Looking for Old Six Flags Over Georgia Relics in the Park

- I have been going to Six Flags Over Georgia since 1968. A lot of things have changed and some things are still there, you just have to look for them. We are looking for old six flags over georgia relics from rides and attractions. We found 5 of them, some obvious some have been changed and some are out of site. If you know of anything at Six Flags over Georgia that we missed, please let me know in the comment section. If there is enough, we will do a second video.

Love this! Do you happen to have footage or stills of the former raft slide that used to be by the entrance (maybe called Ragin’ rapids)? Around where Scorcher is now? I’ve looked all over and can find nothing!
@@richardbyrd6000 I don't have anything right now on the slides. I rode them one time with my daughter and we were flipped over at the very end. Not real sure what the purpose of those were anyway. Thanks for watching.
I go way back to the first year 1967. There were two log flumes back then. One of them was way longer than the other. There used to be something called the Satellite which which a round spinning ride that looked like a spaceship that was later replaced by Momo the Monster.
There was a round ride that spun around that you stood up against the wall and it would spin and the floor would drop and the g-force would hold you on the wall.
Mark, Thanks for watching and for the comment. When they opened they only had 1 log ride and built the second one for the second season. I also remember MoMo. They moved it back to the Cotton States area when they made the path down to Jolly Rogers Island. It only lasted a season or two there before it was removed. The ride that spun around and you were pressed against the wall was the Spindle Top. It was in the western town. I rode it many times. Thanks again.
@@BrotherTim The Spindle Top was relegated to the end of the employee parking lot by 1983, and I believe it was later joined by MoMo. On the 2 log flumes, do you remember in the late 60s/early 70s one of them had a huge log tunnel at the end while the other had an animatronic Paul Bunyan style guy chopping at the riders as they passed under? Also Thunder River, at which I worked in '83 and '84, used to be the Riverboat ride with canon fire, Indian attacks (a la Stone Mountain railroad) and gators "chasing" the boat.
I’m going to Six Flags Over Georgia for the first time today, so I knew I had to watch this today before I go haha. Always knew about the Thomas part, and as a fan of that franchise, it always hurts to hear about. But looking forward to finding all the rest.
Great memories, I worked there from 89-91 as a ride operator mainly on free fall but had certs on just about every ride in the park. Back then it seemed to be a better time and the park was something special, I don't have any good words for what it has become now.
Cape, thanks for watching. I agree. I remember those days, even in the 70's where it was all new and fresh. There were lots of flowers and plants that went along with each section of the park. Sometimes progress isn't all it seems to be. Thanks again.

It seems that parks near big cities attract well, colorful people. My local park, Dorney Park does. People from Philly, NJ, and NY as well as downtown Allentown. The guests are very diverse now. But there are a lot of rude people as well. And they get very mobbed on certain days, especially weekends and holiday weekends.
Brought back lots of memories. I love Six Flags over Georgia. Been going there since 77'. In 88' started working there till 90'. On your video of Hanson cars, which I worked at for a time, if you look further past exit sign, you see yellow circles with black numbers, that's where you got on the ride. Today is nothing like it used to be. The love of working there is gone. When I was there, we loved it. I still do. Your video brought back memories cause I worked Chevy Show, Hanson cars, Bugs Bunny Playfort.

I worked at SFOG from 91-93 as a ride operator. I worked the Looping Starship my first year and there was a storage shed in the alley behind it. We'd hang out inside when it rained and the ride was closed. The inside was full of everyone's initials, crushes, etc. I'd love to know if that shed was still there....I know the Looping Starship is long gone. Back then, working there was like going to camp. We had afterhours parties in the different areas and the supervisors would operate the rides. It was great fun. Anyone remember the Foreman Follies? The Free Fall when it operated at full capacity and broke down all the time? The horn that blew every morning when they turned on the pumps at Thunder River?

I never officially worked there but worked the Christian Festivals there and I do remember hearing the horns in the early morning hours. There was also horns that blew quite often on the Viper. Thanks for making this. First time i went to the park was when i was about 6 years old in 1999. Seems like a lot has changed for me so i cant imagine for you. But I love seeing how the park has evolved.

That was the nets the kids come climb over. I did it many times as a kid in the 80s.
The old fort was initially a spook house that started by walking into a head and it ended in a slide. In the ‘80s the slide was still there but the public couldn’t access it as it had been covered up.
VonSoest, Yes the spook house was inside the fort. They also had a graveyard in front of the big head. They took all that out when they converted the fort into the Pac Man Play fort. I was working at the park the night the top of the lighthouse came down. There was a lot of damage that night. Thought we were getting hit by a tornado

Wow! You and I are the same age! The funniest part is my first visit to SFOG was also in 1968. We were living in Charlotte at the time and drove down to the Big City to go to Six Flags! I remember screaming bloody murder as we entered the Haunted Fort and refused to take another step, so my dad walked me around to the exit slide where we met the rest of our family and friends. We moved to Atlanta 2 years later. In 1978, I got a job at Six Flags and worked at the Hanson cars and Highland swings where the crew members operated both rides. That's where I met one of my closest friends Charles and we still talk a few times a week to this day! The next year, I worked at the Haunted Fort and got a good laugh with my crew members about how terrified I was to walk through it as a kid! Great MEMORIES!!!

Great video. I was at the park yesterday (Tuesday's are the best days to go, absolutely no lines) and i noticed an old facade on the right as you are coming up into the area by the Daredevil roller coaster from the little vine tunnel. It's kind of hidden behind the bathrooms and looks kind of like a haunted house now, but that's probably because the cedar roof is in disrepair. I was wondering what it originally was. I think i saw the number on the back of the building was 661 or something when i was riding the Log Flume.
David, If it is to the left behind the bathrooms, then it is a haunted house they only use during Fright Fest. You wear 3D glasses as you go through there. That area used to be the que line for the Sky Hook and for the Sky buckets. They removed those two and put in Free Fall. They took that out and put in the haunted house. If it is on the right as you exit the canopy, then it is probably the back of the carnival games behind the diner. Thanks for watching.
Very nice videos..I always look for stuff like this when I visit my home park six flags fiesta texas.Its not nearly as old as over georgia but I was there on opening day..Also another one I do this is at six flags over tx..Now that park has alot of history..And believe it or not I still find old remnants..

Amazing history. I was born in 1987, and my family and I moved to Atlanta from Newark, NJ in 1995. My very first roller coaster at the park was the Georgia Cyclone. I rode roller coasters back at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. Then I believe the following year Batman the Ride was either announced, being constructed, or just built. I also remember when the Georgia Scorcher replaced that water ride. And I remember riding the Viper, now replaced by Superman.

I remember Tales from the okefenokee. 2 things stand out. The bear and food saying "beware beware go back go back" and the sound of the carrots being moved by air compressor. I remember Buford Buzzard and I remember seeing Kiss for the first time on a film at the Chevy Show.

Not from over Georgia but from six flags St. Louis, I'm aware of two remaining relics from the old sky buckets. Of course, the arcade that is now the exit for joker but visible from the ninja you can see one remaining concrete footer. It's the only one left. It's behind the Chinese restaurant

I didn't know about Thomas the tank engine because I stopped going there regularly a long time ago, and I knew the lighthouse has been since I can remember but I didn't know the history.
My feet have also stepped on that same exit sign and arrow at the end of your video.
My last visit was the year Goliath opened (YEP, its been a while since I've been lol)

The trough of the Okefenokee ride wasn't altered when the attraction was converted into ghd Monster Plantation. The building itself is the same as well. I enjoyed your video!
Sharkheadism, that is correct, the boat route stayed the same but they did bulldoze then entire set inside with a bobcat. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it.
@@BrotherTim I’ve heard somewhere that one of the murals from the okefenokee stayed after being converted to plantation, however the rest were bulldozed.
The original entrance to the Mindbender was just past the bridge (Jolly Roger’s Island) on the left. If you look right before DC Super Villains Swing, you can see some of the old curved tree stump landscape areas that used be along the the line going to the Que-house. The entrance that you show is actually the exit of Ship Shape Theatre and then for Graffitis. As a former employee who worked at the Mindbender in 84/85/86, I wanted to bring this to your attention. Other than that, great video!

That bridge was a GODSEND on them good ole Georgia summer days.

Enjoyed the video!! I went several times during the early 70’s -when the Dahlonega mine train was the big roller coaster-my how that changed didn’t it lol.
Also I don’t want them to paint over the exit and arrow -I think it’s neat that it’s still there and now maybe some people will look for it.

Six flags Air Racers (which was replaced by Acrophobia) and many more old rides are still located in the back of the park near Superman. Which is publicly known as the “six flags graveyard”… wish we had access to it. Would love to see a video.
CMG, I think all the air racers have been removed or sold off. I am sure there are plenty of old relics in all those storage containers in the employee parking area. Thanks for the comment.
Just would like to know if theirs anything at all left of mine and my brothers favorite six flags ride over Georgia “10 story free fall” we sure miss it. Loved seeing your video and memories. Have a great one my six flags friend 👍
Doug, I am so sorry nothing is left of the free fall. With the haunted house and the dare devil dive coaster there, the free fall, chevy show and the theater were all removed. You have a Six Flags day yourself!
This is insane i always went there as A LITTLE KID AND I KNEW I REMMEBERED THOMAS AND THE CAROTS AND THE WILIE COYOTE but i went back years later and it was so different and i thought it was all a dream and i work there now and AT TWISTED Cyclone and whenever i’m cleaning down there by the old exit and arrow i always saw them and i thought they were left over by GEORGIA Cyclone but i was mistaken This was a good video
Nxfy, thanks for watching. It is so cool that you work there but didn't know the history or the artifacts that are still around. As I said in the video, it would be great if Six Flags would somehow preserve the arrow and the exit, maybe repaint it just so it stays there for future. I actually think that there is a number in a yellow circle underneath the steps of the twisted cyclone. I couldn't see it but if you are ever down there. look for it. It would have been where folks would have to stand and wait on a car. I think there were either 5 or 6 of them back in the day. Thanks again and maybe our paths will cross one day.
I remember the club for teens in the Jolly Rogers section; it was called Graffiti’s. Good times.
Forgot about the swinging bridge. Wow! That brings back some memories.

You sent me down memory lane. I was a regular there dancing on the floor at Graffiti's almost every Weekend and during the week 1985-1987 before they closed it and I was crushed. I met a lot of people there and a few I am still friends with to this day. Six flags over Ga Was also my first Job. I worked grounds. Area 4 and 5 near the Monster Plantation and Splash Water Falls...✊✌💨🤔

My family went there in June 1971. I was almost six. I don't remember much but I do remember the model T cars.

If I am not mistaken , there is a marker just inside the park on the left near the log flumes that was there at the opening of the park. The 6 flags that was flying was for the 6 countries that owned Georgia at one time or another.
Richard, I am not sure about the marker. I will have to look for it the next time I am there. The Six Flags were English, Confederate, Spanish, French (which is questionable), USA and Georgia. Those flags flew over some part of Georgia at one time or another, whether it was over a fort or over the entire state. Thanks for the comment and for watching.
@@BrotherTim I remember going to that park when I was 4 years old and I am 54 now. Went there every year until 1987.. I loved the horror cave. The marker is at the very entrance as you go up around the log flume. You do know the Crystal Pistol theater is haunted
Great video. i grew up up the road in Nashville but would come to SFOG many many times. The first being in 1978. I too have many old memories. Some forget this park had TWO sky rides. Sometimes when I see old SFOG pics. I see some sort of huge crane ride. I guess it was gone when I got there in 78 but this thing was very big. If you know what im talking about, please let me know.
I miss the Great Gasp.
The big crane ride was called the Sky Hook. It was Y shaped and had 2 cages that were in the shape of a ball that people would ride in. It would take you up above the park and slowly turn around so you could see the park and the Atlanta Skyline. It was behind the Chevy Show, near the queue line for the second Sky lift called the Astro Lift. The Sky Hook was taken down and replaced by the Free Fall. Thanks for watching New Clothes.

I know what u talkin about, that crane was the sky hook it was taken down in November of 1977 and shipped to Arizona .the sky hook was replaced by mo mo the monster in 1978 . Mo Mo's original spot was replaced by the mindbender's entrance
I remember all of what you have told about , I was only around 5 or 6 at the time also I remember the Wheel barrow ride the T of Okeefenokee the raceway cars the 17th century boat ride where Thunder river is now ,I remember when the Scream Machine wasn't even there no superheroes section, no big rollercoasters🎢 ,the haunted cave was awful except for riding the soides at the ending, the chevy show , the sky hook ride the skylifts , the Cystal Pistol😂wild western show dancing 👠 ❤ the gunfight shows , the dolphin show the only charged about 3.00 dollars to park ,Sid and Marty Kroft theater , the one and only Cherry berry ice Popsicle .😮😅😊❤😂🎉

That Six Flags sign in the thumbnail, the one that says I-20 W, it's still on the property, but not anywhere you could access it. It's on the side of a building in an employee only area. Not related to the video content, but just a tidbit about the thumbnail contents. :)
BakaTaco, That Six Flags "sign" is not the sign you see from the train. It is actually an old bumper sticker that used to be put on cars back in the day. They would put a bumper sticker on your car while you were in the park. If you didn't want a sticker on your car, you had to put down your sun visor. If you look closer at the picture you will see the edges are curled and there is a refection from the light source. Thanks for the comment.

Went here for first time a few weeks ago with one of my best friends and it was a great time. Definitely find stuff about amusement park pasts very fascinating

While you are correct that the Jolly Roger section was re-themed to Gotham City in 1997, the arena for the Batman Stunt Show opened in 1992. I was working in the park at the time and picked up extra hours there.
Terrel, thanks for pointing that out. I knew it had opened early as I had a friend who was the stage manager there. She got me into the show once and I played the reporter who got electrocuted by the henchmen. Thanks for watching.
@@BrotherTim It was always so much fun to get to do that. I loved my time there. I grew up going to that park all the time and it was my first job for two seasons. The place has a lot of meaning for me and your videos take me right back. They are a delight to watch.

What was the haunted house there that had an area that you would walk up high in a line, and when you looked down, there was a guy chained on to a platform and a giant axe was swinging down from the ceiling back and forth slowly chopping him in half? There were cloaked figures standing around him. Very foreboding! I was wondering if anyone else remembers this at Six Flags Georgia. As I recall it was right across from the monster plantation. 1980s.
Sicmonic, you are correct. It was in the old fort but now it is the Jokers Fun House. There is nothing that remains of the haunt now. It was pretty scary for it's time and I liked the end where you exited down a slide. Thanks for watching and for the comment.

That's was Amazing!!! I totally forgot about that Spanish section of the park with the draw bridge and the cannons that brought back so many great childhood memories at Six Flags. And how in the HELL did you spot that Exit sign from the Hanson cars????🤔🤔🤔
Thank you Carlos. The park isn't so much like it used to be but it is still hot and hilly. I spotted that Exit a few years ago when i rode the Georgia Cyclone. this was very cool..i remember alot of the old rides..i enjoyed this..do you happen to have any video of the old jungle cruise boats they use to have it was called jean ribauts adventure boat tour..was simliar to the disney jungle boats at diney world
oh and the parachute ride and the wheelie ride.and free fall ride.which i did not like lol.
I haven't found much video from the boat ride. I think it was removed before folks had video cameras. Now days Six Flags will not allow you to bring camera's with removable lenses. You have to film on your phone or small point and shoots like I do. I loved the wheelie. Remember it was in the USA section first before being moved to the western town when Looping Starship took it's place in USA. The great Gasp was also fun. I never really wanted to ride Free Fall. I think I did it once but didn't like the long lines for such a short ride. Thanks for watching CrazyCatLady.
