Cat Glover (whom we just lost last week, R.I.P.) choreographed the whole movie/concert, especially the dance sequences. Prince arranged and composed all of the music. R.I.P. to two legends. 💜
The GOAT, THE ICON... I saw him a lot of time in Paris. The sign of times tour was epic...a hurricane in my life. Shared with many of my friends. This album "sign of the Tims" is above all, the quintessence of music. But this GENIUS has created son many incredible moments... Empty room in Montreux, Creep in coachella, Purple Rain in Syracuse..;and so many others. The Best of all times !!!
Thanks for the reaction. The more often you see Prince, the more you understand him. Prince always knew exactly what he had to play with the guitar. You are absolutely right. Watch Prince‘s Creep version. U will like it I think
From the "Sign O' The Times" film, supposedly the original footage from Rotterdam wasn't up to standard so they had to do a series of grueling reshoots at Paisley Park to get what he envisioned. The "U Got The Look" video was shot on tape and edited in as a dream sequence.
@@setonhillstudiosSO true! That solo near the end is one of his most simplistic yet one of my favorites as well! Your explanation of that as a musician was AWESOME. Thanks bro!
Rotterdam concert footage was supplemented with stage shows at Paisley Park, especially for closeups. Prince added small vignettes between certain songs for storytelling. It was wonderful to see on the big screen when released in theaters.
Sign o the Times (the movie) is a live concert film with vignettes interwoven into the songs. The music was recorded live during his '87 European tour. Some concert footage was used, much of the performances (including the vignettes) were then filmed (in front of a live audience) at Paisley Park then woven in to create a story. Written & directed by Prince, it's widely considered to be one of the best concert movies ever made. It gives you a taste of what seeing him live is all about. I highly recommend you check it out.
💜PRINCE💜was in another League by himself to me creatively musically, emotionally , productively , originality , he just separated himself in my opinion , in anything you ever touched , produced , create or performed , and more than anything he was just way up ahead of his time🎯 💯 unfortunately we lost him way too early😢 🌹R.I.P.💜PRINCE💜🌹
You gotta check out his live performance in 1985 at Syracuse "Purple Rain"! I promise you will understand after watching, and will Never wanna hear any version but thst one! With the crowd work, to the vocals, to the guitar change, all the way to how he really makes the guitar sing for him! Its just Amazing! Also, everytime you watch it.... will feel like the 1st time you ever heard it!
I was at the sign of the times concert in Paris in the 80s when i was a kid and it was exactly as in the video!!!! But what i remember the most was that Prince NEVER played a song as in the recorded version and always sounded the same but DIFFERENT ❤❤❤❤ That guitar solo was epic if i were to remember correctly!!!!!! RIP THE GOAT!!!!!
That's from the movie, but everything on stage was pretty much the same live. My first concert ever, I was 14 years old at Frankfurt, Germany. A day I will always remember. Especially this song was so much better live, I was thrilled, when the movie came and I could rewatch it all. The downside of seeing Prince live at your very first concert is... there is nothing to top this experience 😅
Sign Of The Times was a major release Warner Brothers film to promote the tour for the album of the same name and to give the entire world a chance to also see the show. Prince didn't want to do another full on world tour, he'd already started feeling the physical affects of that workload and a decade of giving the audience 110% every night.
Another great reaction! Thank you so much! I love that you pointed out how Prince didn’t overplay. Sometimes I think that, along with his great skill in so many areas, is what kept him from getting the recognition he deserved as a great guitarist until more recently. He didn’t do things to show off his skills. He played what was warranted musically. I see that others have answered your questions about this film. Yes, some of it is live footage from the concert, but most of it was reshot at Paisley Park. There is a great video of outtakes. It’s long so I haven’t watched all of it yet myself, but here’s the link in case anyone wants to check it out. ruclips.net/video/JjrKo5IedP4/видео.htmlsi=rvDRVu-F5ogSvUHv Thanks again! 💜💜💜
I remember going to see this in the theater. To my knowledge he did not tour this album in the US so we only go to see the concert movie. I'm sure someone correct me if my memory is failing me.
You said it..he was able to feel the notes and knew when the music need space...the most important notes are you don't play. You meet the master between the two and four. That's for sure and a musicians rule and of course ...on the one funkyways...much purple love from germany honey. I am a girl (my husbands account) Peace and b wild!!! O(+>🎉❤ .
His backup dancer Kat who was acting alongside Prince in this video has been having some serious health issues recently. I hope she pulls through OK. Sign of the Times is part stage musical, part music videos, but all classic Prince. The stuff like this that is preformed live really shines as the bright spots.
My understanding is that a lot of it, obviously the dramatic vignettes but also the performances were staged and shot at Paisley Park for logistical reasons. There was a tour and it was these songs presented like this but most of what shows up in the movie was not filmed on the tour.
As others have touched on, the video is a mix of some concert footage from Europe, and his Paisley Park studio sound stage with the stage show recreated and with his hometown Minneapolis audience for the professional looking close up footage. However, If I'm not mistaken, there is no live music in this whatsoever, the whole audio was recorded in the studio and overdubbed on top of the video footage. That's why everything is so tight.
As I understand it most of the audio is from the soundboard from the two recorded European concerts and then there are some audio dubs put in later at Paisley Park. Maybe a bit more is from Paisley park but it is actually mostly live. I imagine it was pretty hard miming to audio that was recorded months earlier. If you look at the NYE show from later that year the live audio is just as good as this.
This is from a concert film that was in theaters. The screens were add latter back at Paisley Park along with overdubs. Prince had his in tailors for his cloths macking
His style of playing that you were describing is similar, to my untrained ears, as David Gilmour's style. Just the perfect note at the perfect time. But Prince can also shred, as you know, where David is not known for shredding in that sense. Don't misunderstand, I love Floyd and Gilmour. They're similar, but then they're not. Pretty sure I've never seen David move like Prince.
Had to be filmed live at Paisley Park because the original concert video and audio kinda didn't sound good enough. Audience is part of the Netherland crowdz.
Also, Warner Brothers did a terrible job of promoting the movie when it came out, probably because they were still feeling burned by the poor response to “Under The Cherry Moon” a year earlier. It was released through a smaller studio (Cineplex Odeon, I think?) and opened as a very limited release. I live in Tampa and it was shown on exactly one screen in the Tampa Bay region, where we had at least a dozen theaters at the time.

Prince just doing what Prince does! Absolutely loved this performance! Banger!!! 💜
The most elite performance ever recorded.
He can play every instrument on that stage. A TRUE original.
One of my alltime favorite guitar solos.
So amazing!! 💜

Prince Empty Room/Elixir live in Montreux 2009 would be a great performance to react to.
Another world class performance from one of the greatest artist’s most brilliant album!
12:20 that shot right there is unbeatable. The only true S class guitar god.
I miss him every day. He was able to do so much.

Prince was a beast on the guitar.

Absolute Genius
If you haven't seen it, you gotta react to Prince's solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps at the 2001 Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
That solo, that fucking great solo!

Great pop rock song from Prince which is from his 1987 album sign of the Times. However,he first recorded it back in 1979 and stored it away!
Truth be told the majority of this movie sigh of the times was filmed at Paisley Park studio's
I listen to this amazing man every day while I exercise. I've loved him since the early 80's.
Great reaction !!! I'm here for more Prince.

Ur memory is correct. He didn’t tour it in the U.S.
Saw it in a theater as well.

I believe a lot of the time the audio is from the European concerts.
I don’t think CC’s reacting to Prince understand he WAS music…it flowed through him effortlessly…like water. A modern day Amadeus…a “Sage.”💜🕊️
