Man, this is so fun watching you on this journey. As you discover ("His vocals! He can sing!") the breadth of his incredible talent, it's a joy to watch. I suspect you'll come to the same conclusion and see, ultimately, that Prince is a once-in-a-many-lifetime ball of talents. He is our Bach, our Beethoven. Yes, there's another great singers. Other great instrumentalists. Other great songwriters. Other great dancers. Other great composers. Other great performers. But there's nobody, NOBODY that put it all together like Prince. He blessed us for almost 40 years, with songs, albums and performances (sometimes more than 100 a year) and who knows how many more gems from the vault we don't even know about yet. Prince is the best.
Prince always let his band members shine their own talent on stage. He was generous in spirit but a hard task master, so his musicians were always at their best.
This had me dancing in my chair too--You understood the assignment! I'm so happy you are enjoy one of his live cuts. "Forever In My Life" is a classic and beloved jam among Prince fans. The studio (album) version is so great. Not your usual sounding 1980s love song. Amazing track.
I was there too! He cancelled his one and only show at Wembley Stadium, and I said that there’s no way that I’m going to miss this tour! Great memories, 🙏🏽💜👌🏽
That video is just 1 song from the Prince concert movie "Sign O The Times"...........you must watch it. It changed my life. The best hour & a half concert you'll ever see. There's more where that came from
Thank you so much for this, Luke. This song means so much to me and this performance in particular. So much so, I have the title tattooed on my upper arm. I have seen others react to this and they just don't get it! This is spiritual! I always say that you don't just hear Prince .... you feel him! This is just so damn great. A lot of people don't realise how amazing Princes voice was. Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson both had ranges around 4 to 4.5 octaves, Prince was close to 6 octaves. So just as a singer, he was head and shoulders above the rest. This performance is like going to church. Absolutely amazing how he transitions into the song 'It'. Yes there's 2 songs here. He starts by declaring absolute love and wanting to share his life with someone then moves into the song 'It' which is simply about sex, and him never being able to get enough of it with this person. This performance is so mesmerising with just very simple instrumentation. The lady vocalist is the wonderful Boni Boyer, RIP. She passed away of a brain aneurysm when she was still in her 30's...too sad! You need to watch the whole concert, it's truly fabulous. It's the 'Sign 'O' The Times concert movie'. The other ladies you refer to are of course Rosie Gaines and in the doc you mentioned it was the powerhouse Mavis Staples. He always had amazing female vocalists around him ... he loved the female voice. He always championed women musicians and performers. Sorry but I could write a book about my love and respect for this beautiful, amazing human being 💜
This is one of the reasons I was willing to go broke just to attend a Prince concert! Plus he never had any "opening act" and nearly 3hours of pure bliss from PRN!!!🎉🎉
False. For the Sign o the times tour, Madhouse was playing for the opening. I can tell, i was there in 1987. You can find live recording of madhuse opening on youtube, in germany show.
Glad you enjoy it! It's sooooo good!! And my Patreon Members are helping me with the guide - done 1978, 1979, JUST finished 1980 and Dirty Mind so will be looking at 1981 next week! Thanks for watching with me! 😃❤️
@@kayrobbie5840 oops, I stand corrected. It was the song played for their first dance at their wedding but he wasn’t there performing it. Mixed it up in my mind with him performing at the White House 🤦♀️

U have a l9ng way to go!!! Prince was incredible!!! Look also at his live award show concerts lol cause he can make one song into a CONCERT!!! RIP YOUR PURPLE ROYAL BADNESS 💜 😢
Another dope reaction. Shared w peeps. U got the funk aspect. Called Minnesota Funk, which was black people migrating to Minnesota in the 60's, from Mississippi, coming to the whitest town in America, called a vanilla market, no black radio, but black kids, who were musicians, playing along w rock music, but adding funk to the song. Prince often did that no matter the genre. One example is the extended version of "little red Corvette" you LL hear some funk in the middle of the record, though it's a pop rock song. History of that era: sign o the times material was revolution material, some in purple rain era, most post purple rain. He just taught the new band the songs. Though "I could never take the place of your man" was from 1981, and you can hear a similar melody in "when u were mine" which was 1980. This was initially going to be an international tour. Band s playing in an outdoor arena, in the rain, prince said keep playing, lightning hit the keyboard. He moved the filming inside, which became "sign o the times" film, taped in Paris and Paisley park. The recording engineer had to take 200 people from Paisley park and make them sound like 20,000. She said after she finished that, she never went back to watch it. From this era, u have to check out "For those of u on Valium" it's a 1987 rehearsal for this tour, should be on you tube "Sign o the times" concert film. High energy show Love sexy 1988 Germany, same band a year later. This is a hits show, played in medley form, different genres played. On you tube. Film and 88 show have a Sheila e drum solo
I was 13 when Sign "☮︎" the Times was released in 1987. I was 9 when his music hit me like an awakening. This particular part of the concert was interesting, in case you missed it, it was in parts emotional if you will. Prince and The Revolution had just disbanded and he was going through heartache from his breakup with his fiance. 'Forever In My Life' and 'It' were songs about her. The screaming that lead to him dropping the mic, wiping tears, and the band members kinda looking over at him with a bit concern was unscripted. The songs started a little playful but then got more dramatic 7:07 on your reaction video. While Bonnie took over the house, Prince was starting to cook and I think it just needed to come out. So if you go back and watch, now you know a little background. His friend Dr.Fink knew is was another magic moment. I don't have any recommendations but anything from Sign "☮︎" the Times you cannot go wrong. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Liv4luv 0(+->
Ahh thanks so much for detailing that! 😜 I am actually going through chronologically so I am sure I will get to that - I just reacted to his self titled 'Prince' album of 1979... wow!!! 💜
Fun react, good choice! RIP Boni Boyer, great vocalist! Sign of The Times/LoveSexy was a transition band to the NPG. He was getting less synth sounding and more acoustic, definitely more funky.
I’d just finished the video of Prince and scrolled down the page. Yeah, a James Brown moment there, but when I think in the pain in the throat singing like that... Ouch! I love this Sign O' The Times recording, I've lost count of how many times I've played it complete in my 20s. And the double vinyl album is in my Top 5.
