together sometimes. No sibling rivalry here. Johnny was brilliant on Tobacco Road but never tried to outshine Edgar. Both Winter brothers were amazing. Edgar is still going strong & tours with Ringo Starr. RIP, Johnny, one of the greatest blues guitarists of all time.

Edgar is like Hendrix in that you can tell he is not going through a conscious rendering of a song: he has the idea fully formed musically in him, and then he just becomes the conduit through which this unearthly, wonderful sound comes into the world.

When God was handing out talent in Beaumont Texas the Winter Brothers were at the front of the line. In fact i think they took it all. Great reaction! Thanks so much. Edgar Winter was a force of nature. If you have not heard it check out the Roadwork 1972 live album. It is one of the all time great live recordings. Rick Derringer is the guitarist but Johnny makes an appearance on R&R Hoochie Coo. Also The White Trash album from 1971 is essential listening. It combines a variety of styles (funk, gospel, blues and rock) that really highlights Edgar's diversity and range. It is a five star rated album and is desert island disc for me. He is joined on vocals by Jerry LaCroix and the two of them along with an extremely tight band tear it up. Of particular interest to you as a blues aficionado would be the "I Got News For You " track. "Let's Get It On" is a blues rocker and "Dying To Live" a ballad is one of my favorites. Thanks again for your reaction. keep it up!

This song was a true depiction of life, written about Tobacco Road, in Durham, North Carolina. "Tobacco Road" is a blues song written and first recorded by John D. Loudermilk, in December 1959 and released in 1960. This song became a hit for The Nashville Teens in 1964 and has since become a standard across several musical genres. The Winter Brothers and band, brought authenticity, dynamic emotion, feeling and Real Soul to this well written song. This performance is historic, meaningful and will never be equaled. This is "Musical Magic" of the finest caliber.
