Todd I started this journey in March 2020 and shot scores of 64, 66, and 67 in the last three months. I am 69 years old and have hardly ever broken par previously. I appreciate the detail you provide to learn this great swing.
Tod, I’m 62, I have tried to swing the club like Moe and your teachings for probably 25yrs. I’m a 4-8 hcp during the year depending on how well I putt. Ball striking has always been something I can count on. I knew that Moe and yourself had something in what you teach that I believed in. This one lesson of yours with the grip, lead arm position, and mainly the spine tilt seems to have put it all together for me. I was shocked on the range before play today as to how easy you and Moe’s methodology took hold of me after this one latest video of yours! Crisp strikes and 10 plus yards longer irons...driver more accurate and longer as well. You explained so well here the parts of the one plane that I was missing. Continue your great videos Tod, Merry Christmas!
Clint Squires No I have only tried to emulate what Moe Norman’s swing looked like in my earlier yrs of playing and recently tried again with Tod’s videos here with limited success.
I've been playing golf for 55 years. I'm 60. I was a PGA pro for 15 or so years. I've studied everything trying to get better and while I was a +1 for awhile, I've never been able to be consistently good using the conventional swing. I've taken dozens of lessons from top teaching pros, been to numerous PGA Teaching and Coaching Summits. I worked with Ben Doyle for 6 years straight and while my swing did improve, my shots didn't improve as much and I hit a plateau and considered quitting altogether. In 1994 I saw a presentation about Moe and thought..."wtf?" I missed the boat then...but not now. This is the only "system" I've ever been able to take from the range to the course. I've improved my driver and irons accuracy which has translated to lower scores and a hell of a lot more fun on the course. For me, this has been the quickest I've ever come back from an extended layoff and out of the box felt comfortable and natural. It's always made complete sense even when I first saw it in the 90's and failed to convert. These are great videos Todd is putting out. Thanks!
This is very interesting. I was looking for some club griping info and I stumbled across your videos. What caught my attention was your setup and how far away your hands were from your body. That was the first time I ever saw anybody setup like that besides myself!!! I have been doing that for a long time. I am short with long arms and I have to swing far away from my body to keep from hitting the ground. Can't say I am consistent though. But obviously there is more to it than just that. I am exited to learn all of the rest of it.
Thank you very much Todd...I am amazed how much my swing is improving everytime I go to the driving range and when I apply your swing techniques from the videos that you post. Keep up the good work.. I hope to attend one of your golf clinics someday.
7:12-7:25 - Todd has very good bio-mechanical sequencing. The slow motion/static positions from 7:20-7:25 are excellent. Pelvis & Hips lead the way, ahead of the upper body, and the lead forearm rotation is combined with a very well timed release of the wrists. Todd makes very good use of wrist deviation, moving from radial to ulnar, from the top of his swing to impact respectively. In other words, he releases his wrists from thumb to pinky near impact, and when added to his already very good pelvis depth and hip rotation, he gets high ball speed. He doesn't rely as much on releasing wrist bend, specifically extension, because this would require adding wrist flexion either at the top or somewhere in the downswing, but this can be used in addition to deviation for even more ball speed. Most people are not very good at creating wrist flexion, so they end up over doing extension and flip at the ball. An example of someone who uses wrist bend efficiently would be Dustin Johnson, who exaggerates it. I use both, but create wrist flexion in the downswing instead of at the top, and release it as extension through the ball. When I combined both, I picked up 15-20 yards per club. My personal hurdle continues to be early pelvis extension and hip rotation. Excellent video as always Todd!
Even though I have been watching a lot of your videos already this one was really helpful to understand WHY we do all these things (side bend and so on) it’s probably not because you never talked about it but more like different things sink in and then you just get it at a certain point. Pretty cool! Thanks for all these invaluable videos Todd!!
I've been trying the single plane swing for a few weeks now, its going well although still struggling with the driver, I seem to get a lot off the toe which leads to shots going left. The bad shots are thin, probably because my lead side still wants to lift up. Really enjoying the content.
MrCoolSpanner I’m having similar issues. Todd has a video that promotes lining the club face closer to the heel of the club face. He explains why it gets corrected to the sweet spot at impact.
@@MichaelCruz-rc7hb 7 months on and I'm really pleased with my driving. I tee it high, set it up slightly towards the heel, but not loads, have a really slow back swing and then hit it as hard as I can, at the moment the harder I hit it the straighter it goes. The single plane swing is definately working for the driver not quite so much for the irons, so it is a bit of a hybridised swing, but then we are not all going to be as good as Todd or Moe.
Todd I have been trying sps for 10 months I have struggled with my irons getting square hitting left bad. Not driver just irons. I think Iam setting correctly with ball position. Hitting every fairways but a iron in hand and miss every green. I have the board, video and book, I need help where to go to fix the iron play in the process. Thanks Todd your great for golf.
Hello Todd - before the impact is there any supination of the left and right wrists how does the clubhead turn over to meet the ball as per moe norman single plane?
Todd, could you give some insight on the lead elbow? I have a tendency to rotate my alead arm at impact at times, where should the elbow point at impact?
Yes. Corey. The trail elbow is in front to the trail hip at impact and the trail arm is bent. However, what you should be asking is more about your Toros position because if your torso is out of position, you can Never get the elbow in position. Work in the inside of the golf swing first.
@@ToddGravesGolf thanks Todd, I learned the SPS this week after watching tons of your videos last weekend. I went out for the first time yesterday and shot 8 shots better than last 5 rounds, and I felt like I could play another round because my back and hip did not hurt for the first time in two years. ThANK YOU
My question is not quite about squaring the club face, but maybe. When hitting the hybrid should hand/arm position at impact be more as a fairway wood or an iron as far as shaft lean/ compression?
Tod, I struggle for months with my shots mostly going left of target (no hooks). I have being analizing my grip and motion and it seems I twist my hands, closing a little the club face when striking with more power. With less lower, for a shorter shot, that does not occur. I can't figure out a solution for that. Can you give me any hint ?
I have been at the indoor range now that winter has arrived and the screen indicates an inside path and a closed club head, I'm a lefty. I can't seem to get the club head square at impact. I have my hands in a neutral position and I feel I'm flipping my hands. I will try this approach and set up the tilt before I grip the club. Anything other suggestions?
OK I understand the Rotation concept but when I first “grip” the club handle, is the driver face resting naturally on the ground so it has a slight angle or do I twist the club slightly so it is “vertical” as it would be an impact?
@@ToddGravesGolf I've been struggling with this and curious about this answer. I setup and the club face looks very open so I try to square the club face up at address. I take it your answer is to grip the club at full range of motion and keep the club head in the middle of your stance and it will square up at impact due to your body rotation.
Todd Wow this is one of the best lessons i have seen, because this is so much to do with the lead arm rotation i never knew about. My game is massivley improving already but i carnt wait to try this now. Thanks
I like your videos, I like the swing....but this video is confusing for me. I can turn my wrist another 1/4 turn while holding my bicep with the other hand.
I must have wacky biomechanics because I can easily rotate my left wrist past square and send the ball left...do it all the time....grrrr. I'm sure I have to stop the upper left shoulder sooner or something like that.

Depends on the hybrid design but generally you should place the hybrid in iron ball position - 5 inches inside lead heel.

Yes. Probably. Is your trail leg bent after you tilt? It should stay straight. (at address).

Its possible. Are you making sure that you are hitting into a flexed lead knee, and that the knee is staying flexed from impact to finish?

Square.
