My name is Gary Buchanan. I am proud to have shared the stage with John as a duet backing him on harmonica back in the early '70's. What an up close and personal way come to know a fellow artist! As humble as Johnny was, I knew he would fly far. I miss him a lot. The man who introduced this video is Dan Garner and a great artist and friend in his own right!
This John in the early days in Shreveport, La. Man, he was something! He's the real deal. He looks so clean cut here compared to his later image as Hoodoo Man.
I had the pleasure of seeing John Campbell and Chris Whitley back in 19/92 in Houston Texas. They burned the house down. Still the best concert I ever attended!
this guy is overrated. He's not an acoustic player, he's playing electric Stevie Ray Vaughn badly on an acoustic. Not to mention his super underwhelming voice.
Now thats how you murder your guitar with the blues, such an aggressive style of blues, as a kid who dug blues and punk this man killed it Great musician.
Thanks for this. Used to see him play when he worked at Matt Umanov's in NYC and then once by surprise at Jazzfest in NOLA. Found out he played regularly at a place called Monsoon in NYC and we'd go see him regularly until we moved away. Not too long after we heard he'd died and I always wondered how. I never thought his recordings did him justice, so this is good to see.
John and i played a gig together at club Speakeasy in Greenwich Village, later did some drinking, and bummed around town. I nicer guy you'll never meet.
I'm not that surprised he died of a heart attack - look at the tension in him as he plays. It's interesting - some musicians seem to be one with the music. The music and the musician are on equal footing. But Campbell plays like he has the music by its throat. I don't know if that is good or bad but it's impressive either way.
MyFutbol14 Check out his live version of "When the Levee Breaks" which he did at Jazzfest about two months before he died. Your life will never be the same......
MyFutbol14 I have a John Campbell playlist at the 1blastman site. Check it out and enjoy. BTW, Savoy Brown was one of my all time favorite bands and Foghat was a lot of fun also.

Blues in the old days... What a show!!
There is a certain determined drive underlying his playing that I personally find magnetic and exciting to follow.
I better say that in my words:
Das ist sowas von schön! Geil!

Shreveport blues still goes strong with Kenny Wayne Shepard , my mama grew up in Shreveport.Louisiana proud .

Quando mi chiedono se gli extraterrestri esistono, rispondo di si! Provate a guardare questo video e ne avrete la prova.
yea, what's with these people?
Musicianship, and many times, no one was playing recognizable chords. Try playing cross-harp to that...
Maybe the Repubs will put their hat on the bed. So long
Absolutely NOT. He's good for sure though.
