I shouldn't have listened. I sure miss my 97. I had a Banks intercooler installed and it almost made it a new truck. Now I have a 2016 and so far, I love it.
New diesels are insanely strong these days, but they just don't sound like diesels anymore. :( one of my favorite parts of driving my truck is either driving under overpasses or hammering down on an incline 😁 the only mystery for other people is figuring out whether it's a 7.3 Powerstroke or a 5.9 Cummins, two of the most common sounds when you think diesel engine IMO.
For 250k, it's very clean. Picked up a 99 last week, still checking things out. Got issues, ICP, IPR, etc. But it's a tenfold upgrade over the last truck. Thanks for the reference audio.
Hmm... I had it in the shop a couple months ago and they didn't mention anything like that, but I definitely agree with you regarding the sound. I'm pretty handy with a wrench, any idea how difficult/expensive repair would be? I'm no dummy, if something is clearly beyond my skills I have no issue taking it to a ahop... I'm hoping this is something I can handle at home, but I kinda doubt it.
I ended up taking the valve covers off and retorquing the retaining bolts and the rocker arms as well as put in a new ICP sensor and that clatter is no longer audible :)

Sounds like you have a few injectors not firing when you are cruising

I agree. I have two 7.3s and neither of them sound like that. Can't say for sure what it is though.
