Unfortunately, Nandita and Aayu died in 2018 of Elephant endotheliotropic herpesvirus (EEHV), an illness endemic in Asian elephants which primarily effects calves, is VERY fast-acting, and usually lethal even when detected and treated early on. Another calf, Indali, got sick in 2019 but lived, one of the few calves to survive the disease. Chester Zoo is currently contributing in the development of a vaccine against EEHV, not only to protect zoo elephants, but their wild countreparts as well. Asian elephant are already Endangered, this disease is one of the many threats that puts their survival in jeopardy.
Asian elephants are elephants that constitute the genus Elephas, they are an exclusively asiatic genus with only fourteen recognized species: the †Syrian Elephant (Elephas asurus), the Indian Elephant (Elephas indicus), the Sri Lanka Elephant (Elephas maximus), the †Chinese Elephant (Elephas rubridens), the †Falconer's Elephant (Elephas hysudricus), the †Flat-Headed Elephant (Elephas platycephalus), the Bangladeshi Elephant (Elephas bangladeshiensis), the Indochinese Elephant (Elephas vietnamensis), the Sumatran Elephant (Elephas sumatrensis), the †Javan Elephant (Elephas sondaicus), the †Blora Elephant (Elephas hysudrindicus), the Bornean Elephant (Elephas borneensis), the †Beyer's Elephant (Elephas beyeri), and the †Sulawesi Dwarf Elephant (Elephas celebensis), asian elephants originated from Southwest Asia following their split between the mammoths (genus Mammuthus).
I like how they all support the mother. That’s amazing. Cute that the, now, older baby was jealous and even kicked the new baby. That was funny. Mom, tired of the antics, finally pushes her away and slaps her with her trunk. I like to observe their discipline techniques. They’re very effective.
Elephants are the cutest of all time

...that`s sad news😮in my city, the zoo lost 2 elephants in a short time as well,,,,, Thank you very much for your informative comment
@@twinflowerfioretta I am so sorry. Is it the Albuquerque BioPark Zoo in New Mexico, by any chance?
@deepaparvesh9232 but the episode is old
I hope they succeed in developing a vaccine, that's so heartbreaking to the keepers who work so hard and the other elephants losing family members
That's so tragic
Kids they're all the same whatever species
Yeah
The jealousy is so adorable!
When she kicked the new babies tryna be sneaky aww we all know what that feels like she is just a little jelly ❤❤
Someone needs a time out!!! The babies are adorable 🥰
I want a little micro elephant to play with so much it hurts
❤❤❤🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘.s especially the babies are the best.
Find it amazing how the other elephant stand side by side to protect the calf
Well its instinct in the wild calves are killed alot by predators
Its amazing but its quite common behavior in mammals that have vulnerable infants in particular
Cuteness overload ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Where do you come up with the names for them
We reach our peak energy hyper zoom at 5 then its a slow decent
Eating ice? these are part mammoths
Where are their teeth
In the mouth. They’re more molars than incisors.
If you mean tusks, only the bulls grow those

5:48, ewww, not with the kid there!

Horrible that they are in a zoo without the true life of an elephant. They should be at a reserve.
They live a great life and are well taken care of. Places like these are trying hard to keep the species alive.
Opino igual!, No deben estar ahí.
En una reserva y en sus países!!!.
Si los quieres ver, viajas a sus países y de paso dejas divisas
Poachers
Pauvre bébé une vie entière en prison
NO ZOO.
While others are commenting on how cute the babies are, I'm sad that 3 generations are living in captivity.
