Not only is he scatting, he's doing it to the notes he's playing on the keyboard. Saw Edgar several times in concert, cool thing was the musicianship, they were so tight and perfect live, no sloppy play from these guys, you got your money's worth at their shows.

These two brothers from Texas were the most talented Blues singers and guitarists around. Both are "Albino." So much talent between them it's unbelievable. Johnny recently died at 77 or 78 yrs old. I think Edgar (organ/sax/vocals is still alive.

Johnny Winter was one of most respected blues guitarist out there. The AM top forty crowd that I grew up around had never heard of him. His musicianship was unbelievable. I loved the blues then and still love it now. Edgar had a hit with his own group called
    “ Frankenstein “. It’s a funky instrumental piece.

This was amazing. I had the pleasure of seeing Johnny Winter (with the longer hair) in person in the late 1990’s. He was still amazing on the guitar even though he could barely walk and had to be helped onto the stage. Their talents were off the charts due, partly, to their father’s musical nurturing. Great reaction. Love your colorful look and personality. 😘

I must admit my mama at first didn't approved of me listening to that song yet it was MAJOR hit in america. This is what music is all about. yes, that is what you called scatting, making your voice mimick the sound of the instrument that you're playing. My Very Groovy Chick K.S.O.,
This was an excellent rendition by the Winter Brothers and their band. The song was written and recorded by Folk-Blues singer/songwriter John D. Loudermilk in 1960. The song has been covered a number of times. The Nashville Teens had the biggest hit with their cover in 1964. The song is a bit autobiographical for Loudermilk growing up Durham, North Carolina. There is street called Tobacco Road. There is also a film of the same name. This cover is definitely going into my playlist. Yes, Edgar was scatting in parts of the song, especially near the end. RIP Johnny.
May you have a blessed day and evening.

I’m a geezer on food stamps so I can’t contribute, but here’s a suggestion. If you want to see some breathtaking guitar, try any of the zillions of live shows by RORY GALLAGHER. The Stones asked him to,join, but he turned them down. He didn’t want to get stuck. Every guitarist since - Beck, Page, The Edge, Slash, Gary Moore - they all loved Rory, as did Muddy, and Wolf. He could play any style of blues, electric or acoustic, in any tuning, fingers or slide, and his slide was hair-raising. Try “I Could Have Had Religion” first. It’ll give you the creeps. Just right for Halloween.

"Scat" is mimicking instrumental by vocal means. Sometimes, people can't afford instruments, then they find the voice is the instrument. It could be incorporated into a band that does have instruments.
I find, it livens up a tune, by giving a chance to dialogue with other performers, through a call and response, or one can parallel scat along with their own instrument.
It could even, potentially, save a performance, if instruments experience malfunction. Mostly, it's just fun exploring expression, and being a resourceful human.
    Check out:
    The Mills Brothers,
    Ella Fitzgerald,
    Louis Prima,
    Louis Armstrong,
    Mel Torme,
    Al Jarreau,
    George Benson,
    Bobby McFerrin,
    "Scatman" John, and others.
