After a pregnancy lasting almost 23 months, Shanti, a 19-year-old Asian elephant, delivered a healthy 348-pound male calf Tuesday morning May 4, 2010 at the Houston Zoos McNair Asian Elephant Habitat. The calf has been named Baylor by the Zoos elephant care team in recognition of the unprecedented and ongoing advances made by Baylor College of Medicines science team to significantly reduce the threat of a potentially lethal elephant herpes virus.
Shanti began exhibiting signs of labor around 10:30pm Monday night. Attended by the Houston Zoo's elephant care team and assisted by the Zoos veterinary staff, Shanti delivered the baby at 9:32 am on Tuesday, May 4.

If a mainstream media source really dedicated to covering a business venture for protecting these animals with extreme prejudice - that is sending in spec-ops type private contractors to find and eliminate poachers, they'd make a shit ton of $$. If only..

Max the barn dog doesn’t go in the animals enclosures he just goes in barn helping his friends in the elephant teams making sure the elephants are healthy and taken care of the elephants

Cant help watching it again, Baylor too cute. Simply love mom n baby interactions. That dog was very sweet n cute too. Love the way he sat on that chair watching the news.
I think that a properly run zoo with decent facilities and knowledge is an okay place for most animals to live if they are endangered in their natural homes. It means the species continues. That being said, I hate the fact that it's because of us humans they are losing their homes. But in a zoo they also do not fall prey to other animals or get sick without help to get well. It's a difficult balance.

Very cute Baylor roaming around mom playing. Interactions between mom and baby was very sweet n heartwarming.
Cute video but I truly hope they have more space than this to roam in. I know it is a zoo and people want to see the animals but they need space none the less and a pond to wallow in.People would be just as happy or happier to see them in a distance taking a good wallow.
Do some research. Of course that's not their living space. They were probably keeping them there to safeguard Baylor. The Houston Zoo is one of the leading zoos in the nation. It's not Gatorland by the highway. Give them some credit.
