  • BACH VIOLIN SONATA NO. 2, BWV 1003, FUGUE PART 1; The piece doesn't need any presentation, but the teaching approach by Miriam Fried could be definitely eye-opening; in fact, despite the renowned intensity of a Fugue, Our Master Teacher points out that very often Bach's inspiration for fugues comes from dances, and then describes the polyphonic structure; the result is that it demands less scanning and separations than we could think, which would bring to reshaping the performance and how we think about it.
    Professor: Miriam Fried.
    Assistant: Fumika Mohri.

Finally, someone talks rythm in Bach! What applies to this fugue is also valid for the fugue in the first partita, and even more so there. Simply respecting the basic rythmical prescriptions gives the music its own momentum. How come this old lady is about the only one to see the obvious.
