How refreshing to see a sensible, 'real world' review. The internet is littered with reviewers aged 20-30 something complaining that a car is sluggish because it only hits 60 mph in 10 seconds , or reviewers around 6 feet in height complaining that back seat room is abysmal because there are only 4 inches of space between their knees and the seat in front. Good stuff in this review.
I’ve had various cars within this price range and I have to say Hyundai are by far the best. You get more features for your money on the basic models compared to others. Their hybrid engine is very economical (I used to get around 400 miles out of a full tank on my Ioniq). I stupidly got the newest Mazda 3 with the highest specs possible after my Ioniq and Mazda’s performance was underwhelming to say the least. They couldn’t even get an automatic gear box right. Hyundai on the other hand, are comfortable and reliable cars. Which is why I’m going back to Hyundai and getting the Kona next. Can’t fault it at this price range.
I ordered the ultimate in the same colour 3 weeks ago, can't wait for it to arrive. This video has just got me even more excited. Switching from a Seat Arona excellence lux which I've so enjoyed driving to my first Hyundai, hopefully this will be just as fun to drive
Very real world and details review. I recently bought one and I noticed you got full tank around 400 miles but when I filled up full tank (38L) it only shows 347miles range on the dash board. I am wondering does it change or did you have same rang of millage on the dashboard and it changes as you drove?
Driver's seat a reasonable height, but not like a Tuscon.Back seats are really for tall adults, very tight in back.Boot is average size. All these issues are addressed in the new Kona,on sale in UK this year! Interested to know how Anna thought it was i.e getting in and out, suspension (not too hard) and parking?
I’ve just secured an Ultimate. Currently it’s being prepped for collection. Went down the PCP route, so hope I get near to GFV come the end of contract in 4 years 🤞
This is another car that's on my shortlist, along with the new Jazz and Yaris Cross. Great review as usual. I love the look of the Kona, it's very elegant to my eye.
on the subject of heated seats, i couldnt be without them they are extremely usefull on winter mornings whilst engine gets up to operating temperature the heated seats on my tucson are brilliant
Very good review, I'm not planning on changing my car until next year but this car is one of my options. I must admit I've never understood why people want heated seats. I've had many cars over the years and I've never ever thought to myself ' this seat is a bit cold, I wish it was heated'.
It’s a nice addition in winter, I like having the seats warming me but with the windows down especially in winter. Thank you for your kind words The Walrus, keep us posted on what you get.
Good video and some good points. But the Sport mode makes a lot of noise and goes nowhere i would like someone to comment on the paddles and if the very slow 11.1 seconds can bettered using them ?
I noticed it far more responsive in Sport, cameras don’t do it justice - paddles like any other in essence, fun from launch, more engaging and a touch quicker -
I do hope you can answer this, as no one else seems to be able to. I have a Kona Hybrid, the same as you reviewed, in fact your review convinced me to get this car. A great car EXCEPT, I have had to reset the 12v battery several times since owning it. I’ve asked everywhere, but got no answers, have you any idea why I should have to do this reset, time and time again ?
Ok, first - thank you for watching our videos, secondly what’s the reason for resetting? Going flat frequently etc also did you use the button to offload from the hybrid system to 12v?
@@PlanetautoUK I will try to explain what is happening. Today I used the car for a half hour trip on a motorway, so doing at least 70 mph with no use of any auxiliary systems, Got home and parked up, two hours later used the car for a five minute journey, again no auxiliary systems. Left the car for three hours and then when I came to start it again, the red battery symbol was on and I had to press the reset button to get the car to start.
recently picked up one of these on long-term hire. (1.6 GDI Hybrid SE Connect). Things really bugging me after only a few days (in no particular order). 1. Steering assist? It's like I'm fighting with it. How on earth do I turn this OFF? Read somewhere else about a "sport mode" that turns this on? Who knows. I'm lost. 2. I assume the green "EV" and what appears to be a "lane assist" light on the dash are supposed to continually flash on and off? Most annoying. 3. On the subject of lane assist. Is there supposed to be a very irritating BEEP particularly when turning EVERY corner when it thinks I'm too close to the kerb? 4. Presumably Sat Nav is an option or only available on higher up models? 5. Ride seems quite firm to me. (understatement). 6. Backup camera quality looks very poor in my opinion. 7. Brakes are "iffy". They seem quite fierce, yet, at low speeds particularly i find myself having to brake earlier. Maybe it's the electric motor i'm not used to. It's like there's 2 types of braking. That said, there are some things I do like. Not as many as 7 though. If anyone at all could answer I'd much appreciate it. Thank you. It's driving (no pun intended) me nuts!
Interesting, I didn’t notice any of these mind you I drive umpteen ev and hybrid cars with safety verging on automation. It’ll be interesting to see what owners come back with, thank you Don
@Planetauto Thanks for the reply. Shame you weren't able to shed any light on the issues I'm having. Oh well. I've found the User Manual in the glove box though, so I'll see if that might tell me anything. Fingers crossed. 🤞
The thing is what you describe we’re used to plus jerks in the steering without indicating, sensors alerting when close to obstacles, stiffer ride due to extra weight, GPS is only on higher trims. The braking on ours was exemplary, it offered responsive steering, braking and acceleration.
To be honest I find this car seems to accelerate faster than the supposed official 0 to 60 figures. So what mode was the test done? Eco, Normal or sport?
@@PlanetautoUK have had my new Kona Premium for a couple of weeks or so. Goes well. Seems to have a good MPG particularly if you drive it so electric motor kicks in. Good for driving around town. Still wading through the hand book that is not exactly clear. My major moan is if you want to use Apple CarPlay you need to connect your phone by cable. Really annoying as my wife’s new i10 connects wirelessly. Why such a downgrade? Not a deal breaker but really takes the edge off. My wife thinks it’s funny.
At 15.41 and 15.47 minutes and seconds in to video you said belive it or not its slightly charging this where you never spoke about the settings to do with the sport mode and flappy paddles setting i think I got that correct (this is not a knock to you but I saw this settings in another video.)
