Nice tips. Right on about the talking about books. Shoot, connecting with other readers is what this whole BookTube thing is about as far as I'm concerned.
In my case, reading slumps only seem to occur as part of the anhedonia that accompanies depression, so they're not so much "reading slumps" as they are "everything slumps." Afraid I haven't cracked that particular nut beyond stupid platitudes like "keep on truckin," "this too shall pass," "fake it till you make it," and the like. 🙄
Reading "fun" books is an interesting point. I enjoy many kinds of light fiction, but I currently live in a situation that has me so paranoid about "keeping my mind active," that the vast majority of my reading ends up devoted to some pretty heavy nonfiction. I almost force myself to read something lighter on occasion in an effort to prevent burnout, and BookTube has actually helped with that. I never would have predicted arrival at a place where I would need accountability to meet a "fun" quota, but here I am. 😂
But anyway, interesting and thoughtful video. Have a good one!

@@BryanM.R.-prionic1 good to hear from you Bryan! I appreciate the comment. I hear ya on the everything slumps, those can be challenging at times. That is when those light fiction books are key to get back into reading habits for me personally. I’m a big mood reader, don’t really plan what I will read over an extended period of time. So I find having 2 books going at once, 1 lighter book and 1 more dense piece is perfect for me depending on what I am feeling.
      Thanks for the kind words!

The point around chatting with friends and family about books is an interesting one. I think it's a really big one in terms of increasing your motivation to read and without having ever been in a 'book club', I imagine it's the same with them. If you have people that enjoy reading and talking about the books they have read or are reading, it makes you want to be part of those conversations. It almost makes reading a social activity in some ways, whilst at the same time being as solo an activity as possible haha. Unfortunately, I don't really have those people in my life currently. I feel most of my friends that read don't really talk about it all the much.

@@VellaMagic yes exactly that is the gist of it. I don’t have many people like that either in my life, mentioned my girlfriend in the video but apart from the that sometimes my conversations fall on deaf ears. Part of the reason why I started this change was to have a space to talk about books if nothing else to myself! Youre welcome to join in those conversations with me (as you already have with multiple comments) I appreciate you coming back to my videos here!

@@BookswithSam1 No worries, I'd love to find people I can chat reading with! I'm sure it'll help my motivation to read rather than play video games. Haha

@ I feel ya, video games capture me from time to time which is okay. As long as it’s not alllllll the time lol

A tip that helped me a lot, but it also took me a long time to accept and implement: You don't have to struggle through a book, because you're allowed to dislike a book and abandon it. Either for the moment or forever.

@@CharlieCatHimself13 love this! Reading is a hobby afterall, so if you are not enjoying the current book it’s okay to put it down! I frequently take breaks from some of my longer books to read a shorter one and spark my love of reading back. Great tip! Thanks for the comment
