Prince has done it again! Every time he takes the stage it’s all eyes on Prince, but Maceo Parker made that sax sing!
When you see Maceo Parker tearing into Pass the Peas, and then realize that he's only the second most funky guy on the stage, you know you're in for a treat. Mad respect for Ida Nielsen, Prince's bass guitarist. Funkiest woman alive.
She is outrageously good
Maceo Parker is a LEGEND! He played with James Brown (The JBs), Bootsy Collins, Living Color, Keith Richards, Parliament, Ryuichi Sakamoto, George Clinton (not that b*st*rd, the holy musician), DeeeLite, Bryan ferry...
he was with Prince regularly since the 90s.
Who hasn’t chanted “Maceo! We want you to blow!”😁
Maceo brought the funk everytime he played. Please check out "Prince - Joy In Repetition - Greatest Guitar Solo Of All Time!" It was on the "One Nite Alone ... The Aftershow: It Ain't Over" you will not be disappointed. L41A !
Oh, you not knowing who Maceo is made me sad! Growing up, I didn't know the names of James Brown's band members but I knew Maceo. I strongly recommend that you listen to Cold Sweat Parts 1 & 2. Maceo also played with Parliament/Funkadelic.
Prince 's live performances were epic. More Prince.
All of them I’ve seen are absolutely epic! Definitely going to be doing more for sure!
" Oh, so he is a Sax player " oh YES he is!!!!!
He was killer! An absolute beast 🔥
@@setonhillstudios He was still touring in recent years and is now 81 years old, so I'd say he still IS killer!
Pass the Peas" is a 1972 funk instrumental from the JB's
Gotcha! Thanks for the info and hanging out!
“Pass the Peas” is from James Brown’s band - The JB’s
pls react to Prince "its gonna be a beautiful night" live he has a great drum solo & lit dance moves in it! Loved this reaction 🤗
Oh wow, I bet that’s incredible! Definitely have to check it out
@@setonhillstudios you can check in this line "America" live.
Prince was a huge fan of James Brown and Sly and the Family Stone. Prince loved Maceo Parker from James Brown’s band (James was always yelling Maceo’s name and letting him solo). Prince also loved Larry Graham from Sly’s band. The concept of the New Power Generation (NPG) was to have the best of the best musicians (especially his idols) whenever he could include them.
Such a great concept and so cool of Prince to include all his idols! I bet they were having the time of their life!
Maceo was with James Brown he’s the one they threw the cape on jb he’s a awesome saxophonist
Welcome to The Purple World. Great reaction !
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the video!
I’ll bet Maceo didn’t like his outfit here. He probably didn’t like his costumes with Parliament/Funkadelic either. He was a suit and tie gentleman.
My sweet lord-what a juggernaut he was.
He really was! Truly a unique talent, we may never see another like him!
Great suggestion, Jenn! 💜
Great reaction! Mr. Maceo played with the JBs, James Brown's band. The slap bass style originated with Larry Graham, who played with Prince a few years and originally was with Sly's Family Stone band. Original Pass The Peas is from the JBs. Prince definitely draws your focus! Thank you!
Thank you for hanging out! Definitely an incredible performance and phenomenal artist! Prince is ONE OF A KIND and his music will live on forever!
The noise in the background was a siren.
The bassline he played was from a song he wrote for Morris Day and the Time, 777-9311.
He also played the hook or melody line for America, from his Around the World in a Day album. There's a live performance of the song on RUclips, dated October 1985 in Paris. I'll warn you once, STRAP IN!!!
Sweet, thanks for the info and suggestion!
Maceo is James Brown saxophone player
Prince always gave the spotlight to others on stage and gave them time to shine. Prince was talented in lots of areas. He was a great dancer, basketball and ping pong player. Dave Chappell did a skit about his basketball playing and there is audio of Prince talking to a DJ confirming that the story was true. Jimmy Fallon tells a really funny story about playing ping pong with Prince. There is a story by one of his band mates about a group of them going bowling. Prince just observed the others playing. He eventually joined them and was really good. Apparently he would study how something was done and run it through his head before doing it.
That’s wild! Such a talented dude whose music will live on forever! Thanks for sharing and hanging out! 😁
Beast mode. Peerless, played effortlessly and who looks as cool as Prince playing bass. Maceo played with James brown
Ah ok, that’s awesome! And I don’t know of anybody looking as cool as Prince doing anything!
To understand this you gotta get into some James Brown, Maceo played with him and then check out The Time, and then more PRINCE. It's a cologe of music going on there.
This is a James Brown song. Macro was in Jame’s band.
Maceo is truly an excellent musician (it's not just hype...)
RIP John Blackwell
This was the Paris Stadium show in 2011. Amazing show.
Appreciate the info! He is such a killer artist!
Maceo isn't "a sax player", he's one of THE sax players : he played with James Brown, Parliament/Funkadelic, Deee-Lite, Prince and so many others. A legend. I think his outfit for a concert in Paris is a tribute to another legendary saxophonist, Manu "Soul Makossa" Dibango who was beloved in France not only because of his musical talent but also his incredibly nice character and the way he talked in a cool, wise and witty way.
Prince bass solo begins with The Time "777-9311" (the phone number of one of his former guitar player who had to change his phone number afterward, prince has always been a prankter!), a song His Royal Badness wrote and played all the instruments on the studio version, including an otherworldly drum machine programming.
16:07 You're spot-on : Prince was also a MC, he also used to conduct his band like a classical orchestra except it was to change elements (rhythm, instruments, vocals) on the fly or to switch in a flash from one song to another. He also knew Paris audience is quite peculiar : whatever the show (concert, boxing of UGC event), as long as the stage is hot people are more than willing to put more fuel into the fire.
Thanks for all the info! Absolutely loved this performance! So EPIC! 🔥
Thank you for doing this performance! I’m so happy you loved it as much as I do. I think you were left a little speechless there 😂 Prince can do that to a person. He was certainly one of a kind. Loved your reaction 💜💜💜
Yea he really did leave me kind of fumbling for words 🤣 thanks again for your generosity, loved this one!
That noise in the background is his siren, CALL THE POLICE, I'M TOO FUNKY lol. I don't know if you reacted to Prince's Play That Funky Music/Hollywood Swinging/ Fantastic Voyage. It was after a full concert and was encore #3 out of 4 encores. Totally mind blowing 💜💜
James Brown horn section!!!
Gotcha!
Maceo Parker is a legend. Part of the James Brown Band part of the horny horns. Tear the roof off the sucker make my funk the P-Funk flashlight and others. That opening riff was sampled by many. Most notably overweight lovers in the house
Awesome! Thanks for the info, much appreciated!
Prince4ever💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🇧🇷
Maceo Parker used to play for James Brown
Macro Parker played backup for James Brown for years. He learned his style from the best. Check out some James Brown videos. I saw Maceo Parker about 6 or 7 years ago. STILL THE BEST OUT THERE.
Awesome, would love to check some out!
Jamming is a lost srt form in popular so-called music artists. When youre jamming, you can go HOURS effortlessly bc you love the art of it.
Prince would frequently jam on stage, which gave you a feeling like no other bc its just about the enjoyment of the music together. Even many of his studio cuts have extended versions that feature an insane jam session.
So true! I bet some of those cuts are killer!
Check out his rehearsal for Ballad of Dorothy Parker/Four and any of his rehearsal recordings and extended recordings. You'll find treasures that his released studio recordings can't compare to. His gave you plenty of reason to come to his concerts bc you had absolutely no idea of what he was going to do, but you knew it wasn't going to be a simple replay of what you heard any studio recording!
I have found one of many playlists containing 50 extended versions that demonstrate Prince's propensity to jam on his recordings. Check it out here: ruclips.net/p/PLTSyx1lIPTooW_rWVTQUtB48sVA418U0_&si=Mpst8NKilKP5MVEa
@@SlimDaddy9 Thanks so much!!! Really appreciate you!
You were born in the RUclips era, You've never heard the LEGENDARY Mr. James Brown, call out for Maceo. I saw Prince, and Maceo, one night in San Jose. WOW. You should check out Fred Wesley. LOL, Fred Wesley, and the J.B.'s, Pass the Peas, LOL.
Come on man, I know we all have our background story but you can't have a musical channel and not know who Maceo Parker is ! ^^
He was James Brown's main sax player and part of the JB's together with Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis. "Pass The Peas" is a JB's standard from 1972.
Maceo also played with Parliament/Funkadelic and he has many solo albums. He started playing live with Prince I believe in 2002 for the One Nite Alone tour. You have to check that one. Then he joined him regularly and was full part of the group during the 2004 Musicology Tour that went all accross the US.
Man, you gotta know Maceo !
Well I got room to grow and learn for sure! He is amazing as is the whole band! Thanks for watching!
@@setonhillstudios That's great, man. By the way I was at this Prince concert in Paris. That was out of this world...
@@3ver4fter53 Shewee! I bet it was EPIC for sure! 🔥
@@setonhillstudios Please check out the 1992 live album "Live On Planet Groove" by Maceo Parker, together with Pee Wee Ellis on trumpet and Fred Wesley on Trombone. Together they were James Brown's horn section, Fred Wesley being his musical director. Some of the best ol school funk ever recorded.
Also check out "Shake everything you've got" on RUclips, from the documentary "My name is Maceo". Also by these 3 guys.
PLEASE CHECK OUT "LIFE ON PLANET GROOVE" by Maceo Parker
Awesome! Thanks so much! 😁
Dude, you don’t know who Maceo is? The JB Horns man. You’ll be telling me you don’t know who Clyde Stubblefield or Bootsy Collins next
I’ve heard the names, but not familiar with them at all. Looks like I’ll have to check them out!
PLEASE PLEASE CHECK OUT BOOTSY COLLINS AND LARRY GRAHAM. WHILE THEY ARE STILL LIVING ❤
Guitar players check out Bootsie Collins and Larry Graham. Bootsie played behind James Brown as well as Maceo Parker
Awesome!
You're talking like if he were still alive on this earth.
There is a better version of this. :) Agree with below, Prince is the greatest artist of the 20th Century. Want video suggestions to react to, see my page (want good videos shown, don't care about hits to my page).
Did you just say you “Never heard of Maceo?!” What’s next, “Who’s this James Brown fella?” God help you and your Channel my friend. 😂
Always got room to learn 🤷🏻♂️
I’m offended you didn’t know who Maceo Parker was
Can’t know everything 🤣 why be mad somebody discovered someone you clearly like?
ruclips.net/p/PL1RRNXldMeREaw-_Z6-oFp-C0-iivW1jm&si=oOKBI7Tek1zKaVIO this is good but the original stuff . 👍🏽
Did this guy just roll out of bed,, saw a video in his feed with Prince and mayo parkers name on it. And just decide to make a video about it? What is the point of reviewing the song or the performance,, Without doing your homework about the original creators of the song. Or the artist that are covering the song? This is a perfect opportunity to educate the people that watch your videos,,, about the artist and the music.
What’s the point in showing up to someone’s channel and trying to tell them how to run it? This was a donation request from a viewer to blind react to this song because I had never heard it and they wanted me to hear more Prince. Not gonna research and learn all about it if I’m supposed to be hearing it for the first time. Purpose of the video is to react and analyze not provide a comprehensive education ✌🏼
Well said ❤
Clearly a pro shot concert, “Hey P Estate”, get off your ass and get us some of these shows on DVD or streaming of something instead reissuing PR every effing year!!!
What a waste of a site!!
