    Just got this game because I really enjoy car racing games like Dirt,Gran Turismo, and Project Cars set to simulation level difficulties because I really enjoy the challenge and the cognitive function.
    Crashed out several times messing with Ride 4 but figured the issue was primarily "car thinking" and not "motorcycle" thinking. I can definitely see how Ride can be very rewarding to learn and master.

    My problem is if I have transmission on semi automatic and try to do the downshifting myself, the game might shift a split second before me, and my thumb is already shifting as well, resulting in the bike being a gear lower than I want. It seems to me that manually downshifting when it is on semi automatic means that you always have to be down shifting a split second earlier than the game would. Correct? I keep finding myself being in a lower gear than I want to be in a turn because of this double down shifting.
    Excellent video. Thanks for such detail.

    This was really helpful, I used to shift the weight backwards on l1 together with releasing the tuck in button, I need to try like this. I put the tuck in on L1, the thought process was "if I'm braking the weight has to be backwards regardless". Hopefully I didn't miss any scenarios...? 🤔
    Rear brake on x, it' easy for the thumb to work on it and down shift on square at the same time.
    I could never do without upshifting, I will always think making the motor scream till the end of the revs is one of the most satisfying things about driving and I'll be a bit sad when electric propulsion will completely take over the world.

    Interesting. I never would think to bias weight forward and aft in the middle of a turn. I wouldn't do this in real life sport bike motorcycling. I've done it a bit on a sumo. I own and have tracked a Panigale 1299s and your pretty locked into the cockpit. The only real degree of freedom is side to side. On a sumo the seat is designed to move forward if your backing out the rear. Regarding the game play, good tips!

    Thought I'd drop a comment on my progress. I never could get used to pulling the analogue stick backwards, it used to throw me off and no amount of retraining my brain would make it work.
    Now, I have tested the rider weight mechanics a bit and I can see no difference in front end grip from leaning forward. Also leaning forward seems makes no difference to how quick the front wheel comes up, compared to sitting central. The only difference I can see in my testing is that leaning forward on the brakes will cause the rear to lift and pulling back during acceleration will lift the front, more so than a simple power wheelie.
    Based on this, I've unbound the lean forwards and backwards buttons and I can now use the front 180 degrees of movement all the time.
    I still get the benefit of smooth movement, I'm basically pushing forward during braking (unbound), then slowly tipping it in, then slowly returning to centre after the apex.
    Here's something you may want to test, for your own benefit. In my testing, tucking does not fully negate the rider leaning forward, it does mostly cancel the riders weight, but not entirely. Try it out in a braking zone, with the stick forward you'll flip the bike at max front brake. Now try it again, rider forward, max brake, with tuck this time, you'll lift the rear but nowhere near as much. However, try once more wihh the stick central and no tuck and the rear stays planted. The reason I mention this is that got me wondering if it could be causing a slight amount of drag on the straights, possibly losing you a few mph, worth a thought when going for world record lap times.
    Hopefully I made sense.

    • @DrAce46
      @DrAce46  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the update mate, I’m really surprised that you found no difference with pushing forwards on the analogue stick. I swear by it to keep the front end down. I tried it out a moment ago on Kyalami. The wheelies were absurd without the analogue stick pushed forwards. Same applies to the weight backwards as well. I can’t go without them the riding was all over the place.
      A friend of mine re-maps the rider weight forward to one of the shoulder buttons so he doesn’t have to push forward or backwards on the analogue stick.
      I can’t understand why it’s different for us 😂😂 thanks for letting me know mate 👍🏻

    • @cheesetoastie9678
      @cheesetoastie9678 3 года назад +1

      @@DrAce46 Different strokes for different folks I suppose. It is weird though, I may do some more testing on the wheelies but it's a hard one to test consistently. I'll let you know if I do.
      I really wish the leader board was cross platform, its not like those playing on PC have an advantage, they use controllers too. I've got some top 15's and even a 3rd place, but it means nothing when it doesn't take into account PlayStation and PC times.

    • @cheesetoastie9678
      @cheesetoastie9678 3 года назад

      @@DrAce46 You know what I mean though, if I hit 1st then I can't technically call it a world record without checking other platforms, or can I?
      My 3rd is at Brands Hatch GP riding the 2005 RM Fireblade, 1:24:419, 2nd place is a 1:24:388 my projected best was the 1:24:177, so a good lap without mistakes would net me 2nd. However, to beat 1st I need to find a whole second at 1:23:407. I noticed I did that lap with soft front and rear, which is unusual as I usually run a harder front, so might find some time there.

    • @DrAce46
      @DrAce46  3 года назад +1

      @@cheesetoastie9678 Of course you can! You would be the world fastest rider of your platform 👍🏻 If we started looking way into it you could argue that a lap in race could have possibly been quicker but it wouldn’t be recorded due to it not being attained in time trial so we’ll never really have a definitive answer but there’s no prizes, so it doesn’t matter too much 😂

    Hi! I love your smooth riding style. I ride with different method of controls (from the ps2-tourist trophy-era, LOL), I haven't used the lean forward-backward so much in this game as the bike was slowing down, and I didn't know why - now I know: because of the auto tuck-in... Thanks for that info, bro, much appreciated! One question for your setup: if you use square for tuck-in, triangle for upshift and circle for down, how do you keep tuck-in and change gear if needed? As far as I can tell, you used auto gearbox, but I prefer manual (ok, like I said, my settings are different, just curious :) )

    • @DrAce46
      @DrAce46  3 года назад +1

      Thanks mate! Wow what a classic game that is! 🔥 great taste 👍🏻 yeah keep tuck in on manual. It’s much better!
      My setup is
      X - Tuck in
      Square - rear brake
      Circle - gear down
      Triangle - gear up
      I actually hold the tuck in with the palm of the thumb and gear up with triangle. It’s somewhat unorthodox and I possibly wouldn’t recommend 😂 but it works super for me

  • @doomfathertm8771
    @doomfathertm8771 2 года назад

    My controls are so different! I use the right analog stick for throttle and front brake forward for throttle back for front brake, right trigger is my rear brake and left trigger is clutch, shoulder buttons up / down gears, everything else is similar though. This is how it was by default on the ride motogp game on PS2 so it got burned into my brain and since then all bike games I have to have it like this lol. Also I steer different, I move the left stick straight across not around the side.

    Great content! i think i ve understoode the general ratinale behind these tricks but still something hampers me and im not sure if it is my xbox handcam, it is plump so the analog sometimes can be out of my thumbs' reach and the RT, throttle, can change the throttle in the game greatly by pushing it down very gently so i struggle to find the appropriate force to apply to get the ideal speed ,that i have a good feeling about, when cornering and fell off the track😭😭. i wonder if the ps handcam like the one of yours is better for these problems or it is just my lack of practice. thx very much and very amazing to see a youbuter reply all his comments i love your spirit do keep going!❤️❤️

    • @DrAce46
      @DrAce46  2 года назад

      Hey buddy, thanks for the compliment 🔥 I do my best 😁 so in my experience I found that the Xbox controller has a large deadzone on the RT. So you can be pushing down on the trigger and it won’t register the input due to the deadzone. That’s something you’ll be able to get used to but if swapping to another controller is possible I’d consider swapping over to see the difference 👍🏻 regardless you will become better over time with practice 🔥 keep pushing

    Hi Ace! Thanks for your videos teaching how to play this (very challenging) game. In this video, you said if you are on a straight, that you need to be tucked in and holding forward. However, I've found that if I hold forward while on a long straight then let go of the left stick, the bike actually picks up speed - so holding forward must be slowing the bike down. Does this mean that we should only be holding forward on the left stuck when we are accelerating hard? Is there a way to know when I should be holding/or not on a straight? Thanks again!

But I have to pass some tests first and I'm stuck at the Nurburgring. For some reason I cannot get past the fourth one (pass 4 opponents) because the other drivers are too fast. Btw, if one of them falls and you pass him, this does not count. Games like Gran Turismo also have license tests, but you can at least race before doing them all. I'm kinda disappointed, even when the game was on sale.

    Hey man, can you please tell a bit more about the interaction of shifting weight and tuck-in? For example, I noticed that on straights when you hold the tuck in button your speed will increase rapidly, however, there are no changes in the rider's animation. Same thing goes for weight shifting, I kind of understand what purpose it serves, even though it's really my first bike sim, however since there are no obvious animations apart from wheelies on straights it's hard for me to feel the importance of shifting weight. Does it actually work as you say when cornering? I also found that shifting down is pretty much mandatory in lots of corners, since it's way quicker than simply braking with the trigger.

      Hi mate, If you’re holding the tuck in button it doesn’t matter if you push the analogue stick forwards or backwards the tuck in button overrides it.
      There is a difference when you push forwards or backwards you can see the rider moves his head ever so slightly.
      If you’re downshifting already then that’s great news, you can gain a lot of time under braking that way but I’ve not implemented that for the beginners yet 👍🏻👍🏻

      @@DrAce46 I'm by no means a complete beginner to the sim racing genre, I've played games of Gran Turismo series and NFS Shift 2 and such, but my first and pretty much only contact with 2 wheel racing was with a MotoGP game back in the PS2 era and it was an extremely brief contact at that lol. I got Ride 4 literally 2 days ago and it forced me to completely rewire my approach to cornering and stuff. At first I tried to play with lots of aids bar the automatic braking but I quickly realised that they were drastically hindering my performance, especially the absolutely bonkers racing line which seems to be designed for cars lol. Since today I've been playing with pretty much everything off except for semi-auto gearbox and rewind and I've seen lots of things improving for me after watching your videos, even managed to get all gold in a couple of championships. Just wanted to make sure about weight shifting since the animations are barely noticeable and one other youtuber said in his comment section that it doesn't make a difference for him. Thanks a bunch for a quick response.

      Nice mate!! I imagine the jump from cars to bike is tough as nails! I never do well when racing cars 😂 always braking too early and taking bike lines lol
      Yeah I hear you 100% in regards to the racing line and assist. They’re more pain than assistance 😂😂 glad my videos have helped mate. If you need anything just me give a shout 👍🏻👍🏻

    So as for leaning forward on the straights. Is this still valid? Just got the game a few hours ago and have been having a blast. I am currently working on the American Regional License. Got the first 4 gold without too much issue but this 6R and VIR are kicking my butt. If I try to lean forward on the 6R in the initial straight it just kills my acceleration, as a matter of fact the bike is actually decelerating. *Update: Figured out the issue after watching your updated version of this video, in which you said that if you use auto tuck the stick will actually transfer the riders weight which was clearly what I was experiencing weight transfer followed by traction loss. Just wasn't sure why I was and you were not. Once I swapped over to your controller config and turned off auto tuck that problem was solved.
    Now just to forget everything I know about driving in any other game, Forget most of what I learned in the last 6 hours using auto tuck on this game and then I can start trying to learn how to ride correctly. Going from auto tuck, left-right flicks for steering with almost no forward or back it is a lot to take in at once and re learn.

    • @DrAce46
      @DrAce46  2 года назад

      Yeah you need to be holding the tuck in button to negate the rider leaning forwards or backwards.
      It is quite a learning curve but once you crack the smooth movements you’ll be sorted 👍🏻

    • @DatBoyComp
      @DatBoyComp 2 года назад

      @@DrAce46 Yeah It definitely has quite the learning curve, But I have been climbing that curve, slowly but surely. 2 weeks ago when I typed that comment I was struggling hard just to finish my first regional license. Taking the time to learn how to correctly handle the bike has been quite rewarding and I have seen leaps and bounds in my skill level. Currently I am sitting in the top 300 on the weekly challenge (~1.60 seconds behind you) and I am pretty pleased with that considering the difference in experience and owe it to this video and your updated version of this video you put out a few weeks ago, both helped tremendously. Hopefully before too long I can get in that top 100 range with you lol Still have a lot of work before we get there though.

      X - Tuck In
      Square - Rear Brake
      R1 - Clutch
      L1 - Rewind

    very helpful for a newcomer to 2 wheel racing, thank you. Do you have any advice on how to tackle the progression to the faster bikes? I'm getting along pretty well with anything up to like 600cc but It feels like an impossible task to race a 1000cc bike. Is it just track time and patience or is there some advice you can give

      My pleasure mate, glad it helped 👍🏻
      Seems like a cop out for me to say practice makes perfect but it somewhat is. However if I can offer some advice it would be do the same as you do on the 600cc but be more gentle and handle with care if that makes sense. So if you can make a corner with 100% throttle on a 600cc you’ll can probably make the same corner with 75% throttle on a 1000cc 👍🏻 hope that helps mate

      @@DrAce46 How do i manage to get the faster bikes to turn in properly? I just spent almost an hour trying to pass the world license test at interlagos with the S1000RR with no success ( the speed trap thing ).
      If i brake early enough to manage turn in, i hit the speed trap before the corner too slow and even then i often miss the next speed trap with understeer, sliding wide.
      I really enjoy this game but it is so frustrating .. especially the speed trap challenges. even worse with fast bikes.
      I wish i knew what i was doing wrong - i just can't understand how people go so fast, with no understeer and still carry so much speed through corners

      I think you’re referring to this challenge here: ruclips.net/video/WOfU_RizzBg/видео.html
      If you skip to 8 minutes in I think it’s this challenge you’re stuck on.
      You to break literally at the speed trap. But also most of the speed traps are bugged now. So you can just finish the lap and no penalty time will actually be applied at the end of the session.
      It’s all brake early to get faster corner speed, if you brake late it’s much harder to gather any corner speed

It is recognized as "wireless controller", and in Steam as dual shock but would not work in Ride for some reason. Then I used DS4 and Xbox360 controller appears next to "wirelesses controller" and it works in Ride, can calibrate it etc. Tried couple of times again without DS4 but nada....no chance.
