    Any info and help regarding this issue is much appreciated
    Thanks

    Take the program number back to 4 digits...
    So
    .. O1234....
    Some systems regardless of update, only want 4 digit numbers after the 'O' statement. Try that.

      Hi
      Unfortunately 4 digits made no difference and still would not work
      Thanks

    I have no experience with either of these machines or the floppy emulators, but my general observation is that when your machine is able to find and read the file, the file in question is using a limited amount of characters '073153' and also without a file extension. My first troubleshooting step would be to try and save the program from the computer in this same way that the second machine was able to (8 characters or less, all numbers) and see if the problem still occurs.
    The reason why the above may be relevant is that when characters exceed 8 characters, a special mechanism kicks in to allow the friendly and longer display of file names (greater than 8 characters), but not all devices may be able to handle this - although I would say modern systems should be able to. This system often will have a suffix '~1' or '~2' at the end of the file when displaying the short version which would indicate that this has happened when viewing the files on a system which either defaults to displaying the short version, or is incapable of displaying the longer friendlier version. This system is called 'Short File Name' and you can find the Wikipedia link here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8.3_filename
    Normally on Windows formatted drives there is a directory called 'System Volume Information', which since it is such a long name would show as 'SYSTEM~1' on a system which is only capable of displaying the Short File Name version. The reason you probably don't see this in your Windows Explorer view is that it's marked as a Hidden and System directory. If you changed Windows Explorer to show Hidden files, you'd likely see it. It's curious that one of your machines doesn't show it, but the other does - that at least indicates it is handling it differently and a possible indicator to the above as the source of the problem.
    My suggested test is trying to keep it under the above 8 character limit to avoid this possible issue. All being said the behaviour is weird, and I'm not sure if the above is related but it would be my first port of call.

      Hi
      Thanks for taking the time to reply
      I have tried to mimick the code format that gets sent out from the machine that then works in the vf3 but when I do that it still won’t work, that’s a program with no file extension with a name of say O12345 and the job name O12345 but as said that seems to make no difference and won’t work !
      But when I open the files together, the one that works and the one I mimick they appear identical from what I can tell, same lines, same name, both no file extension etc but one from the machine works and one from fusion 360 post processor does not
      Also what is confusing as that regardless of name size, if the job has been exported from the vfoe then it will always show up on the other machine so the long name thing doesn’t seem to be an issue
      It’s got me stumped !
      Thanks
      Marc

    Don't know anything about CNC machines, but "in the old days" filenames could only have 8 characters. (+ an extension). (only A-Z or a-z, or 0-9; no spaces, accents, or anything 'special') It could be, that the older firmware version has the same limitations. This also explains the "garbage" you get when you are trying to read what files are on the disk.
    Longer filenames often get shortend to the first 6 characters and then ~1 (like SYSTEM~1 => another indication of the 8 characters limit). This shortening only works correctly if no of the unallowed characters are used.
    Don't know if this helps you in any way, but hey... it cannot hurt 🙂

      Hi
      Thanks for the reply,
      Quite a few people have said the same as you but I have tried posting out the code with just the name TEST and the normal O and 5 digit job number but it does not seem to make a difference? Maybe there’s still something I’m doing wrong in this regard
      When I’m back at the workshop tomorrow I will try again and see what happens,
      Thanks

    That looks like it's reading some internal hard drive or rom hard drive emulator or something, not the usb floppy emulator. Are you sure the floppy cable is plugged in the right way around (both on the USB emulator, and on the other end of the cable)? Floppy cables won't work if they're flipped around the wrong way when plugged in. If that thing is basically a PC running the Haas controller (which I think it is), check in the bios to make sure the floppy drive is enabled too.

    • @gorak9000
      @gorak9000 Год назад +3

      oh, I didn't watch the full video when I commented above. It could be the older controller just wants filenames without the .nc extension on the end. They're all just text files - you should be able to open them with notepad on the computer, but maybe the older control just doesn't want the filename to have the .nc at the end. Just rename your program you want and remove the .nc extension on the filename on the USB stick, and then it should show up on the older controller.

    • @gorak9000
      @gorak9000 Год назад +3

      it also looks like the file you were trying to load is more than 8 characters, because on the machine that does read it, it has the ^ character in the filename which was the way dos shortened long filenames (which are valid in windows 95 and newer, but not in dos). Maybe the other controller doesn't like that in the filename too, or doesn't support the long win95+ filenames. So the other thing you can try is make sure the filename before the dot is 8 characters or less, and try it both with .nc extension, and no extension on the filename too - it'll be some combination of those things.

    • @gorak9000
      @gorak9000 Год назад +2

      Oh, and a 3rd possibility is that it doesn't like filenames that have letters in them - old machines might only like program names / file names to have O and numbers only - seems it was a limitation of old cranky controls, so that's another possibility. When you save it on the newer machine, the filename is O followed by numbers only (and with no extension). Another thing to try

      Hi
      i have checked the usb drive cables and they cant be plugged in the wrong way around due to connector design so thats good. floppy drive is enable in the settings and as it will recognise a file exported from another machine it must be working in general? confusing lol

    What post processor are you using? Autodesk recommends using their HAAS pre-NGG post processor the one included in the standard fusion 360 incompatible with VF series machines. Do a search for VF series post processor's it should be the first in the list on Google search seeing I can't post the link.

      On your second video I saw that you used the post processor I suggested. It is odd that both VF's would read differently. But that may be due to the software versions of the two machines.

    do you use the batch manage tool for windows to format? also I have an old cnc lathe that uses the emulator as well, and requires there to be no file extension. if you can post a video with the different settings between the machines.

      The machines don’t have any settings for file names, but as show they do have different software versions
