A lot of the builders I talk to cite reliability issues with the original 400. Probably part of the reason for the redesign, but for sure they probably could have fixed the reliability and retained the unconventional piston, but probably not as easily.

Stihl already ruined all their homeowner saws changing them to 2 pounds heavier with less power and by the sounds of it they are also ruining the pro saws now
New 400 at the approximately same weigth as Husqvarna 550. Also a fresh look and design. By removing two saws who is placed i middle of nowhere in the Stihl line-up, i bet the new 400 will be a success.
Back to aluminum alloy from the magnesium alloy of the current 400c. They used the mag alloy to lighten the piston up to reduce stress on the 362 crank when going from 59cc to just under 67cc. Now it’s an all new saw with 63cc aluminum piston on a new crankshaft from what I’ve heard.
Pretty sure they are exactly the same minus the electronic carb vs standard. This is also dumb in my opinion, why 2 model numbers for the same saw? This is why they had the c added to the ms462 ect. Was ms 462 for regular carb and 462c for mtronic. The 363 & 400.1 is confusing if indeed it’s exactly the same saw minus a carb. Unless the 363 is choked down like some of the special vs xp series huskies.
@@christopherlehman4045 In Brazil the pollutant laws are lower so an electronic carburetor to reduce pollution does not make sense so much so that Sthil and husqvarna do not sell chainsaws here with these systems

@@andrewford80 yes for sure but it would be great for firewood as I’m looking at getting a 400 for that reason you don’t need to cut up big wood for that all the time ,I do have other saws but more is better 👍😉
Ive never liked the 400... Seams to be a waste of time saw... 13lbs 4.5hp When you can just get a 462 that is 13.5lbs and has 6.0hp... Yes its more money but if you are buying a PRO saw and you are worried about 100 this way or that way you need to buy a 271 for 349.99 and get the free oil or whatever.. ANY tree guy that is doing this as a job wants the BEST most efficient machine to get work done well and fast. 1200 for a new 400 is FOOLISH to me... when you can buy a 462 for what 1350... YEA if its got a 25 inch light bar it might be 1450.. Worth every cent....
60cc saws to me have a small market and my 362 is a good saw but it just isnt a 70cc and its weight is 3 lbs more then a 50cc... So its kinda just odd... I LOVE LOVE my 261. It is awesome and Light SUPER LIGHT and screams... but its 50cc... You dont want to buck up 25 inch oak rounds all day with it.. Its just NOT a good BIG wood saw to buck... But smaller trees under 18 inches its AWSOME. clean up saw is also Awesome..
400 is 1100 up here and the 462 is 1350 or so. I’m sure the new 400 will be in between the 362 and current 400 price point to make it a larger spread yet. As far as your logic of the 400 being worthless because they make a 462 for a little more is a bit unrealistic. They make many saws that are close in price, size and weight so may as well just buy a 500i for a little more money because it’s only a little heavier and few hundred more.
You’ve got that horsepower number for the 400 backwards. It makes 5.4 hp and the 462 makes 5.9, so over $200 in price difference for less than half a horsepower extra. I’ve ran both, there’s not much seat of the pants difference between the two. In my opinion they should’ve kept the 362, bumped up the horsepower on the 400 a little and dropped the 462 instead.
It's stupid idea the 400c is great saw . Stihl is dropping alot of sales doing this 300 grams is stupid to loose 5cc..and the piston..more corporate nonsense. All Of us arborist and saw builders completely disagree.dumb idea
So they are replacing the 362 and the 400 with a 363 plus to simplify the lineup. Bad move I think, unless they plan on adding back a bigger bore option with a mag piston down the line.
@@fullthrottletimber8286 Stihl/Husky makes insane margins on saws and the difference in cost between FI and carburetor is insignificant. The 500i is expensive because they can get away with it. Gotta pay for TimberSports and all the marketing.
It won’t ever run with a Husqvarna 562 mark 2.. 13lb saw that will pull a 28” bar and it screams like a banshee!! Your light weight bar is the best thing Stihl ever made.
You aren’t necessarily wrong but it just depends on the size of the wood. I bought 2 034 supers 3 044’s and 3 066’s new. The red light 066 were my favorite but once I stopped logging professionally, I sold them all off and just kept the super. Great firewood saw, and for spar work. 044 was probably the most versatile if you still cut some good sized trees. 👍🏼
Ok, the real reason Stihl is coming out with this saw is because of Echo’s cs620pw. The power of Echo’s saw and weight are much better and by the way Echo’s always crank, for me even when hot.
Yeah,I'm sorry, but an ms400c will output a echo 620. The echo is a great saw and comes in at a much better price point though. I'm not knocking it. Any modern saw starts well hot or cold. No issues with any stihl I've owned in the last 20 years starting hit or cold.
The 044 was 14lbs and 5.4hp. The ms400c is 12.8lbs and 5.4hp. For the same weight as the old 044 you can now get an ms500i which is 6.7hp. They're nice saws, just stupid expensive. I've got a ms400c that I bought to replace ms old ms441c. It's got alot more low end grunt than my old ms441c. Both pull a 28" bar pretty good.
I've got an original 084 and 066... both running awesome... I use the 084 with a 42'' bar for ripping big logs.. I used them both falling timber for several years and cutting god knows how many cords of firewood, amazing saws... not sure about these new 'improved' things, might be higher power to weight ratio but if a guy can't handle a bit of weight he'd better stay out of the woods!!!
In my opinion this is a useless model! The weight is so similar to ms400 why not just go with the 400 and get the power that comes with it? And if you don't mind 1/2 lb more weight go with the 462 . Don't make sense to me. I have a ms 066 that's 20 years old that weights more than I care to carry all day so I bought a 500 I now that's a weight difference!!! And the 500 so far does the job well. I have a couple of ms362's that I will not be replacing for this new model.
I was gonna buy the 400 now i hafto save up for the 462 bevause im not getting that saw with less power for that amount of money im sure it wont run a 25 near as well if i buy a 400 now therw will be no parts
They need to supply parts for 10 Years after they stop selling the saw and actually a large number of 362 parts fit the current 400. The main parts that are different are the cases and cylinder but body parts ect are the same.
Instead of building a new saw that sucks why not bring back the 441 magnum you know the saw they only made for a year then discontinued I ran the 441 when I was working the mill and it was a fine saw lots of power and it was fast to
441 was made many years and heavy, they had so many issues they pulled it in favor of the 440 again till they could fix it. After it was fixed it came back out but never caught on hard because of early problems and being a pain to work on.
@christopherlehman4045 yeah they brought it back the year the 661 magnum came out I had one and spent a lot of time on it never had any trouble with it was a fine saw it was lighter than the 661 and cut faster
I had my ms441c for 12 years, and it was a good saw. It was stupid heavy and ridiculously hard to work on. I had to completely disassemble the top end to replace the throttle cable. It pulled a 28" bar ok in hardwood, but the 400 I bought to replace it is lighter and just as powerful, but with better low end grunt
The ms400c will eat a 562 Huskies lunch. The ms362 is a good saw, just not the fastest around. The ms400c is a whole different animal. The ms400 weighs 12.8lb while the 562 weighs 13.4lbs. Both can run a 28" bar. You can buy husqvarna anywhere, but theres no servicing dealers around here, only stihl and echo. If I need parts or services I dont wanna have ti get jerry bob down the street to fix it and I dont wanna have to wait for parts off ebay.
They had Husqvarna beat with the 400c and now that they’re replacing it, husky will reign supreme in the 60cc class with the 562xp mk2. Way to go stihl😂
Same cc as a 562 and almost same power as current 400 which is already lighter then a 562. Should still beat a 562 with a larger difference in weight but i still think the current 400 should have stayed

I don't want to hate man I love Stihl but the whole reason I wanted to upgrade to the 400 was the power running a 25 Inch bar without braking 1500 bucks
@@haydenshores9943 I don’t think that 0,1 kw will be really noticable. But I guess we‘ll have to wait and see
@@olli_brb07 I hope not but I know it was 66cc I think now it's 62
Stihl already ruined all their homeowner saws changing them to 2 pounds heavier with less power and by the sounds of it they are also ruining the pro saws now
New 400 at the approximately same weigth as Husqvarna 550. Also a fresh look and design. By removing two saws who is placed i middle of nowhere in the Stihl line-up, i bet the new 400 will be a success.
"alloy" piston... what is it... steel alloy.. aluminum alloy... magnesium alloy.. Brittle pot metal is an alloy.
So sad the magnesium piston is obsolete. I own the MS400 with it and love it.
Here in Brazil they are launching the ms 363 which I believe to be the same engine but carbureted 😅
@@christopherlehman4045C actually means comfort - refers to pro grade suspension
Probably something to do with emissions too - but their buyers don’t want to hear they are giving up performance for emissions.
It would be nice to know the exact weight as a 462 is pretty light. I wonder if the Likes of Artur Rodak and C&S Custom Saws will be able to do their magic. I was hoping for a all new 65cc Pro saw.
Hi I lookin for help I bought brand new chainsaw ms181 I noticed oil coming out around the muffler its coming out around the 2 holes for muffler screws, its new machine do you think petrol mix to rich ? I put 20 ml of oil in to 1 liter of petrol is that to much
So could we be talking more plastic as well?
Is that even switched on 🤔
Doesnt come out till next year my advice would be buy a 400 now before they absolutely ruin it 👍
I'll definitely stick with my 562 mark 2
Best 60cc saw in Class mate 👍 Beast I love em
To small for Australia the 400 it’s self doesn’t enter the forest industry but the firewood scene
It fits in so probably the same outcome for this 😉👍
Yeah this is a very GB-centric interview. I'd say that for forestry, it's too small for most markets. Aus, NZ, US would all be after something bigger than this, wouldn't they?
@@andrewford80 yes for sure but it would be great for firewood as I’m looking at getting a 400 for that reason you don’t need to cut up big wood for that all the time ,I do have other saws but more is better 👍😉
@@atvcampingadventures1728 more is definitely better :)
@@LiveFreeOrRIPI love my 562xpw, ❤❤
Why the heck isn’t it fuel injected like the 500i?
Cost.
@@fullthrottletimber8286 Stihl/Husky makes insane margins on saws and the difference in cost between FI and carburetor is insignificant. The 500i is expensive because they can get away with it. Gotta pay for TimberSports and all the marketing.
Did he just rate a gas engine in kilowatts? Why not keep the larger cc motor and just ditch the smaller instead of designing a new saw?
Less cc, less power, less saw 🤦
Price probably goes up $50
300 grams lighter, from what parts they took that away again?
cheaper lighter plastic? smaller tanks? less aluminium on the engine?
It won’t ever run with a Husqvarna 562 mark 2.. 13lb saw that will pull a 28” bar and it screams like a banshee!! Your light weight bar is the best thing Stihl ever made.
Just go the 500.
The 034 super was the best Stihl saw ever made
I disagree I think the 044 is the best saw ever made
You aren’t necessarily wrong but it just depends on the size of the wood. I bought 2 034 supers 3 044’s and 3 066’s new. The red light 066 were my favorite but once I stopped logging professionally, I sold them all off and just kept the super. Great firewood saw, and for spar work. 044 was probably the most versatile if you still cut some good sized trees. 👍🏼
@@hidhshsj123 for it's class size , I don't disagree. I was talking about the 60 cc class saws
Ok, the real reason Stihl is coming out with this saw is because of Echo’s cs620pw. The power of Echo’s saw and weight are much better and by the way Echo’s always crank, for me even when hot.
The 620 echo isn’t better than the current 400
Yeah,I'm sorry, but an ms400c will output a echo 620. The echo is a great saw and comes in at a much better price point though. I'm not knocking it. Any modern saw starts well hot or cold. No issues with any stihl I've owned in the last 20 years starting hit or cold.
Are there any new clearing saws coming from Stihl?
The dealers in Canada have the 362 on sale….so I guess they are clearing them out.
Does the throttle stick on the new model then?😆
Simply MS 362.1 , could not live with MS 400, The Real Deal, AMEN !
im waiting for an ms300 built around the 261 chassis, with fuel injection preferably
Very doubtful it will happen since it would probably be over 1000$ to buy a 45-50cc saw
@@christopherlehman4045 they already have the 420 injected concrete saw. would be worth it
Stihl has ruined the 400. Keeping my 400 and buying another Husqvarna instead of another 400.
Anybody ever heard of a 044? Why did they quit making that song? It was a lightweight beast😢
I’ll stick to my 500i and the old trusty 660 magnum. Would be cool if they could go back to the screw caps. These flippy caps are JUNK!
Nice. 👍
Husq and sthil both be doin questionable things
What would be so wrong with keeping with the 67cc displacment? I cant wrap my head around the logic here!!!
The information we all really want to know was left out ...is it fuel injection or carb ....how much will it cost us..
It’s mtronic
In my opinion this is a useless model! The weight is so similar to ms400 why not just go with the 400 and get the power that comes with it? And if you don't mind 1/2 lb more weight go with the 462 . Don't make sense to me. I have a ms 066 that's 20 years old that weights more than I care to carry all day so I bought a 500 I now that's a weight difference!!! And the 500 so far does the job well. I have a couple of ms362's that I will not be replacing for this new model.
064!
362i ?
I was gonna buy the 400 now i hafto save up for the 462 bevause im not getting that saw with less power for that amount of money im sure it wont run a 25 near as well if i buy a 400 now therw will be no parts
They need to supply parts for 10
Years after they stop selling the saw and actually a large number of 362 parts fit the current 400. The main parts that are different are the cases and cylinder but body parts ect are the same.
@@christopherlehman4045 only thing that sucks is I prob wouldn't need a piston and cylinder for like ten years lol

heres an idea, put the engine displacement in the name.
MS 500i or MS 720 😀❤️😀❤️ and The 201TC-M 😊
Trying to be a husky 562.
It’s obvious that guy has very little experience running a chainsaw
They had Husqvarna beat with the 400c and now that they’re replacing it, husky will reign supreme in the 60cc class with the 562xp mk2. Way to go stihl😂
Same cc as a 562 and almost same power as current 400 which is already lighter then a 562. Should still beat a 562 with a larger difference in weight but i still think the current 400 should have stayed
Love my 400 ,needs bigger felling teeth,

And a 391. That's 66cc
Why not let the professionals decide that, this guy… lol
You really want me get excited about your saws, how about you come with something 65 to 70 cc lighter and can accommodate a 28 to 30 inch bar without losing any power or speed, and while you're at it how about better fuel and oil caps,
Stihl falls to bit/crap.stick to my huskys 572xp/592xp.choice.
