Had a Suzuki DF200 for 10 years on my boat - great motor no problems. One major benefit of Suzi is they are much cheaper to service than other brands. My 100hr dealer service is around $600 whereas my friend's Yamaha is over $900.
G'day finally at age 60 brought my first ever BC 615 br in Nov 2019 with Suz150. Awesome fuel economy & plenty of grunt when crossing those sketchy bars also purchased with the minn kota ulterra. Like yourself I,m not the tallest bloke God gave breath to however I can launch & retrieve the boat on my own as I got Blake's to put on fully fabricated alloy steps which bolt onto the trailer just in front of the spare no drilling etc & can be removed & can be put on another Easy Tow trailer if I ever decide to change rigs All I do is reverse down into the water climb up the steps while grabbing the anchor for extra support & into the front of the boat. Same deal when exiting the boat after retrieval More than happy to send some pics just not sure how to do it on this platform. Hope this has been helpful. Ps enjoy your honesty , tips & videos. Cheers Pete
Another honest vid, thankyou. I haven't been a fan of Suzuki in outboards but your points are correct and now my new boat also has two of them! In WA it is hard to find any new boats and to get a test drive in them is virtually impossible. Its a sellers market and unfortunately not too many of the dealers go the extra to secure a deal. I ended up with a Caribbean 2400 with twin 150's and all the fruit. Totally different to the Quinny pressed ali boat I've had for 19 years but handles and rides sweet. Hopefully pick it up in a couple of weeks and i'll let you know how is goes. Thanks for all your suggestions and info along the way and congrats on the 500 subs! You're personal touch replying to posts goes along way to this. Well done Graeme
Thanks Graeme! omg I love the Carribbean 2300 but especially the 2400. absolute dream boat, what a beast. yep I basically can't even read magazine or dealer reviews anymore because there is ALWAYS motivation behind them and they never truly talk about the flaws...
Appreciate the unbiased, honest review mate. I'm looking to repower my extreme 695GK with a yamaha or Suzuki. I'm leaning more towards the Suzuki for extra change in my pocket!
I'm a bit surprised they didn't offer you a 4 blade prop when you specified your usage. I have a solas 4 on my 670c and it's been a transformation. Out of the hole and mid range massive improvement in torque and economy.
Yeah, dropped from 36 to 33 kts. Top speeds off the WA coast are very rare. Long runs across the gulf in Exxy are the only time I missed the top end. That's with a 150 yamaha.
@Camh1968 so when I posted this I had a 14.25 * 17 solas prop and it did drop some top speed and WOT revs. So I ended up swapping it for a Powertech prop from Oz propellers which was a 14.25 * 16. PTZ4R16PCLYX200 Which I found gave me more top speed and revs 37kts 5900rpm. Very happy with that.
Lighter weight and fuel economy. The V6 Suzi's aren't awesome on fuel. And very little real world difference in terms of performance. Both good engines though.
@@BaitBallin many thanks. A V6 Suzuki 200HP owner with a BC 670HT advised me that he preferred the V6 200 over the I4 200HP in open water with big swells and carrying 3 adults over long distances… How does the I4 200HP handle these conditions? Any mods to the I4 needed to handle these same conditions like the V6 would? How to optimise the mid-range in the I-4 200HP Suzuki? Would that extra 30kg of weight on transom (from the V6) make a significant impact on handling and performance on the 670 BC?
I can't remember, but it definitely wasn't buried down on the bottom hole. In my experience, most shops and people have their engine mounted too low, but do this to account for either not enough torque or incorrect prop set up. So you need to do both at once in most cases.
@@BaitBallin thanks. I have reviewed this video and tried to zero in on the engine mount hole arrangement. @@BaitBallin My boat length is 6.7m, beam is 2.51m, and weight is 1361kg. Deadrise is 19 degrees. I am running a Mercury 200hp 2 stroke 6 cylinder. Do you think that I will be happy with the performance of this new motor since I am going from a six cylinder to a four-cylinder? I hear that the 2 strokes have a quick hole shot compared to 4 strokes but the dealer tells me that the Suzuki has the best torque of all the 4 strokes. What is your opinion?
1361kg hull weight? I'd opt for a 225 if your budget and boat can take it. If limited to a 200, the Suzuki has excellent gearing for swinging bigger props and good torque. I say if you get the right 4 blade on there, you won't be disappointed at all and you will simply love the engine all round. So put it this way, it won't be the same sure.... But overall, quiet, smooth, economical etc. I think it's a good move.
Hi Bait Ballin. I finally received my 2022 Suzuki 200hp fly by wire. I love the motor. Lots of torque. There is a noise and vibration at idle speed while in gear. If I increase the rpm's the noise get quiet. It happens randomly only at idle rpm in gear. The noise/vibration also goes away if i shift back to neutral. I think its prop chatter. Have you experienced this issue? The prop i have is a Suzuki stainless 3x16x18.
I have a 4 stroke Suzuki, if I do not take it out that often do I need to turn it on regularly to avoid issues ? If yes do I just have it in a neutral position or the prop needs to spin? Thanks
Yes run it at least once per fortnight. Run it until it warms up to normal operating temperature, then for a few mins more. Don't need to put into gear / spin prop.
Another fantastic and well measured review! If I got a new boat I'd have to go Suzuki or Yamaha as you say solely based on previous experience with and zero issues.
