I have to agree with this video 110% percent. I just bought my first pair of double monks and I purchased a pair of Magnanni Cognac Double Monkstraps shoes with no broguing. Essentially I bought a slightly lighter version of Shoe #1 in this video. MAN, I haven't found an outfit yet, short of a tuxedo, that they don't absolutely rock with.
Hello. Around 2:00 or so, you mention another video about how to select the size of the shoe? Which video was it? Are you speaking of the width or the elements, like if the toe cap is long or wide? Thanks.
The funny thing is that I started buying the last pair shown in the video right away. I found it simply glimmering, couldn't leave it in the store. Good thing I now have to buy a simple suit to go with it.
You guys are legit the best fashion channel on RUclips. You guys and Morts & More are legends. Awesome video guys, would love to know your guys opinion on the spectator shoe and how you would dress it up.
I’m looking at a pair of monk straps that don’t have a cap toe and I don’t see many styles that way. Also, I have slender feet and afraid the double mink may fit loose bc you don’t have much strap adjustment.
appreciate the content guys. When you guys get big in the future, please keep the videos simple just like this, don't push any sponsor items like many others.
Why would suede be really hard to pull off? That's the complete opposite of reality. Suede is less formal than calfskin, but it can still be worn on some formal occasions and most definitely on casual days.
I know your question was quite some time ago. Personally I would keep this shoe simple. Pair of dark denim jeans and a white polo or Oxford. This type of shoe is a statement shoe. So, it's best to let them do all of the talking. A lighter shade of blue Oxford or Polo would also work.
Hey guys, thanks for the awesome content! That brogue suede and the single monk is stunning af!! Can I mention that I think there's too much of a contrast between your instagram photos and your video/studio quality. In my humble opinion, a better camera camera with more popping colors and a simpler studio arrangement would be big up in your game (I'm not sure about that suit in the background, it looks so busy to me) Pls don't block me lol
It is not the camera, it's the colour grading of lack of thereof that gives the video a flat look in comparison to their Instagram page. Those photos have been edited to give them that pop while this video looks like its straight out of the camera with some cutting of the film. Try running your videos through adobe premier with some Luts options (can be purchased from some photography accounts on RUclips) to give your videos that vibrant colour
I've been wanting a pair of cobbler union double monks for a while but also considering a suede double monk strap. Absolutely love them. Those last monks 🤢🤢🤮
brogue monks are definitely bolder. ofc suede is more casual, but that would allow them to be worn with jeans and chinos and with (less dressy) suits without a tie. hey guys what are the layers you would wear while dressing up in sub zero weather?
@@gentslounge haha I get that you guys don't get cold weather. But I saw a magic show where the guy walks around in the snow with just a suit on. That got me wondering...
@@qarhsi Quite late but I'd say your best chance would be to start with a merino wool undershirt and underpants, a higher thickness oxford shirt, a thick flannel 3 piece suit for the added vest layer and finish that up with a thick a long wool overcoat and some sleek lined chelsea boots.
Don’t wear them with a tux but anywhere from the office to a wedding you’ll be just fine. It is a more casual dress shoe but you can for sure suit it up.
How many people make a monkstrap? Not enough. There's only enough monkstraps if I can go into a shop near me and buy one. If you go into the average shop and look at all the shoes presented there, monkstraps need to be among them. But for the past twenty years, no shoe shop I ever entered had one. 20 years ago, I bought a book that told me they exist. Without the book I wouldn't know.
i got an ad on this vid then i got an ad right after that ad then i was gonna click skip ad but the ad was 5 seconds long so when i went to click skip it paused the video. lol fml.
I try to stick with classic, sleek oxford lace-ups for dress. Occasionally I'll sport monk straps, but I prefer the classic single-strap traditional look over the doubles. Also enjoying wearing old-school full brogue wing-tips in brown whiskey/cognac tones.
Sounds like monk straps just aren't your thing these days. I'm going through the same thing with dress boots. Used to wear them a lot now just find my self picking them less and less.
I agree that "classic menswear doesn't go out of style". Thing is, I've never regarded double monks as being 'classic'. As best I can tell, they first showed up on the scene about ten years ago or so, and then became trendy at some point a few years thereafter. Now, when I see a guy wearing them, my instinct is to roll my eyes, and I'm thinking "that dude is trying too hard to be fashionable - and in the process, he's missing the boat."
I hear ya. I got a closet full of chukka style desert boots - all of which I love - but finding I'm actually choosing to wear them less than I was in the past.
Maybe I'm oldschool, but to me it just doesn't look good wearing those kind of shoes without socks. Looks like someone trying too hard to be fashionable. I liked Don Johnson in Miami Vice, but in spite of how he wore his shoes. Just my honest opinion.

That's awesome! Magnannis are great shoes!
Those kiltie monk straps...I could wear those every day if I could. Love it
That's my signature shoe. That suede model is amazing!!!
One of ours too!
I'd love to see some more casual monkstarp inspiration outfits. Great video btw!
You got it
What is the brand of the first two monkstraps? I like those
Gordon Rush
I just enjoy you guys channel so much I do look forward to each video ... you guys just make cool interesting videos keep up the great work
Thanks again Raymond!
I'm more to the right.. But the left goes well with casual attire. Great video.
Thank you!
Hello Gents, the last one, can I take with socks!?
Those first pair are super dope. Love the color!
Hello. Around 2:00 or so, you mention another video about how to select the size of the shoe? Which video was it? Are you speaking of the width or the elements, like if the toe cap is long or wide? Thanks.
What's the colour (or brand) of the suit at 5:30 called?! It looks SO GOOD but I can't seem to find suits of that colours anywhere on the internet!
What brand is each pair of shoes.
That suede monk and cap toe with slight brogue 😍😍😍
👊

What are your thoughts about black, double monk straps, with a cap toe? How would you wear them?
1:06 the most dressy of the shoes in the shoes category? even more than Oxford??

Amazing video. Those suede monk straps are nice. Would like to see some examples of how both of you add your own style to each pair.
Are monk strap shoes trendy?

That's how we've been doing it since day 1.
Nice one guys!
Thank you!
Can I wear these shoes to college
Are the Gordon rush monkstrap tan or cognac?
Tan
@@gentslounge thank you for a reply.
Great video!! Could you also make another , where you’d give outfits alternatives to wear with monkstraps👍🏿

It's harder to pull off because it is less formal and they dont match as much as your typical leather.
How about blue double monk straps how would you rock it? what type of outfit

Should I buy single or double strap for a suit?
It's your preference.
Great video a have both single and double monks love them.
Nice!

Not feeling that shirt george
LOL George lobbying HARD for them monkstraps. Maybe in 2020 I’ll get a pair in oxblood.

Guys good video but you should have shown more of how to tailor the shoe with different looks. Information good however content was lacking.
Hey guys, could u help me out here. I've always been taught tht double monks aren't for suits cause they're casual shoes and not formal ones.

Double monk-straps had their day in the sun - about 5 years ago. By now, they just scream 'dated'.
So what are you wearing? Btw Classic menswear doesn't go out of style....
