    Goodnight Punpun is more than a story for me. It feels moreso like an experience than anything and I think that’s what makes it so entrancing to some people.

    ****SPOILERS***
    the saddest scene in the entire manga is seared into my brain and its the first panel we find out aiko hung herself. she is almost invisible. blended into the clutter of the background. my gut wrenched as i finally saw her. i sat in stunned shock wanting to cry but unable to. i don't think I'll forget that panel any time soon

    I'm really not sure how to feel about this manga. I enjoyed reading it and was actually looking forward to reading it every day which doesn't happen often. But I feel like the lasting impression it left on me wasn't what it... should have been?
    First of all, I went in knowing basically nothing about Punpun. All I knew was that it was really good and that it made people cry. That with the little bird made me think "Oh so this is gonna be pretty wholesome!" Yeah, that went away the first time Punpun jacked off lmao. Still though, I enjoyed what Punpun actually was. It heavily impacted me emotionally. It had me genuinely think about what I was doing with my life. I pretty much just don't cry at fictional stories across any medium, but Punpun got me really close several times.
    My biggest issue was the ending. For a manga like Punpun I was expecting a strange ending, and it definitely was strange. But it left me feeling absolutely nothing. It was just "Oh, that's it. Okay." It felt like it just... ended.
    Truthfully, I probably just didn't get it. To be honest I'm a little bit stupid and these kinds of deep stories are hard for me to take in further than two steps beyond surface level. I did try though. I thought about Punpun with a lot more depth than I do with pretty much everything else I've watched or read. That made reading it really special. But it felt like the ending didn't have anything to take away or think about. When the ending doesn't give me anything to think about and I already feel like I "sufficiently" thought about the rest of the series, it makes it really forgettable to me.
    This turned into a super long ramble that sort of went nowhere, but hopefully someone is procrastinating hard enough to read all of it and maybe say something. I'd like to know what other people think of the ending.

      @mugenbop  Год назад +1

      I think your feelings about the series is fine, pun pun never really tells you how to feel. When you get to the ending and your like “okay that’s it” I think it’s because life is like that where things just end. Not everyone has the perfect ending or one with closure sometimes, for some people they will weep others will get mad or be amicable for it

    I like punpun but it’s so overrated at this point, the average Home and away episode also has some rape and murder in it, it shows anxiety In interesting ways and the way he traced environments is fun to study but storyline wise it’s one of his weaker works start to finish

      @jauja I've watched it twice now, how do you assume it's meant to change my own opinion on a 15 year old series?
