Human babies are very much the same. They immediately know their mother from sound; smell; touch; affection; comfort; etc. Also, as a human baby cannot walk until his/her legs are ready...a baby dolphin cannot swim perfectly until his/her dorsal fin strengthens. So, the human baby, like, the dolphin baby, needs his/her mom for nursing; teaching; growing up; etc.
And you can be in labor for 2-3 days and the child grows up to direspct you or be a menace. The old saying is... I brought you in this world and I can take you out!!

Thats why for almost week the baby spends it time swimming like that with its mother until its strong enough to swim unsupported. After that you will see it swim underneath the mother
She's not losing a lot of blood, the reddish fluid is mostly amniotic fluid. She has yet to pass the placenta. What blood there is, isn't a lot, and is probably from the umbilical cord.

Also yes, almost all mammals eat milk from here mother directly after birth. If you have any other dolphin related questions just ask!
For other mammals, giving birth is generally not as painful as for a human. Because humans have such large heads, it is difficult for a baby to pass through the rather narrow hips. Other animals don't have this issue. For humans, it is a payoff between possible risk of death in childbirth, and a large brain volume. It sucks lmao. But hey, at least other mammals may not be in such a pain in comparison lol
