Started watching your tutorials a few days ago, they are great, thought I could fly the NGX quite proficiently but I've learned quite a lot already. Fantastic, keep up the good work, thank you.
Hi Keith, thanks for your kind comment! You're my exact target audience, proficient users of the 737-800 who want to further enhance their experience by following real world procedures. Expect plenty more in the future!
I have so much to learn, even though I've flown over 500 sim hours in my NGX. I guess that's why it's so much fun :) Thanks for sharing your vast expertise with us simmers!
I honestly thank you for your amazing and informative videos and the help you are offering to the flightsim community. I am a PMDG 737 NGX user for years and still learning new things :) Also wanted to say that FS2Crew with SOP3 simulates your company's procedures to a great detail and has changed my experience with the sim.
Thanks for your kind comment! I'm not familiar with FS2crew, from what I've found out it gives you an F/O to help you out? If it's based on my companies procedures then great! Whatever it takes to make it as real as possible!
Just trying to get into flight sim when I came across your videos. Brilliant to have real pilot guidance. Am I right in thinking the bleed air focuses high pressure air onto the N2 blades causing it to spin so then when they have enough momentum/torque to carry on going with ignition of fuel, similar to jump starting a car to give the car engines crank enough momentum/crank to sin up with fuel. I feel like I've just had a eureka moment if I'm right lol. Now to decide, X plane or P3D lol
Hi Baxter, My Full Flight tutorials all the duties from a typical flight from A to B ruclips.net/video/UD-s5yXV13M/видео.htmlm5s This starts at Engine Start do you can concentrate just on this procedure! FD2S
I was a passenger on a Ryanair flight from manchester that performed a crossbleed start. We pushed back started left engine and pushed to a safe area. It was at that part when the aircraft began shaking with the increase in engine noise that I became aware of a crossbleed start. Is a crossbleed required because it is too dangerous to remove the hoses from manifold whilst both engines are powered?
Hello, i have just discovered your channel and really liked it. As far as ı know in the first flight of day R ignition is used because it is fed by standby bus whereas L ignition is fed by AC transfer bus. In order to check standby bus we use R ignition. And i have 2 question. First one is as soon as engine number 2 running u turned on engine number 2 pack on and Apu bleed off. Is there any disadvantage of that. And my second question is for external bleed you first started with engine number 1. Why sequence is changed. I will watch all your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Hi cagaty araz, thanks a lot! You're right about the ignition! In the event of Total Loss of AC power we still have a source of ignition from the R igniter via the AC Standby Bus. If we have a problem with the R ignition prior to departure engineers must connect the L igniter to the AC Standby Bus to ensue we always have a source of ignition in the event of complete AC power failure! 1. I don't know where you're referring to with regards to turning the APU Bleed off! The first engine start I put the no2 pack on and closed the isolation valve. This is the isolated pack operation start to provide conditioned air to the cabin 2. The Air Starter Unit is and usually parked near engine no2 so we start eng no 1 first, remove the Air Starter Unit and then crossbleed start, typically after pushback! Hope this helped answer your query! FD2S.
Found your channel awhile back. Great tutorials....informative and well done thanks! Quick question regarding startup. Do you require timing for any startups. (ie to check starter limitations are not exceeded, light-off within so many seconds, or oil pressure rise)? Keep up the great work!!
Hi Randall. Yeah we start when moving the start switch to GRD, this is for Aborted Engine Starts so we know how long the engine has been motoring for. To move start level to idle detent at 25% N2 we need N1 rotation and oil pressure. FD2S
Hello Sir, Very fine video ! But I have a problem : I don't have the dump pressure available... I connected all the grounds connections I have but nothing. I can see that you have dump pressure without the Air Start Unit (look at 6:56) just with the GPU. I tryed to connect the GPU only, like you , but the dump pressure stills unavailable. Do you have a solution ? Thank you :)
Useful and clear, as ever. Thanks. I run the default PMDG sound package and settings but I've noticed your flight deck engine sounds are much richer and more prominent than mine. How are you set up? Have you fettled your sound settings?
Hi John, Not too sure! I'm running FSX Steam with PMDG and a few addons on a Dell XPS Laptop but nothing in relation to sound enhancement, I haven't played around with any settings (I wouldn't know how to!) I use Adobe Premier Element to edit the video and a good quality microphone to record my voice, that's it!
flightdeck2sim fair enough! I'll go playing with my settings and see what i can do. I wasn't sure whether you'd installed any third party sound, but it seems not. Keep them coming... how about a circling approach? Salzburg or Chambery? Would love to know what mix of VNAV, V/s and hand flying you teach on those.
Next tutorial will be on RNAV Approach procedures, seldom use V/S approaches in real life but it's used if VNAV is unavailable so I can go through that too! I'm planning a circle tutorial as well so watch this space!
Hi Sir, First I want to tell you that this video is just awesome :) . But I have a little question about: do we use the cross-bleed procedure when it's very hot (like 30 ° C) ? By this way we can let the packs on. 'Cause I already saw that. But I'm not sure about. Thank you ;)
Hi Med’ Bleeds off take off is for performance reasons. It increase the amount of thrust from the engines as they’re not having to use Bleed air to provide air conditioning and pressurisation FD2S
Med ' whoops!, I was responding to someone else’s question and actually posted it here!!! Crossbleed start only needed if the APU is inoperative. If very hot we’d still start Engine no 2 first and then isolate the no 2 pack and eng Bleed so it can provide air conditioning whilst we start Engine no 1 using APU Bleed FD2S
hey FD2S theres been a few times after i start the engines where i would get a temp zone warning light that illuminates. What would be causing this and how would i fix it for future reference. Thanks
Hi Dene, Zone Temp light illuminates if the air overheats in the supply duct or if there is a control channel failure. If it's due to a overheat you can try pushing the TRIP RESET button after the duct has cooled. If not it could still be still too hot or the control channel failure OR a glitch with the NGX! FD2S.
I sometimes forget to turn off the packs during start. However when I have everything set right the engines refuse to start. I have to exit flight sim and start all over. Is that an PMDG thing?
Hi Bald Eagle. You need to make sure you have a source of pressurised air. This usually comes from the APU. Make sure you have the APU running, APU bleed selected on, both packs off and the isolation valve switch open and it should work! Good Luck! FD2S.
one doubt.....in the 737 the VNAV could be ( tbh idiotic and crazy in regards to slowing down and descending is the word but here i dont mean any hatred for this plane because i love it from the bottom of my heart ) . Is Flight-Level Change allowed to reach the altitude ATC tells us in case we are high on the VNAV path or so in the real world? Also, why does the VNAV of the 737 have to be mischieveous?
In the unlikely event of you losing one IDG without an APU you would still have one source of AC power (the other IDG), this would require you to immediately divert. If you lose all sources of AC power you have a difficult day in the office! You can still fly on battery power for 60 minutes but you lose a significant amount of systems but essential critical systems are still powered by the battery. FD2S
Thank you so much for taking your time and illuminating me captain ! I thought that having to rely on only battery power in an unlikely worst-case scenario is the last thing pilots would like to face.

You're quite right, there are several systems on this aircraft which might be inoperative but it's still safe to dispatch, including the APU. We consult a manual called the MEL (Minimum Equipment List) to confirm we can dispatch with the particular system inoperative. Logistically for an airline to fix something like an APU it could take a few days to get the necessary parts, the right engineers to do the job and then find a time when the aircraft isn't scheduled to fly. Typical 737 operators will have turnaround times between 25 minutes to an hour. If something like the APU stopped working during a turnaround you don't have the time for it to be repaired so you would consult the MEL, liaise with engineering and dispatch (so long as the MEL allows you) with the said item inoperative. Hope this helped! flightdeck2sim.
flightdeck2sim awesome! thank you for replying! really like the videos, subbed as well! one more question if you may, is that a big difference between the live aircraft and the ngx model?
PMDG have made a remarkably accurate rendition of the aircraft and it has been programmed extremely accurately. There are a few quirks/differences but the model itself is sound and it flies in FSX almost identically to the real thing. Attitude and thrust settings for a given configuration pretty much match the real aircraft/what you get with a full size Level D sim. I started my Type Rating 5 years ago and used it then and I still use it now to practice a particular procedure before I teach it at work and for my own 6 month check! flightdeck2sim
flightdeck2sim that is amazing to hear! I wish to become a commercial pilot myself, will be watching your videos a lot so thanks again for all of the help! :D
