Been working my way through this list for the past two weeks, wow what a masterclass on all fronts. Would’ve been very cool if you had included some bullet hell shmups like DoDonPachi, Ketsui, Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun, Mushihimesama and ZeroRanger. Those games are some of the most neglected, but best designed games there are. Once you realize the games are supposed to be beaten with one credit, the design starts to make a lot more sense. These games have some of the tallest skill ceilings I have ever seen. Highly recommend the channel The Electric Underground if you want to learn more about shmups and arcade game design.
I'm personally perplexed by the complete lack of RTS games (or _any_ strategy games) or sim / management games. Heck, _Minecraft_ is the closest the list comes to MMOs (aside from a brief mention of _FFXIV)._ Aside from _Tetris,_ I think all the games were first-person? Is that right? Was that intentional?

Okay, I know I made my memey philosophy-ish comment when I was just starting the video, but I do wanna appreciate the video in its entirety. Besides, it probably boosts engagement, so, a win's a win? Usually a top 100 list would seem uninteresting to me but the start of his video absolutely hooked me. It's my favorite part of the video. Specifically the "You're wrong and I'm wrong" moment was really engaging. I find myself appreciating this video a lot (even if for example I think Persona 3 Reload is just slightly better than Persona 5). I like that the list isn't supposed to be definitive, and that even if not definitive it's still *worth making*. I just think it's neat! And props to Fudj for the Herculean effort. I did want to also comment on the number 1 placement. I find the argument that "Resident Evil 4 is close to perfection" argument to be fascinating. For the record, I haven't played the game - but if I tried to apply that standard to decide my number 1, it'd probably be Hollow Knight. Although there's a fundamental difference in how we approach this. I agree that not giving anything a 10/10 because "it's not perfect" is counter-productive, but I don't think a "near perfect game" is necessarily what I personally prefer for a 10/10. For me, a game is a 10/10 if it compensates for its imperfections, if after playing, you can remember the imperfections but everything else still makes you want to give the game a 10 regardless. For me, this is Hollow Knight. I will forever hate Radiant Markoth, but I beat it all the same, and the rest of the game entirely makes up for design flaws like his fight. So, it's really curious to me how we can approach "perfection" and "10/10s" differently. Also, even if I haven't played Resident Evil 4, I prefer the remake because, as someone who is from Spain, I was really annoyed when I found out that the VAs in the original aren't even from Spain. I'm very glad they fixed it in the Remake, it sounds soooo much better for a setting in Spain. I feel a lot more "represented" (weird context to say it in, I know). Felt worth mentioning given that you point out the setting as unique. Overall, great video! In the end, my more memy philosophy-ish comment wasn't entirely ironic - this really fits the archetype of the absurd man in the best ways, cheers
Even if there are some personal favorites not hear (Notably Ori and the Will of the Wisps) and some games I didn't personally like on there, considering the goal of this list I think this was the most respectable list that could have possibly come out the other end.

I was surprised at how engaged I was with this 4.5 hour list. I can understand a lot of these choices even if I haven't played half of the games listed
I personally prefer the Touhou project, but I get it- Kirby was my bread and butter for a few years between Planet Robobot and Forgotten Land's release.

"#1........... Resident Evil 4" I may not quite agree, but I respect the hell out of that pick. Playing it for the first time on GC was an unforgettable experience. And yeah, the regenerators added so much to change up the late game dynamics. There are very few times I've ever had as much fun playing, well, anything.
Call of Duty combined with Halo may be too powerful of a game for the world to handle. It could sink cities and destroy relationships. It could doom us all. Best not to listen to that kid...

Didn't enjoy the Resident Evil 2 Remake!? Oh man, that game single handily made me a fan of the RE series and horror games in general. My first play through was unlike much else I've experienced in gaming. Great video though! I'm currently at #29 and Elden Ring (probably my favorite game ever) is #30 curious to see how this ends.
Haven't watched it all yet, but if slay the spire is not here it will be wack. That game was so good that a large part of the indie space has been deck builder rouge likes for years. edit: wack.

Fun video, your writing is really hitting a new peak imo! That said, I did want to offer some hopefully constructive criticism. I mean this with no hate, but I feel like some of the other writers didn’t come into the video with the same prompt/creative vision? Like some of them are trying to crack some simple jokes, and others are doing literally zero jokes and just wrote an abbreviated IGN review. And both kinda feel out of place next to your wittier writing and far more creative jokes. Obviously there’s only so much you can do to handle others’ creative output on a group project, but as it stands I think the bits where the other writers chime in is really jarring and I’m afraid I had to skip past some of them because they were sorta killing the Fudj comedy vibe a little bit. I feel bad for saying it because I don’t want to make them feel bad, but they really do feel out of place when the video is dominated by that classic Fudj writing. As someone new to watching Palette Swap, I didn’t come away with a clear idea of what the site is trying to achieve. Is it a comedy outlet? Is it just bog standard games journalism and you are a standout because you’re using it as a vehicle for your Fudj comedy career? What shouldn’t expect when I watch Palette Swap videos in the future? Honestly even after four hours of this video, I’m not really sure. In the future it would probably feel better if there was a more consistent tone established early on so all people participating knew what they had to deliver. That said, if I’m gonna be honest, I think your comedy writing is just leagues ahead of the rest and I only hope the other writers can catch up. Otherwise I kinda feel like they’d be holding you back.

I was even shocked about the lack of Resident Evil and wondering if you just decided the series wasn't good enough. And even some of the stuff you said about other entries in this list made me think of RE4. Great choice.
Huh. Soo... did you consider putting Panzer Dragoon Saga on the list? It's probably the best game I've ever played. Also, the lack of any SHMUPS is weird. I find that really strange. Utterly bizarre. Even a bit shocking. You talked a bit about good difficult games not really existing between the NES and Dark Souls, but Bullet Hell SHMUPS were doing difficulty focused around pattern memorization, reaction time, and spacial reasoning pretty much since the end of the NES era. They completely changed how I see, well, vision in games. I'm left with two explanations- either you didn't do enough research, or you hate SHMUPS? I used to think that they were a relic of an older era of game design, but they're more of a parallel lineage to popular game design. Not better or worse, just wildly different.
Apples and Oranges are much more comparable than Monkey Ball and Cyberpunk. The Rayman team made this years Prince of Persia game which is really good if you didn't know about that one.
if "Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion" isn't top 15 AT LEAST, I might consider mass gen*cide. Edit: this is also clearly the only purely apolitical video game in existence
I just started the video… and like obviously… not done yet, however, I think what you should do, is to work on playing and dare I say finishing all of the games you arbitrarily decided to put on this list. Would be interesting to watch for sure Edit: finally finished the video…. And I tried to be fair and hear you out. Definitely some questionable choices, and interesting omissions… but in particular the top 10 was rough. A few of the game… if not all could be argued for a top 10 in general… but of all time some of those choices were… interesting.

Specifically the "You're wrong and I'm wrong" moment was really engaging. I find myself appreciating this video a lot (even if for example I think Persona 3 Reload is just slightly better than Persona 5). I like that the list isn't supposed to be definitive, and that even if not definitive it's still *worth making*. I just think it's neat! And props to Fudj for the Herculean effort.
I did want to also comment on the number 1 placement. I find the argument that "Resident Evil 4 is close to perfection" argument to be fascinating. For the record, I haven't played the game - but if I tried to apply that standard to decide my number 1, it'd probably be Hollow Knight. Although there's a fundamental difference in how we approach this.
I agree that not giving anything a 10/10 because "it's not perfect" is counter-productive, but I don't think a "near perfect game" is necessarily what I personally prefer for a 10/10. For me, a game is a 10/10 if it compensates for its imperfections, if after playing, you can remember the imperfections but everything else still makes you want to give the game a 10 regardless. For me, this is Hollow Knight. I will forever hate Radiant Markoth, but I beat it all the same, and the rest of the game entirely makes up for design flaws like his fight. So, it's really curious to me how we can approach "perfection" and "10/10s" differently.
Also, even if I haven't played Resident Evil 4, I prefer the remake because, as someone who is from Spain, I was really annoyed when I found out that the VAs in the original aren't even from Spain. I'm very glad they fixed it in the Remake, it sounds soooo much better for a setting in Spain. I feel a lot more "represented" (weird context to say it in, I know). Felt worth mentioning given that you point out the setting as unique.
Overall, great video! In the end, my more memy philosophy-ish comment wasn't entirely ironic - this really fits the archetype of the absurd man in the best ways, cheers
Even if there are some personal favorites not hear (Notably Ori and the Will of the Wisps) and some games I didn't personally like on there, considering the goal of this list I think this was the most respectable list that could have possibly come out the other end.

Playing it for the first time on GC was an unforgettable experience. And yeah, the regenerators added so much to change up the late game dynamics. There are very few times I've ever had as much fun playing, well, anything.

You know I actually really appreciate that someone finally had the guts to say that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is better than Odyssey. Galaxy 1 & 2 will always be my favorite games of all time. 1 because I grew up with it and 2 because I think it perfected platforming

Didn't enjoy the Resident Evil 2 Remake!? Oh man, that game single handily made me a fan of the RE series and horror games in general. My first play through was unlike much else I've experienced in gaming. Great video though! I'm currently at #29 and Elden Ring (probably my favorite game ever) is #30 curious to see how this ends.
Haven't watched it all yet, but if slay the spire is not here it will be wack. That game was so good that a large part of the indie space has been deck builder rouge likes for years.

Fun video, your writing is really hitting a new peak imo!
That said, I did want to offer some hopefully constructive criticism. I mean this with no hate, but I feel like some of the other writers didn’t come into the video with the same prompt/creative vision? Like some of them are trying to crack some simple jokes, and others are doing literally zero jokes and just wrote an abbreviated IGN review. And both kinda feel out of place next to your wittier writing and far more creative jokes.
Obviously there’s only so much you can do to handle others’ creative output on a group project, but as it stands I think the bits where the other writers chime in is really jarring and I’m afraid I had to skip past some of them because they were sorta killing the Fudj comedy vibe a little bit. I feel bad for saying it because I don’t want to make them feel bad, but they really do feel out of place when the video is dominated by that classic Fudj writing.
As someone new to watching Palette Swap, I didn’t come away with a clear idea of what the site is trying to achieve. Is it a comedy outlet? Is it just bog standard games journalism and you are a standout because you’re using it as a vehicle for your Fudj comedy career? What shouldn’t expect when I watch Palette Swap videos in the future? Honestly even after four hours of this video, I’m not really sure.
In the future it would probably feel better if there was a more consistent tone established early on so all people participating knew what they had to deliver. That said, if I’m gonna be honest, I think your comedy writing is just leagues ahead of the rest and I only hope the other writers can catch up. Otherwise I kinda feel like they’d be holding you back.

I was expecting Resident Evil 4 but forgot about it till the end!!! I was even shocked about the lack of Resident Evil and wondering if you just decided the series wasn't good enough. And even some of the stuff you said about other entries in this list made me think of RE4. Great choice.

Also, the lack of any SHMUPS is weird. I find that really strange. Utterly bizarre. Even a bit shocking. You talked a bit about good difficult games not really existing between the NES and Dark Souls, but Bullet Hell SHMUPS were doing difficulty focused around pattern memorization, reaction time, and spacial reasoning pretty much since the end of the NES era. They completely changed how I see, well, vision in games. I'm left with two explanations- either you didn't do enough research, or you hate SHMUPS? I used to think that they were a relic of an older era of game design, but they're more of a parallel lineage to popular game design. Not better or worse, just wildly different.

A few of the game… if not all could be argued for a top 10 in general… but of all time some of those choices were… interesting.
