For small circumference colorwork knitting magic loop, I highly recommend turning your work inside out so that the floats are on the outside of your work. It sound complicated, but you don’t actually have to do anything different in your knitting, and it makes tensioning super smooth.
Haha, I love Colorwork knitting too. If you do it one time, you will always be addicted X-). It is the most relaxing way to knit- you are forced to concentrate, so that your mind is SILENT. These Mittens are on my list for a long time, and I LOVE your color choice!!! The Sweater ist gorgeous, too! Warm greetings from Northern Germany!
Those mittens are BEAUTIFUL! For long floats, look up the ladderback jacquard technique. It works like actual magic. Keeps the wrong (float) side tidy, doesn’t show through to the front like catching does, and is so stretchy. Has totally changed my colorwork knitting!
oh my gosh the mittens??? in love with the purple/gray color combination. winx was so popular here in sweden and was my absolute favorite growing up!! flora and layla were definately my characters💘
I’m watching this as a beginner, only knitted two wonky hats so far and I can’t wait to learn more advanced techniques. The mittens 😍 love all your projects!

Last week I finished the Eclair-Pullover by Beautiful Knitters after seeing it in your Vlog and instantly falling in love with the short-sleeved version. I knit it in a skyblue, Brigitte No2 by Lana Grossa. It is so soft, warm and practical with a small child! I already got many compliments on it and people are amazed by my knitting skills, so I am super happy. Now working on a Beanie for my boyfriend using a pattern called Jaska on Ravelry. 42 st gauge, last year with a newborn I failed knitting a beanie in worsted weight, so I am keen on redeeming myself 😂 Love your videos and astethic, it is so nice seeing someone in love with all this feminine and nicely-tailored knitwear. just sew your float that you did not catch, with a sewing thread with the float above or below that row, that way you will never catch it by mistake .And you won't feel it. Great looking mittens.
I love your mittens! They are truly special.🐦I also love that purple yarn that you were gifted. The first thing that came to mind was the Cargill sweater by Rebecca Clow. It is a sweet all over patten that I think would look very nice in that light color for spring. While watching, I've been working on the cuff of my first sleeve of the Anyday Sweatshirt by Ysolda Teague.❤🧶
I have been wanting to knit those mittens so bad but have never done colorwork. I'm so excited to see you knit these for your 1st colorwork project. I'm definitely going to be purchasing yarn for them now and get started on them as soon as possible. Eek! 💙

Hi Celine! Greetings from Fort Wayne IN 🇺🇸🧶💕 I really enjoy your podcast and all your knits! Those mittens are to die for! I will be adding to my list. I just finished my Sweater No.1 (still need to block) I casted on my Mexican Blanket by TwoofWands. A fun quick knit. Happy knitting! 🧶✨
Love the videos! I too get neck pain and I got to PT and yoga. Which watching I worked on the Rainy Day Tee by Sari Noland using some yarn I purchased at the end of summer.
I have learned from other experienced knitters that floats are not needing to be caught if you use a grippy wool. When you use a grippy wool, it will felt after a few times of wearing it. Sock yarn would not felt so catching floats would be necessary.
Hi Celine! I am knitting the Colorwork Cuff Club socks, the September modded version. So checkered socks in a burgundy colour for the checkered part and for the base an almondy natural white colour (knitting with two and not three colours) So like you, I am loving colourwork and I am also now moving on to Gilmore Girls after watching your video (GG is a must in fall ❤). Oh and I also have a Storm Sweater on my other needles, just taking a quick #socktober break from that one. Happy knitting! 🧶
If you make colorwork in NSW, things work out more evenly. I'm not sure about the Onion nettle yarn, but the NSW wool would felt together over time, or you could speed up that process with some agitation to the inside on the floats and/or some heat application via steam. Would still catch floats as the other point is to add more layers of wool for warmth! The mittens look super pretty regardless!
I am also knitting the Songbird Mittens, in purple and white. I am already thinking about a second pair in a different color. I am catching all the floats.
Love yr podcast and projects. Mike is fine!!! Your accent is so good. The only way i detect you aren't an English speaker is the word 'with' where u say 'wiv' so cute.
Because I fell in love with your songbird mittens, I went out and bought the Cashmere Cardiff in the same color pink. It just made my heart so happy. Here is my QUESTION now that I have the yarn. I realize it’s DK. Were you able to make gauge with the DK when it calls for fingering at 10 stitches per inch. I can’t recall if you said what size needle you used. About to gauge swatch now. Thank you for any advice.
I think we should make end of summer official mitten making season, I made a pair too 😂 Not colourwork, but cables, however I had to make them early because I want to make Christmas gifts for my Mum, Mum in law and Grannies this year and they're a gift for my Mum. Right now I'm knitting scarf for Mum in law, it's Birthday Wish Scarf by Julie Peng. I love your mittens, both pairs look beautiful and I'm curious how the second one will end up. And I can't blame Margaux for choosing things in this colour, it's my favourite colour too 😂
@@woozybyceline I hope so! I often try to make something for them, gift giving is definitely my love language. But receiving? Hell nah, I hate it 😂 Oh, and I made a hat with reflective thread for my husband, it was supposed to be a Christmas gift too, but he already put it in his work bag 😂
I love your mittens!! I am currently knitting my first colorwork socks by stone knits and she says in the pattern to not catch floats, and there are quite a few stitches of one color sometimes. Don’t know how they will wear though, cause just started 😅
Oh that’s really great that she specified!! Maybe i can try making a pair of mittens without catching them to see how that’s different. Enjoy your socks 😍😍😍
I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t like to use (or understand) e-calendars 😝 Odd question, but you mentioned you needed to depill a sweater, so do you have a depiller you like and recommend? I’ve actually been needing to buy one recently.
Ahaha I was Musa! And I just had a great idea: a garment made of the five colours that represent the Winx... or maybe 6 if you want to include Aisha... How nostalgic would that be?
So love your podcast! A joy to watch. I have to make those songbird mittens They are beautiful! So I purchased the Cardiff classic same colors because your color choices are exquisite- Question: Cardiff classic is DK but pattern calls for fingering - how did you make gauge? 5 st per inch vs 10 st per inch. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank youuu!! Yes the cardiff classic is DK, but quite a light DK, so it works well for this. I’m gonna be honest: I did not gauge swatch and I can’t believe I didn’t note down what needle size I went for, it was either 3mm or 3.5mm. The cashmere looks good both on a tighter or looser gauge, it’s versatile like that, so depending on the size of your hand, you can adjust the needle and the fibre will naturally adapt nicely :)
Hi Celine! How is so, that you've knitted the Songbird mittens on the 3-3,5mm needles and they didn't come out extra large? Did you cast on 64 stitches or less?
