I picked mine up on Saturday just gone and couldn't be happier. It is phenomenal. I liked my LR4 but this is something different. Best in class without a doubt.
I spent 2 days in Arizona for the new Discovery launch/training. I have an 04 Disco and had a really hard time coming to terms with the new shape. Once we got it off road (I mean in places that would require a jeep rubicon - because of locking diffs) I was sold. I've been running my 04 Disco in similar terrain and what this vehicle does "automatically" astonished me. The interior is phenomenal and only lacks in 2 areas: rear storage behind the 3rd row and the length of the second row seat bottom. The new design is a major walk away from tradition but the drive, tech, space for active living and the off road ability will see this as the replacement to my 04, something I just couldn't justify with the LR4. In person and with the right colour combination like Dynamic (with the black roof) the rear does eventually grow on you - or not! Ultimately there are many great suv's that can take you out into the wild like the land cruiser, defender, rubicon Cherokee and Discovery/LR4 but they all do their jobs differently and draw their own particular appreciation from specific types of people. Is one vehicle better than another? Perhaps but you won't find any clarity here, these arguments rival those of professional sports teams - mines better, no- mines better...... if you can afford one of these and need 5 seats with lots of space, you won't be disappointed. If you need 7 passengers with storage then buy a GMC or Ford or Sequoia; the Q7 and XC90 pale in overall comparison and comfort.
It's a pretty bold move for an automaker to purposefully sacrifice looks for practicality, but in this car it looks to have been done to great effect. Any other company would have given the hind quarter sexy, swoopy lines a la Evoque, making the 2nd and third row a place for kids only. But Land Rover laid sexy looks upon the altar of sacrifice, and the result is 3 rows of actual comfort and space. Not a bad price either IMHO.
I like this new Discovery ..that color is on point looks mean asf ...i dont know what yall talking about that rear end is sexy .. would be nice to have a more powerful model like a SVR model ..
Can't believe that you would think that the natural competitors for this Discovery are the Volvo XC90 and the Audi Q7. Maybe in Europe and America where "SUV's" rarely venture off the bitumen roads this might be the case. I am in regional Australia and currently have a Discovery 4, which I use for a lot of offroad touring / camping / fishing trips, including plenty of very difficult terrain. I have many friends with the Discovery 4 and other Land Rover models (plus a few with rice burner 4WD's). We all use our vehicles for their offroad ability and camping / touring practicality. Believe me when I say that the Volvo and Audi that you mentioned would not even pop up on the radar when we are considering which vehicle to buy - they simply are a non-starter in this class of vehicle - unless the vehicle you are looking for is just something for the wife to pick up the kids from school and take them to soccer practice.
Historically, there's been a tendency to view truly capable off-road vehicles as the big, dumb knuckle-draggers of the automotive kingdom. Pig-iron frames, gargantuan knobbly tires and oversized, dirty engines pushing coffee-can sized pistons. Perhaps better than any other vehicle on the market, this new Discovery proves just how outdated that notion is -- not only is this British-built SUV a fully modern proposition, it's one of the more involved and tech-rich vehicles on the road, thanks to its deeply complex off-road systems and considerable luxuries. Awesome car, I'm getting my HSE in 3 months :)
Could be Arizona, but most likely Southern Utah. Went on a drive down there last month to get away from the Canadian winter here, and it was stunning, one of the greatest places to explore on earth.
Land Rover - a tow truck driver's dream come true: Walter M, Takes one of these to Death Valley NP, turns down the dirt road to Race Track, uses the hydraulics to raise ground clearance and speeds on his way! Until he happens on a shallow gully cut across the road during last winter's storm. When the low profile tires quickly compress, the diminished suspension travel (from using the hydraulics to raise ground clearance) fully compress and in a mater of milliseconds, two tires and two rimes are destroyed, However, this is only the beginning of Walter's problems as the nearest town that has replacement parts is hundreds of miles away!
maybe. It depends on the land cruiser, definitely better than a prado, probably about the same as a 200 series at pure off roading, but not at overlanding, and not even on the same level as a 70 series when it comes to any kind of off road...
yea its trash at overlanding, my family owns a lc200 and a disco 4 and i can say that the discovery is better at pure off road from stock. They're both amazing but the disco is the hardest to get into trouble with. but without a doubt i prefer the toyota but thats just because im from australia so reliability is kinda important. Its more capable than the stock 70 series we have on our farm as well however these are ones from early 2000's so im not sure how the disco compares to the modern LC 70's
Land cruisers have reliability which landrovers simply do not have and that is by far the most important thing in a country like australia. Trust me being stranded in the outback is not something you want to experience
Ivor Zarescu you used the word "saying" (preasent tense) and "one more time" (future tense) in the same sentence about the same thing. Leaving horrible grammer and a sentence that looks like it was written by a 4 year old.
fronts across the range of models look all too alike. Whats the point? Evoque is basically an Disco sport. And this Disco is a slow version of the Range Sport. I'm not bashing performance. Just design
moving in the right direction by loosing weight BUT what about cleaner vehicles, haven't they heard of fuel cells & electric motors yet? Wake up Landrover !
Really got some aggressive asshole replies. Electric can mean quiet, cheap to run, and seriously fast. Low centre of gravity from low down heavy batteries can even mean better handling. Why knock all that - choice is better. It's why I'd get the Volvo, much as I like the disco.
Why is he constantly complaining about it's on road performance? It's a Land Rover! They'll always wallow in the corners and unless you own an oil field to run the petrol svr versions of course their going to be slow. As long as it can drag a shed I mean caravan, do the skip run on the weekend and come in commercial spec so that "mate" you know can tow his digger to site it'll do ok.
Thank god this thing will replace people carriers I hate looking at those ugly people carriers but I dislike the back of the new disco i think the chap who made the Nissan Cube visited Land Rover
Man Machine to Boys Toy..... Story of Discovery....Ruined the design by adding Range Rover characteristics to their tough suv..Let see how they gonna introduce new Defender....👎
Well, I am a previous RR owner and lover of the brand - great cars - followed the new Disco today on the motorway - why are the reviews missing one BIG issue, the rear - wow its hideous!!! One of the ugliest cars from the back I have seen in quite a while, well years frankly ! Shame they have just made it into a RR clone - identity lost and not a great exterior design, Shame !!
I don't think what Land Rover is claiming what they are. Lexus gx 460 all the way it's way better and breaks down less and more importantly reliability.
it was never the king (except in anglo fantasies), even the new ibiza has more equipment and before this gen, the discovery had a completely subpar onroad performance
2L 4 cylinder engine? 2.1 ton SUV? it is a disgrace, no matter how much explanation you do... it doesnt make any sense... i mean really?!!! WHAT THE FUCK?!!!!
hunyango Agreed. It is retarted they put such a shitty engine in it. I assume there are other, bigger engines. But this 2L 4cly should not even be an option.
I picked mine up on Saturday just gone and couldn't be happier. It is phenomenal. I liked my LR4 but this is something different. Best in class without a doubt.
I agree traded my 2015 LR4 for the New Discovery......AWESOME!
Why are the breaklights so tiny?

I really love its design, it's so clean an futuristic
Iñaki Zurbano haha you got a good sense of sarcasm sir
If futuristic means ugly you're correct
sillymoons oo I think that you're the minority bro

Is this a Ssangyong Tivoli XLV?
Nice spotting, lol even fortuner would do these terrains with ease or the everest
R u a mad
I like this new Discovery ..that color is on point looks mean asf ...i dont know what yall talking about that rear end is sexy .. would be nice to have a more powerful model like a SVR model ..
This is the Best SUV to ME... in the market for a LR4 in the next 2 weeks... but this Disco is AMAZING
Yep is the king off and on road
Land Rover UK has taken 40,000 orders for the New Discovery
Didn't know blind people could drive lol its ugly as hell
Only in uk , but in africa, its zero lol
Well it's a landrover what do you expect 😂
Can't believe that you would think that the natural competitors for this Discovery are the Volvo XC90 and the Audi Q7. Where was that bridge? It's lovely!
the navajo bridge in northern arizona
That scenery is beautiful... so is the Disco 😊

You won't be disappointed!
I just love it ! 360 degree car ! Can't w8 to get one to replace my Evoque.
Why are the breaklights so tiny?
Local dealers are out of old Discos. The only hope left is in the next gen Defender...
Great looking car. Very nice color too. Tempting.
The not aligned back is pissing me the fuck off
Ikr, why the hell did they do that?
I would black out the aft door roof support and give it the floating roof look , that leaning foreword look does not gel to the overall look .
Best But, I’m scared for longevity.
The front is beautiful and looks just like the Range Rover, but that rear three quarters looks ugly as sin.
MrHPJunkie facts
MrHPJunkie co-sign I'm like wtf is that
MrHPJunkie agreed, they could have added more glass to rear quarter panel area...c pillars.
Rear last quarter was the error.
MrHPJunkie I couldnt agree more . .. #TheRearIsAMess !!!
Love it. Can't wait for mine to come in.
Beautiful location. Where was this filmed?
Could be Arizona, but most likely Southern Utah. Went on a drive down there last month to get away from the Canadian winter here, and it was stunning, one of the greatest places to explore on earth.
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who likes this new Discovery.
It's a beast!
The transmisson isn t ZF?
Beautiful videography.

Poor guy they wouldn't let you buy a Rover!
what a beautiful place.
Picking ours up next week to replace the LR4 :)
great off road review.....
I can't figure out if this is a really old looking young guy or a really young looking old guy :/ lol
What color is this?
This is a massive step up from the LR4 in terms of accommodation and capability. The horsey mums will be buying it in droves.
Its beautiful from every angle.
And Awesome!
Im happy when Land Rover on filming videos doesnt brake. Its just enough for me.
the disco always was a good vehicle, but please, it was never the king either off road nor on it...
better than a landcruiser off road
maybe. It depends on the land cruiser, definitely better than a prado, probably about the same as a 200 series at pure off roading, but not at overlanding, and not even on the same level as a 70 series when it comes to any kind of off road...

Better than a land cruiser in every way land cruisers are overpriced, ugly & far too thirsty
Land cruisers have reliability which landrovers simply do not have and that is by far the most important thing in a country like australia. Trust me being stranded in the outback is not something you want to experience
I'm liking the new shape
if he is saying "but" one more time .....
Ivor Zarescu you used the word "saying" (preasent tense) and "one more time" (future tense) in the same sentence about the same thing. Leaving horrible grammer and a sentence that looks like it was written by a 4 year old.
Land rover have best range of SUVs.,no doubt.
where is the review? this is just reading through the feature list....
This is really nice, it's basically a Range Rover Sport but not called one. I like it a lot though.
Music ?
Where's this amazing scenery? 😍
Bleeee, this isn't old, good LR Doscovery.
I need one of this
fronts across the range of models look all too alike. Whats the point? Evoque is basically an Disco sport. And this Disco is a slow version of the Range Sport. I'm not bashing performance. Just design
"Think of Rand Rover levels of sofistication, and you won't be too far off".. . COME ON, TOO BIASED TO BELIEVE
The exterior reminds me of a bit of the discovery sport and the Range Rover sport and the inside reminds me of the Range Rover sport
Even a jimny would do hard offroads without stopping than this fancy boat
Looks like a Range Rover sport with wonky lights and a Land Rover badge.
Well if you paid attention you'd realise that range rovers and discoverys have always looked similar, nothing's changed here
moving in the right direction by loosing weight BUT what about cleaner vehicles, haven't they heard of fuel cells & electric motors yet? Wake up Landrover !
D' ARTICULATE ohh great ... Tesla fanboys
D' ARTICULATE fuck off you tree hugging, dolphin kissing vegan.
Amen brother!
D' ARTICULATE go back to sleep
Really got some aggressive asshole replies. Electric can mean quiet, cheap to run, and seriously fast. Low centre of gravity from low down heavy batteries can even mean better handling. Why knock all that - choice is better. It's why I'd get the Volvo, much as I like the disco.
I'm having a hard time believing your reviewer is in the target demographic for this car.
5putput
lol
Very nice car just the back is kinda strange looking
When the evoque gets butt injections, you get this car
Why is he constantly complaining about it's on road performance? It's a Land Rover! They'll always wallow in the corners and unless you own an oil field to run the petrol svr versions of course their going to be slow. Thank god this thing will replace people carriers I hate looking at those ugly people carriers but I dislike the back of the new disco i think the chap who made the Nissan Cube visited Land Rover
I would love to have one of these cars..i don't see anything wrong if you real take care of your car, only ur mind.
BGM? anyone.?
I can't get myself to like this car, I really can't.
But will it break down before you leave the dealership
0-62 in 8.2s? Kinda snail like
A 5min review?
Land Rover new designs are rubish, I miss the old days.
Yes i miss them even the defender, discovery 1-4, 1997 range rover
Disco no more. This is fancy suv shit.
BokiBoleBoki agree nothing like a discovery now
They were always shit!!
Fuck this unibody suv
Its just a car you use for shopping
That rear end, OMG, totally fugly from rear axle back.
Why so sad bgm for this review video 📹
Man Machine to Boys Toy..... Story of Discovery....Ruined the design by adding Range Rover characteristics to their tough suv..Let see how they gonna introduce new Defender....👎
What awards did it win to justify calling it king on and off road? Did it ever win a Paris Dakkar offroad rally?
The velar design is much better .. . The rear of this vehicle ruined it !!! #MessyRear
'Land Rover's 8 speed automatic'. Not so. It's a ZF gearbox.
I like it
Great it goes off road where nobody in the real world goes with a car. How about they concentrate on their patchy reliability instead.
God bless you all
Need to work on the cuts now it looks like a KIA model
when was this thing king offroad again?
👍Discovery
Except the other cars are not 4x4
The Hummer h2 took that title over.
They don't make those anymore!
That was not an off road test if the struts not fuk then it's not an off road test lmao
okay so take it to the simpson desert, cross it and tell me how many things break.
Who paid for your tickets and accommodation again?
bo't, I rather take the Range Rover, bo't, don't know why, bo't.....
So they basically smashed the front of the modern Land Rover with the rear of the older model Land Rovers and called it a day!
I don't think what Land Rover is claiming what they are. Lexus gx 460 all the way it's way better and breaks down less and more importantly reliability.
damn, that piano black center console is utter rubbish. why don't auto manufacturers understand that we hate that cheap crap.
Why do they avoid the obvious? It's pig ugly. Come on journalists do you job!
who died and made this SUV king?
off road automatic xD
it was never the king (except in anglo fantasies), even the new ibiza has more equipment and before this gen, the discovery had a completely subpar onroad performance
God awful looking. Bring back the LR4 shape.
The old shape was nicer :(
2L 4 cylinder engine? 2.1 ton SUV? it is a disgrace, no matter how much explanation you do... it doesnt make any sense... i mean really?!!! WHAT THE FUCK?!!!!
hunyango Agreed. It is retarted they put such a shitty engine in it. I assume there are other, bigger engines. But this 2L 4cly should not even be an option.
it's a fancy ford explorer...just looked at it. rebadged ford explorer
soooo ugly. Its a disgrace to what they claim to be a land rover tradition. Looks like a generic SUV .
The back is as ugly as the discovery sports back.
I could never buy a car as UGLY as this, I mean it is HIDEOUS.
The worlds most unreliable car brand.
land rover is dead!
