      I have a feeling even if she could afford it she is too smart to put her money into a million dollar house that she doesnt plan on living in forever. Which is fantastic to see. Mortgages are no joke and there are 18 year olds with million dollar homes, I can only picture a channel dying off and their RUclips career is falling apart and they are stuck with a million dollar house they cant afford to pay for anymore. 🤦🏼‍♀️

    My biggest piece of advice is use the vertical space as much as possible. You have such beautiful high ceilings! The ikea Pax wardrobe unites go up to 96 inches (ish) and are a life savor for extra storage. If you can afford it, a Murphy bed/couch combo is awesome - makes your place feel like a living space during the day and a bedroom at night. Have so much fun moving in and decorating!

    • @kateg92
      @kateg92 5 лет назад +1

      Yes!!! I have the pax wardrobe and it literally saved my life when I lived in my studio! With hanging space and shelves. I also bought the 6 cube storage and put it long ways and its perfect for additional clothes, towels, linen etc with the foldable material "boxes" in it! I've moved twice since I bought both and the wardrobe is still so so convenient.

    Please please please put your desk in that little 49 inch nook and not in the middle of the wall so it's not the focal point of the room... then in the middle of the wall get a small loveseat/couch with a rug underneath and a small coffee table. Maybe get a different bed frame (I think a daybed would be nice, because they take up less space and are like having a second couch).

    Definitely get some over toilet storage! My bathroom in my apartment is so inconvenient and poorly designed but once I got the storage unit to go above the toilet it changed my life. It sounds so stupid but I was so frustrated with it and then it became so much better and relieved so much stress. But anyway yay! Congrats on the new place and the new chapter!!

  • @OhManItsHann

    Definitely recommend over the door hooks/storage as well as an over the toilet one! I have 5 over the door in mine lol, 4 with regular hooks for coats, bags, bulky sweaters, etc., and one with bars in my bathroom so that I have somewhere to hang my towel! It's definitely an adjustment getting everything organized in a small space, but moving things in/buying stuff in stages definitely helps so that you're not overwhelmed with where to put everything at once

    They sell door organizers that you can screw into the door. Also with your top shelf i would get those stackable drawer organizers or add another shelf if you can. Definitely under the bed storage. But find furniture that has multiple functions to maximize space and storage.

  • @Lau3464l
    @Lau3464l 5 лет назад +1

    You should definitely get a second rod for your closet! You can get a clothing rod that hangs on hanger/hook things from your existing rod to create a lower level! And my friend who lives in a NY studio has one of those over-the-toilet shelving racks that she puts over her heating unit! So that way the heat can circulate but then she can use the space above it for storage! And ikea makes super narrow bathroom cabinets as well as storage carts and drawer units so you could definitely take advantage of all the tiny spaces like in the bathroom etc! I've been watching since you were in high school, I can't wait to follow your journey to NY! :) xoxo

  • @kbl55429

    You should think about getting a loft bed. And in your kitchen you should put floating shelfs on that wall and maybe think about putting your microwave above the fridge and use that cutout as more storage. Well that’s what I would do, just some suggestions.

  • @SMile-ce1zd
    @SMile-ce1zd 5 лет назад +1

    You should try your bed coming out from the bumped out wall with the radiator. That way you can use all the drawers and it takes up less wall space. Then you might be able to put a love seat under the window and a tall dresser on the wall next to the bed by the kitchen

  • @mrs_danie_boo
    @mrs_danie_boo 5 лет назад +4

    I know you already have a bed but it would be kinda cute if you get a sofa bed and use the dresser as a TV stand. And a mini table on the mini 49" wall.

    I moved into my apartment Jan 4th- 1. Because it was a new year and 2. Because it was just a few days after my birthday. I moved in on my own and literally the best feeling has been me just coming home and realizing that I’m doing this living on my own thing and that the space is mine and that I’m doing okay and I love it. It’s almost August and it feels like just yesterday. A lot of folks say renting is dead money but I really don’t care- living on your own is an experience and how you feel about having your own space is priceless. Watching your videos lately reminds me of how excited I was and just how much I love the journey . You’d be fine and it’s going to be great! So excited and happy for you, can’t wait for vlogs to coommmeeeeeeee !

  • @nessawoods3005
    @nessawoods3005 5 лет назад

    For the space I have a few suggestions, I say sell the bed you have and get the ikea day bed with storage, so it serves a few purposes, it can a)obviously be a bed but b) if you put it with the back against the wall by the door you’ll have a couch thing as well as a bed and it has drawers so you have some extra space, and then you can either sleep with it in the twin/full size or it pulls out to be the bigger size. The next thing I would recommend would be to then in front of it get a lift top coffee table because then you could have something that when sitting is table height and it has storage underneath, and put felt pads on the coffee table so it can slide easily if you want the bed to be pulled out. Then in the corner with out the heater put your mirror and mount it to bring the eye up. I definitely agree with everyone on using the vertical space, you have great high ceilings use them. And then put your desk under the window and if you still feel like you need a dresser get a little one or one of the 6-cube organizers from target for $30 and put it on the popped out section of the wall so the you can use it as both a dresser with the boxes that you can buy as well as a place for decor or a tv unit. Those are my suggestions for make a small place a that can feel like a living room during the day and a bedroom at night.

      I've seen some apartments their for a 1 bedroom be $2500 a month... so since its a studio it could be about the same or slightly less. But NYC is known for being an expensive city though. But I guess people can make it work for them if you find a good deal on a place like she found. You have to get what's right for you though. Same here! I'd love to move their for a while someday too.

    Buy steel wool (you can find them in discount stores) or steel wool pads and stuff them into any open holes you see especially around your radiator and under the kitchen sink. You want to keep out any rodents. If you have large open areas your landlord should close them up. Also set some roach baits. Just for prevention. Sanitize everything esp the kitchen and bathroom. Don’t get into the trap of going to all of the trendy grocery stores. Target, dollar tree is great for cleaning supplies, etc. Good luck and congrats!!!

  • @707Bubby
    @707Bubby 5 лет назад

    I know you already have a bed and so you probably wouldn't get a new one, but something I thought of was getting a Murphy bed, (or even DIYing a Murphy bed like situation) that way you can really convert the space between bedroom and into more living room/dining space, especially if you want people over every now and then, because your apartment is so small. When I was in college the residence hall I was in had Murphy beds in our apartments, and I was going to art school so I really needed space to get work done and having a murphy bed made it really easy to just wake up, make my bed and put it up so that it took up like 1/6 of the space it did before and I got all my floor space back, to not feel so cramped, but also still got to have a double bed and enjoy that aspect.

  • @delaneypoitras

    A shelf above the toilet (bed bath and beyond has them) is PERFECT for small bathrooms! Also maybe try to put your microwave on top of your fridge instead and use that leafy wallpapered space for other storage. You have a great space so I know you're gonna make it work!! So for clothes storage in the closet of the landlord is ok with it( I did this in my last place) raise the shelf and the bar to the top. Plus section off one small side for longer dresses and then spilt the other side to hang tops and pants like a t-shape. It’s was only about $200 to do on my own. I used the closet maid system ( which you can order online and customize to fit. you only need a drill. I left it behind and the landlord was totally fine with it cause it was a free improvement for them lol. I lived there for 3 years so the investment was totally worth it

I can't wait to watch your New York City vlogs Kristee ✨ Also maybe for the closet you could put a command hook on it (on the door), and get a hanging shoe storage thing with a hanger already on it. So that way it's not a over the door one. Those have always worked pretty well for me. Sometimes you can easily put them in closets on the clothing rod/rack too. ✨

    i used to live in a teeny studio apartment in toronto - highly recommend checking out all the small space info on apartment therapy's website; and find ways to divide the space whether that's putting a couch in the middle of the room, a book shelf divider, a curtain - helps make it feel like multiple spaces. make use of the walls and the tall ceilings and make sure to build things upwards - tall shelves, hooks, etc. don't be afraid of big furniture or making it your own with art/plants/travel souvenirs. nothing is impossible with a small space!

    i love continuing to follow your life’s journey! i’ve been around since you were in high school, and i’m so proud of everything you’ve done since then! i’m that chick that has commented countless times that we would totally be friends in real life, because you’re so similar to me lol. congrats on your first NY apartment!!! this is so exciting and i can see the glow all over your face! :)

    A släkt bed from Ikea with the storage underneath would be a good idea, you can have all your clothes there so you wouldn’t need a dresser! That would save a lot of space!

    kristee! fellow oregonian in new york here. you should definitely consider getting another trash can for your kitchen with a locked lid and save the trash can that's installed in the cabinet for recycling. trash cans without lids are not good if you're trying to keep pests out! i've had much better success with a lidded trash can :)

    I love it! You'll never forget your first place in NYC! I love that this is more like what moving to NYC is realistically like- a tiny, older, apartment, but all that you need. You'll really appreciate getting that experience. Good luck with moving in! You should check out LilyLike, she actually used to live in DC but now I think moved to LA. She had a tiny studio in DC and really made it beautiful and unique, it would be good inspiration! You actually have a bigger kitchen than I would have expected in a studio like that and a full sized fridge is so nice! I have the same cabinet situation, but honestly living on my own it has only taught me to just keep on hand what I need.

    Wow this is so exciting!! I’m moving on Thursday to a bigger city area alone, but I’m so excited about my apartment! I can’t wait to thrift and upcycle a ton of my stuff... I’m even thinking about starting a channel about it lol. You have such a cute little studio I’m obsessed!

    Also get someone to cut a piece of wood larger than your sink so you can use that as a large cutting board without losing counter space

    Command hooks can hold the behind the door show organizers. I have a show organizer in every room of my house (bathroom, bedroom, and nursery)

    I have a really cute blush pink chair from world market called the tyley chair that would look so cute in that corner with a little marble side table and maybe like a pouf or something! It’s still available on their website and comes in other colors!

    This is so exciting! I still remember when you moved into your first college dorm and how exciting it was and now you have this cute studio all to yourself in a new place! I have loved watching your journey and I can't wait for the next installment to see how you're decorating and placing stuff. I would suggest definitely using your high ceilings to your advantage and installing some kind of storage above (if your landlord lets you), so that you're using the space to its full potential since there isn't a lot of storage and floor space. Also a clothing rack might be something you could look into, if you think it might be able to fit somewhere. And it could also be a cute aesthetic :)

    Girl go on amazon and look up mounted desks and tables. They fold up into itself and you can hang them to the wall. Maybe for that corner with the sectional you could mount a table to the wall instead of using floor space. Get creative, I love looking at tiny living space ideas.

    I feel like the wall you said was your nook should be for your dresser and the longer wall should have a small love seat and your desk can be office desk and dining? Idk lol...I'm excited to see you set it up

    Can you paint in there? I am not sure you would want to, but I think it would be cool to paint in between the molding on the wall for a fun pop of color! Congrats on your new apartment!!

    That seems to be just the lease. They should be sending you a thicker envelope with what's basically a resident handbook. I suggest you read that because your neighbors sometimes come up with wildest things.
