In 1962, at the age of 17, Johnny and younger brother Edgar Winter were at a BB King show in Beaumont and talked King into allowing Johnny to get on stage and play. It was his first experience playing blues to a black audience. Johnny Winter became the first non-African American artist to be inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1988. In 1989, American singer and songwriter Tina Turner recorded a cover version of "The Best" for her seventh solo studio album, Foreign Affair (1989), with a saxophone solo played by Edgar Winter. he is in her video.
Great reaction. Edgar and his brother Johnny are albino. When they were young, they couldn't play outside much because of that condition. They stayed inside and learned everything they could about music. Johnny was a great blues style artist. You should react to Johnny and Edgar doing Tobacco Road. I saw the Edgar Winter Group in concert in 1975. They didn't disappoint. How did you know that he was going to jump on the drums? 😃
I about lost it when you said, "What's next, is he going to get on the drums" and that's exactly what he does next! I can't wait to see your face when that happens! That's Edgar Winter playing all those instruments and he plays even more than you saw him play in this video! It was priceless when he came back playing the drums! Thank you for your fabulous reaction! I can't wait for your next reaction, when he starts messing with the sound! I don't know what that's called but I love it!
I grew up listening to the shorter version released on vinyl for radio play. This one's great, thinking of that one, because it's like each phrase gets repeated, exploring it further. They just wring every last drop out of this one! Great performance by them, and great reaction from you!
I got it in 8 track quadraphonic in my high school car and the drums would in circle us and go all the way around in side my car it was the best way to listen to it back then.
Brothers Johnny and Edgar Winter, both albinos, would show up at Road Houses and Blues Clubs when they were young teens and stay all night for a chance to play on stage. These were usually "Black" nightclubs and the were the two Whitest White Boys you would ever see. They would play and blow people's minds! The Frightened many in these Clubs who thought they might be Demons they played so well!
Some have already mentioned this but watch the live version of “Tobacco Road” with Edgar and Johnny Winter. Johnny is one of the most acclaimed blues guitarists ever, and watching them together is a treat.
Your face is priceless. I'm 67, I saw them in concert in 1973. I was 17. Stammer away because that's how everyone feels when they hear that song. It's bitchin
Omg the music you are listening to lately is some of the best rock and roll of all times. You're giving me so many great memories of my youth. It is so cool seeing a young peraon appreciating and being honestly moved by these greats songs. Love you!
I just discovered your channel first time watching and love your reactions. Hope to be seeing more soon! The great Rick Derringer on guitar. A fantastic musician in his own right.
Went to see Johnny Winter in 76 or 77. Edgar was going through SF airport and decided to join his brother in Oakland Coliseum! Johnny came out with guitar and Edgar with his keyboard around his neck and they jammed until Edgar had to catch his flight! Then Johnny's band played, it was great!
Edgar and Johnny Winters were both albino and they couldn't go outside and had restricted lives growing up and do, they learned how to play instruments and became some of the best musicians ever!!!
Wow that video, just wow, the combination of the music seeing the performance, and this guy reacting almost made me feel like I was getting an acid flashback but in a good way LOL. thanks, JBLETHAL TV that really made my day ❤
I was lucky enough to see Edgar in 1981. He played in a theater in Winston-Salem, NC that had been converted into a club that sold beer, the sloping floor had been terraced off and and had tables scattered in the back, but we were down near the front. We stood there, IDK how many people, but as many as the small place could hold. Since the Winter brothers are albino, Edgar's pale flesh and hair took on the hue of whatever color the lights happened to be at any given moment. Finally he howled; "TIME FOR ME TO UNLEASH MY MONSTER!!!" and destroyed us with "Frankenstein" for what seemed an eternity. I was tripping my balls off on three hits of Red Dragon blotter acid, so I had no perception of time. Saw Loen Russell at the same place a few weeks later, but that's another story
How about Sly and the Family Stone.. 69 and 70 they were big.. I want to take you higher, Stand, Thank You Fallentenme Be Myself, Everybody is a Star, Dance to the Music, Hot fun in the Summertime
One of the things I love about watching reactions is seeing moments like this. In one song, You just found out that music can get ten times more awesome than you ever thought it could. It's like finding out about bacon.
Great reaction to a great masterpiece. It was funny when you said "what's next is he going to play the drums?". Yup. 😁 Edgar Winter in my opinion is "Other worldly ". 🤞😊
There's a documentary that's on youtube about the ARP 2600 that Edgar is playing (that he happens to be in); it's a good watch on its own, but he goes into how he made the sounds for this track in particular, because it was such an early hit single to feature that synth.
My favorite song of all time. "They Only Come Out At Night" was the first album I ever bought, and it was for this song specifically. I was 10 years old and had to save up my allowances for a couple of months 'til I had enough money, but I _HAD_ to have the original version on the album and not some chopped up radio edir. I'm 59 years old now and still have that album....and I _STILL_ love this song. Another cool (and funky) instrumental you should react to is "Outta Space" by Billy Preston. Also, "Hocus Pocus" by Focus. Neither has lyrics, although "Hocus Pocus" does have vocals, just not like you'd think. Check them both. You _WON'T_ be disappointed.
This is fantastic! What a thing! But if you're enjoying Frankenstein Live for its amazing and innovative musicianship, you should also enjoy Hocus Pocus Live by Focus, also from 1973. How ironic that perhaps the wildest and craziest pieces were done the same year! You will be amazed by this song, too! Hang on to your seat!
Saw him and Jonny in 1973 in Winterland Arena in San Francisco. I was sitting on the floor when this song came on and everyone was stomping and jumping and rushed the stage. I almost got trampled. Great memories, thank you.
I loved your reaction to this video, it was awesome seeing you feel so good! The same way I feel when i listen to them. Thank you for reacting to their performance!
The programme this was on is 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' and has SO many classic performances...from The Sensational Alex Harvey Band doing 'Next' to Joy Division, The Damned, Fleetwood Mac, Floyd, Sadistic Mika Band, Bowie, Meat Loaf, Siouxsie Sand the Banshees, U2, Elton John, Randy Newman, Marley and Hendrix among HUNDREDS of others....you name it, they were on this awesome show.
They had so many amazing performance on that show. You could do an entire reaction channel devoted to just The Grey Whistle! and maybe the Midnight Special too!!
This clip comes from the old BBC series 'The old grey whistle test', probably the greatest music TV show.........ever!!!! Everyone who's anyone has appeared on it, from The Rolling Stones, to The Stone Roses!!! I guarantee you won't find any better on YT, than TOGWT!! FFS!! Even the host became an icon!!! 😲
They got more. I Rushed out and got the album this song was on "They Only Come Out At Night". - (Free Ride) - is my next favorite. - 1973 is the same year that Emerson Lake and Palmer came out with their Brain Salad Surgery Album. Karn Evil 9 takes up most of the album at 29 minutes in 3 Impressions. Toccata has extensive use of synthesizers and the 1st ever electric drum solo.
He sings like he plays his instruments Hes a beast . Watch him sing with his brother playing guitar on Tobacco Road live Oh he tears up the organ too
The Guy on the Guitar is Rick Derringer, He had big hit in the 70's with "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo"
I'm not sure but I think the guy on the drums is Rick's brother
@@dola921 Chuck Ruff is on drums, no relation to Rick though both are awesome in their own right!
He did Hang on Sloopy with the McCoys
I saw Rick open for Frampton. Some amazing guitar playing that night

I remember, I was in school with them and played bass. They were outstanding… we are so much better because of then.
Thanks for the info!! 😎
Great post... Didn't know that, thank you
RIP Chuck Ruff. One of the greatest drummer of all time.
Musical geniuses, way ahead of their time! 💥💥💥💥
Great reaction. Edgar and his brother Johnny are albino. When they were young, they couldn't play outside much because of that condition. I saw the Edgar Winter Group in concert in 1975. They didn't disappoint. How did you know that he was going to jump on the drums? 😃
Edgar plays so many different instruments, amazing 🤩
Oh man check out (Rick Derringer) “Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo” 😂
I about lost it when you said, "What's next, is he going to get on the drums" and that's exactly what he does next! I can't wait to see your face when that happens! I'm with you. Easily the coolest music video I've ever seen. So much talent on that one stage.
All of these guys were phenomenal!
I got it in 8 track quadraphonic in my high school car and the drums would in circle us and go all the way around in side my car it was the best way to listen to it back then.
These were musicians, masters of their craft, innovators. They played for the love of music, and they did it well.
*Pauses video 1/3 way in…”I’ve never seen a live performance like this! What’s next, he gonna jump on the drums?!” LOL
!!!!!Why yes, yes he is!!!!!!!!
In the 70s we would all sit in bean bag chairs with blacklights on glowing posters and listen to Edgar Winters! ❤✌
Some have already mentioned this but watch the live version of “Tobacco Road” with Edgar and Johnny Winter. Johnny is one of the most acclaimed blues guitarists ever, and watching them together is a treat.
Agreed!
Such a great song, glad you finally did it. So many great songs by the Winters brothers
Check out Edgar and Johnny Winters live version of Tobacco Road, that one will blow your mind also guaranteed!
Anyone who is not blown away by this has no concept of what "sound" is. (Not to mention unbelievable talent!)

You should try his brother's song, Tabaco Road by Johnny Winters. You definitely will be blown away again.
Your face is priceless. I'm 67, I saw them in concert in 1973. I was 17. Stammer away because that's how everyone feels when they hear that song. It's bitchin
Saw Johnny Winter, BB King in Denver 1973 I think. Best show ever.
Love your reaction !! 💕💞💓💖
Thank you, sir. Much appreciated :)🤩🥰✨
Omg the music you are listening to lately is some of the best rock and roll of all times. You're giving me so many great memories of my youth. It is so cool seeing a young peraon appreciating and being honestly moved by these greats songs. Love you!

Edgar Winter and his Bro Johnny made history The people they played with Unbelievable
I just discovered your channel first time watching and love your reactions. Hope to be seeing more soon! The great Rick Derringer on guitar. A fantastic musician in his own right.

You MUST watch Edgar and Johnny Winter "Tobacco Road" live version from around 1972.
After I saw JB's reaction to Shine On You Crazy Diamond, I was going to recommend this. Then I forgot! I'm glad someone else took care of it.
Gosh i miss those days so much
love this!!!!!
Keep opening your mind brother! It does a body, mind and soul good.
That's our boy Bad Bob!

Now you see it! We lived it
What's next, is he gonna jump on the drums? Lol. Priceless reaction. Love it.
This song is crazy! Love it. By the way, this is a true live performance. The recording is different.
How about Sly and the Family Stone.. 69 and 70 they were big.. I want to take you higher, Stand, Thank You Fallentenme Be Myself, Everybody is a Star, Dance to the Music, Hot fun in the Summertime
I love them as well.
Edgar and Prince are the only modern musical stars who can put out a album with a 5 piece band with no members. Insane.
Will leave you speechless
Over the Target , yet again ...
Give this one 6 stars bro !
Best reaction to anything I have seen. Your face!
I seriously thought your face was going to melt off, lol, great reaction!
The look on your face is priceless

Got to hear Johnny Winter's song 'Tobacco Road'
Omg..just recalled an ancient memory of my friend Bonnie and I in the 7th grade made up a dance to this called the Funky Frankenstein lol 😆
Famous story is once someone asked Edgar what instruments does he play and his answer was yes.
The Very First Time Anyone Ever Slung A Keyboard Synth Around His Neck On Stage.
I've heard parts of this before and as background for shows but never knew the title before or that it was by the Edgar Winter Group.
My favorite song of all time. "They Only Come Out At Night" was the first album I ever bought, and it was for this song specifically. My favorite Edgar Winter song is “Dying to live!”
Saw him and Jonny in 1973 in Winterland Arena in San Francisco. I was sitting on the floor when this song came on and everyone was stomping and jumping and rushed the stage. I almost got trampled. Great memories, thank you.
Great reaction man!!
I loved your reaction to this video, it was awesome seeing you feel so good! The same way I feel when i listen to them. Thank you for reacting to their performance!
Do Tobacco Road next! Same group!
Easy street by this group is my favorite
Now you need to hear the studio version.
Edgar Plays Organ, Sax, Synth, Timp Drums. You Really Need To Listen To Their Version Of "Tobbacco Road"
Drum solos watch the one and only Buddy Rich, from another planet.
I had the 45 rpm as a kid.
A MUST SEE/HEAR Classic,, A True Treat For Your Ears & Eyes,, Herbie Hancock "Rockit"
(Official Music Video A MUST!!)...TRUST ME!!!

Music from my young teenage days.
For this performance: Edgar Winter, Keyboard, Alto Sax, Timbales, ARP 2600 Synth. Rick Derringer, Guitar. Dan Hartman, Bass. Chuck Ruff, Drums.
This clip comes from the old BBC series 'The old grey whistle test', probably the greatest music TV show.........ever!!!!
