'papa" being gone for two days after telling the little girl that there are "monsters" who sound like people is so dark. he was probably refferring to police officers or something along those lines. that implies that he was gone because the police were onto him... meaning that the little girl might've been so close to being found. that's probably why he told her to be so quiet too. I know it's just a game, but it has real life implications. seeing something this traumatic through the eyes of an innocent child while being grown and knowing that stuff like this can actually happen is a really awful feeling. real life monsters are scarier than anything imagined. i'm curious about what happens if she stops taking the pills. though a big part of me really doesn't want to know.
It's likely an equally horrific ending, considering what he does when she's asleep. She'd be awake that night instead and that means.....well I don't want to think about how the dev would have portrayed anything after that. Maybe she gets saved though b/c not taking the pills would awaken her to the situation possibly. Hence the title "My eyes deceive"
somehow the fact that mark kept checking the stair area every time between writing in the diary and going to bed, made that ending so so much worse.... checking every night for monsters, only for the monster to strike while you're sleeping.
To those still not getting it: The character is a young girl, trapped in a basement. Papa is lying to her about monsters making her not want to leave the basement. He also lies about the monsters using human voices so she wouldn’t call for help or talk if another voice was heard. The pills are a sedative that makes her sleepy. It is implied papa waits for her to be knocked out from the pills and then rapes her. Leaving food on the table for her the next day. In the end she becomes pregnant. 147 days is well into the 2nd trimester when a pregnant belly would be big and round.
wrong to those who don't get it the pills actually was not sedatives antidotes and the reason her belly was so round and big was not because of the antidote but rather because of the apple
@PlaneMusic46294 yes surely roblox wouldn't allow scary, creepy, or generally mature games like this one onto their platform edit: why is literally no one picking up on the sarcasm
The fact that mark said “you have to trust those closest to you” really presents the worst part of this situation. Children don’t know. This is all the victim knows.
ikr, the game really did a good job of encapsulating the limited world view of children. like when we play games we don’t necessarily assume that logic would follow the real world, and so it was so easy for me to assume that there was an actual apocalypse going on as a child would.
I mean, it's not like this is a child-specific phenomenon. There are a lot of people who act like they know everything and/or delude themselves into actually believing it. If you read that and thought "this doesn't affect me", you're more susceptible to it as well People are just weird like that
I am a child. but yet somehow i still know long story short the player got pregnant and the "papa" was no "papa" and the whole monster thing was a lie. and this isn't based off of one true story, its based on many of the same situation that happened in real life. truly screwed up.
*alternate ending* if you choose to not take the pills, you pretend to fall asleep after talking with papa. he enters the room and you hear a belt unbuckling. After a moment, he leaves abruptly. you then get up, and escape the basement after papa forgets to close it. you find receipts for a bunch of strong sedatives(your pills) and a police report saying that papa was questioned but dismissed due to insufficient evidence. you then escape out the back door and see the sun for the first time :(
One small thing that really freaks me out is that the only things in the game that don’t have a meter to complete is talking to papa and sleeping. Papa usually talks first meaning he controls when it happens and due to the drugs the child takes, sleeping is probably the easiest part of her day which makes it even more sad to learn that her father was abusing her while she felt safe and comforted
One of the obvious hints nudging us towards what this game is about is the fact that the food arrives when the father was apparently not there, meaning that the pills are supposed to knock you out, and then he comes down during the night. What made me realize what he was actually doing was the ending, instilling fear to keep you in check.
I was deeply, deeply hoping that this wasn't what was happening and it was some kind of hecked up, extremely morally corrupt biological experiment like you see in sci-fi horror. As twisted as even that idea is, it was definitely wishful thinking on my part, because the reality hurts worse.
btw this is based on a true story. its not entirely the same, but there as a woman who a father locked in a basement. the woman knew about the outside, she was a normal woman, but he raped her, got her pregnant, and forced the woman to raise the children in the basement. the children in the basement never got to see the light of day and had to learn everthing about the world from whatever the man brought into the basement for them. the man was eventually caught and the children were freed. they live normal lives (or at least as normal of a life you can live after experiencing that kind of trauma) today but the childrens' identities are secret for their own good. also the super narrow cork walls are a clear reference to the real basement from this case
the sad thing is it was his own daughter he kidnapped. he held her captive in his own basement and literally impregnated his own daughter :(. the mom never knew her own daughter was in her basement in a secret room. she just thought she ran away.
@@maddy_eliz1904 exactly. this also might be a little bit insensitive of me, but i've always been suspicious of the mom. i find it really hard to believe that she was completely oblivious to her own husband spending so much time and taking so many random things down into the basement and never having the curiosity to see what he was doing or where he was going. or that she never caught him. i know i have no proof of this, and if the mom really didn't know, i feel incredibly sorry for her, but i do think it is a possibility she knew, but she was able to get away with it because there was no evidence that she knew.
It makes so much sense that Papa said, “they mimic people and sound just like them.” So if he got caught in the act, he could just run away, lock the cellar, wait till morning, and be like “that wasn’t me? What?!”
its because hes locked her in the basement and if anyone comes round, police, social services or anyone, she will think its monsters and wont make a sound
@controlledbyadhd1647 31:55 but he also said it in a slightly different way at the end of his commentary from 27:13 to 29:16 (but I like his thoughts about choice and meaning so I left it longer)
This indeed hit very hard, as I had to put my cat down a couple of days ago, and today I agonized a lot about whether maybe it was the wrong decision, what if there was a way to prevent this or some other factor that if only I'd known, things would be different, etc. Now I just wanted to watch something as a distraction, and here comes Mark casually dropping oddly specific advice. Incredible timing.
All the stories that 'papa' was telling our protagonist is literal hints. Such as the 'scary monsters he hid and ran from' were possibly the police that inspected the house and asked questions, asking when we would go to sleep or we feel tired is that so he is assured that the 'antidote' which are figured as sedatives are working, the password that papa gave us which was Apple, "its best when their fresh" was an reference to child SA. (I think.) Not only that, but when we are watering our plants. The context "Keep growing, little plant." Or whatever, is an supposed to be referenced to the baby in the protagonists belly that is growing. And finally, "Why is my belly so round and big?" Is an symptom of pregnancy.
@@dinerodinero4388 OP should have said the belly being round and big is a symptom of pregnancy, instead of making it seem like asking questions is a symptom of pregnancy.
Jeez... what a game. Not so fun fact: This game is (supposedly) based on real-life events, which is terribly devastating a child had to go through that. Possible references: - The plants. "Grow big and strong, little one" was said by her because she wouldn't grow 'big and strong' like them. Her life would be ruined eventually and, with such poor self-care and nutrition, she still takes her energy to give food to the plants. (I'm surprised the plants weren't dead after 147 days as they need sunlight) - The apple. Someone else said this in an earlier comment so I want to give it some more spotlight. In greek mythology, offering an apple to someone means you want to be their partner. If accepted, well... yea. Worst of all she was even asked to 'try' the apple. - The big Os in the diary. There's a (big) conversation going on in the most liked comment, so I'll leave that for you. - The chains. So in the last nightmare of the girl, we see chains around the rooms. In the other ending (which I will try not to spoil entirely), we see the girl walking around a labyrinth, breaking chains. Chains are a symbol for freedom, especially when broken. In the other ending, she is breaking the chains, resulting in, yes, freedom. In this ending, however, we see the chains are not broken, meaning she will, and probably never, be free. - Staircases. Same thing, freedom. Like the saying, 'stairway to heaven'. The environment around the girl in her nightmares is red, you could say hellish, as we proceed deeper and deeper into the game. Sign of no freedom. I feel like the multiple stairs appearing in one of the nightmares was a sign to the girl that there could be a way towards freedom, which we see in the other ending. If she chooses wrong (take or don't take the pills), the staircases no longer appear. I'm honestly glad a game like this was made. It showcases a lot of awareness towards topics that are unseen by any, like sexual child abuse. It usually goes unnoticed, and it is the child that suffers, mentally and physically. It's utterly depressing that a child at 7 year old has a baby to take care of. The 'papa' might even leave her, which makes her alone, and that is what she is most scared of. Imagine how hard it would be for a child to take care of a child so young. Children are vulnerable, therefore they are the easiest to be taken advantage of. If you're going through anything similar to this, please, I beg you, find help. Talk to someone. Anyone you trust and know you can trust. You don't deserve to be treated that way. No one does.
I think this game is based of the Elisabeth Fritzl case. Its a real case and its about how Elisabeth was locked in her fathers basement for around 24 years and she was forced to give birth. Hope that helps
My first thought was that that kid had a weak immune system and so had to stay in a sort of quarantine. It was only after Mark starting asking about where and how the food was getting into there that I started to think it might be something else. Then I realized there isn't a wardrobe but the kid has everything else you need to live and suddenly the idea of something darker going on started to creep in. You realize its a girl from the drawings and that comment at the end just brought it all together. Just goes to show you don't need blood or gore to make something truly horrifying.
I didn't realize until the very end and looked in the comments what the ending was about. Now I just want to puke. The worst part is I was eating while watching this, my appetite is gone.
It was the fact that each day was only really a minute long, and the immediate "are you feeling sleep" every time that was making me worry it could be something darker and a deeper meaning.

I’ve just realised that when papa says to never trust other peoples voices and to not let them find you he was actually talking about the police investigating the house…… I’m gonna go cry now
I quickly clued into the true nature of this immediately after the first conversation with papa. Either there really is monsters outside, or the father's keeping the kid captive while trying to stop her from escaping. But then, why would he give her an iPad? Doesn't it have an internet connection? I guess not, but why take the risk?
@@theblackwidower I think it's an older style tablet tbh, I think it was Blackberry that had the option to disable all things related to internet back in the day.
I think what gets me the most about the moment with the bad ending is Mark's reaction to it. There's no over the top reaction, he doesn’t start yelling and flipping out, he just stands there in silent shock as he reads the words and realises what happened. You can tell just by the way he looked how he was feeling, just the clear shock, sadness and horror. It's one of the most raw reactions I've seen anyone have over a games ending and I really appreciate how respectful he was when talking about the ending. As much as I have lot of issues with how the game handles it's subject matter, I really respect that Mark didn’t make jokes about it like others did
“They’re best when they’re fresh.” I swear to god that made my whole body feel goosebumps because I knew the context of the game. Watching many gameplays on this game makes you catch on so many details.
@@yumenoslove By "They're best when they're fresh" the father basically is saying "They're best when they're young" which could be related to the situation since the "Father" is a p3do. If you know the story on what the "father" is doing then you'll understand it more so yeah.
18:14 i’m not too sure if anyone pointed it out, but the text switching from “wait for papa” to “wait for father” made me feel more uneasy then the jumpscare did.
Wow, Mark's reaction to this game's end part is so different to how he reacted to Presentable Liberty. There he did not even hesitate on the prospect of escaping/breaking out of the cycle. But this shows how much of an effect trust can have. He truly trusted "Papa", and seeing how the character was just a little girl, that is honestly pretty realistic and makes it more heartbreaking
The monster being hunched over her at 17:13 is so sad knowing it's probably a warped nightmare of her 'father' when he sexually harassed her in the night and towered over her :(
Fr. All the horror games mark has played over the years and it’s this, outwardly calm and ominous atmospheric type game, whose symbolism makes this one of the most horrific on the channel.
so… lil discussion time if anyone is interested… what do we think the pills were? only sleeping pills? do we think he put some abortion pills that jus didnt work? or was he giving her pills that would actually help and keep the baby safe and alive?
@@shantibunny7711 I think they might have been some kind of birth control to prevent her getting pregnant, but maybe she stopped taking them after a while as she ran out? After all the day does skip from 6 to like 170 so god knows what happened

I honestly thought Mark would have been used to the game height considering how close it is to his irl one. [DISCLAIMER: this is a joke. fans used to bash his height all the time. I have to leave this message because people are idiots.]
As someone who has been throught SA by my cousin - who I considred to be my friend - as a child, what Mark says about trust hits hard. "you have to trust those closest to you", that's what children, and more generally humans, do naturaly, and unfortunately I feel this is even truer when you're in an abusive relashionship. This game describes perfectly what limited perspective does to you, and unfortunately a lot kids are being raised like that. The "wash yourself" thing feels like a punch in the gut too. It's such a strange way to talk, wash yourself, it feels like an order, and then you realise it's what the little girl probably tells this herself because she feels dirty. Damn, that fucking game is on point, congrats to the person who made it !
As someone who has been SAed, I still feel dirty when I think about it. Specifically my right hand. My stepdad forced me to give him a handjob after finding out I was trans, stating that it was “the only way for him to help”. He was 40 and I was just barely 13. At that point I’ve been through verbal abuse and neglect and I had to act like a therapist for two grown adults (my mother and him) while I was being constantly berated for being an embarrassment and mistake. He was always there nicer one of the two so I trusted him. At some point when they stopped sleeping in the same room (my mother was in the guest room), he would come in my room and ask me to watch a movie with him in bed. I didn’t know that was weird, especially the fact he was really touchy, including the fact he would stick his hand up my shirt. When I was 9-10 years old we lived at a house with a pool that had a light in it. He would let us (me and my younger brother) swim later at night. When we did, he would ask me to swim naked. I once again, didn’t think this was weird. I never did because I didn’t want to. I’m scared of what he would’ve done if I agreed.
@@yeahspoiledmilk thanks. I still have to live with my mother until I’m 16, and now that they are divorced, I’m the target of her verbal threats and abuse. I’ll be able to get away soon. @@irenegreen5162 like there's this feeling of something being just utterly wrong throught. Since day one. The game didn't have the feeling of being the super/preternatural kind of horror. 🚨⚠️ATTENTION ⚠️🚨 People are saying that this game is “based” off of the Elizabeth fritzl case!! IT IS NOT!!! This game is just heavily inspired by it!! The victim of the fritzl case was a woman about to leave for collage before HER OWN FATHER kept her in a basement in their own home and did all those terrible things and more. You can find the story yourself. This game was not “based” off of that case only heavily inspired with the basement layout and the abuser being her own father. Their are lots of similarities but they are not the same. The victim was a child not a woman about to go to collage. The creator of this game said that this was not “based” on true events. Key word “BASED”. It may not be based on the fritzl case but it was very obviously heavily inspired by it. And also the victim of the fritzl case knew that she was held hostage and taken advantage of. I’m this game she is not aware that the outside world is not scary and that this is very very wrong. Just wanted to clear some things up Thank you for your time
Well then why is the ambience and the room just like the photos of which Liz fritzl was locked in? I mean if you see the pics it's the exact same Honestly it breaks my heart.
@@AstrovvCha yes you are correct! the room was based off of that just like a lot of things but if you compare the Elizabeth Fritzl case to this they are not the same.
A detail that some people may have missed is that in greek mythology, giving someone an apple can be interpreted as hitting on them, where if the person who receives it accepts it, they accept the person who gave it to them as their partner. And she was literally told to "try" it
I don’t think that’s the goal there just showcasing that the protagonist doesn’t recognize such a common household object because the outside world is alien
one thing that never fails to make me sad is how a lot of survivors or fem viewers immediately guessed correctly about what was happening. the symbolism in the video game, the nightmares, the fact alone that this is a young female character. i hoped i wasn't looking too much into it. but i was right; and a lot of other people were.
I think by the game I understood how women view the world somewhat. Although the men I am friends with and my family are great people who would never do such a thing in a million years. I guess there is always that one person who is so evil such as this.
it was at the beginning, my first thought with the pills, i was like, he definitely does things to her if hes making her take the sleepy pills, but then i was like, nah maybe its fucked up to think that. I WAS SO WRONG, JESUS CHRIST
It's strange. My best friend watched separately (both fem) and she guessed it where I didn't expect rape to be a part of this. I must be oblivious. Either way I knew the apocalypse was bs
Oddly enough the first red flag for me wasn't the sleeping pills/sedatives, it was the fact that it says "wash yourself" instead of shower, bathe, etc...
Interesting, I found the wording rather odd as well but I didn't see it as anything more than a strange game creator choice. Do you think you could explain to me why you came to this conclusion from the phrasing?
@@genodedemon5109"washing" something, like a cloth, a toy, a dish, or in this case, a kid, usually refers to an object. The phrasing objectifies the kid in my opinion. Idk maybe it's because english is not my main language but I've always seen the word "wash" for objects.
@@Qanwwyou make a good point, in English there are common phrases like “washing up” or “washing your hands” but you don’t often say you will “wash yourself”. I had seen this wording in a way that puts out the idea that you are very dirty and need to be cleaned (because of papas acts) instead of it being a refreshing type of clean. She would probably feel disgusting each day, and most likely sees herself as somewhat of an object, due to being very solitary.
This might be a bit too logical... But I think the reason the little girl had to wash herself everyday is because she got r-ped and was able to get pregnant :( she may have had blood all over her that she had to clean off herself when it was that time of the month.
@@leoo1831 yeah, I also thought of those phrases but "wash yourself" still sounds really odd, like there's some type of filth that needs to be washed away. Another reason it sounds so weird may be because of the "yourself", it just sounds so distant. Like an order. Even if she's saying this to herself, she's not saying "I'll wash myself" or "I'll take a shower/bath", it's just a straight up order and it's even sadder :(
The fact he checked for monsters makes the ending even worse. Not knowing your own father is the monster is just sad.. She's only a kid... I feel so bad if this was real. No one should have to deal with that not even knowing it's your father that's the monster.
There was a case like this, a father kept I think a 13 year old in a place almost EXACTLY like this (the cork and the rooms I realized were fairly similar to hers) I don't think she was told about the monsters, but I do know for a fact that the father did what he did
@@hfalalalala That's just disgusting. I didn't think people were such monsters. If someone tells me monsters aren't real, they are. And we're the monsters. People torture animals and their own kind.
Sadly this game is based off a real case.. Josef fritzl case. The basement in the game even looks almost identical to that of Josef's, with the tight halls, the poorly designed bathroom, the walls and the floors. The girl was called Elizabeth fritzl and she gave birth to 7 children due to her father's constant abuse and r&pe. this went on for 24 years until she was finally rescued in 2008 ... It's really really REALLY disturbing honestly, No one deserves such an experience.. especially not a little kid
@user-vw7jg7nd6j YES JOSEF FRIZTEL THAT'S THE CASE. Ngl, I was thinking of Elizabeth, but I thought it was another case because she was going to run away and everything, so he tricked her into being there saying that she got into the cult and everything..
Wanna hear another disturbing detail? There are no clothes in the game. No wardrobe. No laundry. You always have to fully wash yourself after eating. The girl is probably made to run around naked by her papa. Don't know if it's intentional or not though..
... I was looking through the comments trying to find an explanation to the ending because I just didn't get it and this comment made me realize, and the way I fucking gasped
Yup. And that's why she asked about her stomach, I believe he was making her take pills so that she didn't wake up during the night. It's a great game with a good story but damn.
The chill and sadness you feel when seeing and reading what the girl says to the plants she's growing in the basement is like how an expecting mother/parents want for their child. Also the chill over the kid sticking to the routine of taking the pills since that's all the kid knows (even though others have chosen not to take the pills)
Just a reminder that this game is based on a true story about a girl named Elisabeth Fritzel who was held hostage in a basement and raped by her father, Josef Fritzel, for 24 years. Her father drugged her and forced her to keep and take care of the seven children she had with him in the basement in Austria. This game is almost an exact replica of that actual basement. The woman was only found several years ago and this is a pretty recent case.
Thank you for bringing attention to this. I have never been more scared to see that Elizabeth’s story wasn’t as heard as I assumed it was. Just recently, my boyfriends’s mom and I were watching a true crime podcast that talked about the case. I’d heard it years ago but even she was shocked to have not known about it.
I suspect that was what it was based on when I saw that the hallways were made of plywood and were only wide enough for a…child, and that’s when it clicked
Let me clarify the misinformation. It was confirmed that the game is not based on that case and it‘s just a coincidence. It actually come from an idea from Reddit if I remember correctly.

Most of these are also from other comments.)* *(I dont think any of these are confirmed, it is just some details noticed, and none are confirmed.)* *Objective.* In the very first day, we can notice the odd wording like it says "wash yourself" instead of shower. "washing" something usually refers to an object. She probably feels disgusted everyday that she has to wash herself. *Clothes.* The girl was not seen with any clothes when washing herself, nor did the father even give her any clothes, meaning the girl probably had no clothes the whole time, making "it" easier for her father. *Kidpad game.* The kidpad game "Freerunner", it shows a small pink square avoiding red ones. The pink square can be the child avoiding her father, who is the red ones. It can also be the father avoiding the police. *Diary.* The father gives the child a diary in the first day, when we see what the child wrote in the diary, it is noticeable that there are big O's. It foreshadows the really bad ending (ending that Mark got). *Father's story.* In the first day, the father tells the child a story about a monster he saw, he probably means the police chasing him, or possibly he is the monster, and the child is the one he's chasing. *Plants.* It says a sentence after watering the plants, "Grow big and strong, little one.", The "little one" probably refers to the girl. But she didnt grow big and strong, because her life was eventually ruined. *Apple.* The father gives the child an apple, and says "They're best when they're fresh.", which could mean the father likes children better, or it can also mean he likes them if they're cleanz since the child "washes" herself before meeting with her father. According to Greek Mythology, offering an apple to someone means you want to be their partner. *Chains.* In the last nightmare of the child, we see chains in the basement. Chains can be a symbol of freedom when broken. In the other ending where she escaped, we can see the child breaking the chains, meaning she'll be free. However, In this ending, she did not break the chains, meaning she will never be free. *Stairs.* Staircases can also symbolize freedom. In one of the child's nightmares, multiple staircases appear, which could be a sign to the girl that she can still find a way towards freedom, which is shown in the other ending. However, if the child chooses to continue taking the pills, the staircases would disappear, showing that she can no longer achieve any freedom. *Nightmare.* In one of the nightmares, the child sees a monster, being hunced over her, it is probably a warped nightmare of her father. *Final day.* The final day is labeled as the 147th. If you do math on that, it is about 4 and a half months, which is well into the 2nd trimester of pregnancy whete a belly would be round and big. She was also slowly moving through the rooms because of how cramped they are for her stomach. *Note for some people: This game is NOT based on a true story, the developers has said it themselves. Only the basement is based on a certain case. Please stop spreading misinformation to other people without even knowing anything.*
@user-eu2lg1ws4f thank you. Now I can sleep peacefully tonight. I've been having nightmares and scary thoughts about this kind of thing. I'm not normal squeamish, but this topic in particular really makes me sick in the stomach

There's someone remaking Presentable Liberty for profit and it's so so sad to see. The guy frames it like he's doing it in honor of the original creator but he's just staining the legacy of the game
A game like this is about *one of the WORST forms of TORTURE imaginable IRL. I don't think this lends itself to something good (as an art medium). Presentable Liberty dealt with romance 🥀related suicide. Charlotte had other people around the cake shop she owned that she could converse with, but life just wasn't meaningful enough with just that. Similarly I have heard the creator of Presentable Liberty feel that his works weren't enough to go out socialize at a small indie gaming convention he was encouraged to go to while on a Undertale stream. Believe me i KNOW this guy had romance issues (I wont go on but he also had chat messages suggesting such past conversations). ANYWAYS I miss Wertpol content. his style was so good for what it was (the mini-games🎮 pass the time well)
At 9:53 when Mark said "Everything a growing child needs." really explained everything clearly. It's sad knowing this is not just a game, some poor girl really experienced this exact same scenario. Even other kids experience this and it's heartbreaking to know about the kind of people in this world.
the game is actually based off a girl this happened to, named elizabeth fritz. she was kidnapped at 18 by her father and kept in a basement, which was layed out exactly like the one in the game. not sure if it’s confirmed but i’m convinced.
@@Wurtoz9643 Yes, Something Can Have Similarities To Something Else Without Being Directly Based On It. I Never Said It Wasn't Similar To The Case. I Only Said That The Game's Creator Has Literally Said That It Wasn't Based On The Case And I'd Rather Believe The Actual Creator Than Multiple Comments On RUclips Claiming Otherwise. Because They Can Claim Stuff All They Want, But That Doesn't Make It True.
The pills, the basement, talking to her father through a trap door… my heart dropped, I knew right away. I figured the pills she took daily were sedatives, but also birth control considering there were two bottles? Either way, my heart sank. The fact that things like this happen..
And he does it so well too, He doesn't replay it for the other ending, which really makes me want to find out for myself and play the game so that my unanswered questions will be satisfied, so it is great exposure
Also bonus: Mark tell us about the lore behind this game, so we know much about what happening behind the scene of this game. Condolence to the original developer.
The "papa" is actually a predator that either A: Keeps the girl in his basement for ever and gets her impregnated. or B: The girl escapes and finds out that the world didn't end and hopefully escapes. It's a very messed up "game" that tells real world issues instead of being like "CHILD ABUSE SCARY!"@@NJP609
I honestly thought the ending was the "dad" was a monster the whole time and was fattening her up and ate her, then i read the comments and the story is so much worse then i thought it was. i feel stupid, naive, awful, sad, and now my whole day is ruined
The game sets itself up to be found out then self obscures and I must've wanted to subconsciously believe this would just be your average horror game as a result Yeah that's what I wanted to believe the first 5 seconds after the twist but fuck the realization hits with a wave of anger.
i knew what to expect from the start. Days were far too short, “wash yourself”, “don’t trust the other voices”. She hasn’t grown in those 147 days, i’m assuming it’s because her body prioritized the fetus instead :( My heart was sinking through this whole video, but the ending still got to me

There was a stone in my stomach the entire video. I had a very clear idea of what the twist would be from “day 1”, that I think is due in part to my own experiences with childhood SA. And I honestly think it made the game that much more devastating, especially when Mark chose to keep taking the pills, to trust papa, because it was so relatable to my own experiences. Because truly what else are you supposed to do when you’re a child and the person(s) you have to rely on for survival are the ones hurting you? What other choice is there when you don’t know any better? When you still put your trust in your abuser because even though they hurt you they still take care of you and you still like being around them because you’re a child and you love them and you don’t understand that what they’re doing is wrong? I really appreciated Mark’s discussion about making decisions with the facts you have available, about how you might make the “wrong” choice but that you shouldn’t hold it against yourself because you didn’t know any better at the time. Thinking about it is honestly making me tear up because it’s not something you hear a lot, especially as a CSA survivor. Most people don’t think about what it’s like to navigate a world that likes to argue semantics and ask if it was *really* SA if the victim didn’t get injured, if they didn’t fight back, if they didn’t tell anyone, if their abuser is nice, etc.? How growing up in that kind of society makes you question yourself, makes you think that maybe what happened to you wasn’t real *enough* to count in the eyes of others, makes you feel ashamed for not doing something different, for not being a better, more believable victim. Makes you wonder if they’re right- if maybe you deserved it because if you would have just responded in the *right* way, fought back in the *right* way, then maybe it would’ve stopped. Makes you wonder if maybe it really was your fault. It’s a devastating spiral that I know many victims of CSA and SA have experienced and struggle to overcome, myself included, and Mark talking about forgiving yourself for decisions you made when you didn’t know better was really nice to hear.
Mark is a gem. He plays games that set out these absolute worst-case scenarios and still injects a positive message. He's just a good guy, trying to spread positivity through the medium of these horrifying games. That's the main reason I watch and support him in everything he does.
Regarding the concept of doing the “right” thing in regard so SA and CSA, one thing that I read once that I’ve always kept close to my heart is: “whatever thing you did was the right thing to do, because you survived.” So even if the entire world tells you that you should have had a fight response when what happed was you had a freeze or a fawn response, you did the right thing. You have those instinctive responses for a reason, and that reason is that your body is doing whatever it takes to keep you alive in that moment. And it was effective, because you are alive today.
It's so sad to know that after the 'why is my belly big and round?', she wasn't free. It's the end of the game, but she kept on living in the basement. That wasn't the end for her, only for the player.
I wonder if she didn't last too much longer because of the blurred vision of the character, tbh she's probably not the only one 'Papa' took in there as he was so well organized.
In the other ending, the dad got caught, and I don’t think still taking the pills would impact or change that, so the child might have just walked out the door into the outside world, and hopefully get rescued
Everyone is interpreting the plants you water as you progress through the game as a metaphor for the fetus growing inside the protagonist each passing day. The way I see it though, is that plant is supposed to represent the protagonist herself. One day, she'll be big and strong enough to escape her nightmare.
Not everything has to be a metaphor, that's a bit lame if it is what the creator intended. Also why wouldn't you just resort to shackles if they became strong and wise. You could at least reinforce the hatch and wait until they were too weak to resist if they were becoming unruly.
i dont know what you all believe in but i believe in Jesus Christ, you may believe in Him as well, if you do, i hope you are where you need to be with Him, if you arent i hope you will accept him into your life, you may know the the story already, but He willingly died for everybody, and that includes you, if you are wondering if something is sinful look up Scripture about it online (i recommend the King James Version), i hope you read The Bible, and find a good church, ill leave you with some Scripture, Colossians 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. the ending made me, and most likely everyone else, feel sick to the stomach. it’s such a gripping game, and that deep, daunting feeling of fear throughout the game.. the manipulation of the father, the questions that creep up- “how does the food get down?” “Why do the pills knock you out?” “What’s going on outside?” the time skip was so confusing, and it’s impressive how one gut-wrenching sentence can change your whole perspective on a story. Thank you for the gameplay Mark 👍🏽
@@JMEEEEEEEEEEE He made her pregnant, As a younger girl she was kept into a basement and never seen the light of day, Because the father is lying to her about an infected world to keep her inside the basement. The father is giving her medicine to make her sleep so he can do disturbing physical actions to her. :(
Spoiler warning: What really hits me about the bad ending is the "papa" seeing her on the 147th day and immediately slamming the door. 147 days is roughly 5 months and typically a pregnancy would already be showing at this point implying that he saw her belly, freaked out, and slammed the door without so as another word. Hits even harder after watching a video about the good ending.
@@charlie8779 doesnt take the pills, pretends she is asleep as "papa" comes down to her. someone calls him so he leaves, leaving the hatch wide open. she goes up, leaves the house, sees its bright and sunny out and asks what that big glowing thing is in the sky.
the ending, just the words alone put me in tears to be honest. i knew the story but it didnt hit me until the end just what it was, and it just. fucked with me a bit. as an sa survivor it started worrying me from the beginning, but the trust parts made me really sketched out. especially when mark said "you have to trust those closest to you", and then his face at the end, like i cant even describe the emotions i felt at that moment. children dont know. we never really know. we just know who we "can" trust.
oh god it’s actually sickening the bit where he says “they’re best when they’re fresh” just completely has a double meaning by the end of the game like just how young she is and always calling her by pet names feels like a way to dehumanise her and if u don’t take the pills there’s a diff dream idk how to explain it but the sound while it happens sounds like a man heavy breathing which is genuinely vile i’m so sorry too anyone who had to experience anything like this i hope you have or are healing 💗
@@opalescentanklebiter HONESTLY... like its a good game but the fact that the creator thought itd be a good idea to make it so easily accessible to children...??? what was the thought process.
this game hit me kinda hard as a victim of child abuse. you never realize that it is abuse, until someone pulls you out of it, because you were so used to living like that your whole life. the worst part about abuse is having to look back and realize and acknowledge that it was abuse. it hurts a lot, and this game kinda just reminded me of that whole healing process
Thank you so much for playing and thank you for going over the document explaining the Roblox "situation"! Edit: Thanks everybody for the kind words, I really appreciate it!
Congratulations for the immense popularity, attention and success your game has received, you really deserve it and way more, and for getting noticed by Markiplier as well, one of the most popular youtubers in the horror genre. This game is undoubtedly one of the most rare games with a moral story that might teach you some things that you must know and be aware of in life, and for those who do not understand what I said, you may take a look at the video to understand how the story of the game goes, but you must watch till the end of it. I'm also glad that Markiplier understands the reason for the takedown of the Roblox version of the game. Anyways, I look forward to seeing more of your content and what you may create in the future. Good luck with your projects!
"this is just going to be incredibly depressing" I had the same sinking feeling like oh god this is not gonna be a jaunty horror I gotta set my ramen aside
What happened to the creator of Presentable Liberty is really sad. He made a third game called "Menagerie: Archive", set in the same world as the other two. It was a lot more involved than the previous two games, kinda similar to Papers, Please. The problem was that nobody played it. He tried to contact some RUclipsrs to play it, but nobody cared or noticed. This dug into his self-worth and, already suffering from severe depression, proved to be the final push he needed to take his own life. Robert Brock died in 2018, feeling as alone as the characters he created.
Wow... I was trying to remember the name of that series a few days back because I remember enjoying it and I was wondering what, if anything, had happened to it until now. What an awful way to be reminded of it.
as a survivor of csa this game brought me to hell and back. i can't tell you the type of gut wrenching horror it was to watch something so close to the real thing for me. four years of the same constant routine. i was eight when it began, not being able to fully process things and growing older to then realize what had happened is, in my personal experience something no one can learn to hold without overbearing guilt. you learn to carry it all within a space inside you and it sits their to soak, every night is the same dream and the same nightmare. im sorry to the creator and im sorry to anyone who may have went through any kind of similar trauma. if you were a child, you didn't know and it isn't your fault for not fighting them off or not being able to say no. you're strong for being able to fight it every day, and you aren't alone in your struggles. thank you mark for the kind words, you've became a very big comfort to me and in my journey of dealing with shit, even when it was happening. you brought a smile to my face every single day, and i cant thank you enough for giving some piece of mind and solace to people who need you. you've always been someone who i look up to and hearing those words will forever fill the hole carved out from the pain of what happened. it isn't much but please never stop making videos and supporting survivors. you've done a lot for people in need and i hope you continue to brighten the days of people in hurt and pained times just like you did for me. ❤
thank you for sharing your story. i can't even imagine being that young and living that cycle. it's a blessing you are still here, strong, and speaking to tell the tale. you are an inspiration. anybody who has ever been through CSA is. you've made your best out of what you've been through, and i respect you SO MUCH. i hope you know how truly FUCKING powerful and awesome you are. you deserve the world. sincerely, a stranger touched by ur comment
This made me tear up. And those words of it wasn’t our fault and especially because in the moment I myself couldn’t say no. It’s taken me years to even realize all the stuff I went through and I’m so grateful I’m able to be in a safe home now and finally heal but my heart just breaks and it makes me sick knowing so many other people especially children have to go through it and even worse. I pray you’re able to heal and find peace and hope and never stop fighting for it’ll be okay💛 I don’t know you but I hope that I can at least bring you a smile and some hope
i was kindof thinking the plants were plastic so the act of watering them is like performing a ritual despite its fruitlessness because it makes you feel like you’re accomplishing something, like showering to get the psychological dirt off of yourself. Cause in reality the water isn’t going to wash away the feeling of being mentally tainted, but it might make you think you’re doing something.
The line that Mark said made me really understand the entire situation “why are the walls made out of cork” what other part of your house would the walls be made like that, basement walls would.
Holy shit, that ending hit me like a train. And now I realized why you take the pills to make you sleepy…obviously papa is coming downstairs when it gets dark. I am going to go stare blankly at the wall now and contemplate my life.
@@Brimmsune there is no implications, this game is about CSA. If you research about CSA crimes on google you'll know; Its better to be educated as soon as possible than be ignorant and suffer if something happens.
@@Brimmsune You play as a little girl who gets sexually abused. The pills are sedatives; papa makes you take them so you'd be asleep when he assaults you.
As someone who barely survived csa and still suffers from the trauma it gave me many years later, I'm so glad Mark didn't take this opportunity to play the game and make it super lighthearted and jovial. It's very easy for people to laugh or make fun of something that doesn't affect them personally, but it's reality for more of us than you'd want to know, and having a game portray even an ounce of how harrowing it truly is feels strangely cathartic. Give your local csa survivor some love today, we all really need it (To clarify, CSA stands for childhood s*xual abuse, youtube typically flags the full phrase so I used an acronym)
yeah as a fellow survivor when i first saw someone play this game i instantly knew something was off, there was no apocalypse and these pills aren’t a antidote, so when i realized what had actually happened at the end of the game and then played it myself to see the other ending i understood why i was so untrusting immediately, it reminded me of what i’ve gone through to the point my mind knew something was off and triggered alarms in my head i am very glad mark gives this dark reality the respect it deserves as it’s awful what we and others have had to gone through and how easily people laugh it off
@iamafraidofwomenbecause sometimes people who didn't get treated how they should have find comfort in each other, or one singular thing (mark in this case) and they deserve to be allowed to share and help each other (this was not meant as insulting in any way, just explaining)
I think the watering of plants could also be interpreted in two other ways. 1. She waters them every day but they don’t grow just like her. She feeds herself everyday but she doesn’t grow. The foetus is preventing her from growing. In the end her physical condition makes it harder and harder for her to water both plants. 2. She waters 2 plants. Herself and the foetus. Like it gets harder and harder to feed both herself and the foetus as it becomes more and more hungry for energy and nutrients.
Or like the game form the tablet. Its like…the swim of little macroscopic snakes. And how the pink thing(feminine thingy) is trying to not get the white snakes into it Hope u get what i meant
Mark just fully not catching on to *any* of the weird shit and just being like “well, time for my daily pill that makes me mysteriously sleepy in my strange basement room in which I live as a solitary child with no clothes in sight and whose Papa only ever comes down into when I’m asleep!”
Judging by his comment looking for a drop chute into the room that was delivering the food, I'm not sure he was aware that the father was coming down into the basement every night.
Honestly the dad being the only person the girl gets to talk to is weird enough as it is, but I wasn't super wary about him until he offhandedly mentions that it's "good" that she gets sleepy after taking the pills.
For those who don't know: "why is my belly so round and big" is a sign of pregnancy, since the character seems to be a kid, you can put the two and two together and realize the girl we are playing as is being raped by the so called "father" the pills are probably sleeping pills or plan B pills, unfortunately this stuff does happen irl and it's the reason to pay attention to your kids
As others have pointed out, this game is supposed to be based on the Elisabeth Fritzl case where her father imprisoned her for 24 years and had 7 kids with her. Keeping 3 trapped down with her and “adopting” three others while 1 died at a few days old.
@@hollowwoods7130 1. the game dev did not actually base the game on the Fritzl case, although the basement is based on the case. 2. there is nothing wrong with creating an art piece to help you understand and put someone in the shoes of a victim of horrific crimes, it spreads awareness and could lead to helping people becuase of said awareness. to dismiss it just because its a video game is reductionism at its worst. 3. the creator has very clearly stated that this was not meant as a fun experience, and the game wasnt meant to make light of or fun of SA in any way shape or form.
Holy shit. The idea crossed my mind when he said "good" after hearing that she was tired but holy shit. I've lived with a family member a few years while I was a kid that was s-xually abusing me and this was one of my biggest fears, that he had slipped something in my food or I had just not woken up while he did something so this game has my skin crawling and I'm nearly in tears. It's terrible that people have actually gone through things like what's in this game and the fact that this could be based off of real people is just heartbreaking
Can I just say the story behind this is absolutely disgusting. I knew what was going on as soon as the guy started telling her she should be sleepy. It leaves a pit in your stomach that is always recognizable.
The fact that this plot has really happened countless times fills me with overwhelming sadness any time I think about it. How is it even possible to feel joy knowing this is happening to someone, somewhere? This game really affected me.
That's exactly what I've been thinking, there's no words to describe how horrible it is knowing that this happens every day, and that children are experiencing this. Heartbreaking
there have been and still happen many unspeakably awful things on this planet. however, at the same time there are so many happy moments on this earth, things you wouldn't even know of! so many genuine smiles, joy and hope everywhere! don't let yourself forget that this world is not black and white, it has so much more depth and so much more to see and experience and learn! both good and bad things
As a child i experieced SA from my stepdad and the "i trust you papa" line hit really hard. you dont notice abuse because youre young and innocent and dont know different, so you trust the abuser thinking that what theyre doing is normal. until you find out that it isnt. which could be days after the first time it happened, or years. i was 10 when it started, 14 when i finally put a stop to it. im so glad i never got pregnant and wasnt sedated when it would happen. this game is horrifying and makes me realise how much worse things could have been.
Im so happy you are safe from him (i really hope you are so im choosing to believe that) i can only imagine myself in that situation and i am so glad you could stop it❤❤
I'm so sorry that happened to you! I'm very relieved and happy that you're safe now, please keep being happy, healthy and strong. You're one of the most strongest people I know❤
I remember only watched half of a video like this, and thought it was a regular horror game. When I started seeing videos about “papa why is my belly so round and big?” I realized.. this is that game.
I'm glad Mark gave the original game the recognition it deserved. It's disgusting and wrong on so many levels that things like this happen to people, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN, and the fact it takes so, so, long... too long in my experience, for other people to actually listen to you and take you seriously when you're a child trying your best to get help for something you don't fully comprehend of what's actually going on when someone who's supposed to watch out for you is the one you're supposed to watch out for. Please, for the love of life, if you have a child who sounds shy and scared and they ask you if they can have a lock on their door, specifically one the child has the control of, please listen to them and help them out, DO NOT get angry, the child is probably suffering because they're being victimized by somebody in the house. I had to help myself. I have a lock now, it helps to heal some of the pain but the emotional and mental wounds are too deep. There are days where sleep just isn't something I can do, even when I do sleep, I rarely have dreams anymore good or bad thanks to PTSD dropping in on me like a basket of snakes every other night. Trust in guys is something that I really don't have a whole lot of. My view point is pretty much, "I don't need no man!" in my life. Mark is one of very few guys I actually fully respect. He doesn't joke about things like this, he has empathy and compassion. Henry was a welcome sight. He's so cute!
oh my god reading your comment makes my heart sink :c im so sorry it must have been terrible :c thank you for still being here uwaa idk wut to say or if im making this worse but T.T!!! t take care :c i hope you get the rest you deserve
"I bet this game will be less about horrific horrificness... and more about being just incredibly depressing!" Congrats, Mark, you're right! It's BOTH horrific AND depressing
Yeah, but that “father” of the kid isn’t normal one reason is bc,those pills were drugs for sure and ik how, who the fuc* and why would that his daughter
oh my goodness. when i saw the narrow walls i immediately got reminded of the fritzl case where a father locked his own daughter in a cellar with similar narrow walls and SA'd her a disgusting amount of times. and towards the end of the video my jaw was on the floor bc i couldnt believe my guess was correct. this is so heartbreaking..
Hence the title "My eyes deceive"
im just confused on one part, wasnt there someone responding ‘no not today’ when she asked if he was home or was that just her saying that
@@brieb402she gets out if she doesn’t take pills

somehow the fact that mark kept checking the stair area every time between writing in the diary and going to bed, made that ending so so much worse.... checking every night for monsters, only for the monster to strike while you're sleeping.
Damn, now I’m even more disturbed.
Omg
You talk to the monster everyday
i noticed that too, idk why but him checking every night stuck out to me and it makes sense now

To those still not getting it:
The character is a young girl, trapped in a basement.

The fact that mark said “you have to trust those closest to you” really presents the worst part of this situation. Children don’t know. This is all the victim knows.
ikr, the game really did a good job of encapsulating the limited world view of children. like when we play games we don’t necessarily assume that logic would follow the real world, and so it was so easy for me to assume that there was an actual apocalypse going on as a child would.
why teh fuck was i thinking of joe biden while reading this
I mean, it's not like this is a child-specific phenomenon. There are a lot of people who act like they know everything and/or delude themselves into actually believing it. If you read that and thought "this doesn't affect me", you're more susceptible to it as well
People are just weird like that
I am a child. but yet somehow i still know
long story short the player got pregnant and the "papa" was no "papa" and the whole monster thing was a lie. and this isn't based off of one true story, its based on many of the same situation that happened in real life. truly screwed up.
And I don’t trust people. It really is a sad situation.
*alternate ending*
if you choose to not take the pills, you pretend to fall asleep after talking with papa. he enters the room and you hear a belt unbuckling. After a moment, he leaves abruptly. you then get up, and escape the basement after papa forgets to close it. you find receipts for a bunch of strong sedatives(your pills) and a police report saying that papa was questioned but dismissed due to insufficient evidence. you then escape out the back door and see the sun for the first time :(
It just clicked for me... that's why he was gone for several days. Because the police took him in for questioning.

One small thing that really freaks me out is that the only things in the game that don’t have a meter to complete is talking to papa and sleeping. One of the obvious hints nudging us towards what this game is about is the fact that the food arrives when the father was apparently not there, meaning that the pills are supposed to knock you out, and then he comes down during the night. What made me realize what he was actually doing was the ending, instilling fear to keep you in check.
Thought the pills would give you creepy dreams but at the end made me shock. I knew it was a girl and a father alone.
I was deeply, deeply hoping that this wasn't what was happening and it was some kind of hecked up, extremely morally corrupt biological experiment like you see in sci-fi horror. As twisted as even that idea is, it was definitely wishful thinking on my part, because the reality hurts worse.

@@whenZIIZIZIZIZIZIAKMASMCJ idk i just took it as the girl being very young and writing like a child.
btw this is based on a true story. its not entirely the same, but there as a woman who a father locked in a basement. the woman knew about the outside, she was a normal woman, but he raped her, got her pregnant, and forced the woman to raise the children in the basement. the children in the basement never got to see the light of day and had to learn everthing about the world from whatever the man brought into the basement for them. the man was eventually caught and the children were freed. they live normal lives (or at least as normal of a life you can live after experiencing that kind of trauma) today but the childrens' identities are secret for their own good.
also the super narrow cork walls are a clear reference to the real basement from this case
the sad thing is it was his own daughter he kidnapped. he held her captive in his own basement and literally impregnated his own daughter :(. the mom never knew her own daughter was in her basement in a secret room. she just thought she ran away.

Incredible timing.
i always expect therapy sesh from mark lmao
Thats not therapy its common sense
All the stories that 'papa' was telling our protagonist is literal hints. Such as the 'scary monsters he hid and ran from' were possibly the police that inspected the house and asked questions, asking when we would go to sleep or we feel tired is that so he is assured that the 'antidote' which are figured as sedatives are working, the password that papa gave us which was Apple, "its best when their fresh" was an reference to child SA. (I think.)
Not only that, but when we are watering our plants. The context "Keep growing, little plant." Or whatever, is an supposed to be referenced to the baby in the protagonists belly that is growing.
And finally, "Why is my belly so round and big?" Is an symptom of pregnancy.
Asking questions is a symptom of pregnancy?!? Oh my god... I've been pregnant for decades.
@@stevendemayo3631what?
@@dinerodinero4388 OP should have said the belly being round and big is a symptom of pregnancy, instead of making it seem like asking questions is a symptom of pregnancy.
All that makes total sense now. I was thinking too that the monsters must've been the police.
Bruuh the apple one
Jeez... what a game.
Not so fun fact: This game is (supposedly) based on real-life events, which is terribly devastating a child had to go through that.
Possible references:
- The plants. "Grow big and strong, little one" was said by her because she wouldn't grow 'big and strong' like them. Her life would be ruined eventually and, with such poor self-care and nutrition, she still takes her energy to give food to the plants. (I'm surprised the plants weren't dead after 147 days as they need sunlight)
- The apple.

Just wanted to clear some things up
Thank you for your time
K thanks
Well then why is the ambience and the room just like the photos of which Liz fritzl was locked in? I mean if you see the pics it's the exact same
Honestly it breaks my heart.
And she was literally told to "try" it
Thats so messed up
The more I read these comments the more fucked up symbolism I find in this game 😰
I don’t think that’s the goal there just showcasing that the protagonist doesn’t recognize such a common household object because the outside world is alien
gonna go out on a limb here and say thats probably not the point of that scene but good on you for ancient greek knowledge ig
NOOO I REMEMBER THAT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO🥲👍😭
one thing that never fails to make me sad is how a lot of survivors or fem viewers immediately guessed correctly about what was happening. the symbolism in the video game, the nightmares, the fact alone that this is a young female character. i hoped i wasn't looking too much into it. but i was right; and a lot of other people were.
I think by the game I understood how women view the world somewhat. Although the men I am friends with and my family are great people who would never do such a thing in a million years. I guess there is always that one person who is so evil such as this.
A lot of guys guessed it too
it was at the beginning, my first thought with the pills, i was like, he definitely does things to her if hes making her take the sleepy pills, but then i was like, nah maybe its fucked up to think that. I WAS SO WRONG, JESUS CHRIST
Don't just include females.
Ngl, I was thinking of Elizabeth, but I thought it was another case because she was going to run away and everything, so he tricked her into being there saying that she got into the cult and everything..
this game was inspired by the real life austrian case of an 18 year old who was trapped and impregnated by her own father in a basement :(
Wanna hear another disturbing detail? There are no clothes in the game. No wardrobe. No laundry. You always have to fully wash yourself after eating. The girl is probably made to run around naked by her papa.
Don't know if it's intentional or not though..
Yeah, apparently this is a game about a child being abused by her father and then it makes sense that she doesn’t have clothes.
... I was looking through the comments trying to find an explanation to the ending because I just didn't get it and this comment made me realize, and the way I fucking gasped
no clothes no laundry eh
Dang..
@@vergil5749 you’re wrong it was based on the case
@@GhostVsTheUniverse Nope it wasn‘t.
*some details. (Might delete soon)*
*(Apologies if im not really good at explaining. Most of these are also from other comments.)*
*(I dont think any of these are confirmed, it is just some details noticed, and none are confirmed.)*
*Objective.* In the very first day, we can notice the odd wording like it says "wash yourself" instead of shower.

As he should
Imagined baby Mark playing on a tablet while spouting philosophy.
Realest comment
Regarding the concept of doing the “right” thing in regard so SA and CSA, one thing that I read once that I’ve always kept close to my heart is: “whatever thing you did was the right thing to do, because you survived.”
So even if the entire world tells you that you should have had a fight response when what happed was you had a freeze or a fawn response, you did the right thing. You have those instinctive responses for a reason, and that reason is that your body is doing whatever it takes to keep you alive in that moment. And it was effective, because you are alive today.
i couldn't watched the entire video. i only watched the beginning and end. there's not may videos that make me do that
as a fellow CSA survivor, this was... cathartic somehow.

This dug into his self-worth and, already suffering from severe depression, proved to be the final push he needed to take his own life.

as a survivor of csa this game brought me to hell and back. i can't tell you the type of gut wrenching horror it was to watch something so close to the real thing for me. four years of the same constant routine. i was eight when it began, not being able to fully process things and growing older to then realize what had happened is, in my personal experience something no one can learn to hold without overbearing guilt.
you learn to carry it all within a space inside you and it sits their to soak, every night is the same dream and the same nightmare. im sorry to the creator and im sorry to anyone who may have went through any kind of similar trauma. if you were a child, you didn't know and it isn't your fault for not fighting them off or not being able to say no. you're strong for being able to fight it every day, and you aren't alone in your struggles.
thank you mark for the kind words, you've became a very big comfort to me and in my journey of dealing with shit, even when it was happening. you brought a smile to my face every single day, and i cant thank you enough for giving some piece of mind and solace to people who need you. you've always been someone who i look up to and hearing those words will forever fill the hole carved out from the pain of what happened. it isn't much but please never stop making videos and supporting survivors. you've done a lot for people in need and i hope you continue to brighten the days of people in hurt and pained times just like you did for me. ❤
thank you for sharing your story. i can't even imagine being that young and living that cycle. it's a blessing you are still here, strong, and speaking to tell the tale. you are an inspiration. anybody who has ever been through CSA is. you've made your best out of what you've been through, and i respect you SO MUCH. i hope you know how truly FUCKING powerful and awesome you are. you deserve the world. sincerely, a stranger touched by ur comment
You are so strong and I hope you are healing well from this. It’s awful to hear that stuff like this still happens despite everything…

Cause in reality the water isn’t going to wash away the feeling of being mentally tainted, but it might make you think you’re doing something.
also i thought the plants were plastic cause there’s no sun in the basement, so how could they still be alive after several months without light
the daily bath is to wash the mess her father leaves.
thats what i thought tbh
The line that Mark said made me really understand the entire situation “why are the walls made out of cork” what other part of your house would the walls be made like that, basement walls would.
Holy shit, that ending hit me like a train. And now I realized why you take the pills to make you sleepy…obviously papa is coming downstairs when it gets dark. I am going to go stare blankly at the wall now and contemplate my life.

Give your local csa survivor some love today, we all really need it
(To clarify, CSA stands for childhood s*xual abuse, youtube typically flags the full phrase so I used an acronym)
this is exactly what I was thinking
I too, am a survivor. Hugs to anyone that wants or needs them.
yeah as a fellow survivor when i first saw someone play this game i instantly knew something was off, there was no apocalypse and these pills aren’t a antidote, so when i realized what had actually happened at the end of the game and then played it myself to see the other ending i understood why i was so untrusting immediately, it reminded me of what i’ve gone through to the point my mind knew something was off and triggered alarms in my head
i am very glad mark gives this dark reality the respect it deserves as it’s awful what we and others have had to gone through and how easily people laugh it off
@iamafraidofwomen because there are a lot of fucked up people in the world, that do terrible things to other people.
@iamafraidofwomenbecause sometimes people who didn't get treated how they should have find comfort in each other, or one singular thing (mark in this case) and they deserve to be allowed to share and help each other
(this was not meant as insulting in any way, just explaining)
I think the watering of plants could also be interpreted in two other ways.
1. She waters them every day but they don’t grow just like her. She feeds herself everyday but she doesn’t grow. The foetus is preventing her from growing. In the end her physical condition makes it harder and harder for her to water both plants.
2. She waters 2 plants. Herself and the foetus. Like it gets harder and harder to feed both herself and the foetus as it becomes more and more hungry for energy and nutrients.
This interpretation made me tear up...

The fact that this game is based on a true story scares me.

Judging by his comment looking for a drop chute into the room that was delivering the food, I'm not sure he was aware that the father was coming down into the basement every night.
i think this game is a little bit of a litmus test for who had good parents growing up
@@HughMungus4655 Or more likely who has read enough awful news reports and/or true crime related stuff.
Honestly the dad being the only person the girl gets to talk to is weird enough as it is, but I wasn't super wary about him until he offhandedly mentions that it's "good" that she gets sleepy after taking the pills.
i mean, i didn't catch on to it either
@@Darthvader-oc5tpit's disgusting to make a video game about smt like this
@@hollowwoods7130 1. the game dev did not actually base the game on the Fritzl case, although the basement is based on the case. 2. there is nothing wrong with creating an art piece to help you understand and put someone in the shoes of a victim of horrific crimes, it spreads awareness and could lead to helping people becuase of said awareness. to dismiss it just because its a video game is reductionism at its worst. 3. the creator has very clearly stated that this was not meant as a fun experience, and the game wasnt meant to make light of or fun of SA in any way shape or form.

Actually this is based off a true story. The Fritzl case, look it up.
@@Misouorzthat's the exact case I thought about while he was playing. Had my fears confirmed at the end. That was a sickening, horrible case.
there have been and still happen many unspeakably awful things on this planet. however, at the same time there are so many happy moments on this earth, things you wouldn't even know of! so many genuine smiles, joy and hope everywhere! don't let yourself forget that this world is not black and white, it has so much more depth and so much more to see and experience and learn! both good and bad things

I can't imagine what you must've experience but I hope you're doing well now
And the insight here is great, I think everyone should take it to heart

Well it‘s based on a true case
it's awful
it's also true that kids are most often disregarded
one of my greatest nightmares, was as a kid, screaming for help, or begging someone to help me, just for them to not believe me.
"I bet this game will be less about horrific horrificness... and more about being just incredibly depressing!" Congrats, Mark, you're right! It's BOTH horrific AND depressing
For real tho
Yeah, but that “father” of the kid isn’t normal one reason is bc,those pills were drugs for sure and ik how, who the fuc* and why would that his daughter
oh my goodness. when i saw the narrow walls i immediately got reminded of the fritzl case where a father locked his own daughter in a cellar with similar narrow walls and SA'd her a disgusting amount of times. and towards the end of the video my jaw was on the floor bc i couldnt believe my guess was correct. this is so heartbreaking..
and most surprising thing to me is that almost no one realized it was about it
And that just makes me think even more that this game is based on that.
yeah I just looked into that case after seeing this comment and the game is 100% based off of that case. It's super similar and just horrible.
