I'm sure it's just my OCD, but the seal on your B pillar has a section that is folded back/under the trim... You should just run your finger under it to straighten it out. :)

I agree, the Governments need to force all new homes to have a power system ready to go. Solar panels and a battery storage system.

Adding a 10kWh (ish) battery & a dozen solar panels would probably cost less than £10,000 on a new build. That's about 4% extra on a £250,000 house. As installations scale up, it would become even cheaper.

Hey i agree i have solar and battery, but force? it's a strong word and at some point what else can be forced. Encouragement over force

Also, one argument I always hear is “the wind doesn’t alway blow and sun doesn’t always shine (on the ground) but what they forget is the wind does blow in other places usually, when it’s not blowing near you, and same with the sunshine when it’s cloudy near you. Then combine that with widening the capture by the cables links to the European continent and Scandinavian countries. That widens the area that dies capture that wind and Sun then, yes, capturing it in batteries and other new upcoming tech. Then there’s our existing Hydro and new one about to be built in Scotland adding to the ones there already and the new upcoming Tidal power that’s been successfully trialled and about to roll out and a guarantee of its generation every day, and it’ll be captured and stored for release when needed. As the world and UK’s power demand decreases because of better builder economic white goods, better efficiency in heating and transport (and not increasing because we will be all driving evs but less electricity required to power oil refining and as factories and housing add solar and battery storage, the grid will easily manage

James, are you considering upgrading your old Tesla for a new one?

excellent topic & lots to ponder. Biggest brake on the whole renewable power gen is 'vested interests' that have us all by the throat. I agree home installs is where that lobby can't effect the transition as much. It's so depressing that after all the progress that you & others have brought about with ev ownership that fossil fuel industry appears to be slowing that part of change & Government not helping by moving the 2030 deadline. But that 's another video I guess. Thanks for your output.

Batteries need a grid connection, surely the best place for these is in an old coal power station? For new housing, a better solution may be one big battery charged by spare solar from all the houses built rather than one per house, Octopus are now working with builders to supply houses with zero electricity bills.

I would tend to agree except for one problem. If it is centralised I doubt the actually people in the houses will see any financial benefit. Rather the developer will say, look this is awesome, we an charge the householders, make money from the energy generation/storage and then sell the whole thing to investors and make a tidy sum there too. Or perhaps I'm, just being too pessimistic?

you may be right but i was trying to ink it with the Octopus deal where there is a guaranteed (presumably with caveats on total consumption) of zero electricity bills which should be possible in a new development@@JamesCookeVlogs

I think the biggest issue with home battery storage is fire safety and the eventual replacement of the batteries, don't get me wrong I applaud anyone who has already done it but I don't see the government ever mandating Lithium batteries in homes... Keeping battery storage as part of the grid allows for greater fire safety and ultimately keeping people and other houses away from any fire should the worst happen...
