- Grateful Dead - First time they played "Werewolves of London" as encore at Veterans' Memorial Hall, Columbus, Ohio, on April 19, 1978
New Halloween version here: • Werewolves of London ☮... - Видеоклипы
So, I loved this for all the wrong reasons. A van load of us came north from the Hocking Hills to the show. We were, well, we were jacked up. They took me to my balcony seat and said to stay put.! I did. Then, I started dancing and letting out howls.! Some guy on the main floor howled back. We did that until the show started. My friends told me that was why the band played Werewolves of London encore.! Hell, I believe my deadhead friends.! We made it home a couple of days later, safe and sound.! Miss you Jerry.!!!!!
They did it for you man! When I seen D&C at Alpine I SWEAR to God that setlist was for me.
Um 1978 was the year that song was released...and it was a big hit..Your friend's a genius ..
So you "started a howl," as they say in Zootopia?
Hahahahaha. It happens. Peace ✌ ☮
So, they played this as the encore at my 1st show Springfield mass '78. Lights went on. Place went NUTS Lights back out 2nd encore Not Fade Away. Hello, This Band is called The Grateful Dead? I think I'll see them again. 17 years 300+ shows later. Thank You Jerry!
:)
We drove by that show when I was a little boy, I remember seeing all the people outside the civic center. I asked my Mom what was going on, she said people are going and seeing the truth. Love her and the Dead. Springfield had many of the best shows ever.
Lol great story
Ya know, this is fun, Dank a Shey. AND H. NEW Years 2023
The audio does not do this remarkable evening justice. I was very fortunate to have been there. Despite the vocal mix, it is sheer bliss to hear this again after all these years, almost like listening to old friends.
I miss Jerry. I could really use a show about now.
Halloween night Columbia SC in 85 for me. Nice.
SOUTH CAROLINA SAYS DONT FORGET 10/31/85. NOT TO MENTION ONE OF THE BEST "THE MUSIC NEVER STOPPED" EVER
This is one of my favorite dead covers. They sound like they have so much fun with this song
Dear marT Tram, I'm sure they had a lot of fun doing this song, it's such a funny song. The first line always makes me laugh: "I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand..." You never hear lyrics like that any more.
Scottish plumber Scottish plumber, retired Carpenter but I work with a plumber on the side have been for a long time. Thanks for putting this one on her don't live more than once. Thank you again heartfelt compliments
I've hear people talk about how bobby was slide happy, but in this song he kills it. Never saw the The Grateful Dead, but have seen The Dead w/ Warren Haynes and Rat Dog. Going to see Further in Nov.
I attended this show. Fantastic! Nice to experience it again.
I was at this show. When we got there it was sold out. My friend knew that but didn't tell me which was a drag (I thought) because it was like three of us crammed in an MG and we got pulled over and they patted our driving friend down but didn't find anything even though he had an OZ. Got there and quicklike we had more tix than we needed and were trading them for $ and extracurriculars. First time I saw the band. After the show someone I knew up Columbus way complained that they didn't play the hits and I hugged them because they didn't. It was a great show and this song took it to the next level a total shocker did not see it comin'. Love ya Senator.
Wow, you are very blessed to have seen Donna Jean! I'm a younger head and I don't understand all the hate she receives I think she's great!
Thanks you for putting in a good word for Donna, I never questioned for a minute her rightness, she seemed like one of us + one of them! What I have yet to play back - and need to - was the weird instrumental stuff that preceded and led into Estimated Prophet. I loved it.
@Gary Daniel She had a presence that night, regardless of whether she was on key or not! In my opinion, however, she was better at this show than in the 73 and 74 shows. She was more relaxed.
Thank You!!
OW, WOO! Werewolves of San Fran! OW, WOO! I love how the drums just dominate this thing. OW, WOO! Fucking Grateful Dead! OW, WOO!
AAAWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Legend says the whole band was spun all the way out on L or Mescaline, something I forget.
I never heard this version before. I like it! Also, nice job on the changing colors on the video. :-)
You never forget your 'first time.' This was from a show in Columbus ,Ohio. I kept getting hassled for smokin.
@akohahenry I was at that show also Bobby had a full wolfman face mask on and started howling before the lights came back on !! 4 days after I saw them at RPI in Troy N.Y. Great Times
Jesus, that fucking slide takes this song to another level...
I like it !
listened to this show today 8/12/14 on Sirius ...i was there it was my 24th Bday feelin fine on 714....i believe the band likely got ahold of some too the way they sound....the DJ on Sirius said that this was the first time that they ever played this tune encore or not....
Nice !!
thanks ami..!
Nothing Better Then Some Jerry!
RAW!!!
hey , they played this song for my friend Kevin (Stoner) and I .... we'd just been hitching through the bay on 1st of april got picked up by an old Hogfarmer who ushered us up to a private club (downstairs) crew quarters (upstairs) the theme for the night Henry Hull 20's version (is there another?) of the film werewolf of London ... also listening to Zevon ... these guys were overwhelmingly although laid back to find two freaks from Cols. , Oh. hip to among other things that particular film .... somehow word got though to the band and they chose our hometown to debut ... coinkydink ... I think not !
Jerry playing Wolf...appropriate
🌹🎸❤
That captures their sound sort of.
You're very welcome! Thanks for the feedback.
FWIW, it was definitely at Vets Memorial. I know only because I was there.
Me as well and the show did not sell out until about four days before, which was odd.
there...met the boy's after the show while tripping in the parking lot for 2 hours
Stop lying
today 4/19/23 = 45th Anniversary
Easy Bob!
sweet......
Waooooooooo!
gotta love the dead
Perfectly groovy
@russrnb - thanks, i added the location info in the area below the video
@MrClin - thanks man. I'm working on a new Werewolves "tribute" video right now, with audio from 4/24/78....
Warren Zevon is God.
@WeirSpirit - and love the best of the best.....
That didn't come through all that clear. See that live more than once I believe it's one of them things they would pull up that would surprise you.! Sad to say them days are gone. You know it don't buy me a badge or nothing but I have first role at Soldier Field at the last show. And I could see to the side stage I could see through the side stages they come on oh, I knew it was going to be tossed sure enough. Jerry was gray in the face oh, and I got tell he was going to be toast. What are you playing a show. Buddy played a good show

Cbus Oh ~ A very electric,cosmic evening : ) : ) : )
So, maybe not the greatest version. It sounded pretty great when I saw Warren Zevon open for the Dead at their 15th Anniversary Show at Folsom Field in Boulder.
Not surprising. Zevon wrote the song.
I love the song but the singing in this is absolutely terrible. Instrumental section is OK.
AHWOOOOOOO......😎
My favourite undercover CIA band.
you dont really have any option after you're seen by the all seeing eye.
rockon.
@conanhall1 - Hi. The info I have is "Veterans' Memorial Hall" but it sounds like Soldiers and Sailors might be another name for the venue. Never been to KC so cannot say...
Can't hear it on my iPad :-(
This was recommended to me by a fan, on my bewilderment about the adoration for this group. Well, it was unconvincing, to put it mildly.
Was this Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in KC? I was at all those shows but the only WOL I remember was at Red Rocks.
Cant beleive that jerry died...im seeing furthur in november here in columbus ohio
Huh?! I didn't even know he was sick...
get yer ya yas out! what? i'm appalled. and I know my Dead!!
It is said that the entire band ingested copious amounts of mescaline on this night and all hilarity ensued in set 2. This would explain the gross lack of musicianship in this version!
My bad. The mescaline show was 5/11/78. Listen to it if you haven't already. Things get really weird during Dancin...
Well Keith's asleep at the keyboard
haha totally sound asleep!
as often he was near the end...
eaglewingpalace
@manuetalain83 Ouais c'est le vrai!
@WarmCuddles or not
Grateful Dead / Wide Spread Panic, Werewolves of London, do I need to say anymore
Phil must of been drunk here lol
I can't hear Keith at all in this mix. :(
Is that Donna?
Although I will say the lyrics sound like they are a beat too quick
@WEIR4EVER - hahahaha
Please.........1977, 1978, 1981, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988, and so on....don't say ignorant things like this please.
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
take 5 donna :P
one bad vid
sloppy - they're playing the chords out of order.
this is about as good as a jr. high band
would have loved to go to jr high where you did
@@adamstark5625 I think he has a vivid imagination.
Sounds like the werewolf of London after he scored heroin I love the dead but this is awful .
strung out dead at this point...anything post '74 is spotty at best...
It was the best post '74 show I ever saw butt I missed '77. But '74 was magic.
Love the GD and Zevon and this song, but this is terrible :-(
first time they tried to play it live, maybe ever?
look at red rocks in july for an excellent version.
eric kaufman iiii
So bad , it's good !!!! And I love GD
I will never understand the fanatical, blind loyalty of Dead fans. This is a trainwreck. The slide guitar is bad and the vocals suck.
shame all the band members appear to be playing different songs - you'd be embarrassed playing this badly as a young band starting out in your dad's garage let alone on a public stage!
A shame, in one sense, but it is entertaining, to follow the various different songs being played. I think I recognize a couple.
This is freaking TERRIBLE! Zevon should have sued!
My grandparents fucking sounds better than this
They really didn't.
jesus christ this is awful...
Good but it would have been better without the female backup vocalist. She is Yoko Ono level out of tune.
This sucks.
