Finishing second by 2 seconds to the top returning NCAA runner AS A FRESHMAN is really insane. He’s the future cheserek.
I like him but simmer down, two different types of runners and it’s way way way too early to see Nico’s true potential

Man really broke 23 on his first 8k.
I say the course was short. no way all those people even ran low 23. unless youre telling me all the top talent in the country ran this race.
Really consider that xc? It was a track race on grass...
@@tommcquade5213 Yeah XC is SLOWER than the track just from the terrain itself so for a lot of guys to run this fast of a time, gotta consider short.
@@OfficialSayyeau lol I know... I ran D1... What I'm saying is the biggest hill in this race was the lip of the mats they had to step over... Elite runners on a dry flat hard grass surface would eat this course alive. Ya it could have possibly been a tad short but that was not a real cross country course. Not gonna run a time like that on a course like Rim Rock Farm in Kansas.

Mike smith has really develop nico. Form is wayyy better and he’s much stronger. Gonna be a beast

Yeah he's got a lot more muscle. I was worried he might have injuries if he didn't build up more strength.

Ya. Form has improved a ton. Probably bc of an actual college weight training program and his upper body looks stronger
@@theballer4150 Not really form improvement. Nico always had amazing foot strike and form wasn't bad. he just race his guts out in big races. He was 16-17 in HS. He is growing into his body. No form work is needed for that. it's called turning 18 and growing into his body.
Seeing Nico's form not making him look like he was on the verge of death brought a tear to my eye

Nico's form has improved. Hopefully, he'll feel a little smoother, running, going forward.
He’s always had a nice stride, but he no longer has such a noticeable wrenching upper body.
Upper body strength not bulk will improve his form and running economy.

Yes, this is embarrassing footage. Camera-person can't keep runners in frame or in focus, with apparently no motion stabilizers, engine roaring.... always amateur hour at flo-track....and they expect you to pay for it, lol.
@@donshields2379 batteries don't just 'die'. Make someone fully in charge of the battery powered vehicle and if 'dies', fire him/her and get someone else to do the job. This is clearly the right place for a battery powered vehicle Come on, man - this isn't 1965 or rocket science. These runners deserve better.

Agreed! Although I comment some harsh critiques about the loud lawnmower-like sound of the cart and the bumpy camerawork, I definitely think that NEW and relevant races are more interesting! So, I do appreciate FloTrack!

Gutsy move by Nico at 16:00 mark. He had nothing left. If he does the right training, stays injury free, and doesn't burn out mentally, Nico really going to do something great. US distance running has a great future. See ya in Los Angeles in 2028!
Big difference between this and LA 2028. Don’t forget you’ve got guys who are only 1 year older like Ingebrigsten that can run sub 3:30 1500 or Kiplimo that can run faster than Nicos 5k pace for a half marathon. Nicos got a bright future but on a world stage... we’ll see

i lived literally down the street from craig ranch. it’s incredible to see how big xc has gotten out here in vegas- as club wise it is a sprint city. there’s so many other beautiful parks and golf course that could be used, but i’m so glad to see vegas holding an ncaa race

@@Meepmeep452 Boise State runner and he's not a bad runner. NAU and BYU are like (Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Oklahoma) in football. Boise State holds up pretty well and has been an up and coming program. Right now they have a lot of younger guys on their roster. They just are not able to recruit Nico or Clinger type athletes yet.

Dude I just checked Strava and Connor Mantz did a 10 mile cool down after this!! Holy shit that man did this as like a 5 mile pickup in a 19 mile day
Nico Young has vastly improved his form. He is not used to losing, so getting out-kicked at the end will help him in future races. Even though his past form looked uncomfortable, he was still running killer times. Changing what previously worked to produce great times could backfire. I’m hopeful that Nico will win future NCAA titles.

@@freshappleseed6966 of course there is variety but generally from what I’ve seen (especially in ncaa xc) American courses are far less challenging than per say Canada or the UK.

Great camera work. But you need an electric cart for the camera. That engine was too noisy, not to mention the fumes they put out. It is fun to listen to the few spectators tha come to XC races. The women’s race was the same.

@@nicholaslyndaker4848 well that didn't work. He got out sprinted and lost the race. But he is a fr in his first racing going against one of the top runners in the ncaa. I think he did a great job. I bet he learn alot from this race.

Nico ran this like a boss. Take it out relaxed, then he starts to push at about 3 miles in, breaks the pack apart, only Conner can hang. Nico gonna run in front in NCAA too. Gonna be great to see. Amazing improvement in form. Gotta work on his finish. I predict top 10.

Amazing run by Young he should’ve been patient his track speed is a weapon. Mantz is stronger and more experienced. It was insane watching Casey out there kicking ass!
I think Mantz is both stronger and faster than him, Nico still has to develop a little more before he can kick like that.

@8:39 they were at 8:37 for 3k which is about 22:59 pace for the leaders, they had slowed down and would increase pace later

How many corners are you allowed to cut in the NCAA?. They were great at it. Or maybe the red flags were just suggestions.
Nico was a little surprised when Connor passed him going towards the finish line. Nico is going to be one of the greatest. But old man Connor still can teach him a thing or two. Nice race. 8k isn't 10ks.. I doubt Nico finishes this high in the final.
