Prince's European fans were the most dedicated, especially the ones from Belgium and Holland. He toured there almost every year in the 80's and 90's. I got hooked on him after seeing his 1986 Parade concert. It blew my mind. I saw him perform live 57 times, some of which very rare and memorable aftershows. Because he often treated his fans to impromptu intimate live jams in small clubs. I remember one in Brussels where I was so close my nose almost touched his knee ! He was by far the most talented live performer ever, and his fans adored the ground he walked on. I still miss him every day 😢 But it's nice seeing people discover his work and appreciate his enormous talent.
Bonnie Boyer, rest her soul, was right in the pocket of gospel rooted singers Prince loved. I was lucky enough to see her with him on the Lovesexy tour which was to put it lightly the most unforgettable concert experience of my life. He lost a lot of money due to the stage set up but it was phenomenal and did what it set out to do - make us remember it forever.
My favorite version of this song! Yes, every concert was different. Prince always wanted to hear the attendees sing along with him, and he had us trained to stop, when he said "On the One!".
The laughing background singer is drummer Sheila E., the woman with the great voice is the late Boni Boyer, and the doctor is Matt "Doctor" Fink, Prince's keyboardist from his band "The Revolution". - Thanks for your reaction, please do more Prince!! 💜
Definitely a drum loop. Sheila E., one of the back up singers was the drummer. And I remember Bobby Z. (drummer from the Revolution) saying that during Purple Rain tour he had to use a drum sequencer on When Doves Cry (I think) track because Prince was really the only one who could sustain the complex rhythm playing live.
I was lucky enough to see him live over 20 times:) That includes being invited to several after-shows and after parties where he also performed. After his concerts he would frequently have an after-show or an after party. He usually started playing at 1 or 2am and played until dawn. It was epic 😎 He also pulled me onstage to dance once 🎉
Boiling it down to the simplest element of a Prince concert for an audience member: just pure fun. You’d go, not knowing what you’d see but assured you would have a great time
❤ your reactions. I've seen Prince live and later worked with him at his request at Paisley Park. The artist wanted me in one of his videos. Off stage Prince is just as cool , kind and funny. He will be 4ever in my life. #peaceandstaywild
This is from the concert movie Sign 'O the Times. They used concert footage from the Netherlands and a concert at Paisley Park (his studio/home) for the film. Of course he had a standard set list and it was definitely rehearsed but he also loved to jam!
Wooaw I LOVE THIS!! Can you altso react to Partyman, Gett Off or Money dont matter tonigt…….mmm love PRINCE….I wich all thing with him 🤭💋💋💋 love ur react……
There’ll never be another like him! I saw him over 20 times with afterparty/concert in the night and every time it blows my mind! I think it felt like an overdose (without any health-problems😉) The music, the funk, his voice, his instrument-playing,his style, the man(no, I’m not gay) it completely overwhelmed me everytime and surly the most others in the hall. The Atmosphere when he comes up on stage..i miss that so much like nothing else in the world. i‘m so thankful 2 live in his area and be a little little part of it❤️ Peace,Love and b wild!
Dr Fink with the stethoscope, holdover from The Revolution, and its a drum track because the drummer is Sheila E on this tour and she is singing background out front beside Bonny Boyer.
One of his band members said they had to learn several different versions of the songs because he was always changing it up. I saw Prince twice, 2004 and 2011. Best concerts I’ve ever been to.
Thanks for your great videos! You should check out „All the critics/ housquake“ and „Empty Room“ from the Montreux Shows 2009!!! The performances are stunning!!! PRINCE, G.O.A.T.
Saw him at a fairly small venue, the Masonic Temple in Detroit, for a 'Hit-and-Run" show during the Parade era (the show was only announced on a local R&B radio station and the tickets sold out in 45 minutes); Wendy had us sing "Happy Birthday" to Prince midway during the show 🎂🎶💜
What you're witnessing is Prince's informal introduction of his new backing band, The New Power Generation (NPG). Prior to this, the Revolution was his backing band. Gone are Lisa and Wendy Melvoin, who had provided vocals, guitar, and keyboards in the Revolution with Bonnie Boyer (vocals/ keyboards), Sheila E. (drummer/ vocals) and Cat Glover (dancer/ bkg vocals). Prince, too, was a drummer and a master of drum programming, so what we're hearing on this track is his programmed drum track. "Forever in My Life" was near the end of the night's performance so his minimalist approach to this song was to bring down the heavy production of the night's set and take it to church! I was fortunate to see Prince live on 4 different tours and he always brought something new to each time he took the stage. Check out from SOTT film "(It's Gonna Be) A Beautiful Night". You'll get to see Prince and Sheila E switch out drumming duties. Sheila E takes the mic for a mid song rap and Prince takes over the drums! "Housequake" is another fun song from the SOTT album/ movie.
Take a look, or think about maybe doing “Prince plays Santana medley”, I think you’ll like it! Love your channel. Your energy and enthusiasm towards the reactions is great to watch!!
you should react to It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night from the same movie. If you want to see high energy. I was lucky to see Prince 5 times. 1992, 1998, 2 x in 2004 and 2014
Always good to get a muscian perspective....Prince was an absolute professional his work ethic was lengendary, and he rehearsed for hours i saw him live a few times just like you mentioned in this video it was an experience.
Drums is probably Sheila E. I saw Prince with the "sign of the times" tour in Munich, think this is from the concert/movie of the same tour. The tickets said "wear something peach or black" :) Overall, probably the best concert i've seen in my life!
I wonder how many people knew the pain he and his wife suffered through while he kept everyone else happy. I know some of that had to come out in his music.
Saw him live several times. UNREAL. Like no other and NEVER the same. Each time was a life altering experience. There will never be another. You capture the essence of his performances well with your reactions and analysis. Keep up the good work bro.
You got to this one quicker than I thought you would. Thanks so much!!! I love that you pointed out his vocals. You’re right, they are often overlooked. My theory is that he was so good at so many things that it caused people to miss the greatness of each part. I mean, Rolling Stone initially left him off their greatest guitarists list, he’s not in the Song Writers HOF, etc. One of my favorite things about this song is that the backing vocals actually come before his lead vocals. When the SOTT album came out, I would play this song over and over and sing the different parts each time. That’s the great Boni Boyer on vocals there. I believe the drums were a loop for this song. Sheila E., Prince’s drummer on this tour was singing backup (she was the one who started laughing) on this song. Sheila is an amazing percussionist and drummer. I’ll have to request something with her for you to check her out. Really enjoyed your insight on this one and am looking forward to the next 💜💜💜
Thanks so much Jenn! This was definitely 🔥 and I loved his vocal performance on this tune! Prince is definitely bringing it on so many musical levels! Can’t wait to hear more! Have a great one! 😄
U REALLY won't appreciate this performance until or unless u hear the recorded version from,"Sign of the Times" album..Then u will love this version even more. Live performances by Prince always had 1 motto with them as once told by Jimmy Jam during a tv interview back in the day when he says that The Time were rehearsing for the tour with Prince and they were playing the song as it was recorded and he stopped them mid-song and told them,STOP! U HAVE TO DO BETTER THAN THE RECORD! And they changed the groove right there..Also he said it was not out of the norm for Prince to take your instrument and show u how he wanted songs to be played, like Jimmy Jam and his bass..He also said that it was honor and respect to have someone to do that and they could play your instrument even better than you can lol...
The man with the stethoscope is Dr. Fink. The rest of the Revolution had been let go by this time. This is a transitory Prince band between The Revolution and the New Power Generation which would start to coalesce as they discovered who was going to be staying. The saxophonist is also the same as before: Eric Leeds. Later on, by about the time of Batman, he was using Candy Dulfer on sax, but not yet. This album dropped in '87 and is one of his most loved, but genre-wise, it was a bit all over the place. It was the first OFFICIAL Prince album to have so many songs that it took 2 compact discs to put it on. This timeframe was about when the CD was still new, but most people were still buying cassette-tapes so of course, you know they had the cassettes and the vinyl records too, which would have also been more than one of. Dr. Fink was with Prince the longest of anyone other than I think Kirk Johnson, who was a background dancer and bodyguard/confidante of Prince, though some blame him for Prince's death, not directly, but indirectly.
The Doctor Matt Fink always dressed as a doctor. Princes blood type is C Sharp. This is cram a concert film. It was filmed live in Paris. He added overdubs in the studio so the audio is not 100% live
