- For the first time ever, cinematographers capture a humpback whale birth before the 5000 mile voyage to their feeding grounds. In Maui, and worldwide, scientists have only recorded a handful of females with calf flukes protruding-a sign labor has begun-but not the entire birth itself.
That’s why the event was so meaningful-the first complete humpback whale birth caught on camera, start to finish, which is featured in the new National Geographic series Incredible Animal Journeys, premiering November 19 on National Geographic and streaming the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.

So beautiful & so precious watching this. This is why our oceans need to be kept clean not destroyed & why animals deserve to be respected, admired & protected.
East Asia is about 85% of it. Had to say
Especially whales, they’re so unique
💙
@@bonsaw57you mean the place where all your western products are made in extremely toxic industrial cities with tons and tons of waste? While the people there earn wages so low that they in no way shape or form enable them to even think about the environment? Had to say it
@@bonsaw5785% of what?
This video brought tears to my eyes. Congratulations and a heart felt thank you to the amazing camera crew for this very special gift.
No it didn’t
Her pursuors have become her protectors....that was truly beautiful
What a beautiful world we live in..unforgettable video! Let's clean our world and save these many endangered animals
Great
Just don't cry.
This was so nice.❤ Giving birth to a Baby Hump Back Whale. Something new and innocent in the vast ocean. Felt good to see it all on video.
Be the change you want to see in the world
Earth only planet to support life our sky and ocean are blue
1:55 Birth scene. 😯
2:30 Really nice of the males to stop fighting, when they realised the girl they were fighting for was a pregnant lady about to give birth. 😊
Pretty cool right... This was such an amazing experience!!
You didn’t see the continuation when she was swimming with a calf several days later, and (same? another?) group of males started to harass her again even though it was clear she was a new mom.
What worries me is that she is alone on this voyage. I supposed she might have her mom or auntie travelling with her to help.
yes and the male blew her bubbles lol
Do you think whales would get turned on seeing other whales going at it? The way humans do with p*rn? It’s really quit strange if you think ab it.
Being a mother myself, it brought tears of joy witnessing this video . Thank you for showing us something we could not possibly ever witness on our own. Just beautiful….
Me too😭 I am the mother of 2 sons.
After studying and swimming with these whales for thirty years, it was agreed upon by everyone in the field that a birth had not been seen or photographed underwater. Until now! And in what wonderful circumstances, to witness the rowdy machos become so unanimously respectful! Wow. 🙏
Right and no one is commenting on how the alpha male was a gentleman by blowing a bubble screen! So sentient.
To be an alpha is to make sure everyone is safe and happy
Yes I agree it was so sweet and magnificent
But they didn’t show the birth though smh
To put it in very simple terms (sorry for putting in doubt those animals "morality") they should know they cannot mate with a female in labor and perhaps they have some notion of how important it is to keep the species. Unfortunately there are many dangers in the ocean (which the mother and the calf will have to face alone).
The part where the 'lead male' created the screen of bubbles was incredible. 🐳
I love cetaceans...
Still have old NatGeo DVD about blue whales where the mama lets the cameraman play with her calf. The wonder of it.
Earth needs triage. Hoping humans can get it done together.
Paz y luz 🐳🐋
🩶🧡🩷🖤🤎❤️💜🩵💙💚💛🤍
Is it on youtube? Cameraman bluewhale video
yea that was actually a bit more impressive then the birth and I'm a female.
Yes that was a smart move! Some magical ocean mammal technology 🐋 🫧 🫧
Amazing. The baby is so cute and already knows what to do. I love how the other whales protected the mom as she was giving birth. So smart.
🎉cry me a river mate
Hopefully you don’t eat sea animals!!
@@kennykenny6896 I don't eat any animals
Humpbacks are so incredibly smart and create deep family bonds, they’re remarkable Animals.
This was such a breath of fresh air to experience. Incredibly shot, edited, and narrated! Thank you. 🙏🏼👌🏼
The calf is so cute.
His mom will take care of him for a while.
Thanks for this excellent video 🎉🎉🎉
The crazy thing about whales is that they live in water.. Yet can’t breathe underwater.
I think that’s fascinating. Land animals, on the other hand (like humans) can only breathe air, but will die without water.
@@kiaxiong8900 True as said.
@@kiaxiong8900 amazing
Like we need oxygen and vegetation need carbon dioxide
What an incredible photographer.
I've never seen that before.
Like always, Nat Geo is #1
Like others, I was stunned, amazed and shedding joyful tears. What a wonderfully beautiful video. Humans are not the only animal with social and caring societies.
The best video of 2023! for real. Amazing job done by Nat Geo. Loved the narration❤
Humpback whales are so fascinating! And also super smart, our crew filmed one off the coast of Alaska and its ingenious ploy for getting herself a quick and nourishing meal worth a cool 13 million dollars. She basically found a way to access a salmon hatchery. Whales are the best!
Wow, what a lovely video 😊❤ They're so intelligent. Very moved by the male humpback whale that blew bubbles to form a screen to give the female humpback whale some privacy. Thanks, National Geographic team!
This melted my heart! So precious. The beauty and wonder of nature is truly unimaginable. Thank you NatGeo for sharing this with us.
It must be the most gracious mammal that has ever lived on our planet.
Wow 😮 thanks for sharing the beautiful humpback whale birthing moment, it's so precious to watch 🐋🐳
Nicely done.
I would love to watch the full documentary though…..
This is pure, exotic. AMAZING. The miracle of birth is a witness every creature who’s seen it can agree to. It changes you, much like witnessing death. Bravo to the photographers who caught this.
OMG, that was just so beautiful. Watching any baby come into this World is a miracle to witness but it especially so when witnessing the birth is so rare. 😍😍😍😍
Amazing how the boys knew and the one was a gentleman blowing bubbles for her omg.
Most amazing video that brought tears to my eyes. With everything that is wrong with our world, this was heaven on Earth.
You look into her eye and see an intelligent soul of gentle giant
Dear Father God,
Please protect the precious lil one to grow and live a long a happy life ❤ 🤗
My husband and I went whale watching today in HI. We saw plenty of moms teaching their babies, preparing them for the long journey back. They're here for about 6 months and there is no food source for them. The moms lose about 1/3 of their body weight and the babies nurse. This was beautiful to watch as there's only so much you can see from the surface.
What an amazing video ! thank you for sharing !
This beautiful i just wish the people on the top care as much as we do
Incredible; both the process and the magic that let National Geographic make me feel like I was there.
Praise be to God the One and Only, the Almighty, who created all these animals and then taught them Love. Who taught the baby, that this is your mom, who taught him how to swim right after birth? God is Great.
ALLAHUAKBAR...!❤
What a lovely video. The best thing was that the males realised she was going into labor, and immediately protected her. MOTHER Nature is so beautiful
This video is melted my heart ❤️
What a beautiful triumph for both the humpback whale populations and the whale research community! For all those moved by this scene, realize that this and many other natural wonders are what we will lose if we continue with our current ways of sitting on the fence and denying the sea, the organisms who live in them (like these humpbacks) and the environment the protection they deserve.
May they live long and prosper❤
Nature is magical 💚💚...so sad we humans keep on destroying it endangering species like this 😢
They are known for their magical songs, sounding as moans, howls, cries, and other noises.
It certainly would have deceived ancient mariners into believing the mermaids existence.
WOW I'm speechless. Most satisfying film or clip I watched today. Thank you National Geographic and the whole team behind on this beautiful film! Indeed, God is our Wonderful Creator! "He create all things beautiful." 🙏🏼❤️
What a Very Special and Beautiful Video!!! So Awesome!!! Thanks to All The People behind this!
What an amazing documentary of new life, emerging triumphant.
This was an awesome capture.
Thank you
Wow its so fascinating, ❤❤the world is much more and beautiful to explore 😊😊
I love watching qnd learning about whales . Thanks for the video 😁✨
Whales are always beautiful.
The males were like, “sorry, we thought you were just thick, we didn’t know you were pregnant.” 🤷🤦
WATCHING THE BEGINNING OF LIL ONE BEING BORN WAS TRULY MAGICAL, IT REALLY WARMED MY HEART TO SEE THAT.
IT'S A PITY IT WAS SHORT, BUT I WILL LOOK FOR THE FULL LENGTH VERSION IF THERE IS ONE.
WELCOME TO THE OCEANS LITTLE ONE. ❤
This is probably the most beautiful thing I've ever seen
How precious I got all emotional 😭❤
Oh my goodness... What a beautiful reminder of why we need to start looking after and protecting our oceans... 💙🐳💙
That is amazing, Humpack Whales rule!
WOW!! UNBELIEVABLE WOW!!
My favorite Whale 🐋 Scuddles

Wow, so beautiful and majestic. You guys are so wonderful.
Beautiful video! Thank you!
So glad I stopped to watch a rare moment in time! Mother Nature is always amazing!!! ❤
Adorable moment ❤❤
So amazing and special! ❤❤
Humpbacks are seriously the most amazing whale ever. I went on a whale watching tour and there was a momma and calf the were breaching. It was so cute because the calf was trying to mimic the moms breaches. Ever since I have been in love with humpback whales.
That was amazing! I can imagine a longer film like this on the cinedome screen, taking up the entire space of a giant screen, because it shows exactly how important all life is.
My jaw dropped 🥹😍 beautiful precious moment. Thank you nat geo for this 🥹😍🫶
literally brought tears to eyes. This is beautiful.
Magnificent!
💙This is my favorite whale species. I have not seen this before, the another humpback whale that blew bubbles to form a screen was amazing, they are very intelligent.
This is so beautiful, I have tears in my eyes. They are so intelligent. ❤
An absolutely awesome sight you've captured here, thank you so much!
Thanks Nat Geo and YT! So grateful to have witnessed this even just here in YT! And of course thanks Jeremy Renner our Hawkeye! :)
Wow what a beautiful thing to witness. Thank you for sharing.
Our Creator is AMAZING!🤩😍
Any other mammals give birth with rear first unless breach? Never thought of it until seeing this. Amazing
Cetaceans such as whales give birth tail first because they don't have gills and need to come up to the surface to take their first breath, otherwise they would drown if they came out head first
Such a precious moment!!!👍👏🏻👏🏻😍😍😍💙💖🧡🙏
I dont know about anyone else but I had to watch this a few times,I couldnt see anything for tears...this was beautiful ❤
My God! Look at the beauty of his creations and creatures! I'm in awe of his magnificen
Whales are such wonderful creatures, so intelligent and sensitive and magnificent...I could not help crying
Eyes are always the part where you see something is CGI.😅 But still very nice shots and a good narrative.
Wow humpcack whales are huge, beautiful and I love how they make a beautiful sound and I enjoyed watching this female whale give birth to her cute adorable baby calf in your video
Simply magical 😊😊😊

Whales are such beautiful and majestic creatures. I feel so blessed to share a planet with these extraordinary animals. They are truly so magical 🥲❤️
Beautiful! 😘 Thanks, National Geographic.. and Jeremy Renner for narrating.
"Admiral, they'll be whales here!"
This feels so precious to watch!
Nice one NatGeo this is indeed a rare footage!
Thank you so much for this beautiful video. May God bless these beautiful creatures and let's pledge to keep our oceans clean.
Awestruck by these amazing whales. Please humanity, please start protecting our oceans and planet...
I'm in awe. So beautiful ❤️
These animals are so incredibly intelligent, I wish we would protect them and value them as they deserve
Renner should do more narrations. He has a great voice
Boy whales:" dang look at shorty"
Also boy whales: "oh shoot mam my bad, ok guys lets protect her."
This has got to be the most beautiful thing that i ever seen
Thank you so much for sharing this. What a beautiful experience. ❤
The birth of only a tail is shown n then full grown new born swimming by moms side for its first breath! Gods greatness
Nature is so incredibly spectacular. And narrated by Jeremy Renner, even better.
I’m your biggest fan I like to learn about wildlife creatures
What a precious moment to witness in the vastness of the magical sea
How loud are humpbacks when they're making those social calls at short range?
