In this video, I look back at how I problem solved drawing the elephant skin in one of my favourite drawings 'August'. It was really interesting to reflect on the drawing processes I used so I hope you find this deep dive useful. Let me know if you enjoy this type of content and what artwork you’d like me to breakdown next.

i love your comment
I've just recently started drawing portraits and more realistic things as opposed what used to draw, which was mostly anime lol. I've been learning to use lots of different tools I didn't even know existed before and I've gotten pretty good but I often feel like I'm doing something wrong, like I'm using the wrong tool in the wrong way, and this video really helped boost my confidence. Thank you friend :) you're an amazing artist and thanks to you I'll become better as well
This channel is literally a sanctum of tranquility for me 🥹
I literally agree this! The master himself! 👌
That's right!! 🖤🙏🏽🙌🏽
Oh my, this is super helpful. I live that you are not only breaking down the process, but the tools used also. That gives me something to experiment with. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for sharing this with us Jono! It's so amazing to watch your drawing just become 3D like that!!!
Your blending is inspirational, seriously. Thanks for the detailed video
Actually this video should get 2 crore viewers because of it's information which is too important to draw ✏️👌👌
Love from India 🇮🇳
It’s so cool, how you completely dive into your art and explaining what, why and how you do it. Thank you for giving us the possibility to join you through this process ❤
its only a pleasure :D thanks for watching!
I loved this video Jono. There are a lot of tips I can take from this to help improve my drawings. Your work is always inspirational, so thanks for sharing.
The patience and dedication and time and commitment and focus and resilience and imagination is mind boggling. Did I miss anything?
You are very generous to reveal your tecniques. Thank you
I remember showing my parents your squarespace website a few years ago and we were blown away going through your portfolio
Jono, éste es uno de los mejores vídeos que has hecho en RUclips. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I feel rushed when I get into detail and this made me pull on the handbrake for the flow to gradually grow on me. It's so much easier and time really shines through the details. Thank you so much and would like to share my progress with your mention as I'm sure many would learn to get so much better at their art
You make it look so easy!
WOW! I love the way you explain your process and thinking. You make every thing look so easy that it is wonderful to hear how you work through problem areas and persist. That makes it easier for me to keep on going with a project - realizing professionals like you have the same problems - and how to work through them. (I hope I explained this right) Thank you so much!
I dont think the struggle and doubt ever go away but you do become more familiar with the feeling. So glad this Vid could help a bit :)
I love this slower more detailed explanation of your drawing
Thanks! I'm going to try make more like it :)
@@JonoDry thank you so much!
Makes me want to go and tackle a huge art project. Very motivational. Great vid.

@@JonoDry Your Sqaurespace is not working.
Amazing art
great video and art
🔥🔥
this is amazing
This video SPOKE to me.
This kind of style is common in the philippines you can see that style in the philippines during the year 70' and 80' I was only 25 years when old when I started doing super realistic style in black and white charcoal pencil I device my own tools using cotton bamboo stick and painting brush which I reinvent to get the effect I want my passion for doing super realistic drawing becomes alive again I'm now a senior citizen but strong enough to do super realistic black and white charcoal drawing thanks for showing your super beautiful drawing
Great to see this process, thank you for sharing (also the blonde is fab)
Jono, my favourite...
Excellent drawing. I like the tip on building from medium shade. I normally pull from dark shadows so I'm going to switch and try building up more medium tones. I want to try an elephant holding a limp Zulu warrior in its tusks.
Id love to see the finished drawing! that sounds like a cool idea. GL!
Really so beautiful drawing friend.....
Amazing
Jono you made highlights on your hair i like it 💕😍
You are amazing bro 👏
Jono dry is too op❤
I recently got into drawing and I realized its less of a talent and more of a skill and that you have to figure out more of the textures you try to replicate. I am currently figuring out hair right now and overlapping it with fur so its cool seeing what different kinds you are using in your drawings
I am waiting for this kind of explanation video ❤️
Thank you sir 😌
Magnífica. Parabens pelo trabalho artístico. Grande abraço Brasil
amazing👍
Great!!

Travail artistique de création impressionnant.
Thanks.
Awesome 👍😎 i wish if also could draw like this ☺️
0:30 "Its gotta lot of simplicity to it."
Um, excuse me? That intricate masterpiece is simple???😅 lol
You are amazing 🔥
bravo pour vos œuvres
ყველაზე საუკეთესო ხარ.. ჩემი აზრით ეს არის ყველაზე პროფესიონალური და ნამდვილი მხატვრობა... ბრავო. 🥇
Jono you are a master. Smh
Nice vid Jono 👍 You mention about how you are constantly thinking when drawing...as it does take alot of concentration, do you ever have a tired mind but really want to draw? I work a day job and draw in my studio with what spare time i have but after work its hard to focus my thought sometimes (tired mind)...just wondered if or how you would deal with that? All the best buddy 👍
Digging the hair bruh ... Spring is here!
Unique
How do you get the proportions right? Do you use a projector or use a grid system?
masterpiece! bro which mechanical pencil do you use?
Can you tell us what your favourite paper is and why please? Also do you use a fixative or sealer. 🥰🥰🥰
The 👌 best
Шедевры !!! Научи меня этим тонкастям
my question is where do people buy those paper sizes from?
I have one question. Have you ever tried to used color pencil in one of your drawings
Please tell me from where u select reference picture
What is the name of using water paper
Love the hair! looks great on you :D
What grade of pencil are you using? You keep referring to a 90 or 9B pencil. I'm not familiar with 90 and 9B is just crazy dark (I rarely even use a 4B).
WOW! Do you sale or do commission work?
Did you use grid line?
What do you use for the rubber? It looks not like a rubber. With a rubber i cannot do so fine lightnings. Sorry for my english. I mean the Tool for the white effects.
I use a tombo mono zero eraser, or a kneadable eraser. if you check back in my videos I go over what tools I use. It could help answer the question better?
@@JonoDry ok, thank you for the answer. I will watch the other videos. Your pictures are great. How long do you learn for the realistic look?
Please my only question how do you handle shinny effects
Do you practice your drawings before hand?
Guys already making hyperealistic artworks while me focusing on picking up a pencil
Jono i have a question...... I FIND WHEN I AM DRAWING ON A FLAT SURFACE AS YOU DO I SOMEHOW LOSE PRESPECTIVE SO WHEN I HOLD THE DRAWING UP WHAT LOOKED GOOD LAYING FLAT NOW LOOKS SCEWED WHEN UPRIGHT FACING ME How do i fix this problem even when i use grids the same happens what can i do ... you are my favorite pencil artist world wide my 2nd is Emanuele Dascanio sometimes its difficult to chose you are both equally great artists and i mean that from the bottom of my heart i am 61 yrs old i pray i can draw just 1 drawing before i pass that rivals the quality you and/or Emanuel create chances are slim and i am no artist but a man must have a dream thank u my friend
Im sure you will! regarding the perspective though, its a tough one, I have always felt quite safe with the grid to help me not lose perspective when working flat, how frequently do you lift it up to check? and how loose is your grid?
@@JonoDry first allow me to thank you for your getting back to me on this i am sure you are very busy i feel privileged sincerely.. to answer your questions : i have to be honest i normally try a 2 to 3 inch square grid pattern over the entire page and try to fit things in on a very light sketch to begin with and i don't have a set time to lift the paper but since i have this difficulty i tend to lift the paper often i even had an eye exam done to make sure i wasn't seeing things wrong and i have been practicing parallels lines and cube drawing to make sure i do not have a skewed sense within myself and therefore manifesting the skew on paper all seems fine and i ask others how my grid looks and my drawing of cubes and parallels and no complaints from anyone so, all looks good i cant help but think its me somehow in my skill set or lack thereof ... Thank you so much for your great work your talent is breathtaking sincerely D
If I may please ask this "have any of your artwork ever been ruined by accident after putting loads of hrs into it"?
It happed to me once but that wasn't scaling any where close to size of pieces you do.
Llllooooovvveeee your art! Are you by any chance South African? Also where do you get your art supplies from?
How is it possible to be so precise while drawing upside down and not able to to see a full straight view of the art
Go!👏👍😎💖🙂
I need to put gold leaf in his work.
Pencils name
I love that the elephant looks like it is coming out of smokey graphite. Love the hair too!
I thing i know now that he loves elephants 😂🥺❤
Why do you pour water on the paper in some of your drawings !
Hellow sir your video very late I can't wait please sir
one of the first lets goo
Your blending stump is wet?
sometimes I have oil on it to try get darker tones but its a very tricky technique that can ruin artworks so be careful if you try it out.
Bro what've you done to your hair?!!
It was so nice before
"i bet Jada will buy this print for 1Million Dollars."
Hi sir I am a beginners artist
It's that paper or what because he pouring water before drawing 🤔
You should have shaded ur hair with 9b 😅😄
You didn't ask your mom about the hair, did you?
